Aces Foodcraft - Review - Fitzrovia - London - The Infatuation

"Aces Foodcraft is a Japanese British spot in Fitzrovia with a swanky chef's counter, Kagoshima wagyu on the menu, and lunchtime specials." - Sinéad Cranna

We had an exceptional meal with Alex and the team at Aces. We tried the tasting menu and each item was unique, vibrant, beautiful and most importantly delicious! The restaurant is charming and has a really cool vibe to it. All of the staff were super friendly and attentive, creating an excellent atmosphere. It was great to speak to Chef Alex and his wife about where some of the ingredients were supplied from. We’d highly recommend Aces Food Craft to anyone wanting to try out one of London’s best new restaurants!

A stunning new restaurant hidden away in Fitzrovia. A beautiful open kitchen where you get watch the bigger than expected kitchen staff prepare the dishes and Alex the owner and head chef overseeing and putting the finishing touches. His wife Aleksandra runs the front of house staff while also being in charge of sourcing the ingredients. We also got to meet their lovely son who was playing on his iPad after school, he even had a little play area hidden away - a true family run restaurant! The food was unbelievable. Japanese centred but with a twist. We licked our plate’s clean to make sure we got every last taste. Portions are definitely on the small side so be prepared. When they said the staters were one portion they mean it - but the one prawn dumpling with green mussel shot for £8 was worth it. The chicken liver parfait creamy with a light Parmesan foam to cut through. The Tuna tartare beautiful. The main of ox cheek should probably be called cabbage with a side of ox cheek but such depth of flavour - the gravy which was so rich added such dimension. Dessert had some classic savoury notes with sour cream but perfectly balanced this with a salted caramel flavour We were lucky enough to come on a soft launch discount so price was very good. If I was paying full price I think the price is a bit steep for me, but the quality is unquestionable. I am hoping their set menu / tasting menu price is competitive as would love to come back.

Food was delicious, very precise, fun and punchy cooking. Atmosphere was cosy and energetic. Really liked the dry age cabinet on the wall showcasing ingredients. Standout dishes were the prawn dumpling, quail main and apple dessert. Romanian Chardonnay was also a surprise! Portions are definitely on the small side but to be expected. Overall it was excellent.

I was in the hood and visited spontaneously on a Thursday. Despite being a solo diner arriving after 9:30pm I was warmly welcomed at Aces and even offered the full tasting menu. I loved the decor which felt very cosy, with the open kitchen taking up a big chunk of the overall space, giving most tables a decent view and not just the prime counter seats. I didn’t take up the tasting menu offer and went à la carte instead, ordering the chicken liver parfait, prawn dumpling and the halibut, followed by the only dessert option - the “Fuji apple”. The food was mostly excellent. The parfait and accompanying brioche were very moreish. The dumpling was nice and crispy, I’m not sure about the accompanying mussel sauce but they get credit for the creative presentation. My main course halibut was served with a delicious pair of sauces and also came with a side of “pasta” which was actually made from pumpkin. Dessert was also better than the menu description, coming with a toffee creme and easily satisfying my sweet tooth. Service was exceptionally friendly and I felt very well taken care of throughout my meal. I loved that Alex Craciun (head chef) personally came out to my table to deliver and explain each of the dishes. I hope this brand new opening can maintain this level of personalised service over time if/when things get busier. The bill for my meal came to £129 of which £37 was spent on drinks. Overall a great meal! The setup of the venue was somewhat unique, I liked the vibe and they delivered on both food and service. One to return to for sure.

A fantastic experience all round. The food was creative and delicious . We sat at the ‘chefs table’/counter seating and loved being able to watch the team in the kitchen. Aleksandra, Alexei and Chef Alex made us feel so welcome. Highly recommend, we’ll be back again and again!

Intimate space with great ambience. The open kitchen is prominent, and seating by the counter is recommended. Food was great, two dishes that stood out for me : the chicken liver parfait and the halibut. 10/10! Friendly service. Would visit again for sure

Incredible experience, food was delicious and approachable, even though it was elevated and exciting. The decor is lovely, perfect as a date spot, or to go with clients. Chef Alex has really knocked it out the park, and seeing him cook in front of the restaurant is an experience that shouldn't be missed. Run don't walk.
