Académie Hôtel Lyon

The hotel is in a perfect location—you can easily enjoy a relaxing walk through the old town, and just across the river is the lively and bustling Presqu’île district, which is great for a city walk. I especially want to thank the hotel for finding my Chanel wallet, everything inside was still intact, including credit cards and even cash. We had already flown out of France and returned to our home country, thinking the wallet was lost for good, but the hotel not only found it, they also kindly sent it back to us. I am truly grateful and would highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed in an "Apartment" room at the Académie Hotel for two nights in August 2025. The location in Vieux Lyon is excellent, but unfortunately the overall experience fell short of expectations.||- The room was marketed as an apartment, yet it lacked basic amenities such as plates, utensils, and any means to prepare food.||- There was no minibar or mini-fridge. While not always standard in Europe, this stood out given that our nightly rate here was higher than at comparable hotels in London, Paris, Annecy, and Geneva, all of which included this feature.||- The air conditioning was restricted to a minimum of 23°C and could not be adjusted lower, which made the room uncomfortably warm.||- The bathroom light could not be switched off. No configuration of switches in the room resolved this issue, resulting in an awkwardly lit space at night.||- Breakfast was disappointing. It is prepared by the front desk attendant, who was clearly overextended, and the quality reflected that. At €19 per person, the offering felt poor value—for example, the scrambled eggs were cooked in a pot and arrived broken into 100s of uneven fragments.||- Luggage storage was unsecured. Bags were left in the open lobby, which was only intermittently staffed by a single employee.||The property has strong potential given its location and charm, but the number of small but significant shortcomings makes it difficult to justify the price.

Quaint hotel in old lyon town. We had a room upgrade and enjoyed separate bedrooms and showers. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel is in a great location very handy to food, shopping and sights. Highly recommended.

My daughters and I stayed here. We booked a family suite which was 2 bathrooms, a room with a king bed and a second room with 2 twin beds and a small table and chairs. The rooms had a pocket door between them and each room had access to a bathroom. It was a great option for us to feel like we had a little more space. The rooms were clean and had lots of windows, beds were very comfortable. We liked the option for breakfast. They offer a petite (croissant or baguette, coffee and fresh juice) or a full (same as above plus eggs and meat). We did that a couple of days and it was delicious. Great location in old Lyon near the funicular and subway/bus stops. Also surrounded by a lot of food options and walkable to a lot of museums, shops and historic sites. Would definitely book again.

One of my favorite hotel rooms. There are four similar rooms on the front of this hotel, one on each floor. They are wider than they are deep and there are large windows all across the wide front. It appears they can be opened but the weather was cold when we were here so didn’t try. Tremendous natural light from these windows and because of the wide expanse of glass you still feel like you’re in old Lyon even when you’re in your room. . These rooms are large and feature a 13 foot ceiling with huge exposed beams. Bed is great and big towels with a WC separate from sink/shower area. Book one if you can!

We visited Lyon just before Christmas in 2024 and loved staying in the Old Town. We chose L’Académie Hôtel because of its wonderful reviews, location and also because the hotel had an old-world charm. The staff was young but very helpful and knowledgeable. The hotel room had wood beamed ceiling and felt historic. However, we were given the smallest room! The property is multi-storied and the floor plan showed two larger rooms with an extremely small room in between. Our room had no closet, and a toilet room where your knees hit the opposite wall. There was just enough room to walk around the bed, but we had to navigate over luggage because there was no storage area. Overall, the hotel was really great, but I probably would have selected a bigger room (apparently ours was only 129 s.f.), or paid more attention to the size of the room.

We stayed in one of the Lumière suites. It was a lovely as pictured on the website. We especially enjoyed the wall of windows. We were pleasantly surprised that there were two bathrooms, but disappointed that there was no mini fridge. The lift was right next to the room. The hotel is in the old part of Lyon, which is a wonderful neighborhood to wander. We wished we could have stayed longer. Don’t hesitate to book a suite!

We spent two nights there 1-2 November. Located in the old city, it was so convenient to visit different attractions, as well as the river. The hotel was excellent. Our room was very spacious, quiet and comfortable. The staff was knowledgeable, accommodating and anxious to help with any questions or arrangements. The breakfast choices were numerous and exactly what you need for a day of touring Lyon. Overall, excellent!
