I was nervous about our safari to Tanzania, having never done anything remotely like it. It was the trip of a lifetime, and no adjectives can explain how excellent it was.
We found a few companies to research and talking to others who had gone before us. Casey convinced us that A2T was the way to go. We customized our 11-day trip with another couple, and visited Arusha, Tarangire NP, a Massai village, Ngorongoro Crater, Olduvai Gorge, and Serengeti NP. The price was mid-range compared to other companies. I'm completely satisfied and over the moon about how well the trip went!
Our guide, Danny Ezekiel, said he would protect us like babies and he did! But it was so much more than just keeping us safe from animals, and driving carefully through many bumpy roads. Danny provided an exceptional, amazing safari experience for our group. He was funny, kind, happy, and we learned so much about him and Tanzania in general. He even stopped to help another driver with a battery problem on the road to Serengeti NP. He was also a great help when we wanted to buy things from roadside vendors, making sure we paid a fair price.
Danny has 9 years of guide experience, and it shows in so many ways. We had numerous exclusive viewings of animals right outside our land cruiser. He seemed to know intuitively where the animals would be and would go. The guides often stop on the road to talk to each other about what they've spotted that day. One day, two guides said they didn't see anything on the rocks ahead. We drove up anyway, and Danny spotted the mother leopard and cub with his keen eyes almost immediately.
Another time, he spotted a leopard in a tree eating meat. We drove up right along side the tree and spooked it. He managed to figure out where the leopard would go next.
Daily, we thought that it could not get better than the day before, but somehow it did! I mentioned that a friend had traveled in June and saw lion cubs. The next day, we saw lion cubs, and Danny turned to me and said, "you wanted to see lion cubs." I wasn't even requesting it, but he delivered it anyway!! I could go on an on about all the birds and animals we saw up close, including a serval cat, rhinos, hippos, a newborn giraffe, etc., etc. My husband requested to see a cheetah running, and Danny delivered that, too. He's not a miracle worker, but darn close!
I'm a birder, and Danny was able to show me many beautiful and colorful birds and tell me whether they were males, females, or young ones. If he didn't know the specific bird (rarely), he looked it up in his guide and we figured it out.
The camps that we stayed in where all well run and the staffs treated us like royalty. The amounts of food offered to us was more than enough.
I highly recommend Access2Tanzania and that you request Daniel Ezekiel as your guide! You won't be disappointed!
Tips: Bring a cloth mask or scarf to cover your face if you are coming in the dry season. The dust in the Serengeti is everywhere!
