As a local, I'm sad to say this venue has gone down. I have been to over 10 shows in the past 5 years, and this was the worst it's been. Several people well above the age of 21 were being chastised at the beginning of the line for drinking, and given special wristbands that said "We're watching you". None of them seemed drunk. Throughout the night, I had several friends tell me they were put on the same drink watch. Very strange behavior from a bar, but I continued in.
As an adult living in California, I would have never expected to be threatened to be thrown out for simply having a gardening pen in the name of an all ages event. I did however see and smell plenty of people vaping big clouds inside the venue, which I guess they're okay with for children. I have taken my gardening pen several places and simply been told to not smoke inside when they see it. I asked if I could coat check it, and was told no. The security was rude, and people came up to me after the interaction saying the woman who also felt the need to throw away my deodorant was talking about me once I walked away, intensely unprofessional. I never yelled, never called names, didn't insult anyone, just had the audacity to ask why instead of blindly trashing $40. All for...me to go buy another one after the event, as it is perfectly legal here.
Flowstars and other flow toys are banned we found out at the door, but it is not on the website. They cited the catch all "we reserve the right to ban anything day of", but then why host an EDM event at all? I saw sooooo many people after the event I didn't know get their flow toys from the mandatory coat check of flow toys (yes it costs money, wonder why they made that rule). Funny how it's okay to check a flowstar, but not a cartridge. You have the same opportunity to pick up the star early, so that's a weak excuse.
All in all, I would rather pay for a hotel and go all the way to the bay for a show than a place less than a mile from my house because of how I was treated, and that's sad.
