I was in the hood and visited spontaneously on a Thursday. Despite being a solo diner arriving after 9:30pm I was warmly welcomed at Aces and even offered the full tasting menu. I loved the decor which felt very cosy, with the open kitchen taking up a big chunk of the overall space, giving most tables a decent view and not just the prime counter seats.
I didn’t take up the tasting menu offer and went à la carte instead, ordering the chicken liver parfait, prawn dumpling and the halibut, followed by the only dessert option - the “Fuji apple”. The food was mostly excellent. The parfait and accompanying brioche were very moreish. The dumpling was nice and crispy, I’m not sure about the accompanying mussel sauce but they get credit for the creative presentation. My main course halibut was served with a delicious pair of sauces and also came with a side of “pasta” which was actually made from pumpkin. Dessert was also better than the menu description, coming with a toffee creme and easily satisfying my sweet tooth.
Service was exceptionally friendly and I felt very well taken care of throughout my meal. I loved that Alex Craciun (head chef) personally came out to my table to deliver and explain each of the dishes. I hope this brand new opening can maintain this level of personalised service over time if/when things get busier. The bill for my meal came to £129 of which £37 was spent on drinks. Overall a great meal! The setup of the venue was somewhat unique, I liked the vibe and they delivered on both food and service. One to return to for sure.
