It’s Manhattan Season — Here’s Where to Drink One in Indianapolis This February | Eater

"The Adagio Lounge inside Hotel Carmichael beckons as Indiana’s best-kept secret for quiet conversation around a fire. Before a cabaret performance at Feinstein’s, located downstairs in the hotel, snuggle into luxury with a speciality Angel Envy’s Manhattan, made with both Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels and Rye Whiskey Finished in Rum Casks. This sophisticated parlor space is the place to see and be seen, especially while listening to a piano player sing standards of a bygone era." - Vox Creative

We love coming here! Romantic, great ambience, and lively music occasionally. Best part - NO tv screens. You can have great conversations and be present.

- Need 2nd bartender on busy nights. - Bartender said “I’ll be right with you” when we were next to get drinks. We said no problem. Proceeded to serve 4 new people at bar. Spent 25min waiting for drinks before being told “I’ll be right with you” for a second time. No thanks, I’ll save my $ for elsewhere & write a review about your crappy service.

Awesome place ! And that bartender (tall guy with the glasses) is outstanding. He's very friendly and attentive. If someone thinks he was aggressive I'm sure it was just miscommunication.

Had a less than ideal experience here last night. The bartender (tall guy with glasses) was aggressive and unprofessional. I ordered an old fashioned, asked for it to be made with makers mark. After watching him make it with woodford, and seeing that it was a four dollar up charge, I asked what the reasoning was. When I pointed this out, he snatched the drink off the bar and threw it out. He made a new one, but then rushed us to pay and told us he would get us arrested if we didn’t. He then refused to take my card when I set it down, and ignored us for nearly 10 minutes. We had to get another staff member to help us close. Then he cut us off from the bar, and the rest of our party off as he pouted. I would consider returning but would hope the staff treats people with more respect in the future.

We had a really disappointing experience here last night. The bartender (tall man with glasses — didn’t catch his name) was clearly frustrated, likely due to a large wedding party that had just arrived, but unfortunately he took it out on other patrons — including us. My fiancé ordered an Old Fashioned and asked for it to be made with Maker’s. We watched it being made with Woodford instead, and simply mentioned that we had asked for Maker’s. The bartender abruptly told us they were out — something he hadn’t said when the order was taken — and then snatched the drink out of my fiancé’s hand and aggressively threw it into the back of the bar. He muttered something about having to go downstairs and get more, left, and did eventually return with Maker’s to make a new drink. The drinks themselves were fine, but the hostility continued. He handed us the bill and insisted, four times in quick succession, that we “give him the card now” so he could cash us out. When we placed the card down, he turned his back and said, “I’m not grabbing that.” He then ignored us for around ten minutes until we asked another staff member to cash us out so we could leave. The whole interaction made us feel incredibly uncomfortable and unwelcome. We didn’t raise our voices, we didn’t demand anything — we simply asked a basic question about a drink. It’s unfortunate because the atmosphere and drinks had potential, but after this experience, we won’t be back. The bartender was agressive and yelled at us when all we did was ask a question. This is completely unacceptable for the environment we were in. We came for a calm night to wind down with a drink before heading home... not that

Stopped in before dinner for a cocktail. Wonderful ambiance and the drinks are very good! The soft piano music was a great touch

We go here often to enjoy music and some appetizers. We took a seat at the sofa like we have many times. 15 minutes in, we noticed only the bartender and no other staff. Another 15 minutes and no service. Off we go. We have had many wonderful evenings at Adagio, not tonight.

This service here is great. Dan is absolutely on point at the bar. He made sure I was well taken care of. Because of him, I will definitely be back when I'm in the area.

Yelp
Went tonight after a production at the Booth Tarkington and was really looking forward to relaxing with an apertif in a cozy setting. We went for a 3:00 show on a Sunday such that by the time we got out, it was 6:00-still early. It was in the 30's outside and already dark (thanks DLS time). Yet as we reached the top of the stairs to the lobby I was immediately disappointed that there was no fire lit in the fireplace. There were only three parties in the place. One was around the corner in the adjoining sitting area and may or may not have been drinking. There were two couples at the bar, where we considered also sitting. But the only empty spot for two had two dirty drink glasses from a previous patron still sitting. So we opted for the leather couch and chair in the main area just across from the bar. And that's where we waited, and waited, for almost 30 minutes, before giving up on getting served (or acknowledged). There was only one bartender, so we were fine with going up to order but communication would have been helpful. We stood at the bar while she chatted with the two couples, who'd all been served. We couldn't really figure out what she was doing as she seemed busy-ish yet wasn't serving, or clearing, or washing, and we were chatting between ourselves and didn't really give it much thought. Then she said she was out of something and was leaving the bar to go fetch it. We asked her to let us know when she was ready to serve us, and we took our seats to resume our conversation. The bartender returned after a while, and she served one of the original couples ... for another 10 minutes at least. Again we were talking so, while an irritation, it was in the background. About 50 minutes into our visit, she came over and took our drink order. This was my third or fourth visit, and I'd ordered my drink, an old fashioned, before and knew what to expect: bourbon of choice, Luxardo cherry, and a dehydrated orange slice. Ten minutes later we got our drinks. Now mind you, my friend ordered a glass of wine. Nothing time consuming about that. She noted that her pour was smaller than the other times she'd been there. Mine came with the whisky cube already on its way to melted, a broken (a.k.a. piece of) cherry and a twist. What? Where's my glorious little crunchy orange wheel of goodness? I had spied them on the bar earlier. No soup for me! Also, and I can't be sure 100% sure of this, but I tasted neither bitters nor syrup. Was this really just a bourbon rocks? It took a minute but we realized this gal cannot tend and talk at the same time. My friend commented that she had no idea what will happen when the place gets busy, as it has been every other time I've been there. We left after 8:00, after one drink, and for me, $21 lighter. Yeah, it's pricey. And the Carmichael crowd is a discriminating one. So we expected better. Much, much better.

Yelp
Easy parking, great atmosphere, free live music on Thu, Fri, and Sat nights. This is the perfect place to chill, grab a drink, and listen to some live music.

Yelp
I'm happy I finally made it here! It's a beautiful hotel bar- the ambiance is really the entire appeal of this place. The server we had was really nice and helpful and he was doing his best for how busy it was. Unfortunately, my drink was not worth the price- it was a $13 cocktail, which I would expect for this particular bar... but it just wasn't a good drink. I got the warm and willing, and I actually didn't finish it cause it was that bad. My friend's drink was a bit better but generally, next time I go, I would stick to their wine menu. Maybe the bartender was having an off day with the cocktails?

Yelp
Very elegant and beautiful atmosphere. The bartender is very personable. Did not get food, but the cocktail were phenomenal.

Yelp
I love the atmosphere and look of this spot. The live music always fits the vibe and isn't so loud you have to shout over your party. BUT. $17 for a drink is insane. Four drinks for myself and my partner was more expensive than our dinner at our second stop. I understand the hotel provides wealthier clientele, but that price is just a ripoff.

Yelp
I decided to get some late night drinks with a friend and we were so glad we checked this place out. Adagio Lounge is located to your left when you walk in the main entrance of the Carmichael Hotel. The first thing that hit me was the amazing smell of the hotel. I asked our super friendly bartender, Amy, what the smell was and she said that they teamed up with Penn & Beach to create a custom scent for the hotel. They push it through their air filters so it's pretty strong but not overwhelming. As for the lounge area, the vibe and decor is chic and elegant. My friend and I sat in the library-type area which had lots of seating and dimmed lighting. I had the St. Germaine Champagne drink and my friend had a gin and egg whites drink (forgetting the name). We had a fabulous time chatting in such a cozy area. Drinks range from $12-15 which is pretty standard for hotel cocktails. You can also order food to this area but we had eaten before. All in all, a great experience. Looking forward to bringing my husband for a night cap next time we have a date night.

Yelp
Great evening with my friends. Great singing at the piano and an awesome bartender. Five stars will be back.

Yelp
Stopped by here after dinner at Divvy. Let me start with the ambiance - it's so classy and elegant! The decor is amazing and you truly feel like you're in a big city hotel. We both ordered French 75s, mine was pretty average for the price (drinks were around $15). However, I loved the vibes here and would definitely come back for happy hour or after dinner drinks or to check out the live music on the weekend.

Yelp
Enjoyed this hotel and lounge. The digital baby grand replays live performances on nights without a pianist. The beverage and appetizer options are above average for a resort lobby hotel lounge.

Yelp
I went here with some friends last night and the atmosphere and vibes are amazing. It's well decorated and ostentatious. It wasn't super busy and it was easy enough to get find a place to sit (but there is limited seating as this is a hotel bar). Unfortunately, I cannot say the same thing about the service and drink I got. It took 15 minutes for a waitress to come to our table which we then thought we had to go to the bar to order but finally she came over. I glanced over the menu and didn't see a nonalcoholic/mocktail section so asked if there was anything without alcohol in it, for personal reasons. She said there was only one drink that could be modified to not have alcohol so I said okay. My friends and I also ordered a dessert. It took our waitress 30 minutes to bring us our drinks and she checked in once while passing by to clean up another table, and since she didn't come to check in it was hard to ask her down check or if we needed something. At the end, we didn't receive our dessert and i was charged $16 for a drink that didn't have alcohol in it. I stopped her and said "this was $16 even though it didn't have alcohol?" and she dismissively said "ya" and walked away. We couldn't believe this and finally found this drink on their online menu. While this is a "higher end place", there should be no reason to charge someone the same price for a drink with alcohol for a drink without alcohol. This should be much clearer description on the menu you get charged the same amount where you get alcohol or not. This was an overall disappointing experience despite the atmosphere, hence why it got 2 stars instead of 1. Also super disappointing to read the responses of these reviews from the carmichael, they do not seem to own up to refund if they overcharge or make attempts to fix their errors which is a huge red flag. rather they say they "take this feedback back to their team". i would seriously beware of going here.

James M.

Yelp
I have never been here before so my experience could be ignorance or it's just not a great place to go. With any lounge that has menus at the table, I would expect a server to come take your order. I don't mind ordering from the bar but I sat right in his line of view and waited for 35 minutes before leaving. I went to the Whiskey Exchange downtown instead which offers much better cocktails and service with an equally nice atmosphere.

Yelp
Five stars on the decor, ambience, and at first the great service. Here is why only two stars. We were given a drink menu and wine list. There was a lovely chardonnay for $10. We commented to the server that it was a good price for such a lovely venue. We ordered the small crudite plate which turned out to be a small plate with an inch of olive tapenade and about 5 baby radishes and about 5 tiny (I'm talking an inch long-these weren't even baby carrots but premies!) No crackers or bread for the tapenade. Ok, so not a good value but we didn't send it back. The real kicker was when the bill came. They had charges us $13 for each glass of wine, not the $10 on the menu. When we mentioned it they said that's what they were pouring and they couldn't do anything about it. It wasn't so much the money, but a place of that caliber should have made the adjustment immediately. We even talked to a manager the next day who promised to credit the credit card used. They didn't do that. They seemed concerned, but never made the adjustment. I think that is pretty tacky for such a high end hotel bar. Buyer beware!
