A hidden gem I found in between HVAC calls. The menu reminded me of home (Louisiana), the flavors are tasty, and the service and atmosphere was great. I'll definitely recommend this to family and friends. The Catfish A La Abe's was "Chef's Kiss" 🔥🔥🔥. From the etoufee, the boudin I had, and even more that i saw on the menu and in person, I would definitely come back. Great choice for anyone in the area!

I feel like I have discovered oil here! A local treasure and I drive by it daily! This food is off the charts! If you know truly good, authentic Cajun food you will feel like home here! The food is from Southwest Louisiana influence, the atmosphere is from the bayou, the help is down to earth and takes pride in the food, providing a great customer experience! I’ve been waiting for someone to come from the kitchen in white rubber boots! I will be back and bringing friends with me!!

Google
Love the catfish platter! We always get a side of the collard greens and macaroni and cheese. It comes with the best cornbread ever that is both savory and sweet and my favorite - the hushpuppies. So moist and crunchy! I’ve never had a bad meal here and they’ve got a nice sized kids menu. It’s a serve yourself place when it comes to drinks, silverware and to-go platters which I prefer. Great little lunch spot!

Google
This is the place. I grew up in Louisiana, and this is the best Cajun food I’ve had in Texas. The etouffee, cornbread, gumbo, fried okra, muffaletta…it’s all delicious. The cherry on top is the incredibly nice staff. We were eating with our young kids, and I forgot to order one of their burgers “plain”. Totally my fault, but one of the women working here saw her face and knew she wasn’t going to eat the burger with all those vegetables (lettuce, tomato, etc.) on it. Again, totally my fault, but she brought a completely new plain burger for my kid…and was more than sweet about it. It saved our Mother’s Day dinner. Thanks y’all. We will be back, absolutely.

Google
Taste of Louisiana for sure! Crawfish etouffee, red beans & rice, fried okra, fried catfish, and fried shrimp are all on point! The coleslaw is really good as well. The chicken and sausage jambalaya is good. I highly recommend this place for your cajun fix.

Wow! Used to eat here decades ago when it 1st opened then we moved away. Had our first meal in years, what a great experience. We had the catfish etoufee (one grilled one fried) absolutely great. The boudin balls were terrific as was the corn and greens. Accessibility was excellent plenty of parking for everyone. Traffic is more challenging during the week.

Google
Walk in, grab that paper menu, try decide and then walk up to the counter to always the nicest people. Lots of delicious and varied dishes that remind me of New Orleans big time. But frankly, I come here for the Deli Blackened Chicken Salad. 🐓 It’ll drive you bonkers and sprinkles!

Justin Perryman

Google
Please don't share this post with my family in New Orleans, but this place rivals some of my favorite restaurants in Louisiana. The shrimp etouffee is especially fantastic. Several other dishes are also great. The desserts are equally awesome. Whenever I'm in the area I stop by for a culinary memory of Louisiana.

Yelp
Good Cajun restaurant/ market! I got the half sandwhich, cup of chicken and sausage gumbo, and side Cesar salad! So much food and under $14!!!!! You go to the counter to order and then they bring the food to you! There's a cool tree in the middle of the restaurant and they have freezers / fridges with food you can buy and cook later! They also had some yummy looking deserts but I did not try! I would come back! Good food for a good price!

Yelp
When I asked about the Cajun sampler on thr appetizer menu and was told what it was - a cup each of 2 gumbos, red beans and rice, shrimp/corn chowder and jambalaya, I commented that was too much food. The lady asked if I had been there before and when I said no, she gave me a complimentary plate of all those items. (See picture) The clear winner was the shrimp/corn chowder. It was sweet and flavorful. I ordered fried pickles. They were crispy and salty and good. I also ordered boudin balls. They were just okay. The texture was simply too mushy and there wasn't enough flavor to justify it. For my main, I got the shrimp poboy. The shrimp was small but there was plenty. It was a good sandwich. Lastly, I tried the bread pudding. This is a pass for me, maybe they had a bad day. The texture was way too mushy, even for bread pudding. And the sauce had the texture of yogurt and only tasted of sugar, no vanilla or rum or anything else.

Yelp
Excellent Food, Large Selection on The Menu, Lasabrea suggested different selections!! Gumbo was excellent chicken and sausage, tried the fried pickles, and boudin balls!! The restaurant is welcoming and has outside seating!!!

Yelp
Walked in here with no expectations but left happily surprised and full. Generous portions and solid food! Mac n cheese tastes similar to Luby's, if you like that--and love that they gave me 2 catfish in my dish with a mountain of crawfish etoufee, no skimping out here. Fries here are also cooked very well. Our waitress was very kind. I also saw a sign where they have AYCE catfish and shrimp for $19.99?? Insane value. I will definitely be back to check that out.

Yelp
I've only been to this restaurant a couple times, but each time I go it is packed, the food is good, and the staff is friendly I'm not always in the mood for Cajun food, but this place is worth a try The exterior is nothing flashing, but as you enter, you walk into a little Louisiana with a Cajun market, a sprawling (fake) tree that is the centerpiece of the restaurant, and the zydeco music playing Some tips: Ask for the daily special. If you have a sweet tooth, consider taking home one of their delicious confectionery treats Cheers!!

Yelp
**This review is for the refrigerated products available here.** I discovered Abe's a couple years ago when I won a gift card in a charity silent auction. I wish I'd tried it sooner! Abe's has a variety of deboned stuffed chickens, boudin and gumbo by the quart. Service here is outstanding and the place is as clean as it gets . I've somehow managed to come here during lunch and dinner hours, and the food being served looks wonderful and smells divine. I'll be updating this review soon enough when I have the opportunity to dine in.

Yelp
Fried shrimp platter is amazing!!! Service is always great also! Fast and always right on! Can't go wrong!

Brandon F.

Yelp
Great variety of Cajun food. I especially like the chicken and sausage gumbo and would highly recommend it to anyone. Abe's uses counter service but everyone is friendly and helpful.

Yelp
LOVE THIS PLACE!! The food is always delicious!!! They have spectacular lunch specials. Get the fried okra, it's the best I've ever had at a restaurant. Service is super friendly and if you have any issues they will fix it. Cute interior as well. Will always return!!

Yelp
Great service ! amazing cakes! Especially the chocolate and the carrot cake. Had the muffaletta on a couple of occasions. Excellent light bread, heavy on the meat and heavy on olive marinade.. perfect. And I am very particular as I cook all the time :-)

Yelp
Abe's is a great little Cajun restaurant. The service is great, the food is very good and you feel like you are seating a grandma's dinner table on Sunday evening. If you are in the Clear Lake area, stop by for some good food. The dessert aren't bad either.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing authentic Cajun food! Unbelievable menu with all my favorite Cajun classics! The desserts look amazing! The staff is super friendly and they really care that you have a great experience when you are there.

Yelp
Laissez le bon temps rouler! Another great recommendation from the cool cats at Bay Area Houston Food Lovers. To think I almost had dinner at BB's Tex-Orleans if I didn't log onto Facebook. The eatery is as Louisiana as it gets. For one, when you enter, a glance to the left and you'll see a freezer with Cajun items you can take home and cook. Also, the order counter looks like those you see in mom and pop groceries and gas stations in the state to the right of Texas. And there's zydeco coming from the speakers. Grub wise, I went with the smothered pork chop platter. The first slice of the meat was bit salty, but as I dug in further, it tasted really homey. I loved how the gravy meshed with the rice. The dinner was complemented by ample bowls featuring broccoli and cheese and red beans and rice. Simply put, I unwittingly treated myself to a Southern feast.

Yelp
Amazing authentic cajun food. It's hard finding a good Louisianan place in Texas, however Abe's hits the mark with taste and variety. The service is amazing and the people who work there are so friendly and nice :) The food comes out in a timely manner hot and fresh The inside hasn't changed since I was little. the walls have a beautiful paintings and the center tree makes the ambiance amazing and wholesome. I. Love. Abe's.

Yelp
This is only the second time I have eaten here. The first time I had the shrimp platter and it was very good, shrimp were very good & not over cooked. Today I ordered the Red Beans w/sausage & rice. All was good except the rice. It tasted like instant rice that was undercooked as it was crunchy. I never expect instant rice at a restaurant. So I was disappointed by that.

Yelp
Pros: My family loves this place. They have been eating here pretty regularly in the paste few months. They've been telling me about it since July. I finally go the chance to eat here during a recent visit. My sister and her kids like the popcorn shrimp and fries. My other sister lives the fried catfish. My husband and I shared the catfish a la Abe (blackened catfish with crawfish etoufee over the top). Cons: very heavy and filling meal.

Tracy H.

Yelp
Abe's Cajun Market and Cafe makes the most delicious shrimp poboy sandwich! Don't just get a 1/2, you will wish you had gotten a whole one. I also got a yummy piece of banana cream pie. They have a great selection of desserts. It's hard to pick just one. I got my order to go, but the ambience inside the restaurant creates a wonderful place to stay and eat. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any seafood lovers.

Yelp
It seems we never know what we will get here. We normally get the 2 Fried Catfish Baskets and two slices of cake. My husband picked up the food around 4 on Friday and said they were busy, with quite a few pick-up orders awaiting the customers. He also heard one of the crew say something about 'Here comes the Friday crowd'. Our catfish was underdone, limp, not crispy on the outside. The fries were greasy and limp, also undercooked. The cake was good. However, the slices were smaller than normal. I was really disappointed in the catfish - I had been craving it. Most of the time, the catfish is good. But it's not consistent. I was VERY disappointed in the fries. When they do them right, they are delicious - crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, with a good texture. Abe's is one of the few places where I actually enjoy the fries --- when they are done right. (To me, fries in most places are just not good.) But again, the fries here are inconsistent. The cake slices here have been, up to this time, big. We are not dainty eaters, but the slices are usually so large that the cake slices last for two meals. Not this time. We finished our slices after the catfish and fries with no problem. I don't know if this was a popular cake and they were wanting to get more slices from it than other, less popular, cakes? I fired up the oven and we put the catfish and fries in to get them done enough to eat. It angers me to pay almost $50 for takeout that I had to finish cooking in the oven. I would much rather have an extra wait to get the food than have it rushed out before it should have been because the place is busy. And please let the fry oil come back up to temp before throwing more in --- and cook them well. I realize you get busy but that is the restaurant business. Please take the time to cook the food right - you do very good catfish and fries when you do.

James L.

Yelp
I've eaten here a few times. The fried shrimp is plump and juicy, with a delicate breading of spices and flour. I didn't much care for the coleslaw. I had to doctor it with salt, pepper and some lemon. It probably needed more vinegar. It's cafeteria-style, but they bring you your food. The drinks are self-serve. Despite the good food, we don't come here a lot. It think that might be because of the space, which usually doesn't bother me. The floors are concrete, there's this odd mural of New Orleans on the wall, and a fake tree in the middle of the restaurant. They have a big bakery case. We got a brownie and a piece of red velvet cake to go. The brownie had chunks of chocolate inside and was amazing; the red velvet not so much. It was moist, but not very chocolaty at all.

Yelp
Everything we ate was amazingly good! Fried shrimp dinner with yummy coleslaw, baked potato, and cornbread!
google avatar

Chris Y.

Yelp
Food is amazing whether dining in or takeout. My only gripe is they no longer have oysters on the menu.
google avatar

Rob B.

Yelp
Fried mushrooms (sliced; hand-battered) were amazing. Would definitely get these again!!! Dining partner loved the fried okra. Both types of gumbo were delicious. Would definitely order again. Red beans were delicious. Would definitely order again. Enjoyed the oyster po-boy. Not real French bread, though, and too much bread ratio-wise. Enjoyed the popcorn shrimp po-boy. Ordered the tomato & cucumber salad but was too full to try it. Same with the cornbread. Self-serve fountain drinks with tea and Pepsi products. Service was great!
google avatar

Yelp
It feels like home The decor is super vintage Like a grandma's kitchen They only have jambalaya on Thursday The gumbo are good again nothing fancy But it feels like home Especially the chicken and sausage The service are friendly

Yelp
I love this place! The people who work there are awesome. You walk up to the counter to order, sit, and they bring out your meal. I ordered the crawfish étouffée, collard greens, cornbread, and coconut pie. The crawfish étouffée had a lot of nice sized crawfish tails. Just super delicious. The greens were superb filled with flavor and bacon. The cornbread was a big ole hunk, slightly sweet, super moist. The coconut cream pie was just okay. Of course, to be fair, I make fantastic coconut cream pie and I like mine best. The other desserts in the cooler looked fantastic though so might try one of them. Place is cute inside. If you haven't been there, why not?

Yelp
Nice busy place, clean, the ambiance is nice, serve yourself drinks, great sweet tea. Ordered the trio combo and loved the gumbo and the delicious cornbread. The boudin was just ok, I prefer it extra spicy. The boudin balls had no flavor to them at all. Didn't care for the crawfish etouffee. The black and blue dinner was too salty. Loved the fries and cucumber tomato salad. Food lacked flavor for it to be Louisiana cooking but that is just me and my taste buds. I'd come again for the gumbo and maybe try something else but no special trip. Maybe a sandwich. The all you can eat looked good and plentiful on the first serving. I ordered a praline pecan brownie to go and they gave me a regular brownie which was very disappointing once I got home 30 minutes away. Good for a one time visit I guess.
google avatar

Yelp
We were out and decided to stop in for a bite. It was a hot day so inside was nice and cool. The staff is always helpful and friendly. You order at the counter and then you find a table and they bring it to you. Their sweet tea hit the spot . I ordered the seafood gumbo and my husband ordered the fried shrimp platter with fries and coleslaw. Each entree also come with cornbread which I love. We also order fried okra , boudain balls, and fried pickles. My husband said the fried shrimp was a good value cause the shrimp are huge, the coleslaw tangy and crunchy. My seafood gumbo was ok. I like my gumbo spicy and with okra. It's just a preference for me. But the shrimp in it were so tiny. The appetizers were good, hit the spot. They have such an expansive menu so next time I'm going to try one of their sandwiches.

Kaytlin D.

Yelp
Their food is always so good! I am from Louisiana so it is nice to have Cajun food here in Houston that reminds me of home.

Yelp
This is a breathe of fresh Louisiana air in Texas. Friendly service, great food and delish dessert!

Yelp
After more than 6 years later, I returned to this place while waiting for my flight back to Phoenix, and the food still didn't disappoint. I came back with the hubby and his parents and we ordered hushpuppies, boudin balls, crawfish etouffee, cajun trio, and gumbo, and the food was still as tasty as I remembered with very generous servings. I will definitely return if I ever have a flight out of Houston.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm so disappointed with my meal during this visit, I feel it necessary to update my review, so I don't return to this place again. The catfish had waaay to much cornmeal batter on it and the seasoning had a off flavor to it. I was expecting Cajun/Creole seasoning, but this was something so off I could not finish eating it. Ew. Crawfish was so thickly battered, it was impossible to taste the crawfish. Fries tasted like the frozen batter mix potatoes. This place is not my thing anymore. Service was lukewarm. Iced tea was good though.

P C.

Yelp
Everything is always amazing, many years ago I used these folks 3 times a yr for all my business training events. Consistently great food and service!!!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was Bland and lacking overall taste which was unfortunate because the service is always stellar.

Yelp
We're regulars. May we recommend Red Beans & Rice; Gumbo; FRIED MUSHROOMS (really good), collard greens; Shrimp & Catfish; Seafood Etoufee. It's all good. Casual atmosphere. Engaging staff. Always able to be seated. Order at counter.
google avatar

Loretta A W.

Yelp
I love this place. I'm becoming a regular there. I have tried the seafood - fried catfish and shrimp. I love it. I prefer my catfish fried a little crispier but it was flavorful and delicious. I also get the red beans and rice with one side. I usually opt for the collard greens which are seasoned to perfection. If you want great food and in Webster or want to drive - this is a great place. You are greeted upon entry and they are very attentive. Fried CatfishRed Beans and Rice

Yelp
Our family loves Abe's. Food is always great. Portions are generous even on kids menu. Menu is extensive and everything has been good. Kids eat free on Mondays. Service is quick and friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Been here a few times and can't believe I haven't done a review. We unfortunately made it a quarter til closing and they were gracious enough to allow us to order and dine in. We did call ahead of time to let them know. They're food is made fresh and tastes so delicious. I especially love their homemade desserts. You can't go wrong with their towering chocolate cake or carrot cake. Given us dining in so late, I didn't get to take pictures. I had the blackened blue catfish with green beans and sweet potato casserole, that's sinfully delicious. My husband ordered the fried shrimp muffuletta with a side of coleslaw. My son ordered the fisherman's platter with fried catfish and shrimp. The meals are also served with a deliciously sweet large cornbread. Go hungry because they serve large portions.
google avatar

Chloe R.

Yelp
The tree in the middle of the restaurant gets decorated for each holiday, and they really go all out for Mardi Gras - service is always fast and friendly, and answers any questions about dietary substitutions (always goes back and asks chefs for any questions/allergies) Have never once had a contamination reaction from shrimp to my catfish, super clean and love the poboys. It's a little pricey, but always a treat to go!
google avatar

Mindy R.

Yelp
Abes is absolutely one of the best restaurants I've ever tried. I love their lunch specials that come with green beans and cornbread that is so moist. Whenever we come to Houston we always go to Abe's because it is absolutely delicious. We used to live close by, and we frequented Abes whenever we could, if people in the Nassau Houston area do not go to Abes they're missing out
google avatar

Amy M.

Yelp
Abe's is always a treat. We always enjoy our food. The service is good and everyone is always nice.

Yelp
In my stay in Houston, I ate ate 3 Cajun restaurants. Abe's Cajun Kitchen is the best. I got the fried shrimp Poboy and the Chicken & sausage gumbo. They we both delicious. I'd recommend you stop by Abe's when in Houston

Alyssa W.

Yelp
The portions are HUGE!! And everything we tried was wonderful. My husband is from Cajun country in La so we've had lots of Cajun food over the years. Abe's is among the VERY best! Also - the service and people working there are kind, helpful, and friendly. Try the bread pudding - it's TDF! But really, every dessert I've tried there has been delicious. Try this place - you'll keep coming back for more.

Marina C.

Yelp
I have to share with you this place, is one of my favorite places to eat, everything on the menu is delicious. The Catfish with crawfish Étouffée, green beans, macaroni and cheese, fried okra, cornbread.they have a variety of delicious desserts ( my favorite bread pudding ) friendly people serving the best food. Thank you.

Yelp
Love the food and portions. Great service and great food. Everything is fresh and the prices are great for this economy
google avatar

Robert R.

Yelp
Abe's daily special may be the Best Buy in the city! $10 for a big meal that always fills you up, great quality, and so tasty! I had the chicken gumbo, rice, corn bread and a side - salad. Still can't believe that I've never left hungry.
google avatar

Isaiah M.

Yelp
Got the Cajun trio with a side of mac and cheese. Boudin balls and fried pickles for the apps. The etoufee was delicious the best I've had honestly and the chicken sausage gumbo was pretty great as well. The boudin was flavored well wasn't a biggest fan of the consistency but still overall a great meal. The staff were super friendly and had great manners. Loved the vibe of this place!
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
We LOVE Abe's! Things we love to order: Fried Pickles Crawfish Ettoufee ANY of their fried seafood Their fried seafood stuffed baked potatoes Their Salad Trio All of their desserts... Literally can't go wrong with anything in this menu! There's great service and it's always very clean and the food is always very fresh.

Yelp
It's just a Great Place to Eat ! Everything is Delicious! And the Desserts will ruin a Diet in seconds !Yum Yummy
google avatar

Fabian A.

Yelp
New to the neighborhood and gave this place a try for lunch. I was impressed! Growing up in Nola I'm pretty picky about my Cajun food. Had the muffelata and boudin balls. Very tasty! I told the friendly server it was my first time and they gave me a sample of 2 gumbos and red beans. That all had great flavor. I'll definitely be back! They have a wide variety of desserts. Looked amazing!

Yelp
I order from this place on 2/27. I went inside to place my order the girl at the counter was taking my order she was talking to Her coworker while taking my order I thought she had took my order my correctly. Our family was tired we all had just got off from work and had a long day our order was ready my husband grabbed it and we left. She didn't get anything I had added to my po boy and the Mac and cheese was over cooked Did not taste good at all the shrimp did not have no flavor taste fishy I was very disappointed and I won't be going back
