The Best Hotel Spas in Rome

"Nestled in the heart of the Roman Ghetto just a few steps from the famous Fontana delle Tartarughe (Fountain of the Turtles), the AcquaMadre Hammam is a timeless refuge, where the scent of incense and gently flowing water transport you to a world of stillness. The journey begins in the apodyterium, where daily worries are set aside to prepare you to deeply tune into yourself. It continues in the calidarium, a warm and humid environment that dilates the blood vessels, improves circulation, and promotes detoxification." - The MICHELIN Guide

The places is small, nice quiet, relaxing. It was nice that it wasn’t crowded. However, the actual scrub I found was inefficient being only less than 10 minutes. I went to other Haman‘s in Spain and other countries and I had thorough hour of soapy scrub with nice warm water followed by another massage , followed by Hot stone. I think for the money they definitely need to work on giving better scrub experience.. The tea afterwards was also very relaxing, so the whole experience was enjoyable, but I think they can improve attendant’s service.

Impersonal rude service. Stay away. I was given a coupon as a present for my birthday. I made a reservation for 4 P.M. on a weekday. In the morning of the reservation day, I woke-up with a flu. When I tried immediately to contact the reception I discovered that they answer only in the afternoon. I immediately wrote an e-mail to explain the situation asking for a rescheduling. Only in the early afternoon 3.30 PM I received this impersonal response "Hello, just to remind you that in case of cancellation or change of reservation the customer is required to inform the reception within 24 hours of the expected date of arrival, failure to notify will result in the loss of the voucher. Regards" This is not acceptable service, in my view, and, above all, is totally impersonal. If you expect to be treated as a number or anonymous client go ahead with them. Otherwise stay away from this place...

After walking Rome my feet and back were sore. This looked like an upscale bathhouse where I could get a massage. The lady at the front desk was a little rude and didn’t really seem to want my business. They charge for everything! I bought a massage and they wanted double to let me go to the baths, plus buy a swimsuit, plus sandals, plus something else (I cannot remember). I decided on the massage only. I asked for a deep tissue to help with the soreness. The massage therapist just rubbed me briskly like applying a salt scrub with no salt. I got up still sore and 100 euro lesser. The after tea was nice and when leaving the front desk lady made me go back and get her the locker key and towel in the locker room. This is definitely not a classy place!

Beautiful space, great services, well thinked and organized hammam and scrub path. Excellent massage! I had the one for back pain and a strong massage with large and precise movements. The staff was welcoming and very professional. Thank you!

This hammam is stunning inside with really helpful staff. They have a great selection of treatments and massages but book early as they go quite fast. I gave it 3 stars as I've been to quite a few hammams in Turkey and in London and they are more efficient and do more for you in the standard 'hammam'. We had to wash ourselves (whether this is for covid reasons, I don't know) They also charge for slippers and body scrub glove which I found odd. Every other hammam I've been to has just supplied them. Overall it was pleasant and came away feeling relaxed but it is a bit pricey for what you get.

Not a typical hammam and lacked a lot of amenities for the price. The hammam part was just ok. The massage section - the beds were uncomfortable and need updating. The massage was a 2/10. I would never go back.

This review has two parts -positive and negative. I’ll start with the negative because it’s the outcome of my experience. My partner and I booked a hammam session for 6:00pm on a Friday afternoon wanting to relax after a long day walking around the city. But this hammam seemed to have mostly local women in it, which from my understanding it’s the place where they catch up and gossip. They were extremely loud I felt like I was in a bar, the shape of the ceiling made the noise even louder and the voices eco. (Now I know why other reviewers said they left more stressed after the hammam.) We asked them if they could be quieter and they just looked at us and kept on talking, we added a couple of shhh after but again only ignored us and talked louder. After I asked the staff if they could ask them to be quiet, as it’s supposed to be a RELAXING SPACE?! They said they have but… I doubt it as obviously locals keep them in business. After the shower we went into the tea room only to find them there and they made fun of us and laughed and started to make shhhh sounds. I’m not sure what was so funny to them, seemed that they were happy to ruin our experience. I am 34 years old and I haven’t seen this behavior since I was in high school. You can say that all this has to do with the costumers and not the business but I felt like no one really took action to what was happening besides apologize to us. Extremely disappointing experience and very unfair especially after paying €180. Very overpriced. Now for the positive -This hammam is an amazing space, beautiful clean and all the staff were lovely. I wish I could say more positive about my experience but I wasn’t lucky enough. I would recommend this hammam on a morning or a quiet time as I’m sure you can have a great experience, just ask when there’s no local ladies 😅.

Exactly what we needed! So relaxing and rejuvenating. After several exhausting weeks leading up to our wedding, my husband and I needed this badly. We just had the regular hammam with no additional treatments. We were there for about 2-3 hours. The hammam is very clean and the facilities are modern despite the traditional decor. Not touristy at all and seemed like we were the only non locals there. We went on a Thursday morning so it was nice and quiet. Highly recommended if you're looking for something relaxing and different to do in Rome!!
