Abastos 2.0 - Barra

"A unique restaurant occupying six small market stalls. You’ll need to book ahead as the restaurant only has a single large table where the focus is on traditional and regionally inspired “raciones”." - Michelin Inspector

I had one of the most memorable dining experiences at Abastos 2.0, and it wasn’t just because of the food (which was outstanding), it was because of the service, especially from Thomas. He was warm, attentive, and made the whole experience feel personal. The atmosphere at Abastos 2.0 is lively and intimate at the same time, and the dishes are fresh, creative, and full of flavor! Highly recommended

Google
Great interesting food. Service from the beginning was 10/10. Waiter more than happy to speak English and explain everything to us. Despite being a seafood speciality restaurant, they were able to offer meat and vegetable alternative of the set menu which was very accommodating. Nice atmosphere, only thing was some items were really salty. More than we’re used to but maybe that’s just a local thing!

Google
It will be really difficult to find a better place where to have fresh sea food and fish in the town. Probably one of the best in Spain. The service is also very good and it has the charm to be by the traditional market. Surely a must visit in Santiago.

Google
Food was ok, nothing special. Supposed to be a great experience, but very normal dishes, nothing out of ordinary. Relation quality price not good. Atmosphere cold, heartless, not inspiring at all. Staff rude unfriendly with fingers in the soup if you know what I mean. Trying to appear as Michelin more than a fancy Galician furancho. There are better options in the area for sure. Thanks.

Google
This place has a menu that changes daily as they serve food based on ingredients they buy at the adjacent Market. Not only is the food delicious... It is reasonably priced and the service is excellent. A great alternative to the other tourisry areas in Santiago. Highly recommended.

Google
Recommended! Ate there twice & it was consistent. Leave it to the chef & you’ll have your “surprise me” moment. He Served his daily catch, prepared simple but flavorful. Service was prompt & cheerful. You gotta have dessert! Eat indoor or outdoor, where you can also enjoy people watching. Price was reasonable.

Google
The food was good as expected, but don't expect too much for the service, especially if you are not white. Sitting there and seeing how the next table is being treated differently by the same person makes me feel not very comfortable.

Google
There are so many good restaurants in Santiago that it’s difficult to know where to go. We chose this one for lunch and weren’t disappointed. The fish is so fresh , straight from the market. We had razor clams and salmonetes…..truly first class. Excellent service and all in, a very reasonable price. This is a quality restaurant.

Yelp
The food here is top notch, and the service is friendly. It didn't feel that touristy, but since it's in a major tourist city and is listed as a Bib Gourmand, I assume they get a lot of non-Spanish speakers. The waiter offered to help us and brought out dishes he told us about. The only thing that caught my attention was that there was an item on the bill that we didn't receive. This could have been an accident or intentional, but in either case, there was a breakdown in communication. There was another item that was discussed that we did not receive, but luckily, that was not on the bill. It's a great place to eat and drink, but as with all restaurants in tourist areas, check the final bill.

Yelp
Best grilled octopus we had in Santiago de Compostela. Right in middle of the market, but inside feels far away. Highly recommend.

Yelp
REVIEW #6000! Barnacles! It's what's for dinner! Seriously, Gayle and I had an amazing meal of seafood delicacies at 2.0 Abastos in Santiago de Compostela. The server asked if we wanted to go inside to look at the menu, or if we would trust him. We went with Option B! This popular restaurant is located at the food market of which its seafood only offerings are selected same day. Everything was fresh and delicious and we'd gladly trust this wait staff again!

Yelp
Definitely good quality seafood here. Waiter was a bit rude to us in the beginning. This was one of our most expensive lunches. The squid was recommended but I guess it wasn't on the menu. I didn't ask for the price thinking it would be around 10-20 like other things on their menu but it was $30. Very expensive. It was good and a big portion but I wouldn't have gotten that for that price. It was a little too salty and garlicky even though I did like it. My mouth was so dry for the rest of the day. Also had mackerel which is a strong fish but they paired it with a sauce and some picketed vegetables and it was good. The wine was local and I think only 3 euros a glass. Overall it was an okay experience and a bit over priced. It is cool they use ingredients from the market next door.

Yelp
Not worth the money. The service was the worst! Literally dropped dishes on the table without any explanation (we let them send things out for us). My boyfriend has a walnut allergy and when they asked us about restrictions, I told him and he shrugged me off as if that's not something they ever have in the kitchen. Two courses later, we get a squash dish with RAW WALNUTS sprinkled in. At this point I am thinking this is on purpose. And at the end, when we were full and politely asked for no more food, they made us sit for 30 minutes without checking in. On a busy night maybe, but this was a room of 3 tables. I'm sorry, there are better restaurants in Santiago. And I guess because we are Americans, we were not given an option for wine. Just the house white. Meanwhile, the locals next to us were given everything they wanted. I'm sure they are tired of tourists, but do better Abastos. I've worked in hospitality for over 20 years and this is a new all time low.

Yelp
Prior to my trip to Galician in Santiago de Compostela, I had made reservations for dinner at Abastos 2.0 two months in advance. The restaurant is located by the popular food market. This restaurant offers new dishes daily from the market's offerings, with an emphasis on seafood. The restaurant has an indoor and outdoor seating. The inside seating consists of one long twelve (12) seat table where we sat for dinner. There several options that one can choose from the menu such as individual plate's medium and large tasting menu. We chose the large tasting menu/ The tasting menu was remarkable and at one point we felt it was never going to end. The tasting menu included inventive dishes such as scallop's, razor clams, cherry clam's, steak tartare, octopus, mackerel fish and others dishes I just don't remember. The photographs I have included with this review are photos' of all but one dish. Except for the razor clams that I was not my favorite, all of the other plates were delicious. Overall it was a magnificent dining experience. I highly recommend making reservations in advance. It's a popular eatery.

Yelp
I have to admit we were almost going to leave this place! If it were not for Francisco, we would have.... glad he is there! I would love to have someone like him working with me.... he actually made a good part of the Abastos experience.... then came the rest of the team to reinforce what he was predicting.... from the serving of my beers to preparing the dishes, everything was top notch.. we had fresh plates from what they could get in the market that day.... so, our turn was, raw salmonete (fish) very delicate and for me a Chateaux plate.... incredible! We had to order another one!!!! We had their bonito tatare that was also quite good.... and the piquillo peppers... awesome, those on the house. We had the empanada gallega with amberjack, very good and tasty.... you can really tell this is fine cuisine in a tapas environment...... my wife had the merluza which is a white fish that was also chateaux style! Wow! I ate octopus thus afternoon so I was hesitant to ask for their grilled dish... well, glad I did! Totally different from the traditional Gallego style and super tasty.... then coming back and forth with Francisco who was incredible, we arrived at the deserts... we had a type of canolli with cream inside that was awesome... the dough tasted like spanish polvoron!! And before that they presented an apple confit Maserated with herbs that was ... well, have never had anything like this... we had more ordered and the chef even offered-more as a courtesy! The place is super small, no real tables... stools in the middle of the street and a large rectangular table inside for everyone to share... clean, And located in the middle of the old town where there are only walking streets... Will recommend NOT to be missed.... Congrats to the whole team...

Yelp
My favorite food trend - elevated local cuisine in a casual setting. This restaurant sits in the farmers market and sources its daily menu onsite at the farmers market. Everything we had was so amazing - I never knew razor clams could taste sweet, juicy and crunchy!!! I die. This place is worth visiting if you're in Santiago.

Yelp
Fantastic spot to try the local seafood, including what's fresh from the nearby market. Highlights include percebes, berberechos, two different raw fish dishes, and of course the grilled octopus. Can't go wrong here.

Yelp
Great restaurant, fully recommend it. We arrived and parked just down the hill, 5 minute walk and were sat down and eating within half an hour... Good contemporary twist on Tapas...

Yelp
The three-star rating I've given Abastos, which I visited on a not-particularly-busy evening, reflects my disappointment with the arrogance of the staff rather than the quality of food -- which was excellent. They make minimal -- actually inadequate -- effort to explain their tasting menus, which leaves you not fully understanding what they might be bringing to table. It was not a language issue, for they all spoke English. I think they just couldn't be bothered. Add to this that I finished one glass of wine and was never asked if I'd like another. That's either disinterest or inattention, neither of which makes me want to go back. It's too bad. The food was great, but I don't go to a restaurant for an experience that ultimately leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Yelp
I was so glad I decided to go to this place even with the horrible weather that day. Like many suggested, I tried the tasting menu which was 21 euros and I also had an additional desert. All the meals were so creative and extremely tasty, the customer service was one of the best I've encountered, the servers were all friendly and attentive. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
I just had my first meal in Spain and it was absolutely delicious. Each appetizer, tapa, and main dish was so good I consciously worked to savor each bite. The staff was attentive and very nice...especially as we both worked to communicate in each other's language. And I had the opportunity to sit with a group of Chinese pilgrims who had completed their journey today which made dinner even more enjoyable. There is indoor and outdoor seating but the space is small and there might be a short wait. It is one price for the dinner, excluding wine or other alcohol beverages. The dinner is pretty abundant but if still hungry you can order extra. I found this place on Yelp...thank you for all the great reviews. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Wow. Freshest of the fresh. What we saw today in the market behind the wall of this tapas-style night hangout arrived on our plates in some of the most interesting and original seafood plates I've ever had. As a seafood-raised Asian that's saying more than most. Raw seabass with jalapeños, shallots, and radish; three species of clams, steamed, sauced, and grilled; mussels with carrots; Spanish fish tacos; grilled octopus... Total endorsement.

Yelp
This was one of the best meals I have ever eaten. The tasting meal for 21 euros was a bargain. We did not have a reservation, but came late for lunch and were seated in the small section attached to the market. Our waitress (whose name I unfortunately forget) was super. She speaks 4 languages and was just the correct amount of attentive. I regret we were not able to make our reservation the next day since we had to get back to Portugal. If you are in Santiago de Compostela, this restaurant is worth a visit.

Yelp
Ouffff the best culinary experience in Santiago de Compostela. Great environment and classy food...

Rick C.

Yelp
Well, this looked good from reviews. But the food was way over-priced for the quality. And the waiter was arrogant and did not spend the time to explain the very few menu options. Basically we were disappointed relative to other choices in Santiago.

Lauren A.

Yelp
This was some of the best food I've eaten in ages. Delicious fish tapas - I went with bream cerviche, hake, scallops and tuna tartare... all fresh and full of flavour. Service was also excellent. Really friendly guy who spent time going over the menu in English and helping me choose, and good casual spot.

Yelp
I come all the way from across the pond. A NYC native. The food on on point. Both bar tapas and the formal dinning room across the street. A MUST TRY! Tapas Tapas Tapas. Seafood is VERY fresh.

Yelp
Delicious! Definitely make a reservation or get there early to give your name. It gets packed. Also, definitely not cheap by any means. The food is fresh and delicious but definitely over-priced. You'll probably have to sit picnic style on benches across the street as the interior gets filled quickly. I thought the food and "ambiente" were definitely worth two thumbs up.

Hector V.

Yelp
Great service and be open to the unexpected and really good flavors. The octopus was great and so was the rest of the meal. Be sure to drink Drink the Ribeiro wine.

S C.

Yelp
Worst Restuarant ever. Food was mediocre. Service just ok. Do not pay attention to former reviewers. We were there less than an hour. They asked us to leave. Really crazy. They put us across the street. Was very strange. Don't go We still can't figure out why across the street was better. HORRIBLE

Paul T.

Yelp
This place was highly recommended so expectations were high. I will agree with most of the other reviews that the seafood is fresh. However there were a few things that did not meet expectations. It was a little bit odd that we were asked to eat at the bar instead of the restaurant, I was hoping to sit and enjoy a relaxed lunch rather than sitting on a high chair on a communal table, but I just went with it. The other thing that was unusual was the very limited menu. There were only about ten items to choose from. They really pushed for their "degustation" menu. I thought that they had something else to offer aside from the limited menu offered, but all it was about five dishes they picked from their menu, served in one plate to be shared. So basically I paid double for 5 dishes that I had to share. Also we were given no bread, while the other customers that popped in for a drink were given complimentary bread and potato chips. Based on this experience I would not recommend. It falls short of what it pretends to be, so it does not feel like fine dining neither it is place with big portions at a good price. It is in a class of its own and I do not mean this as a compliment.

Roberta W.

Yelp
This is a unique experience in a sea of tapas restaurants. It is located at the fish market so every day's menu is different. You can sit outside and have tapas and a glass of wine or go inside for the 5 course chef's special. We started with clams in a delicious broth with fabulous bread to soak up the broth. That was followed by a fish taco with vegetables and then a sea bream dish. Haute gourmet food in an unassuming atmosphere and very reasonable prices. $21 for five courses.

Jim R.

Yelp
Brilliant. If you love wonderfully fresh local ingredients, presented in complete harmony, this is your place. Nothing is overblown. Seasonings do not overpower the delicate balanced flavors. Best tasting menu deal in Europe. No kidding.

Gerry O.

Yelp
What else can you say. I've just walked 50 miles and I would have done it just to eat here.
