The 12 Best New Restaurants In Nashville 2024

"We’ve never set out to eat our weight in lentils, but after trying the hearty tomato and berbere-laden stew in the center of the vegetarian plate at Abem, that quest looks pretty appealing. This is the newest Ethiopian restaurant in town, and it’s one of the best options for a soothing late breakfast/early lunch that you’ll want to repeat over and over again. Drink some spiced tea, a liquid form of the greatest hug you’ve ever received, and order the lentil sambusa, a perfectly flaky pocket containing delicious black lentils. The small, one-room cafe is bright and perfect for digging into sauteed beef jerky in the quanta fir-fir, and tearing into the homemade injera with gusto." - ann walczak, carlo mantuano, jackie gutierrez jones 2

This was our first visit to ABEM, and we were warmly welcomed by the staff from the very beginning. The establishment was visually pleasing, and the atmosphere was truly delightful. The restaurant gave the impression of visiting the home of the owner, which made the experience very special. We placed our order, and our food arrived promptly. The aroma, taste, and presentation were all very impressive. The dishes were well seasoned and exceptionally delicious. We appreciated their encouragement to enjoy the meal in a traditional manner; notably, no silverware was provided, which we found charming. We finished everything on our plates and are eager to return and try more dishes from their diverse menu.

We felt like we were back in Ethiopia! The lamb was tender, hot off the stove, and was a perfect match with the vegetarian platter. On the platter was chickpeas, greens, beets, cabbage, all of it seasoned and full of flavor. My husband who is not really a spicy food eater said great heat level on the lamb! The homemade tiramisu was delicious, nothing like the store brought tasting tiramisu we had at other restaurants. The lentil and chicken samosas were large and tasty. Staff was friendly and the customer service was excellent! Very clean restraurant and bathroom. This is the place to try and/or eat Ethiopian food!

This place is a gem! The food is fresh and absolutely delicious. My favorite order is the lamb tibs. I’ve had it plain and loved it. I’ve also had it with Awaze and it was delicious. It all depends on your spice preference. The veggie platter is equally delicious. I usually end up ordering both and taking leftovers home. I also love their sambusas. I’ve had all of them, and beef and lentil are my favorites. Try the Ethiopian spicy tea with your sambusas. The owners are so sweet and kind and the vibe of the restaurant is also nice. It’s definitely worth the drive to get there, so just do it if you live far! This is one of the best restaurants in Nashville.

Don’t miss this gem! They make their injera with 100% Teff by hand. So delicious! All the spices were fresh and on point. A vegan and vegetarian nirvana of flavors. Absolutely delicious. Great care to make each dish to perfection. We will be back! Thank you.🙏

The restaurant was clean, very welcoming. The food was very well presented. The portions was big enough. The owner himself served us, while his wife prepared our food. The food was authentic and delicious. I also mentioned it was my friend's birthday and he gifted us a dessert on the house. A highly recommended place to anyone that likes ethiopian food.

Abem is hands down my favorite Ethiopian restaurant in Nashville. Everything here is made fresh, in-house, and you can taste the love in every bite. The food is absolutely incredible. I have never had lamb this tender in my life. Every dish I’ve tried has been full of flavor and cooked to perfection. They even make beets taste good. The service is always pleasant, the atmosphere is beautiful, and the music is a vibe. It’s the kind of place where you feel welcome the moment you walk in. Everyone I’ve brought here has left happy, full, and already planning their next visit. If you haven’t been yet, please go support them. They’re truly something special.

Delicious food, amazing coffee, and the nicest people! Abem Ethiopian Coffee & Kitchen is such a hidden gem — everything tastes fresh and authentic, the place is super clean, and the vibe is warm and welcoming. My friend mentioned it was my birthday, and they surprised me with a baklava on the house! Chef Genet even came out to introduce herself and check how everything was. Mezmur was amazing too — such genuine hospitality all around. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Absolutely delicious food. The owner was very kind in explaining the different dishes to us and suggesting something that would be good for our first time trying Ethiopian food. We got a veggie spread with the injera and a lamb dish and WOW it was so pretty and so many different flavors. So so good. The coffee was also very very good. Will be coming back the next time we travel through Nashville.

Yelp
Went to dinner with a friend here and it was both of our first times trying Ethiopian food. Let me tell you, this was absolutely AMAZING. The food was sooooo good, we also had tons of leftovers after. The service was so good as well, the person serving us was so nice and kind. The restaurant itself is so cute and it's such a vibe to go in and drink tea and just chat. 10/10 will visit again

Yelp
I'm an out of towner and was so excited to have found an Ethiopian restaurant in the area. The owner welcomes you wholeheartedly with a big smile. I ordered the veggie plate and it really hit the spot after my hike. Everything is homemade and the injera is perfection made with 100% teff. Invite your friends, share some dishes, support this mom and pop. It's well worth it!
