"Abyssnia is an ideal neighborhood spot to bring a friend or a date if you don’t mind sharing some excellent spicy beef stew off of the same plate. The food here is Ethiopian, extremely good, and all of the vegetable dishes are vegan. Get the meat or vegetable combo, and between the different stews, injera bread and vegetable sides, you’ll have a ton of food for around $15-20 per person. Also - there’s a list of wine and Ethiopian beer, but it’s pretty limited." - Hannah Albertine

The food was fresh and delicious. Service was great as well. I would 100% come back to this place if I’m ever in Indy again!

Google
Fantastic food! Highly recommend you give it a try! Bf is vegetarian so I was trying to find somewhere we could dine and I’ve had Ethiopian once in Cleveland and it was good but it’s been a while. We got the vegetarian vegan platter which is a sampling of nearly all the vegetarian dishes they have. It was so good!! Just a great mix of flavors and I love being able to eat a different flavor with each bite. We also got a pot of the Ethiopian tea, some sort of blend similar to chai tea, very good!

Google
My wife and I ate there last night and it was wonderful. I would highly recommend getting one of the sampler platters so you can try multiple dishes. Great experience overall.

Google
This was a fantastic place to go to grab some Ethiopian food. It's quite a bit more exotic than what you typically get in this country, with an entire palette of new flavors to try. We had the TA2 combination plate, which had a great variety of dishes to try. All of them were delicious and flavorful. We shared a platter among two adults and two children and it was generous to cover all of us.

Google
Love trying international food but this is the worst food I’ve ever ate it was honestly disgusting maybe I just don’t like Ethiopian food tho. Waiter was horrible waited 20 minutes for drinks and even longer for our order to be taken she was serving the whole restaurant tho so I tipped anyway but honestly they need another server. Food was also very expensive over 50 dollars for me and my girlfriend. Inside of the restaurant was terrible outdated tacky interior. I wouldn’t waist my money on this place personally.

Google
The food was very good. The portions were enough for one person. The service was late. The coffee ceremony was very unique. The coffee pot was $25 shared by 5 people but was worth it. I would suggest getting individual dishes instead of the sampler. The baklava was very dry don't recommend it.

Google
Finally found some fantastic Ethiopian food in Indianapolis! Had the vegetarian combo. The spices were great and the injura was the perfect kind of spongy. The only thing worth point out for sensitive lungs is that they do burn some kind of sage pretty strongly, which took my week lungs a bit to overcome.

Recent transplant to the Champaign IL area, from the Dallas TX area where we enjoyed really good Ethiopian at different restaurants. Indy is the closest Ethiopian we have and we have had Abyssinia twice now and it’s pretty good. As vegetarians, we always go for the veggie combo.

Clayton G.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Super consistent and always a great experience. Not fancy, just real, authentic, and very appreciative of your visit. I'd love to see this place sick around for a long time, so go see for yourself. Veggie combo is my go-to. I can have leftovers the next day. Delicious.

Yelp
Wow, it's been several years since I last visited Abbysinia. We took our kiddos over the weekend to experience an Ethiopian meal firsthand. We frequently order Ethiopian carry-out, but I wanted them to see how vibrantly the food is presented and interactive the whole experience is. We ordered a cabbage, spinach and potato hand pie along with the ground beef version. I thought the vegetarian one was much more flavorful and interesting. We also ordered the vegan platter for two and really enjoyed each of the flavors. The service was OK, but we struggled with the language barrier to learn more about new dishes to try and discuss allergies. Are typical go-to is Axum Ethiopian. We order carryout just about once a month- I can't get enough of it. Abbysinia has the full set up for Ethiopian coffee ceremonies and plentiful seating. The vibe is a little interesting with a big screen TV and neon lights front and center. Overall, a positive experience. Set aside some time to work your way through this strip mall. You will also find a Jamaican patty shop, Mexican bakery, and more.

Luvmi W.

Yelp
Very different flavor than Axum Downtown. Try it!). I realy enjoyed it. Bill came to $30. enough to feed two

Yelp
Finally got a chance to get into Abyssinia and try some Ethiopian food. It did not disappoint. I've been wanting to try it and the time was right. I went with a friend. The inside was homey and they invited to sit where we would like. They brought menus and let us mull over them for a bit. Water arrived promptly and we both ordered a glass of honey wine! First drink was potent but delicious. My friend ordered the Yedoro Tibs. This was tender chicken sautéed with rosemary, onions, and peppers with mild or hot berbere sauce. I decided on the combination plate TA #2 so I could try all the things. It was served in njera and had the following items: Yebeg Alchea(tender lamb prepared in niter Kibeh spiced with onions, garlic, ginger root, and curry) Sega Wett(lean beef cooked in berbere sauces seasoned with Abyssinia spices) Dora Wett(chicken breast marinated in lemon, sautéed in niter kibbeh, stewed in berbere sauce with onion , ginger root, garlic, served with a hard boiled egg) Misir wett(red split lentil cooked in berbere sauce and fine herb) spinach yellow beans(garbanzo split beans flavored with curry and herbs) carrots and green beans House salad My favorites was the carrots and greens beans followed closely by the Yebeg Alchea(lamb). It had a nice spice. Hot but not too hot. I ordered mild. I couldn't have handled the hot! Food came out very fast and they included a separate dish of njera for eating our meals. This is the sour fermented flat pancake like bread that is spongy. In Ethiopian culture you use the bread instead of utensils. Overall it always a great experience and I'd definitely return.

Yelp
This is just what I was looking for in Ethiopian food in Indy. I love they use real teff flour and the entire menu is GF. We did two large samplers and everything was fresh, fragrant and delicious. The lady who served us the Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony was friendly and gracious and helped us understand what all goes into it. RICH, very dark, perfectly seasoned coffee. I really enjoyed the space. Open, very clean, plenty of room which was appreciated. I have been to Ethiopian places all over North America and sometimes they are crowded and small, this place has plenty of room for all and still is cozy. Beautiful and delicious evening. I will be bringing loved ones here!

Amy T.

Yelp
By far my mostest favorite Ethiopian restaurant ever. A very good friend suggested this place long ago when we worked downtown Indy together. The service here is marvelous. The owners are outstanding folks. They are humble & very kind. You'll taste the love & passion in their cuisines. I've eaten in & carried out many many many times over, throughout the years. Not once have I ever been disappointed. Planning on going again & more often, once the interstate folks get their groove on. TBH, I can hardly wait. If you've never tried Ethiopian, what on God's green earth are you waiting on ;)? Brace yourself tho, IMO this type of deliciousness is meant to be shared with your party & lovingly enjoyed. You won't have the typical flatware in the event you opt to be seated in the traditional setting. Yes, that took a second to wrap myself around. What do you mean, we don't get forks...was what I asked. Goofy, I know this now. The Injera is so fresh & absorbs the fabulous dishes with each side that accompanies your choices. I've even ordered a to go meal for the next day funtivies a few times actually. It keeps well. Just describing this on Yelp now forces me to seek other routes excluding the interstate :) ! This might be a seek & find mission this coming weekend. Will our Indy freezing temperatures/snow prevent me? For authentic Injera... we'll see what happens. Stay well & safe everyone, Amy

Destiny O.

Yelp
My sister and I were welcomed and didn't have to wait long to be seated. The waiter was very nice and there when we had questions. The food was amazing we really enjoyed the potatoes and beef tibs. We will definitely be returning and trying more from the menu.

Tom H.

Yelp
A friend made reservations for Thanksgiving, also her birthday. We were set for a 3pm arrival. I see my friends in the parking lot. We're all dressed up. We go to the door. It's closed, as in no-lights-on. We're floored. She loves this place. It would be my partner's and my first foray into Ethiopian food. But we'll never know. There was no sign on the door, nothing. You can go, and maybe you'll get food, and maybe it'll be good-- but we can't tell you because we went down the street and ate Mexican food. It was a good meal. It wasn't Ethiopian. Maybe yours will be. Are you feeling... lucky?

Christian C.

Yelp
Parking is amazing as this is nestled in a strip center. Upon walking in the door I immediately smelled the spices & viewed all of the cultural art and paintings they have on display. It was just myself and my friend in the whole establishment (minus the wait & kitchen staff) they were quite friendly as well as knowledgeable of the menu. Both my company and myself are familiar with Ethiopian cuisine so we knew generally what we had a taste for & were open to trying a few new items, which the combo plate options are perfect for this! This restaurant was very affordable & the taste was impeccable. The only thing I'd share negative about them was that it wasn't all hot! I love for my food to be piping hot when it first comes out & that just wasn't the case with the lentils (still full of flavor) Outside of this, I'll be returning more people need to know about this place. I've lived within 10 minutes & never knew it existed.

Taiwo O.

Yelp
The food was really delicious! The lady was pleasant and explained honey wine and the meals we had

Bella S.

Yelp
Great owner!! Great food and service highly recommend. We also tried the chicken samboosas and they were delicious. We got two platters of TA2

Rachael P.

Yelp
Truly delicious injeera and vegetarian dishes! The yellow lentils are by far my favorite, and my husbands chicken leg dish came out from the kitchen still boiling!

Taryn M.

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times and each time the food has been pretty good! It's very flavorful. You peel the bread off or use the side of bread they have to scoop the food with. It's a great experience if you're looking to try something new and possibly out of your comfort zone of eating with spoon or fork. They also have a very good honey wine. It's pretty strong, but I definitely recommend it!

Michael K.

Yelp
We stopped by this GEM on our way to Chicago for lunch. The food was athletic and the service was great.

Tina H.

Yelp
As always, we were completely satisfied with our experience at Abyssinia. Our waiter was friendly, helpful, and attentive. The owner Abraham walked around a bit and gave us a warm smile and we were able to share how much we were enjoying our meal. The spice level was fantastic. The lamb and beef dishes were filled with tender chunks of meat and were on the hotter side, with lovely complex spices. The lentils (my favorite), greens, cabbage, and potatoes were pleasantly spiced and mild. This made for a nice balance to get a punch of flavor and then cool it down a little. Oh, and we also ordered the cottage cheese, which gave us another nice cooling option. The injera was (in my opinion) sour, floppy, and clammy, which is exactly how we love it!! I dream about this bread sometimes. There's nothing like it. The spiced tea was perfect on a cold Saturday afternoon. Many thanks to the Belachews for another great experience. Love, love, love.

Fabian A.

Yelp
Super friendly staff. Our waiter was very helpful with us as first timers. Coming in from NY. Regarding what I ordered. The flavors weren't all there for me. But I did get to try the lamb soup. And that I enjoyed it much more. Here's a pic of what I ordered personally. Also I think it's a bit pricey compared to other options and considering I'm in Indiana. In NY, Ethiopian food is less pricey. Bit weird eh?

Laura M.

Yelp
This was my 2nd visit to Abyssinia and it was just as good as the 1st. Abyssinia is a family owned, legit Ethiopian restaurant in a strip mall on 38th St. It's small and casual and staff are very helpful explaining the menu. I had the vegetarian combo which is samples of several dishes such as potato's, collard greens, and lentils all on plate sized injera bread. I enjoyed all the different flavors and there is so much of it you can get about 3 meals. It was so good I forgot to take pics I just ate. It's also fun to eat with your hands. Basically using the bread to scoop up your meal. Definitely give this place a try!

Jaeana D.

Yelp
I've had this place bookmarked for a while so when I had a friend who also loves Ethiopian food come to visit I knew we had to go. We got the vegetarian platter for 2 and it was more than enough for both of us. I also got the veggie sambuusa and I scarfed them down so fast I couldn't take a pic. Also make sure you try the honey wine it was delicious. We went around 530p on a Friday and were they only people there for a bit before the groups started coming in. Only downside was that we really didn't get checked on during our meal we had to flag or waitress for for more injera and it also took about 30 mins for us to get our check. But overall I highly recommend!!

Sandra D.

Yelp
Yummmmmmmy!!!!!!!! One of the best foods we've ever eaten. My youngest boy, who is a very picky eater, loved the food. It was delicious. Excellent customer service and a very clean establishment. I highly recommend!

Fatima G.

Yelp
Authentic Ethiopian food in a casual set up. 3 words to describe my experience. The speciality here is Injera which is a fermented crepe made out of Teff Flour. Teff flour is similar to quinoa flour - made of seeds. It is extremely healthy and filling with just 1 crepe. The Yemisir Sambusa (deep fried conical pastry with lentils) was just the right spice and warmth to get us going. The abyssinia veg combo comes with 7 veg sides of curry on top. The fun part is sharing the meal with family and friends from the same plate. The sharing talks about understanding and signifies cultural anthropology in different regions. Comfortable spice level and good healthy veg choices. Highly recommend for a good diverse experience and getting to know new cultures.

Jemmie W.

Yelp
I am not a good judge of whether this place is "authentic", but the food is excellent and most of the other patrons were Ethiopian when we were there. The injera - which my girls call "holey bread" (get it?) - was tasty. The lamb and beef dishes we ordered were delicious and had a kick. Ethiopian food has a long history, is delicious, and deserves much higher profile than it has in the US.

Carla S.

Yelp
My husband and I went to dinner here on Saturday 10/22/22). It wasn't my first time, but if I can find a better place to enjoy Ethiopian food it will be my last. I love the food, it's absolutely delicious. However, if you are not friends with the owners or wait staff the service is med. I've been coming to this restaurant for years. It's really the only place I enjoy Ethiopian food from. I ask for the same order every time and get something different, every time lol. The price changes as well. Even though I ask for the same thing every time I go (and get something different). They don't have a full menu all of the time either. I asked for salad and she said that they where out. The last time I asked for tea, and they where out as well. I personal don't care for goat, but even tho I order beef and chicken sometimes they just bring out goat. When I asked, "is this goat meat? I asked for chicken ". The waitress has said on two occasions that they were out of chicken and gave me goat. I kinda think it would be better to let me know before hand and allow me the options to choice if I want the goat. All of it is delicious and I still enjoy the food but the service is getting extremely bad. The only thing I don't eat is pork, so thank god they don't serve it.. dine at your own risk if you have food allergies.

Aaron M.

Yelp
My wife and I have come here four times so far. It's about 90 minutes from our house in IL but we make sure to stop here every time we are near Indianapolis. While you can find most cuisines in most places, good Ethiopian can be difficult to come by. (I can't imagine why more people don't eat Ethiopian because it is freaking delicious.) And Abyssinia does not disappoint. I cannot comment on any non-vegetarian dishes, but we typically get the vegetarian platter. Gommen and Shiro are very good, but my favorite is still the Yemisir Wot. We also liked their vegetarian soup. I highly recommend coming here, unless you don't want to be totally stuffed to the brim with wonderful Tasty food!

Erika G.

Yelp
Great service great food. The place was clean, and kept up a little dark but I was getting food to go! We ordered the veggie combo plate which Was delicious and very filling!

Nadine F.

Yelp
DISCLAIMER: I'm probably spoiled coming from the DC area, where Ethiopian cuisine abounds. I came to Abyssinia on a weeknight, and the place was mostly empty, as expected. Service was fast and friendly. The food was fine. I tried a meat and veggie combo that had chicken, beef, and lamb. The spicy beef was the clear star of the show. I didn't really want more than one or two bites of the chicken, because it was a bit tough and not nearly as flavorful. The lamb tasted like it might have gone bad, so I didn't eat much of that either. My dining companion did eat quite a bit of the lamb and literally vomited later in the day. The veggies were fine. The more flavorful of the lentils had a fishy taste I wasn't a huge fan of, but they weren't bad. The other was bland. On the plus side, their enjera was great. I would consider trying this place again, but sticking with vegetarian options or beef.

Nicole H.

Yelp
Amazing! I am new to Ethiopian food. I had it once a decade ago and didn't like it. Visited this restaurant last summer once and was astounded. Went again recently this summer, and still amazing. Got the meat variety plate and the vegetarian variety plate, and we loved everything! Masks are required there unless dining, but I prefer to be safe and do take out. The process was pretty easy, and the menu has numbers on it to make ordering over the phone easier.

Drew K.

Yelp
I have never had Ethiopian food before my dining experience at Abyssinia, and I was pleasantly content with how it went. For those unaware (as I was before trying), you do not really eat the Ethiopian dishes with silverware. Instead, you tear off a piece of a thin, sponge-like bread and scoop the various dishes into a bite, then eat it all as one. It was a fun and different way to try out a new culture's cuisine. Because I was so inexperienced we relied on our server for a recommendation on what to get, and they were friendly enough to give us a a variety of tastes. I would suggest doing the same! The food wasn't exactly my favorite, but I would still go back to Abyssinia again in the future.

Jerrold E.

Yelp
Absolutely remarkable Ethiopian food. The #2 combo plate was perfect! Highly recommend adding the cabbage dish. You will not leave hungry!!

Amanda M.

Yelp
I've tried this place twice and just can't enjoy the flavorless food. Service was not bad but food I just couldn't enjoy.

Lisa W.

Yelp
All I have to say is AMAZING. I am always up to try new things, especially food. I am a transitioning Vegetarian and this place was an awesome way to start. I was with a group, so I cannot comment on seating times since our group sprinkled in over a few minutes. Our server was on point. she refilled water glasses very quickly. Never had to ask. Our group shared a vegan platter ( I cant remember the name). The platter was outstanding. I wish I could remember everything on the platter. i will just say, the lentils (which i have never had) and the spinach were by far my favorites. Everything was so good. Oh, I cannot forget to talk about the cabbage sambusa. My granddaughter loved them and I did too. I wish the location was closer to my home, i would eat there every week. Lastly, the warm Baklava...mmmmmm Good! I think i have worked up an appetite....

Lindsay T.

Yelp
A group of 12 came here on a Friday night and the staff was very friendly, welcoming, and attentive to us throughout the evening. If you have any questions, just ask and they love to help you! The restaurant is more spacious than I expected for a strip mall place. You're given a menu and an informational sheet that defines common words from the menu. Point of interest: they have 3 different kinds of imported Ethiopian beer to choose from. We tried a cabbage sambusa and a beef sambusa, which are similar to an Indian somosa (fried dough with a savory filling). Both were great but the cabbage had more flavor. All other dishes came on top of a circular piece of fermented sourdough that you are meant to eat the food with - you can request rice or French bread if you don't like it but it has a very mild flavor! The lamb was not de-boned so beware. I would recommend the "tibbs" - either chicken, beef, lamb, or goat meat fried with peppers and onion in a delicious sauce. The vegetarian sampler platter was a great variety of authentic spreads and the perfect appetizer. The baklava for dessert was the best I have ever had! So perfectly warm and sweet. There was a variety of other customers there, one family who brought their adopted Ethiopian son to eat there for the first time, it was awesome to witness! It seems good for takeout - I noticed quite a few people walk in and get their food for takeout within minutes of arriving.

Vanessa L.

Yelp
Great food and service. Mr. Abraham, the owner, also served us and was even willing to speak with my husband's son, who is Ethiopian and lives in Ethiopia, on FaceTime. Injera, wett, and tibs we're all good and tasty. Mango drinks were great. We were so full from all the good food, we wish we'd tried the coffee, which they have, and Ethiopian beers, which they also have. They also have a small store with Ethiopian items and we were able to get berbere in bulk. Highly recommend.

Taffanee K.

Yelp
Food: One word: "Delicious!" The aroma: as soon as you open the door you are hit with an alluring aroma that increase your hunger ten fold. It is something about the smell of the spices that will surely make you over indulge. Ambiance: cozy, warm and inviting. The service is impeccable. This place is a definite must!

Anastasiya K.

Yelp
I live in Cincinnati, and I traveled all the way to Indianapolis to try their food! It's delicious and very authentic. I love their vegetarian options.

Lisal F.

Yelp
Some things I love: - eating with my hands - spices - being messy - expertly seasoned vegetables - trying new ethnic food This Valentines weekend, Abyssinia provided me and my husband an opportunity to enjoy all these things and more. As it was our first visit, our server took time to explain the menu, recommending the vegetarian Taste of Abyssinia option - a delectable combination of seven different vegetarian dishes, running the gamut from spinach and mustard greens, to potatoes, carrots, and cabbage, to both red and yellow lentils. We chose the "for one" option, and it was PLENTY of food for the two of us. We also tried the lentil and cabbage sambusas - both were fantastic with complex and well-melded flavors. We used a Groupon, so not only was our meal delicious, warm, and flavorful, we got a fantastic deal. Abyssinia - you rock my world (and my tastebuds).

Breanna M.

Yelp
Great food and great service! Family styles restaurant with very flavorful and authentic food! I don't remember the name of what I ordered but it was some kind of lamb meat with lentils on the side. It was very well seasoned and fresh! Would definitely be back again.

Sigrid W.

Yelp
Quite yummy, big portions, reasonable prices, sweet staff, nice décor, easy parking. What more could you want? Other than silver ware maybe... Yes we had a few folks ask for it... I lived dangerously and got my hands dirty, burned them too on some hot dish, dove right in there, lost half my food on the way from plate to mouth, but hey it's the experience that counts. Having no idea what anything is I just ordered one of the combination plates and I likes most everything on there... now I just hope I can remember next time which one was my favorite and order a whole serving of that one, cause it was really delicious. I really wish I could describe things in more detail for you but I would first have to know what it is that I ate, which I don't. Let's just say it was all very flavorful and obviously made with great care. The chef even came out to inquire what we thought about the dishes, which I thought was a nice touch. Oh I did have the beef sambusa (I do know what that is) as an appetizer and it was awesome. Light flaky crust, hot as heck and obviously freshly deep fried, with a savory filing of ground beef with herbs and spices. Highly recommend.

Anne R.

Yelp
Incredible culinary diversion from the restaurant scene in Indy. Assortment platters ideal for first-time or novice Ethiopian foodies. Clean, comfortable restaurant. Prices very reasonable. Friendly staff. We enjoy taking guests here for something different.

Adrienne B.

Yelp
I work near here and have had carry out from here once before but today I went for a lunch meeting and it was really good. We split the vegetarian combo for two and we both enjoyed it. We couldn't eat the whole thing so I guess I will have lunch tomorrow too.

Fallon R.

Yelp
I wish I could rate this 4.5. Our first experience at this restaurant on a Wednesday night. Only one waitress was working so service was a teeny bit slow. Despite being slow, she gave us great guidance on ordering the honey wine and which spice level to choose for food. We loved the food! I will definitely return to eat more of the chicken dish and the yellow lentils. We also really loved the lentil sambusas!

Chrissy A.

Yelp
I came here to eat after seeing it on WTHR as a Yelp review. I came for dinner w a friend. The menu was slightly overwhelming but the staff was super helpful as this was my first try at Ethiopian food. I had the Yemisir Sambusa that was honestly one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted! Then I shared the TA2 which is a vegetarian combo. Every dish was great! The bread that this is served with is great. It is sour and really goes great with every dish. The staff is great at breaking down what every dish is and making sure you are enjoying your meal. This restaurant is a gem on 38th street. I cannot wait to try the lunch buffet!

Janet K.

Yelp
I am loving Abyssinia. I have ordered carry out several times since the pandemic started and each time the quality of food has been great. I was worried how Ethiopian as take out would work since presentation is half the fun of going to an Ethiopian restaurant. But, it's packaged really well! One thing that made them stand out was their willingness to prepare gluten free injera for my mom. I can't vouch for a completely gluten safe preparation, but my mom didn't have any digestive issues leading me to think they were diligent in their preparation. We called a day ahead and there was only a slight up charge. I'm looking forward to returning to indoor dining and I'm sure Abyssinia will be on the list.

Mari G.

Yelp
I love this restaurant. My family and I have been coming here for 7 years now since the day we moved to Indianapolis. We use to live a few blocks away, but now it's like a 25 minute drive from the area we now live in. The drive does not stop us from coming to Abyssinia. Randomly we will call our order in and pick it up. We all normally get the vegetarian combination plate to share. This time around I got the yedoro wett which is a chicken breast stewed in berbere sauce with lemon. It comes with a hard boiled egg and of course injera. I wish there was a way you could add veggies to a meat entrée. My guess is I would just have to pay for a vegetarian combination plate to go with the chicken entrée. Luckily my mom was willing to share her veggies with me and that made my chicken dish even more delicious. I really enjoyed this meal and I will definitely order it again. I also plan to try the Ethiopian coffee. I love coffee so I am sure it will be amazing.

Joyce M.

Yelp
This was our first meal together as a group of people whose goal is making healthy eating choices and moving towards a more plant based diet. We are the Indy Vegetarian Vegan Supper Club sharing our healthy eating journey together and having fun eating out and experiencing new vegetarian and vegan dishes. We chose Abyssinia Ethiopian Restaurant to branch explore a broader cultural eating experience as our inaugural outing. The service was great and the staff very attentive. Our waitress showed us the traditional eating method and answered all of our questions regarding the customary eating style. I loved the clean and friendly environment. Our intention was to have a hot beverage after dinner but we were all too full for anything else. Everything was delicious! I know I will be back.

Carmen V.

Yelp
Go easy on your wallet. Share a plate. If it wasn't for google maps we would have missed this gem on the west side of Indy. Nestled into a stripmall, you wouldn't expect to find an intimate meal, but the setting is dim and romantic--with a few cheesy posters on the wall. My boyfriend and I ordered the yedoro wett with chicken breast. We shared because the dishes are huge. Yedoro wett consisted of a piece of chicken breast, marinated in lemon, sautéed in niter kibeh, stewed in berberre sauce with onion, garlic, and ginger root, served with a hardboiled egg. There were also two sides of lentils. Most dishes are served with a bed of injera--Ethiopian flatbread. The main ingredient is teff flour and it has a slightly spongy texture. It was great for eating with hands. We tore of pieces of rolled injera, grabbed some chicken with plenty of sauce, and plopped it in our mouth. The waitress was very attentive to recognizing when we needed more injera and water. We requested spicy. It wasn't overwhelming for you non-spice lovers. The injera does a good job of balancing the flavorfulness. Our eyes were bigger than our bellies. Before the meal came, we ordered Yemisir sambusa. A fried pastry stuffed with lentils. It was crispy and delicious. Next time we MUST try the Ethiopian coffee.

Yelp
I love trying new food and so far this my 4th time eating here. The food was great and the staff were very friendly. Will be going here again

Yelp
Good food. We got the shared plate. Very tasty and authentic. A bit quiet and empty when we went.

Yelp
Food: 14B - Chicken platter (enough for two people): a large helping of chicken chunks grouped with a scoop of creamed corn, a scoop of steamed vegetable medley, including carrots and greenbeans, and a boiled egg all laid on a bed on injera, a unique spongy bread. I didn't prefer the bread so they brought a generous bowl of soft white rice. The server was exceptional. Drinks: Water After tax/tip, I paid $18.00. I will return to try their lamb and veggies dish that looked and smelled so yummy and to do some shopping in their attached store.

Yelp
This was my first Ethiopian food experience and I liked it. It didn't blow me away, but I would come back. My friend and I split one of the vegetarian combos which had lentils, chickpeas, carrots/green beans, collard greens and cabbage. The lentils and carrots/green beans were my favorite; everything else was pretty bland. We also ordered the "shiro" which is a traditional soupy comfort food made from shiro powder. My friend liked it, but said it wasn't the best he'd had. I had nothing to compare it to, but I did wish it had pieces of tomato and onions in it, rather than just be all puréed. Lastly I had a spicy chicken dish "yedoro wett" - it was served with a hard boiled egg in a pot. This was very good and extremely spicy.
