Google
It's freshly made custard that's (sadly) poured into containers, kept frozen, then scooped out per order. Frozen custards amazingly thick, smooth, and creamy texture is best enjoyed straight from the machine and onto your cone/cup. When is poured, frozen, then scooped out it loses most of that amazing texture. It's still enjoyable.

Google
Great friendly service. Can sample and see which flavor suits best. Small menu but good creative options available. Tried the chocolate almond and black raspberry per staff recommendation- both were great. Almond flavor was very strong with tiny mix-ins. Raspberry was mild. Got the small one scoop in a cup which turned a bit too melty pretty quick...

Google
Took my whole family here, including my 96 year old grandma, who loves ice cream and had never had frozen custard before. I'd told them in advance they were coming and they asked my grandma's favorite flavor, then made sure to have it for her! It was a very positive, family-oriented experience. Cam was super friendly and kind (and understanding when my toddler decided making a mess was just as enjoyable as eating her sweet treat).

Google
This is my go-to place for special occasions. We get all our cakes and desserts from here. Everything always looks and tastes amazing. And now they deliver!!

Google
Their Facebook ad for pumpkin custard in a waffle cone looked so appealing that my family drove 30 minutes to the nearest Abbott’s in Lexington Center. However, we found the place dirty and poorly stocked. They didn’t have any pumpkin custard or waffle cones available, and the warm caramel I tried tasted burnt; it was too chewy, like candy, and not a hot liquid as I expected. Additionally, there were melted custard treats in the display case. Because of this experience, I will never trust another Facebook ad or revisit Abbott’s.

Google
One of the best local businesses in Lexington!! Joe is so so kind and always willing to give back to our community. The custard is always superb and the chill wheels are incredibly delicious. Definitely a must-visit place in Lexington and a great staple for locals when looking for custard as well as their delicious cakes and pies. They also can provide dessert at events such as parties which is incredibly underrated and something everyone should consider for their next event!!

Google
Abbots in Lexington is amazing. The frozen custard tastes so much better than ice cream, it just pops with creamy richness and complex flavor without being too fatty or too sweet or too icy. Their fudge-Oreo-vanilla is the best ice cream I’ve had in a year, at least. Also, the people behind the counter are super nice and cheery and prices are great. 5+ stars.

Google
Went in for some custard but didn’t know what i wanted. A young lady by the name of Lizzie helped me out and was very helpful a with a first time customer. Will definitely be seeing me back here again looking to try many of the appealing flavors they have. Would definitely recommend to someone who is on the fence about trying something new!

Yelp
The custard is so creamy and amazing, I highly recommend trying it if you're an ice cream lover. It's something a little different. Friendly staff, small place with some seating outside in the downtown area. Only a small handful of flavors. They also sell some other treats like cookie sandwiches, and pints you can buy. So delicious!! It's like eating a thicker more churned ice cream, and perhaps less sugary tasting. I wish I had one of these closer to my house.

Yelp
The store said that it's been around since 1902 so we gave it a try. In honor of the Celtics winning the championship, they also were giving out free mint chocolate sprinkles which we took full advantage of. We got the maple walnut and Oreo and they were both just ok. Maple walnut was an interesting flavor but it did not have much 'walnut' flavor or pieces in it. The Oreo did not have much Oreo either. They both also came a little more on the melted side which is not how I like my ice cream. The service was good, though. Overall, I'd say the ice cream is just ok. 7/10

Yelp
I don't know what's going on with this Abbott's location. Several times over the mast months I have shown up and the site is totally shuttered. Quite frustrating as I live 2 hours from Lexington. There was a post online that suggested that this site would reopen in December 2025. WTF?

Yelp
Tasty custard just a stones throw away from the Lexington bike path. Great treat to breakup a fun bike ride

Yelp
This used to be a great shop, but has consistently gone downhill in the last couple of years. I don't know if they've changed owners or if the owner just doesn't pay attention or care. They are often not open when they claim to be like now at 6:45 on a summer day, with no explanation or notification. When they are open, you never know what kind of service you're going to get. And what good is having kids wear gloves if they don't change them - they scoop and take money and scoop again.

Yelp
My family was on vacation and we stumbled across this gem. We are still dreaming about the delicious chocolate almond frozen custard. My kids got the vanilla m&m custard and it was so good too! Best frozen I've ever had. Wish there was an Abbott's around my area !

Yelp
Drove here twice in one day because of inaccurate hours. Said they opened at 2 till 9 pm. Came again from another town and while doors were open at 8ish, we weren't given service because now they close at 8, not 9. I explained we came here twice in one day and really wanted to try their custard (as we drove over an hour) and they didn't care. Refused to serve us or open up registers. Really awful experience. If someone really loved my business and made that much of an effort to come to it, I would just give them ice cream. Probably would've tipped them $20 cash for taking care of a customer with some kindness.

VA C.

Yelp
Came out for a nice stroll with my husband. We decided to stop in to try the frozen custard. Before even getting our order, we were disappointed by the service. The young female at the register appeared unhappy to check me out as she tossed the card reader at me. Then we paid $5 for a kiddie cup of melted Oreo flavored frozen custard. Though I was hopeful and wish I could give this place more credit, will not be returning here.

Yelp
The Frozen Custard is not like Ice Cream it is denser and contains eggs! It tastes very Creamy i am sure you will love all the flavors. There are also 5" diameter Frozen Custard sandwiches with large round cookies on top and bottom!

Yelp
I dropped in to Abbott's a little after 4 o'clock on a Thursday afternoon. The place was packed and there was a shift change while I was waiting in line. I was really impressed by how well the young woman behind the counter did at managing all of her tasks and keeping people happy and keeping people moving, that's just a bonus on top of the fact that their frozen custard is amazing. Really, really delicious. Thanks so much.

Yelp
I've been hunting for custard that is comparable to hodgman's in Maine. I can't say that I will ever find it, but this place came the closest so far. The custard here is a similar silky texture, though it melts faster, and the chocolate almond was so good I took two pints home. The vanilla was not flavorful enough for me but was a nice complement to the chocolate almond. The girl helping us was patient and let us try some flavors while we waited for my sister. The shop is cute and tidy, and indoors with AC unlike many frozen custard stands in Maine. There was a selection of less than 10 flavors for the day. This is better than the three that hodgman's has every day. The custard is the type that is scooped, not like the ones that come out of a soft serve machine (when I see this I feel like I've been duped).

Yelp
Great custard for a price based on its quality. Very smooth and not overly rich or sweet. They don't have too many flavors beyond the basics, but you can never go wrong with vanilla! My boyfriend and I split a small in a cup, which I thought was the perfect amount between us. The service is fast and friendly. The shop is new and clean, and seems to be pretty popular. I'll be back here for my next frozen custard fix. I hope they rotate in more interesting flavors!

Yelp
Just walking downtown for a few hours after lunch and my friend spotted frozen custard of which neither of us have ever had. She went in and the server was super friendly. Since we were sharing she decided on a large with 3 of their flavors of the day: vanilla, chocolate almond and strawberry shortcake in a cup. There was a bowl of waffle cone pieces available as samples so she took some and sprinkled them on top. About $5.50 for a large tax included. We sat across the shop in the Adirondack chairs in the lawn of the library on a breezy, rather cool July day. It was perfect! You could taste the presence of eggs in the vanilla, the chocolate almond was my favorite...full of nuts and just the right amount of chocolate flavor. The strawberry shortcake had fresh strawberries and cake pieces with a hint of strawberry flavor. Since this was our first time for custard in this manner, my friend was expecting the vanilla to be more like the custard in creme brûlée. I thought it was good but if offered homemade ice cream, I would prefer that more. Glad we tried it. Great waffle cone crumbles!!

Yelp
Closed at 6pm on Thursday 10/12. No hours posted on door, but website says they are supposed to be open until 8pm. Would be nice if they updated their hours on the website or posted something on the door.

Yelp
Who doesn't love custard? And who didn't know what custard was before Abbott's came to Lexington? I didn't! I had know ideal it's basically ice cream with eggs...and what you get from eggy ice cream is a smooth, creamy, delicious dessert that you what more and more of! Each day there are 3 staple flavors and then 3 to 4 rotating flavors. They also have giant Oreo cookie sandwiches and chocolate covered bananas! This has become a destination for our kids - and something they ask for regularly. We also love to go! Only downside is the layout. The cash registers should have been places as far inside the shop as possible and the glass display closer to the door. There is always congestion at the entrance and the flow to get in and out is a bit annoying. Otherwise this place is great!

Yelp
I've become a frozen custard fan and was happy to see it was relatively close for purchase in Lexington. There was a line when we went on a Sunday afternoon but it moved quickly. I will say the flavors are somewhat limited. I was expecting a bigger list of choices. They also have freezers with pints for sale and there was a bigger variety in the cases than on the board. We picked up a peanut butter chocolate pint (have not tried yet) and a scoop of the cake batter in a cup with heath bar on top. The cake batter was very good. It tasted like frosting. I really liked the heath bar on top. I see they also have that as a flavor so perhaps next time. The total came to $14 which is a bit pricey for one scoop and a pint but you can tell it's really nice quality so I'm sure that's included in the price. We'll definitely pop in again to try more flavors.

Yelp
Delicious frozen custard. This is my second time coming here. Friendly employees and nice area. Will come back again soon. Thumbs up!

Yelp
I've been eagerly awaiting the opening of Abbott's Frozen Custard Lexington... and it lived up to my hopes! I'm from Wisconsin where we have something of a love affair with frozen custard, and it's always been a little heartbreaking to me that I've never been able to find custard of comparable quality in the Boston area. From the moment I walked into Abbott's, though, I could tell it would be a different story because they have what it seems so many "custard" shops in New England lack: a frozen custard machine! Custard has to be served fresh - if you're scooping it hard from a container, it ain't frozen custard. I ordered a sundae with chocolate custard and hot fudge, and both were divine. The flavor and consistency were absolutely spot-on. The shop itself is clean and cute, with a decent amount of seating. The prices are a little high, but for custard this delicious, who cares? I will definitely be back.

Yelp
We took a day trip to do the battle trail at Minute Man State Park. After we were done, we took a ride thru Lexington and found Abbott's across from the green. We were so excited because we rarely see frozen custard and we were overdue for a snack! Because of Covid, we did not go in to the store, but they were taking orders at the door. It was a small list of ice cream flavors but it was delicious! Service was fast. we ordered a kid size and a sundae - which were both good size. Look forward to going back when we return to the area!

Yelp
Wow, If I had a choice of any ice cream or Abbott's Custard it would Abbott's hands down. I had the chocolate and it was outstanding but they did have a nice selection of flavors. Such a smooth consistency. Nice little shop , ample seating and a clean interior.. The chocolate was outstanding.

Yelp
This place has ruined me! I'm a vanilla soft serve connoisseur, so I was excited to try custard, which I've never had before. Custard is ice cream made with more eggs, so it is ultra creamy. The vanilla custard is my new favorite summer treat. It's silky, creamy, smooth, and rich. It is really decadent. I've heard some complain there isn't enough flavor...As a super taster, I think it's fantastic. The vanilla is perfectly creamy and smooth and just enough sweet. I'll never be able to go to a regular ice cream place and be the same haha. Can't wait to come back to Abbott's soon!

Carlos D.

Yelp
The ice cream was melted at the time of serving. The strawberry milk shake was watery and barely have any strawberry flavor. Would not recommend at all

A A.

Yelp
Used to love and frequent this place. Quality has gone down by a lot lately. The flavor was not there. The frozen custard was semi melting. The strawberry milkshake we ordered was loaded with sugar but tasteless otherwise. My 4 year old wouldn't even touch it. Very disappointed how this neighborhood favorite had become.

Yelp
I like this spot. Ice cream is good though the portions are tiny. Don't come here if your child has a nut allergy. We brought my friend's son who has an allergy and they responded that they can't guarantee that there is no cross-contamination. Well, I would say they put 0 effort in as even the toppings are all messy and mixed up. Gummy bears next to Reese's Pieces and jimmies next to PB cups. Don't think they used different scoops. Disappointing and very inconsiderate.

Tracy A.

Yelp
This place is great. My parents always buy the frozen custard cakes from the Arlington store for holidays and to bring to parties. Since they are such big fans, I decided to enroll my dad in the Custard Club so he and my mom could get some nice treats without having to go out during COVID. They have been so pleased with the custard and really look forward to getting their delivery. Aside of having awesome custard, I have to give a shout out to the people who work there and manage the whole operation. They really know how to run a business with kindness, courtesy, and positivity, which we could all use more of right now! I mean, yeah, the custard is awesome, but the people are, too! :)

Sara M.

Yelp
Great custard but poor hygiene. The person who made my cone placed it down on the counter without a napkin of anything underneath it. The counter was dirty and had a few hairs on it.
google avatar

D H.

Yelp
Welcoming staff and a great variety of flavors. I'd have liked the custard a tad colder and firmer sovit didn't melt quite so fast but the flavor was fabulous.

Chad L.

Yelp
Nice kids work there. Great stop along be bike path with family. Decent custard. My kids love the place...go figure :) Having lived in WI I got spoiled by some world class frozen custard (Michaels in Madison) so while it was wonderful to have some Abbott's frozen custard it wasn't especially memorable for me and my wife. That said, if you've not had mind blowing frozen custard then you'll likely find this place most excellent.

J G.

Yelp
COVID update: takeout only, credit/debit only. Ice cream is still fresh tasting and delicious. I do think its a bit overpriced for the sizing, but it's lexington so I guess that's to be expected.
google avatar

Kathleen M.

Yelp
The frozen custard is OK. But but the room is sterile franchise. Lights too bright. Colors too campy. No atmosphere at all. I mean it's an ice cream store so I'm not expecting the Ritz; but still. It has the look of a chain looking to franchise, i.e. professional noticeable. Sort of a baby blue donut shop. However, the frozen custard is competent frozen custard.

Karir L.

Yelp
Yummy frozen custard but really poor hygiene. Serving without gloves when handling food items, among several customers that involed handling of dollar bills. The waffle cone was picked up and prepared with bare hands and NO napkins around the cone. It's quite disgusting especially in times like this.
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
This was my first actual custard ever. We went today just to try the vanilla and chocolate in order get a baseline on custard in general. I was so impressed by the texture and flavor, I am definitely coming back here. Farewell icecream...
google avatar

Jack N.

Yelp
Could be better. Let's start with the product. Visiting from Georgia I found their product to not be high in flavor. Pistachio/pineapple tasted some of pistachio, no pineapple. Butterscotch was higher in flavor. Frozen custard in Georgia scores higher in flavor. Service: orders for three people were taken and the cashier needed to have them dictated back by the customer. Yeah, it's noisy... (the compressor noise alone is noisy, throw on the customers jabbering, space is tight)... needs a better system to make sure customers are heard.

Doug L.

Yelp
My visit to Abbott's in Lexington was the first time I ever tried frozen custard. It was delicious! I've already been back twice and they haven't even been open for a full week. I have tried the chocolate chocolate chip, the butter pecan, and the PB cup, and they all tasted great. The staff was extremely friendly too! I will definitely be a regular at this place.

Ashley L.

Yelp
Not bad came right when they opened so they didn't have all the flavors which was disappointing but I got the salted caramel which was good can't complain

Jade T.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I went to Abbott's last night and we both enjoyed our frozen custard! We will definitely be going back there.

Lucy W.

Yelp
Stopped by on a beautiful Friday evening. Perfect spot to get a treat to enjoy in town. Custard was delicious- we loved the strawberry and chocolate almond. The staff was really friendly, helpful, and patient when I had a hard time making up my mind. I'll be back. More flavors would be nice- but the fantastic taste and texture of the fresh custard makes up for limited selection.

Eric B.

Yelp
Custard is good but Abbott's is not accommodating to nut/treenut food allergies. Poor training for staff and not prepared to confirm that equipment has been cleaned since last batch. Disappointing.

Chris S.

Yelp
Ordered cake from here that was amazing. Only complaint is that I had to go in person to order cake because no one answered phone or returned message. Frozen yogurt is also the best I've ever had

Alisha O.

Yelp
Delicious custard. Sadly the polaroid camera was not working. Good customer service and very clean! Highly recommend chocolate almond. Also there is free water if you've been biking the Minuteman.
