Edit in response to the restaurant’s reply:
Thank you for taking the time to respond. I appreciate the explanation around the ingredients and pricing. Just to clarify, the dish was £14.40, and while I understand the costs involved, the issue for us wasn’t the exact price, rather that it felt like poor value for what was essentially a ham and cheese toastie, especially after a 40-minute wait.
I completely respect that not every place is for everyone, but reviews are naturally subjective, as they’re based on individual experiences. That said, I do feel that waiting 40 minutes for a light dish is objectively quite a long time. My intention in leaving this review was simply to offer honest, constructive feedback based on our visit, not to be unfair or harmful.
Original review:
We visited Abuelo yesterday and while we could appreciate the concept and vibe, our overall experience was a bit mixed.
The space was quite loud (which we understand given how busy it was), but the combination of communal tables and loud music made it hard to have a relaxed conversation. It felt like people had to talk over both the crowd and the music.
The food took nearly 40 minutes to arrive, and when it did, the portions felt quite small for the prices. One of our dishes was essentially a cheese and ham sandwich, priced around £16, which felt disappointing for the cost. We ended up needing to get something else afterward, as we were still hungry.
We understand that the concept may be more brunch-focused and that we went for lunch, but overall, the experience didn’t quite meet our expectations. That said, the atmosphere and idea behind the restaurant are nice, and with some improvements in portion sizes, pricing, and wait times, it could be a much better experience.
