We chose Aciugheta after spotting it in our Rick Steves Venice pocket guide and stopped in for an early lunch between sightseeing—after touring the Doge’s Palace and before heading to St. Mark’s Basilica. Despite not having a reservation, we were seated promptly inside, which we appreciated on a hot July day.
We ordered two pizzas, wine for the adults, soda for our child, and water for the table. The food was well prepared and genuinely enjoyable, and we decided to linger a bit longer for dessert and coffee. Service was attentive and polite throughout. Our server was initially reserved but soon warmed up, joking with us, and especially our son, like we were old friends.
We were surprised afterward to see some of the negative reviews online, as our experience was entirely positive. Prices felt fair for the quality and location, and while business was picking up as we were leaving, we never felt rushed—despite being mindful of our tour schedule. We still made it to our next stop comfortably on time.
While we sat in front near the entrance, a group of locals dined in the back, which feels like a reassuring sign. The atmosphere was relaxed and pleasant, and we would happily return.
