23 Best Hotels in Florence

"Ad Astra feels like a little-known Florentine secret: a gorgeous private apartment on the first floor of an aristocratic urban villa just 10 minutes from the Ponte Vecchio. Expect lavish flourishes and 21st-century design. Individually decorated rooms feature classic elements with contemporary touches: original molding with rich accent colors, Italian furniture (midcentury to the '70s), artisanal lighting and woodwork, and framed art hand picked by the owners (from Pucci scarves to original prints). A breakfast buffet includes local products; enjoy it in the luminous salon or out on the terrace, which offers views of the delightful Torrigiani gardens. The lounge has complimentary coffee and tea throughout the day; there's also an honesty bar with wines and spirits. This oasis in the middle of Florence is a worthy stay, especially in the hotter months when hordes of tourists clutter the streets." - Nicky Swallow, Erica Firpo

Ad Astra

"What's your initial impression of Ad Astra? Ad Astra feels like a little-known Florentine secret: a gorgeous private apartment housed on the upper floors of the city residence of the aristocratic Marchesi Torrigiani just 10 minutes from the Ponte Vecchio. Expect lavish flourishes and 21st-century design. Nice. Who's here? Wannabe aristocrats, star-crossed lovers, and newlyweds. How's the whole arrival process? Check-in is easy and thorough. Staff isn't on hand 24 hours, but you're given an emergency phone number for when they're not there. Helpful. But we're really here for the bed—how are the rooms? Individually decorated rooms feature classic elements with contemporary touches: original molding with rich accent colors, Italian furniture (midcentury to the ’70s), artisanal lighting and woodwork, and framed art hand-picked by the owners (from Pucci scarves to original prints). Any other details that make your stay that much more comfortable? Rooms are stocked with an espresso machine, DVD player, HDTV, and C.O. Bigelow bath products; some rooms have freestanding tubs; several of the rooms have direct access onto the wraparound terrace while two romantic suites are housed in a little cottage in the garden. There's excellent Wi-Fi. What about the food options—anything good on-site? A delightful breakfast buffet includes local charcuterie, cheeses, jams, and pastries; enjoy it in the luminous salon or out on the terrace, which overlooks the lovely Torrigiani gardens. The salon has complimentary coffee and tea throughout the day; there's also an honesty bar with wines and spirits. What else should we know before booking a stay here? There's limited parking (extra cost), and the hotel stands in the Giardino Torrigiani, the largest privately-owned garden in central Florence. Sounds lovely. So why would you recommend the Ad Astra? This oasis in the middle of Florence is a worthy stay, especially in the hotter months when hordes of tourists clutter the streets." - Erica Firpo

This boutique hotel is a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of Florence. The rooms are spacious, uniquely decorated, and overlook the beautiful private garden — a rare and peaceful retreat in such a vibrant city. The attention to detail in both the interior design and the service is exceptional. Me and my wife recently stayed at Ad Astra in Florence and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The location is perfect, right in the middle of everything, making it easy to explore all the beautiful sights the city has to offer. The rooms are not only beautiful but also impeccably clean, providing a comfortable and relaxing environment. One of the highlights of my stay was the breathtaking view from my room, which added an extra touch of magic to my trip. The staff were amazing and incredibly friendly, always ready to assist with a smile. Their hospitality truly made me feel at home. Additionally, the continental breakfast was fantastic, with a great variety of options that could be enjoyed both indoors and outdoors. It was the perfect way to start each day. I strongly recommend Ad Astra to anyone visiting Florence. I look forward to coming back and enjoying another fantastic stay!

Gorgeous hotel located in a private garden - rooms are beautiful and eclectic, lovely service. No onsite restaurant but close to several good ones, and great breakfast served on a terrace overlooking the park. Only limited use of the park is allowed, need to reserve a guide to walk through but still great to be located in the park in a city like Florence. Would absolutely stay again.

A beautiful hotel, not far from the center of Florence. We stayed in Room 22 and really enjoyed our time there. Good service, breakfast was sufficient, the room was beautiful, spotlessly clean — everything was fine. However, when booking the hotel, the garden is presented as if guests have access to it and as if it’s part of the stay. Only shortly before arrival — once cancellation is no longer possible — you receive a message in the fine print saying that the garden is completely off-limits and closed to guests. This is clearly done to make it seem like the garden is included, when in fact it’s not. We booked the hotel because of the garden as a shooting location. That’s a bit sad While staying at the hotel, everything is under video surveillance, and it’s closely monitored who tries to enter the garden and who doesn’t. An absolute no-go. But we had a good stay ☺️

It's the second time I've stayed at AdAstra. Nothing is too much, very helpful and knowledgeable staff, the hotel is immaculate and the breakfast is very good to start you off on a day of discovery. It's well positioned for the Pitti Palace and Ponte Vechio. The Borgo S. Frediano street is full of bars and restaurants and is 10 mins walk from the hotel. We averaged 16000 steps over 4 days. Bring comfy shoes!||At the end of our visit the AdAstra organised a guided tour around the hotel gardens. We were met by Luca Torrigiani who is one of the owners of the Torrigiani gardens and villa containing the hotel.|What a pleasure to be escorted round gardens originally granted to the family by the Medici and has fortifications designed by Michaelangelo.||I would definitely recommend this tour and it can be organised by the hotel staff.||Thank you so much AdAstra for making my visit to Florence so memorable.

Google
The best place to stay in Florence! The location is perfect, a little bit away from the hustle and bustle on the other side of the river, but the rooms are all so unique, spacious and charming. Plus the private garden is so beautiful! It feels so luxurious and private! Highly recommend!

Delightful and comfortable Bed and Breakfast in quiet part of the city. Still easy to get to all the key places. |Very stylish accommodation in historic building with lovely terrace overlooking gardens. Quirky modern mixed successfully with ancient building. Big roll top tubs in bedrooms along with modern clean efficient bathrooms. Good breakfast, helpful pleasant staff. We were upgraded to large room with French doors onto terrace with garden views. We look forward to next visit.

I was recommending Ad Astra to friends when I realized that I never shared a review or a thank you for our remarkable stay -- this hotel remains at the top of my list of all time favorite hotel experiences and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Be sure to book a tour of the garden, and try for a balcony room so you can enjoy a cocktail as the moon rises and the stars blink on. With the observation tower right there it felt as though we were immersed in Galileo's Italy. Glorious.

Yelp
WOW!!!!! My boyfriend and I had such an amazing experience here. Everything about this B&B was 10/10. The hospitality from everyone here was on point. The art they have installed on the walls is beautiful and the decor blew me away We bought a bottle of wine and laid out on the terrace and watched the sun go down. *cliche, i know* This is the type of place to splurge and really relax and enjoy yourself. If I lived in Florence, this is the place I would staycation at. The only thing I am slightly bummed out on was the beautiful garden you aren't allowed to tour. I was so interested in seeing the castle on the grounds and the beautiful garden.

Yelp
We loved this hotel so much we extended our stay in Florence by a day. This boutique hotel is located in an "Hotel Particulier" within the old walls of the city. In fact, the back of the extensive garden (that has its own website) is the city wall. There are 9 rooms, each with its own theme, and each with a gorgeous claw foot tub. Breakfast is served in a gorgeous living room with hand-painted relief ceiling, chandelier, and beautiful antique hard wood floors. Left over biscuits are made available to nibble on throughout the day. There's an "honesty" fridge with drinks. You can eat in the living room, or on the enormous deck overlooking the gardens. Florence is a beautiful city. But no matter where they had located this hotel, it would be worth a trip in and of itself.
