Abu Omar Halal’s New Galleria Restaurant to Focus on Jordanian Cuisine | Eater Houston

"Growing from Houston’s first halal food truck in 2011 into a multi-city operation with about 20 food trucks and restaurants, this soon-to-open fourth Houston-area brick-and-mortar will spotlight traditional Jordanian cuisine with a revamped menu. Highlights include ouzi (a savory phyllo-wrapped pastry of ground lamb and rice), mulukhiyeh (braised leafy greens seasoned with coriander, garlic and lemon), and kabseh (an aromatic rice dish served with chicken or other meat). The menu also adds fresh-squeezed juices, smoothies and desserts including items made with ashta (thick clotted cream), while longtime favorites such as shawarma, falafel and kabobs will remain available. This is the first time i ever complain about this place. I always go downtown and sometimes i come here but this is the worst experience i ever got. They gave me half the portion , the fries were old and drowned in oil with no salt. The wrap was half the portion and all they had to say was : thats how it is.

Hands down, the BEST shawarma in Houston! Even though this food truck is part of a chain with locations in other cities, this one truly stands out. The flavor is unbeatable – perfectly seasoned, juicy, and wrapped just right. The service is fast and friendly, and the portions are generous for the price. I’ve tried other spots in town, but nothing compares to this one. If you’re craving authentic shawarma in Houston, this is the place to go!

I’ve ordered delivery from Abu Omar Halal via Uber Eats a few times. The 2 for 1 deals are a good. The rice and salad bowls with lamb are quality (the produce looks and tastes fresh). However, they don’t offer tzatziki sauce (the garlic sauce is not an alternative for tzatziki sauce). I’ve had specific questions before placing orders at Abu Omar Halal and each time they literally answered the phone as soon as it rang. The guys are really nice and have never rushed me off the phone (they even shared ways to save money on menu items). It’s obvious that they care about their business and their customers. Please offer tzatziki sauce and I’ll order more frequently!

Ordered chicken shawarma, no enough mayo layer and zero pickles. Ordered humus, it was supposed to come with pita bread but i just received humus without the pita. Shawarma test worst. I liked it but this time it was not worth it. Successful wasted money

Food was not the best it has been. Definitely some consistency issues as well as being overpriced. Paid approximately $14.50 for arabi chicken shawarma with fries. That’s about it. Chicken was meh. Needed more spices or seasoning or something.

Abu Omar is , has been, and will always be my favorite spot to get Shawarma! I’ve been eating here for 5+ years, today my girlfriend (who is new to this place & had the Halal plate last week) wanted to get the Same Chicken Shawarma that I let her try soo we went and the food was AMAZING as usual . The service was great because the employees had the energy that made me feel like family. I had Beef, she got the Chicken and we shared it together . Everybody that I bring here loves it too , it could be 10AM mornings or 4AM at night …. THE FOOD ALWAYS HITSSS ! Thankyou Abu Omar

This was the worst salad I have ever had. This salad is $14.50 and there was hardly any lettuce...lots of olives, corn, chickpeas...dressing was watery with no flavor. I read the negative reviews after I placed my order but thought I'd give them a chance anyway. This is the one time I wish I had listened to the reviews This was so not worth the cost

I tried Abu Omar via LunchDrop which is a food delivery service similar to Uber Eats. I tried the chicken shawarma arabi which was served with French fries and pickles. The Arabi style shawarma is served pre sliced into 7-8 bite size pieces. Packed with flavor. I want to try the beef/lamb options next time. The fries were kind of soggy, missing that signature crunch. I suggest you get a side of the garlic sauce on the side for dipping of your shawarma.

Pretty decent food truck in a slightly shady parking lot, serving shawarma. We got a double chicken shawarma wrap, which was plenty of food to feed us both. It came with fries but disappointingly the fries were under the wrap in the container resulting in soggy fries. Service could be friendlier.

3am after leaving a party , I see a parking lot filled with food trucks so I knew I had to stop. After parking and walking over I notice at least 10 different options for my choosing. After a look around I settled at Omar's. The menu was straight to the point and reasonably priced. The food came out fairly quick and there were no issues with my order. I didn't get a chance to take a pic of the food but I got quesadillas and fries. Everything was tasty and to my liking. Stop by if you're on westheimer after hours without a clue.

Ordered via Uber Eats. They advertise buy one get one free. That was false advertising. Only one came and it was sloppy and cold. The tortilla wasn't grilled or pressed as they show. Additionally, I paid for spicy tahini sauce and it was not there. I'd spend your money elsewhere. I threw this away.

I am so thankful for this place. I truly believe Houston will survive this polar vortex as a result of hard working immigrants. No power and no water and this place was a beacon of hope. In a lot with three other ethnic food trucks and a really long line we moved to the front to get an Uber eats order. Our food was ready in 15 minutes. Everything was hot and delicious. The man taking the orders was really stressed out but understandable.

I told my girlfriend not to order from here because I've never gotten good vibes from this place or any business at the food truck park on Westheimer. I was right the food looked straight ass. The pollo looked somewhat all right I guess but the white sauce looked like straight Helman's mayonaise which is gross. The gardenia mix looked flavorless. The worst part is what she got looked NOTHING like the picture they advertise on DoorDash.

If you order through Uber Eats, you will NOT get what was describedln the app. I have attached what I received compared to what the app promised. I did not receive olives, tomatoes, chick peas, jalapeno, and corn in my falafel with rice dish. Very DISAPPOINTED!!

My significant other came there to buy food, as we usually have done, but when he was leaving, he noticed the hot sauce was empty. He then asked the man politely for some more and he told him one per order. He showed him what he was provided with and he got so upset with him. No, he still didn't give him more. They were so stingy about something so minor, that it cost them paying customers. Word of mouth is powerful. Be careful how you treat people. We will never patronize here EVER.

My favorite chicken shawarma arabi in town! Their garlic sauce can't be beat and the fries are well-seasoned and so crispy! My only gripe is that they recently started serving the garlic sauce in a separate container inside the box instead of filling up the built-in compartment. The container is small and mine was only filled halfway - that's not nearly enough sauce! Overall still a good experience.

Btw, who makes shawarmas on tortillas versus Pita Bread like the rest of the world??? You guessed it this place. This is the taco bell of shawarmas, what taco bell does to tacos from Monterrey this place does to shawarmas and Lebanese street food. Enjoy the large grilled burrito called a "shawarma" but be underwhelmed by the entire experience. First and last visit.

Received wrong order and spoilt my Christmas Eve. They packed beef shawarma instead of lamb over rice. Those two names are no way confusing. Beef shawarma was dry, bland and terrible. Not recommending to anyone. Falafel over salad is dry. Fries are good but so are they at McDonald's.

I would give this place a negitive three if yelp would let me, I got the chicken Italian shawarma, the chicken was so dry, it tasted like its 3 days old, I tired too put my French fry's and extra sauce on there and I still couldent eat it, and my girl got the beef shawarma, the beef was 80 percent fat glob, and 20 percent was just actual beef and the blob was sticking on the bread so it was just ruined who else had this problem, wasted 30 dollars, and I only ate a slice, she only ate half a slice

Just stoped by for the first time to try out the food here. Unfortunately, I don't see the hype about it. Not worth it. Ordered the loaded beef fries (home cooked would had been better), beef had no flavor at all! The veggies, it looked like the guy counted how many veggies before breaking the bank! Literally!! So little veggies, hope they didn't go broke with my order. My gf got the beef shawarma and really don't recommend. Not going back.

This place is really great for a quick and tasty bite. The shawarma is authentic and definitely worth it. The guys who work in the truck are friendly, nothing about the experience was bad. It feels like being overseas. There are a bunch of food trucks in the area and when the weather is good, or if you like the sun, it can be kind of neat hanging around in that environment for a few minutes while they prepare your order. If you have a family with you then you should plan on eating in the car which can be a great thing depending on your preference. Competitive with other trucks but a bit pricey, I keep going back because it's good though.

I have been to this location several times, always having the gyro salad (which is ,in a word, AMAZING ), but today I ventured outside of my comfort zone and ordered a chicken shawarma. I have to say that I typically steer clear of shawarma because of one certain spice that tends to be overdone and almost taste sweet to me...but I still decided to give it a go and I'm so glad I did! First and foremost, it looked exactly like the pictures on Yelp and on their website, so A for presentation, but it was also still hot, fries crispy and the flavor...FANTASTIC! Their garlic sauce is so good too! I highly recommend Abu Omar Halal! This will become one of my 'go to' places for fast fantastic Mediterranean fare.
