It is now not even close to what it used to be. They used to have a great variety of bourbons and helpful staff. The last two times I have been in here the staff has been more interested in their phone than helping customers. The bourbon selection is a third of what it used to be. I used to love going here but will now go to a retail chain where the people actually help you. This place will go out go business if they do not change.

Not only is the store beautiful in design and layout, but they have an incredible selection, friendly and knowledgeable staff and they don't price gouge! They even have a mini bar set up for samples of some bottles before you purchase. If you drink whiskey, this is the place to go!

Ace is easily one of the coolest liquor stores in Minnesota. They have a gargantuan selection of whisky and spirits, as well as a solid selection of beers. The place has a great atmosphere and feeling of an antique general store. They even have wheeled ladders to reach the top shelf! In addition to their great selection they offer whisky tasting events regularly. I included a couple photos from a Gordon & Macphail tasting they hosted. It may not be the cheapest place in town, but probably the most dapper. Drop in, taste one of their many sample drams, and pick up a bottle of your favorite hooch!

Terrible online shopping experience. Their "3-5 week backorder" completely failed. After 7 weeks, and after they already charged me for the ordrer, they had zero visibility into when or if my order would ever ship. Two different weeks, they promised twice that my order was "on a truck" to them "on Friday." Needless to say, not one of the 8 backordered items every made it to their store. They refunded me and I got nothing.

I'm a rum collector and always searching for online liquor stores that just may have something special I've been looking for, and sure enough, Ace was the place. Before ordering, I contacted customer service, as I've learned it's really the only way to make sure you're going to get what you're expecting. Ben Sciortino responded and then sent me pictures that assured me I was going to get what I was after. Shipping was super fast and I have to say, the bottles were wrapped with such care and perfection, I was literally amazed. Great products, great service, and friendly, cool people. Ace is definitely the place. Thank you!

Well, this was a total waste of time. I placed an online order on September 1st. Order number 64F238ad. I contacted customer service and told them that I needed these bottles by September 22nd for a birthday gift. They told me that one item was out of stock but their email stated "Getting it to you before the 22nd shouldn't be a problem! If something changes I will let you know as soon as possible." That never happened. I emailed the company "customer service" many times. Sometimes the emails were answered, sometimes they were not. I asked Allie (Ace Spirits Customer Service) to sub the out of stock bottle for another one. They said they would do that, but then stated that they had to cancel my original order and place a new order. That wouldn't work since I used a Visa gift card. So now.......... I am out nearly $200 and I have NO BOTTLES to show for it. I have no refund. I just went back to the Ace Spirits website and they have somehow blocked me from even logging in to check my account or placing a new order!!! What type of legitimate company does this?? Whatever you do, AVOID this company. While they do have several 5 star reviews, it is the 1 star reviews that should resonate loudly with an online customer. To say that I am incredibly disappointed in how this company handled this situation would be an understatement. There are far too many online retailers to use to be treated like this. I will update this review if it is warranted, but I'm guessing it won't be.

I recently started getting into Bourbon as a hobby a few years ago and am still a novice. Ace was recommended as an amazing place to find that unique special bottle for your collection. This was an utter disappointment. When asking the employee if they had a bottle of Russells reserve 13 I was basically laughed at and said "yeah we have it, but it's not for sale to you, you have to earn points" then was annoyed setting me up with a rewards account. I get that but wouldn't you want to gain more customers and loyalty, this was my first time here my last.

If you want to shop where your purchases are appreciated this is not the place. Secret limits must be passed to reach secret lists of appreciation. Just being a regular customer is not enough to be treated well or get informative answers to questions. It's all too common with liquor stores these days and it used to not be the case here but things have changed for the worse.

As a fanatical whiskey obsessive, I can say confidently that Ace Spirits has no equal in the state of Minnesota. Consistently getting in rare and sought after bottles, and boasting the widest selection of any store I know, if you are looking for something new and exciting or just to stock up on the staples, Ace will never steer you wrong. The new owner is an avid whiskey nerd himself and regularly gets better private barrel selections than just about any spot in the Twin Cities. The ordering issues people had with the former ownership have stopped since they redid the ordering system. Love this place and can't recommend it enough.

I wish I would have read reviews before using this place. Failed to deliver product I purchased, then refused to answer phone calls and emails until I filed a credit card dispute. "Owner" called me apologized, blamed doordash, and said he would personally see to it that it was handled. He was nice enough about it, although kinda smarmy, I believed him and in good faith released the dispute. A couple of days later I emailed him again, he apologized again, said they had a snowstorm and he couldn't get around, so he would do it the next day. Never happened. Stopped returning emails. So happens, I am a couple thousand miles away in California so I cannot stop by the store (probably a good thing), and this was a Christmas gift for a top client of mine. Embarrassment to say the least. I believe the words 'thief' and 'liar' are appropriate.

We've ordered a couple of time from Ace Spirits in Minnesota. Let's say the results have been mixed. Our first order took five or six weeks to arrive. Our second order took a about three weeks to get part of the order, and the rest of the order was never delivered at all. (This likely was at least partly the fault of UPS, and not necessarily Ace, although Ace chose the shipper and packed the order.) Ace charges your credit card when they get the order but then may wait many weeks to actually ship the order. With each online order, we've had to call Ace and talk to reps in order to get our orders shipped. Unlike other online companies, you can't just order online and expect to get your order in a week or two. On the positive side, Ace Spirits has some of the lowest online prices and doesn't charge tax, although it does charge shipping. We've ordered from three other wine/spirits companies (Astor in New York, Naked Wine and a company in California) and have never had the delivery problems we've had with Ace. However, if price is important to you and you don't care whether it takes a month or two for you to get your shipment, you can order from Ace.

The land of the never ships and they don't get back to you on inquiries. They updated their web site to say shipping can take 2 weeks. I ordered 4 weeks ago. I would recommend a different online retailer of alcohol.

Knowledgeable employees. The whiskey/bourbon selection is unmatched. I can spend a good hour just browsing over their bottles. Prices are a little bit more than say "Total Wine" or "MGM". However, you are also paying for the knowledge and expansive selection. Worth a trip for any whiskey/bourbon fan person.

DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS BUSINESS. Placed an order well over a month ago. They lied about the price. They lied about when it would ship. They lied about how many I could buy. They refuse to communicate. They haven't shipped anything. They haven't refunded my money. Essentially, they stole my money. Don't fall for the "small business" folksy act. This is a terrible business with zero ethics. They will steal from you.

If you are a whiskey fan (like I am), simply walking into this small, strip mall shop is like getting your admission ticket punched to adult Disneyland. I can't believe that I drive by this area all the time and didn't even know it existed. Parking is easy in the private lot out front. Finding the store though is a little challenge. It is way on the end and the storefront is clandestinely darked out. Also since fanatical whiskey drinkers tend to be an odd lot of misfits, watching some of the characters go in and out of the tinted out doorway makes you wonder if they are supporting some type of illicit activity within! Enter, however, and you are immediately rewarded with a quiet, almost brooding interior with floor to ceiling shelves and a rolling wall ladder to access high up products. It reminds me very much of a library. An alcoholic library but a library nonetheless. Impressive is the sheer amount of whiskies they stock. Bourbons, Ryes, Irish, Scotch, Japanese...all are present. Many recognizable labels are there but most impressive are the sheer number of labels that I have never seen before. I think I am pretty schooled in the way of the whiskey and I could have spent hours in there just looking at all of the unfamiliar labels. Now that is a 5 Star afternoon of time spent without regret! I did grab a Rebel Yell Small Batch Reserve for $20 that I've not run into before. Many of their prices are reasonable especially for items that are hard to find. I did find a few that were more pricey than the big box stores but I'm willing to pay a bit more for the massive variety and painstakingly specialized collection that is found here. After only 1 visit, I'm a believer. For sure one of the best and most focused liquor stores around!

Simply incredible selection of bourbons and ryes. If you are in proximity of the twin cities this is the place to go. I finally stopped in today after months of driving by on the way to my local VFW and I'm glad I did. Is their selection amazing? Absolutely! Even better is the owner's knowledge of bourbon. He will gladly teach you and steer you in the right direction of some of his favorites based on what you like. He doesn't push you to the most expensive bottle. Instead he says "this is a really good deal, give it a try next tine." He also has bottles open if you would like to sample before you purchase. They also have a very smart beer and wine selection. From now on this will be my only stop. I'm just glad I didn't waste a few more months before stopping in.

Good experience shopping online here during the pandemic. Note that a big banner at the top of the website displays the current order processing time. My orders have all taken a while to fulfill, but always within the stated time on the website. I like that Ace packages my shipments carefully. For the bottles I ordered that came with their own individual retail presentation boxes, they packed those carefully, separate from the bottles (and folded flat if they were cardboard) in their own sealed bag inside the shipment. This is really important especially if you're planning on gifting any of these bottles, and it shows care and an attention to detail. They have low prices even on some rarer and/or harder-to-find stuff, but this also means a lot of stuff is out-of-stock. Speaking of, I do wish their website was a little better organized and had filters or sort functions to weed out the out-of-stock items.

Wanting to "Patronize Local" I went into Ace Spirits on Shady Oak for the last time today. Too bad, it's so close, I could walk from my home. I walked in. Noticed no mask on this silver-haired man behind the counter. (Mind you, all the patrons inside were wearing masks). Then this man (pushing at least 90 years of age...I imagine the owner's grandfather?...asked what I was looking for. I replied "No Mask?"....and then he began to laugh in my face. So off I drove to COSTCO St. Louis park to buy my a 1.75 liter of Patron Silver....at better size and a much better price for our 4th of July weekend. No need for anyone to bother shopping local when the shop tender, of such a fragile age during COVID, could not care the least for safety of others. #weapparentlyarenotinthistogether #casefornotshoppinglocal

Do they have alcohol? Sure. Have you ever had issues with being profiled or don't look your age? Avoid this place. Felt great getting mean-mugged on my walk into this place, and then stared at like I was doing something wrong while making my selection. The fact that the guy checked my ID for about 10 seconds and then asked for it again a second time after it was already put away when he returned it to me, was a nice touch. Make a different spot your regular pickup stop.

YOU HAVE TO CHECK THIS PLACE OUT. It's in a strip mall type thing where it has super cool graffiti/ art on the fence line leading you in. It may be easily missed on shady oak but when you go inside it is floor to ceiling spirits. Their wine selection is small but they have good options and prices to get you what you need. Where they kill it is their selection of brown liquors. It's incredible. They carry Cascade Blonde whiskey which is hard to find! They have many spirits and I would check them out before going anywhere else.

I had an order that was never delivered to me by UPS because UPS damaged the product. I had paid for insurance with "route" but they denied by claim with no explanation. I tried to contact Ace Spirits twice again by email with no response. I tried calling Ace Spirits' phone number but it goes directly to an automatic response, with no way to leave a message. I filed a complaint with my credit card company, and this time Ace Spirits finally responded to the CC co. with the false claim that "all I had to do was file a claim with Route and they would refund my money" - which I had already attempted to do. Ace Spirits claimed they "would help me with this process", but they had not responded to my email, and their phone number doesn't work. A company to avoid, unless you want to run the risk of losing your order, even when you've paid for insurance!

Looks like I'm not the only one who encountered this fraudulent business. I placed an an order on Oct 24 with multiple emails including a promise to deliver. They withdrew over $100 from my Credit Card. I got an email later stating that they are going to hold my funds and order hostage unless I pay an additional $70 because they can't honor the advertised price. Just like the other comment - this is an unprofessional, unethical and fraudulent business. Take your money elsewhere and support better businesses!!

I live on the west coast, but I needed to get 4 bottles of something delicious and not very easy to find to my mom's house (which is also not in MN, but is in the midwest) for Christmas. One phone call with a helpful Ace employee and a quick online order later, and Christmas was saved! They didn't have it on hand, but could get it in time. Thanks Ace! Call them, maybe they can work a miracle for you too.

Love the selection, cozy atmosphere and they have some fun classes (which includes tasting). It really is the perfect place to come and browse for bourbon and whiskey ------ just ignore the Japanese whisky selection....

Recieved 2 bottles of the House of Stark Scotch Whiskey from the HBO T.V. series Game of Thrones. This was my first time making an online order for Alcohol and I was a little sceptical and hesitant about doing it, but I had no other choice since my local Liquor store sold out them and they were not sure if they would receive anymore. I was beyond thrilled on how fast they shipped the bottles and how well they were packed. I will now and forever us ACE Spirits as my online choice for Liquor and Wine. Please search for it with my name, confirm you can get me the products I ordered or, if you cannot, please reverse the credit card charge. I know you are seeing a high volume - good for you. I placed an order on 4/9 (one bottle.) at the time their website had said, that shipping would take 5-10 days due to coronavirus, understandable. After waiting two weeks with still no status update, I shot them an email. No response. I decide to wait one more week. Yesterday I called them for about 30 minutes at 4 different hours and NO ANSWER! This company is absolutely horrible! they just ghost you and straight up lie about their shipping policies. They took my money on 4/10 (so they're definitely operating) and still no sign of my order and now answer from their so called "customer service". I will be opening up a paypal dispute, i've never had such a hard time purchasing liqour online. Buyer Beware, as of today I will be opening a dispute. Take your money elsewhere folks, no point in browsing their collection cause it will never get to you. I came to yelp to see if anyone else was experiencing similar issues and clearly, I'm not the only one who has experienced this. I hope this place gets brougdown to 0.5 Stars average so that everyone can be aware of their horrible business practices. Update:05/15/2020 and still no response, currently ongoing paypal dispute and still no response from them there either.

The operators/owners of this place are thieves. That's what I call merchants who charge customers for website orders, but, who don't ship product and don't respond to customer inquiries. That's flat-out theft and fraud. I ordered liquor from this store. My card was charged, but, my goods weren't received, nor did the store respond to my inquiries. The store operators obviously enjoy ripping off their Internet customers. I had to call my credit card company to have the charge removed. What a total disappointment and a massive waste of my time. Avoid this store like the plague -- buy from reputable merchants.

Found this retailer online and ordered a case of my favorite beverage. Case was shipped and received in a timely manner. Upon opening the case there was some damage. I had insured the order through Route.com and they took care of the damage with no arguements when I sent photos of the damage. This has been an excellent experience and highly recommend Ace to anyone looking for online Beverage sales.

It is probably a good thing that I live four states away from Ace Spirits because I would otherwise spend WAY too much time in their shop. They are absolutely fantastic and definitely my go-to for hard-to-find spirits. Inventory is excellent, shipping is fast, and their customer service is spectacular. I found them whilst searching for a specific Russian vodka that I hadn't been able to find in years...and they ended up with a dedicated customer.

They list items as being in-stock that are not in-stock. After receiving no notice of item shipping I contacted them to be told it wasn't in-stock and they had no exact date of when it would come in. This was to be a very expensive present and they let me down.

Placed an order April 19th during the COVID pandemic. I knew that places were swamped with online orders so I remained patient. A whole month passed. May 20th, I started started trying to call the company (could never get through) and started emailing them. Two weeks of daily calls and emails. Finally I sent an email stating that if I didn't hear back the next day, I was filing a claim with my credit card. I got a response the same day. The guy apologized and said that my order was hung up by something that was on back order. He stated he'd ship the rest of the order and when the last thing arrived, that would be shipped. Next day, the website showed my entire order shipped. Awesome, guess the last thing restocked. Ten days later, order arrives missing the one item. Have been trying to contact since and again, no response. I'll never order from them again.

You can't give zero stars or I would. I ordered a $250 bottle to be sent to a friend, who has not received it. I call for customer service... they market on the web so you would think they had some sort of customer service line, but they don't. It's 3:50pm in Cal for since it is almost 6pm in MN, "sorry, you will have to call back Monday." If you are going to sell on the web, act like a web business! Horrible... I won't be back.

Thrilled to have found what I wanted for my son's birthday and ordered it a week before his birthday as a surprise. I live in Florida and this store was but a few miles from his home. Confirmed order and paid extra to deliver. Their feeble attempt was on the day he flew to Europe and he had to make last minute arrangements. They should and could have handled it better. Never will use them again.

I placed an order on the recommendation from a friend during the coronavirus as our local stores were closed. Going in, I knew my order would take a while so the fact that the two week lead time turned to four didn't bother me very much. There was a distinct lack of communication regarding any further delays; however, and when I looked at the site to get an update they had removed all notation of being behind and said orders ship within 2-3 days. After I emailed to inquire on the delay, my order shipped very quickly after that. Sadly, it came with one bottle completely missing and the receipt simply had a line through it. But there was no communication that I wasn't going to receive a bottle, the bottle was not back ordered on the website, and the like. An email to customer service went unanswered but I did finally get someone on the phone who refunded my card within a few business days. My other option was to get another bottle sent where they said I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE for additional shipping the bottle they forgot to ship in the first place. Apart from the timely refund to the credit card, this was very poor service all around.

The prices aren't amazing compared to the big box stores, but damned if it's not the best *looking* liquor store I've ever set foot in. For the shop's footprint, the selection is nothing short of astounding. I also appreciate it when a place that obviously knows quality liquor doesn't neglect to properly curate their bottom shelf. As something of a connoisseur of discount whiskeys, I've got to say, they seem to stock the best possible choices of booze across all price-points.

Update: Ace Spirits finally reached out to let me know my order was delayed due to one of the items not being available. I was able to substitute a different item, paying the difference and received my order yesterday, in time to give the items as Christmas gifts.

Terrible company. On April 15, 2020 I ordered a $250 bottle of scotch as a gift to my friend who had lost a loved one to make him feel a little better. I have emailed Ace several times to get a shipping confirmation from them but only received 1 response from Chad Moe on May 1st stating that the bottle should have been shipped the next day but still have not received confirmation from them if the item has been shipped. Today is May 4th, 19 days after they charged my credit card and still have not received confirmation that the item has been shipped. I feel horrible telling my friend that his gift should arrive any day.

Buyer beware if you are requesting that they ship. I placed a $200+ order on 4/4 with the understanding that they have Coronavirus related delays and that shipping was taking a total of 15 days (10 days to process and 5 days for shipping). I was prepared to be patient. But after 15 days when there still wasn't any shipping info on my order, I grew concerned. By April 22 I had emailed Ace Spirits (Water from Wine LLC) twice and attempted to call several times (outbound message only, can't leave VM, tells you to "try again") with no responses. I disputed the payment and "Chad Moe" from Ace Spirits emailed me telling me they were waiting on 1 item, arriving the next day 4/23, did I still wish to cancel. I told him via email I'd prefer to receive my order and would cancel my dispute once I'd received shipping/tracking information. No response. I tried to call again (no luck) and then emailed Chad Moe on 4/28 asking for a status update. No response. So today I sent notification that my dispute stands and requested a refund from my payment source. Don't bother with this place, find a way to find what you need locally. It's not worth the wait or the hassle.

I had a Groupon for $16 bucks here and my buddy said they had Evil Twins Molotov Cocktail beer here, $14 a 4 pack. Yikes! But this was some solid beer! This place has a ton of whiskeys lining the wall from Minnesota. They have a pretty awesome beer fridge as well, all good stuff. The staff was also super fantastic.

Placed an order 4 weeks ago. Nothing has shipped. They don't answer their phone or emails. My card was charged and I will be reporting this to my credit card company. Pro tip to the owners: don't take more orders than you can handle.

This review deserves no stars!! I've called; no answer! I've messages from the website; no response! I spent over 300 dollars to have an order sent to PA weeks ago!! I have yet to receive anything, not even a tracking number. They sure did charge my credit card the next day. This will be reported to the BBB and my credit card company. It's bad enough we are dealing with the tough worldwide situation but not to add people like the ones running this so called business. Terrible!

So good I flew to Minnesota to visit them! I like whiskey...A LOT, and Ace Spirits is one of the best online merchants I have found for it. They are knowledgeable and have a broad selection, including harder to find bottles. Their descriptions and recommendations are spot on, and have led me to try several newer brands that have emerged. After ordering from them online for quite awhile I had the opportunity to visit their retail store while I was in Minneapolis for a football game, and it was like a whiskey wonderland. The staff was helpful and suggested a fantastically weird and delicious bottle of brandy aged in whiskey barrels! They are my first stop online when I am looking to discover something new or just restock! Keep up the great work.
