The 38 Best Restaurants in Barcelona

"From restaurateurs Majid and Mani Alam along with Bilal Khan, Achaar Bar is part of the growing roster of restaurants under the Alam Brothers umbrella. Their latest is an Indian canteen and natural wine bar named for the ubiquitous South Asian pickled vegetable condiment (which they make in-house). The menu spans the breadth of India, as well as adding in some Pakistani favorites like the Lahori samosa, a nod to the Alam brothers’ Punjabi roots. The 150 natural wines on offer have been curated by sommelier Irene Cavall to pair excellently with the bold seasoning, heat, and aromas of dishes like tandoor-roasted lamb chops, spicy coconut prawns, Madrasi vegetables, and Goan fish curry. This kitchen cranking out aloo paratha and palak pakoras has breathed new life to a space that was once an old warehouse, embracing the stripped-down post-industrial aesthetic that is omnipresent in Poblenou, a district akin to the Brooklyn of Barcelona. Order as much as you can; the menu isn’t huge, so with a handful of friends you might be able to try it all, and you’ll be happy you did." - Sam Zucker

The most authentic tasting Indian food I’ve had in Barcelona so far (Source: Me - Indian person living in Barcelona). Not only is it just authentic , it is delicious. Also unlike most restaurants that take obscure sounding names for their restaurants, they actually serve their namesake Achaar. It’s a good achaar as well. We had the malai kofta, spicy prawn curry, with a healthy amount of garlic and garlic cheese naan. We also had fried okras and pani puri for starters and a delicious kulfi for desert. The service was very good and we felt very welcome with the friendly and prompt service. Will come back soon. Can’t wait

Achaar Bar: Natural Wine, Unnatural Pleasure Achaar Bar arrives wearing the current Barcelona uniform—casual defiance, curated roughness, the promise of something “edgy” and unfiltered. Unfortunately, what’s unfiltered here isn’t authenticity; it’s discomfort. The room feels cramped and awkward in a way that doesn’t read as intimate, just inconvenient—like the layout was designed to signal coolness rather than host a meal. The food aims for punchy, spice-forward satisfaction, but lands in a register that feels oddly generic: competent enough to fill you up, not nuanced enough to hold your attention. Flavors hit hard, then flatten, the kind of cooking that confuses intensity with character. The real letdown is the drinks. The natural-wine selection feels less curated than declared—bottles chosen for their attitude, not their pleasure. The results can be aggressively funky, more endurance test than pairing, and the whole program reads as a provocation that forgot to be enjoyable. In the end, Achaar Bar feels like posture in place of hospitality—a big disappointment dressed as a scene. Clean: 5/10 Comfort: 5/10 Food: 6/10 Wine: 5/10 Service: 7/10 The Experience: 5/10 Price: 45€/pax

Overall, the food was good and the lamb was absolutely delicious—definitely the highlight of the meal. The naan was just okay, and the chicken tikka masala wasn’t as creamy as expected—maybe just their style. Portions were on the smaller side, but the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, especially since I came without a reservation. Great service!

The Kheema Pav here reminds you of what you get in Mumbai. Best thing on the menu. The pakoras were good as well. We had to ask for chat masala to go with it and the taste just multiplied. Rest of the veg fare was okayish.

Absolutely incredible experience! The food was bursting with flavor, the wine was perfectly paired, and the highlight of the evening was the outstanding service from Artem. He was attentive, warm, and went above and beyond to make our night special. Couldn’t have asked for anything more — thank you, Artem ☺️

Excellent selection of natural wines and good service (by the girl) when it comes to selecting the wine for your taste. Atmosphere on point thanks to the well designed indirect lighting. Really enjoyed the wines, though food is missing one star. Tikka masala had lots of tendons and we ordered extra spicy (mentioning not Spanish spicy, but extra spicy) and the dishes were still on a level of black pepper. Which though complimented the wine, have to admit, but was not meeting the expectations. Service by the food guy was a bit too odd and pushy (I’m surprised I mention this in Barcelona where it’s hard to even get noticed) and assumptions were made too quickly to kill the mood: when we wanted more wine we were asked “You want the bill?” and when we actually wanted the bill, he came to charge without giving us the bill to check first, etc weird nuances. Little things to improve, but will definitely visit again this interesting gem in town.

The food is amazing. Nevertheless, I wanted to try their wines but there was no menu available. The staff told me what I would like in a wine and they would recommend something. I could not be bothered to such process without prices visibility.
