The 12 Best New Restaurants In Nashville 2024

"We’ve never set out to eat our weight in lentils, but after trying the hearty tomato and berbere-laden stew in the center of the vegetarian plate at Abem, that quest looks pretty appealing. This is the newest Ethiopian restaurant in town, and it’s one of the best options for a soothing late breakfast/early lunch that you’ll want to repeat over and over again. Drink some spiced tea, a liquid form of the greatest hug you’ve ever received, and order the lentil sambusa, a perfectly flaky pocket containing delicious black lentils. The small, one-room cafe is bright and perfect for digging into sauteed beef jerky in the quanta fir-fir, and tearing into the homemade injera with gusto." - ann walczak, carlo mantuano, jackie gutierrez jones 2

My husband and I had the best experience at Abem! The service was attentive and welcoming. The owners are lovely and personable - they helped us put together our perfect platter, and it did not disappoint! The restaurant is clean, and beautifully decorated. You can tell they really care about the quality of your experience and meal. We will be back for sure. Highly recommend!!

Abem is hands down my favorite Ethiopian restaurant in Nashville. Everything here is made fresh, in-house, and you can taste the love in every bite. The food is absolutely incredible. I have never had lamb this tender in my life. Every dish I’ve tried has been full of flavor and cooked to perfection. They even make beets taste good. The service is always pleasant, the atmosphere is beautiful, and the music is a vibe. It’s the kind of place where you feel welcome the moment you walk in. Everyone I’ve brought here has left happy, full, and already planning their next visit. If you haven’t been yet, please go support them. They’re truly something special.

Yesterday was my first time having Ethiopian cuisine, but it certainly won't be my last. Genet and Mezmur are absolutely delightful! The restaurant is clean & beautifully decorated & the food is DELICIOUS! Mezmur was so attentive to us, explaining every dish & what to expect. Genet came out & explained the authentic spices used in her cooking. I'm convinced her secret ingredient is love because you can taste it in every bite. We enjoyed the vegetarian platter along with Awaze tibs. My friend had coffee that she said was amazing & I had the Ethiopian spiced tea and that was great too! We are planning to go back regularly until we've tried everything on the menu. It was simply a divine experience!

It was my first time, but it will not be the last. Service and food were wonderful. I enjoyed the Sambusas so much, I had to grab a few to go! 😋 Be sure to eat in, my chicken dish came out out of the kitchen sizzling! Fantastic food,

It was my friend's 1st time eating Ethiopian food and having Ethiopian tea. She loved everything for the stellar customer service the delicious food to aromatic Ethiopian tea. The atmosphere was quaint, pleasant and light. The owners were so kind in explaining everything. I am an avid coffee drinker and ALWAYS have lots cream/sugar in my coffee🥴🤪. Well, with the Ethiopian coffee ALL I had was a teaspoon of raw sugar and thoroughly enjoyed every drop! 😋 If looking for an 5 star Ethiopian restaurant, look no further!

First thing I noticed when stepping into Abem, it felt. Clean, cool Modern aesthetic! Had the lamb tib and veggie plate and well…there’s nothing left, a few years back my old favorite spot closed down and honestly nothing compared till now, the food is amazing, me and my wife are going to make it a point and frequently come here.

I recently visited this Ethiopian restaurant in Nashville and it completely exceeded my expectations. I'm originally from Japan and was in town for a conference and I craved Ethiopian food. Having lived in Addis Ababa for nearly four years, I’ve developed a real appreciation for authentic Ethiopian cuisine—and Abem did not disappoint. The food was incredibly flavorful and brought back so many memories of my time in Ethiopia. In fact, some of the dishes were even better than what I remember from Addis. Everything tasted fresh, well-spiced, and deeply comforting. We arrived close to closing time, but the owners welcomed us with such warmth and kindness. They didn’t rush us at all and made sure we had a great experience. That kind of hospitality makes a big difference. If you're looking for authentic Ethiopian food in Nashville, I 100% recommend Abem. It’s a hidden gem, and I’m so glad I found it!

Yelp
Went to dinner with a friend here and it was both of our first times trying Ethiopian food. Let me tell you, this was absolutely AMAZING. The food was sooooo good, we also had tons of leftovers after. The service was so good as well, the person serving us was so nice and kind. The restaurant itself is so cute and it's such a vibe to go in and drink tea and just chat. 10/10 will visit again

Yelp
I'm an out of towner and was so excited to have found an Ethiopian restaurant in the area. The owner welcomes you wholeheartedly with a big smile. I ordered the veggie plate and it really hit the spot after my hike. Everything is homemade and the injera is perfection made with 100% teff. Invite your friends, share some dishes, support this mom and pop. It's well worth it!

Yelp
What a friendly place! Service, cleanliness and food 5 stars!!! Kitfo special was fresh and delicious, with a perfect blend of butter and spice! Injera was fresh, soft authentically made with teff. I definitely will return again. Thank you all!!!
