Super Sergio’s in San Diego Makes a Textbook Example of a California Burrito | Eater San Diego

"Cortez described Adalberto’s as a small step down from Humberto’s and noted that, like several of the -berto spots, it also sports a drive-thru; he suggested that Super Sergio’s probably ranks closer to Adalberto’s in quality." - Matthew Kang

Google
Oh my God food authentic taste was beyond my grandmother's cooking I had a tostada my daughter had a giant bean wrapped up with sauce kind of burrito it was chicken it was absolutely phenomenal with sour cream and guacamole my granddaughter had a quesadilla that was just the cheese was just remarkable nothing was overpriced everything was so delicious they had chips on the side you can get with some different kinds of salsas can ask for a better place I highly recommend this if I ever come back to town this is where I'm coming thank you all for being so great oh and by the way the bathroom was cleaner than the hospital bathroom at Sutter

Google
We received the incorrect orders twice in a row. Their Shrimp Tacos are DELICIOUS. We ordered four today and when we got home, they were BEEF tacos. The receipt does say shrimp tacos. Last Friday night we ordered Chips and Guacamole and got Carne Asada fries. Nice drive thru staff. However, there is def some sort of communication issue in the process. And they charge an ATM fee and we did not use a ATM card.

Tasha L.

Google
We have only ordered through the drive thru and we typically get Caritas Super Nachos, Carne Asada Fries and/or burritos. Portions are good. The Carne Asada fries are just ok, the fries are similar to McDonald's and are usually limp not crispy. Ive had better versions at other places. But the Super Nachos have always been good and you get a really good portion. The burritos are also good with good portions. And they will give you extra salsa if you ask for them

I went to this place twice, first experience was ok. The food was awesome. Then I came back on 1/31/2026. This is a drive thru very convenient. I ordered the same food I ordered the first time: 1 Chile verde plate and 1 beef crispy tacos, I get to the window and the cashier said bill is $45!!! What!?!? For a chile verde plate and a crispy taco??? She said "oh I thought you said 5 tacos" ah hello I cannot eat 5 tacos I only need one crispy taco. Does one sound five to you? I did not say that to her. Then she said bill is $21 and change ok, I gave her my card. I signed the receipt gave her $4 tip total bill should be $24.73 I asked for the receipt. I came home and ate. Three days later the charge on my card from this Adalbertos is $24.91 and another charge for $24.73, wow, swiped my card twice?? I was mad, I filed a dispute with my card company, sent my receipt. I am still furious, I never dispute transactions because merchajts are honest, apparently not this one. My card company said it takes 60 days to investigate. What an inconvenience. Very disappointed. Dishonest merchants have no right to operate a business.

Went after a girls high school basketball game! Smashed some carne asada fries, a super burrito, some fish tacos and an abodaba plate I believe #16? Absolutely delicious and flavorful! Loved the self-serve chip bar with multiple salsas to choose from! Staff was friendly and attentive.

Google
This is the fifth time I've gotten Carne Asada Fries, and the fries were cold, and tasted like they were made a long time ago. I'm the past, I've just dealt with it, and been disappointed in my food. This time, the fries were so cold and gross, I left my house just mere seconds after arriving to get my money back. By the way, my house is within 2 minute drive. Not a chance of they actually cooked this fresh out would be stone cold by the time i got home. Of course they will only refund the amount of the fries, not the additional tip I left. I will absolutely never give them another cent of my hard earned money. Worst ever. Would give them less than 1 star if I could.

Marianna

Google
If I could give 0 stars I would. When i tell you the chicken burrito had nothing but sour cream and cheese and beans there was barely any chicken and it wasn’t very flavorful. They charge almost 15 for a super burrito and although portion size is good. Food quality is horrible.

Google
I used to love this place, went there to order 3 street Carne Asada tacos with cilantro and onions with guacamole added to them, with a side of rice and beans and Limes. They said it cost $33 plus for this , the tacos are 3.25 each. How is that $33. Absolutely robbing people!

Yelp
I recently swung by this spot because it was super close, and I needed to grab some food for the workers at my house. I ordered five adobada burritos and some drinks, and I was really impressed with how fast the drive-through was. It was a lifesaver for me since I was in a rush! Now, let me tell you about my absolute favorite: their flying saucer! It's huge which means it's big enough to share, and when you add lots of that amazing green salsa, it takes it to another level. 4/5 for sure. The staff are great and friendly. The drive thru was super fast and efficient. It's not the cleanest but it's not bad. I'll be back for sure!

Yelp
Wow no wonder this place only has 2.5 stars. I ordered a steak quesadilla this evening, only to come home to find cheese on one side of the quesadilla and the other side of the quesadilla completely dry with meat falling out of it. Although this was a good portion of meat, it was definitely not of any quality and certainly had a chewy like texture, which led me to believe it was not cooked within the same day possibly.I had only had Alberto's one other time in the last five years and thought hey it's convenient. I'll give it another shot. I'm astounded by how disgusting this looks how it was tossed together, it wasn't even busy. Take a look for yourself.

Yelp
Usually our place for tacos. No more. Last night we each had 2 crispy beef tacos. Shortly after we both had stomach cramping. We were awake all night with diarrhea and vomiting continuing into today. Not great! Since we both had the same thing and the same reaction, I'm guessing handwashing is an afterthought at this place. So long Adalbertos. You're not that good that I am sad about not going back. Be careful if you eat here.

Ricky R.

Yelp
16 dollar burrito could Atlease come with a drink. It's supposed to be like 12.50 for this lame burrito anyways

Yelp
We come to this location the most. We love their rolled tacos. I get the five chicken rolled tacos with cheese and guacamole. My husband gets the beef with cheese. This time we tried a churro it was very good! We usually use the drive thru, but last time and this time we went inside to order..we still took it home. But they have remodeled inside looks very nice. Always very clean restaurant and friendly atmosphere.

Yelp
I've been here a handful of times but this is the first time this year. While I had a good experience at the drive-thru, the lady was nice, friendly and had a smile on her face, the quality of food wasn't the best. First off, there was a cleaning chemical smell when I took a bite of the taquito. At these adalbertos there is always a strong scent of chemicals especially when you dine in. I know they try to sanitize the place a lot but this time I could even smell it my food and ordered to go! The vegetables were fresh which I liked. They do skimp on the salsas I only got one small little baby container of the green and red salsa. If you ask for pico de gallo and the pickled carrots they will give to you. Overall, it wasn't horrible I just wish that they would not have that strong cleaning agent near the food (hopefully it wasn't in the food) but to minimize the strength of the smell. I haven't dined in yet but I'll be curious to know if the scent is the same.

DJack K.

Yelp
The food was so horrendously made that it was inedible. Tried to get my money back, and they refused. I had not eaten anything. They are horrible people who run a horrible business. Avoid like the plague.

I.B. T.

Yelp
Awful. They mess up your order. I asked three times for a fresh Jalapeno. I got something cooked. I ordered two tacos on corn. I got one on corn and one soggy fried corn thing. Terrible.

Yelp
Midnight munchies?.. come here! Adalbertos Mexican Food has a 24 hour drive thru. I had some late night cravings for some goooood Carne asada fries and got just that plus some street tacos and a regular burrito. The food was all delicious. The fries were not soggy at all but still and a lot of yummy Toppings. The lady at the drive thru was super nice too. Got my food fast. Definitely recommend and will be coming back for sure.

Yelp
My friend and I had been looking for the Adalberto's right off of the freeway. Turns out that the one we were thinking of had closed down. Luckily, Yelp helped us find this one, instead. We stopped in here to recharge ourselves on Black Friday. We ordered the 5 rolled taco combo with rice and beans, guacamole and cheese. It also came with a drink cup, which my friend used for iced tea. We had a choice of chicken or beef. I prefer beef, but my friend wanted chicken, so we ordered that. I'm pretty sure they use canned chicken, but it was okay. They didn't give us very much guacamole and cheese. I've ordered rolled tacos from Adalbertos an embarrassing number of times before, and this was a relatively disappointing amount of guacamole. It would have barely been the right amount for three tacos, in my opinion. The guacamole was good, though, and so were the rice and beans. The taquitos were cooked just right, crispy but still tender, golden brown. I loved their salsa bar. The pico de gallo was good, and the avocado salsa was even better. It almost made up for the lack of guacamole on our rolled tacos. We just wished that the salsa cups were bigger. The inside seemed very clean, with fresh paint, and cute decorations. I remembered this being a Carolina's, but you can tell by the architecture that it was probably a Taco Bell before that. Overall, not bad for an Adalbertos.

Yelp
I go to this restaurant regularly for breakfast/lunch, but that is going to change starting now. I was eating my breakfast burrito and a quarter of the way through I took a bite and felt something sharp that cut my inner cheek. I spat out the bite and searched it thoroughly and found some type of blade in the burrito. All beware of this restaurant as it seems quality and safety for their patrons isn't in their policies.

Yelp
Rude as hell. Come here a bit for the convenience of it. Walk in ask about the bathroom and get a dirty telling me it's customers. Said I am a customer I just need to go kinda bad. Well you order first. No thanks. Plenty of other places I guess

Yelp
Never disappoints!! I love the tacos here as well as a chips and guacamole. Hearty portion sizes which are great for a quick snack. The place is clean, service is fast and friendly and it's my go-to destination whenever I'm passing through the area.

Yelp
Nice people. Food served cold. Ordered carne asada and it was below room temp. Came home and nuked it after picking my bud up from the ER at dignity health. BTW the soda machine at Mercy San Juan has a broken refrigeration unit. Cold burrito and warm Pepsi. FML.

Yelp
Best Mexican food ever!!! Never been here before looked this place and saw the reviews so we decided to give it a try. The chimichanga was the best thing I've eaten!! Hot fresh & super stuffed with really good ingredients. it came with guacamole and sour cream , it was so delicious. The tables & floors in that place were super clean!! I'll be back before traveling back to the east coast!

Yelp
Terrible drive through service on a Saturday extremely rude! Meat was great, and great serving sizes but unfortunately my tortilla tasted old. Definitely need to work on customer service the young girl who was working the drive through slammed the window in my face. She was upset I no longer wanted limes, which is extremely unprofessional. Will not be returning unfortunately!!!!

Yelp
Stopped by on a rare day out to do 2 online pickups. Drive thru. 5 rolled tacos, chile relleno burrito and a shrimp burrito. Ok they liked their rolled tacos with cheese and guac. My chile relleno burrito I had the day after was good but not as good as others I have had. But here comes the bullshit. The shrimp burrito...I pulled out a shell and dismissed it. I ate half and another big shell. Then, 1/4 more and yet another shell. To end it all, another shell at the end. 4 f%%king shells! Sloppy as hell! My fav place for shrimp burritos may have once had a small shell in many times but never large ones. Killed off what would have been a good burrito. I have been a patron of many Adalberto's all around Sac as I was around them when I sub taught in the San Juan school district. I haven't had much of it lately. This Carolina's turned into an Adalberto's and reviews said it was remodeled, cleaner and better. My experience with the lack of care with the prep of my food really turned me off. I hope they fix this problem before peeps choke on shells from their shrimp burritos. Just plain wrong....

Yelp
This is the worst Mexican food U have eaten. Ordered a Machacha Breafast Burrito and it was terrible. When you try to fix it yourself and it still is right they need to close the doors. Best Adelbertos ElCamino and Howe on my way to work. This location needs to close. Really they want a star rating! Is there a black star to rate this with?

Alex K.

Yelp
Ive been coming here for long time and the last couple of years the service and quality of food fell drastically. They constantly give cold and unflavored food. I now avoid this place..

B M G.

Yelp
Ordered a taco salad in the drive-through last night for the first time. When I got home, I dug into it and right away noticed it did not have guacamole and sour cream in it, and it tasted heavy on the salt. I also noticed it wasn't very flavorful, and it definitely didn't have that fresh taste that I've experienced it other restaurants. Without getting overly graphic that dish ran through me like a freight train hence why I am writing this review at 4:15 AM. It's been a very long night so far after eating it. I am very disappointed with my selection tonight and I will just leave it there.

Pat G.

Yelp
like the taste of the beans and rice. As in all fast food places the price is getting to high for my income!
google avatar

Huey N.

Yelp
Their bacon and potato breakfast burrito was the best I've had in years. Every bite was perfect. Something about the way they cook the bacon...
google avatar

Khristy M.

Yelp
Great, authentic, fast Mexican food at a reasonable price. This location has a 24 hour drive through! Taco Bell is across the street and I don't know how they stay in business!

John T.

Yelp
Great window reception. Fast service. 3 out of 4 burritos are great. Having said that, there is one out of four that completely miss the mark. I order the 24, with no meat, and pay upgrade for extra egg. Not sure what the up charge is. Now, one out of four times, there is one that is stuffed with potatoes, and hardly any eggs. Today my Son and I bought 2 # 24's, and there was almost no egg in either one. I have a theory that at the end of a batch, they will just throw in extra potatoes to keep things moving, rather than have me wait for them to cook eggs to satisfy the order. To substantiate my theory, when there is very little egg to potato ratio, the egg is chopped into tiny pieces in an attempt to make it hard to tell how much egg is in the burrito. Well, I took the burritos apart, and separated the egg. THERE WAS ONLY ONE EGG FOR TWO BURRITOS! I called the restaurant and they were willing to cook two more, but I don't have the time or patience to do this every fourth trip. Please, don't short the eggs, for whatever reason. I will wait till you cook more, and 1/2 egg per burrito cant cost more than 5% of your cost. Hopefully I get what I paid for next time, it's just hard to open the burrito to check that the eggs didn't get cheated, and roll it back up to drive and eat without spilling all the potatoes that were jammed in there to hide the lack of egg! I will still come back, and 3 out of 4 times it will be worth it. John

Yelp
Worst customer service. I placed my order asking 1st for a chicken nacho she said supreme and I said yes. The we asked what comes in the Chimichanga they said beans and meat my daughter asked for rice in it please. I asked for burrito supreme a churro large horchata and bottle of coke. 1st of all when I went to pay at the drive thru she kept telling me my Apple Pay didn't work. We tried 5 times then finally it worked. As we left I asked my daughter to make sure all the items were there. There were only 2 items and the churro. So I went back to let them know I had an item missing. Then they said I never ordered the chicken nachos. And made me pay $12 + change. Then it took another 20 min to see if I paid or not. OMG after having another coworker come. She finally said I paid. 5 min later I got my food. Now while I was pulling out I decided I wanted my churro. But guess what they omitted it out this time. They re-baggedthe food and for got my churro. I had to go in another time to tell them they forgot my churro it took them another 7 to 10 min. Now about the food... my daughter asked for a Chimichanga and got a wet burrito... chimichangas don't get sauced. My burrito suprem was only bland beans, meat and pico de gallo. There was no cheese or sour cream. And the ratio beans to meat was crazy. I thought I was eating a bland bean burrito. My husbands nacho were cold and in appetizing . The churro and horchata were the best part. No I would not go here again
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
Not all Adalberto's are created equal. Shrimp nachos and a drink for less than $16 and I kid you not, there were no less than a dozen shrimp on this bad boy. Refried beans were excellent and chips were really fresh. Lots of fresh choices in the salsa bar. Only downside was there was so much stuff on it that I had to eat it with a fork, if you can even call that a downside!

Sarah R.

Yelp
It's not that hard to apologize to someone when you mess up and they have to drive all the way back. Not even looking for a refund when I came back (plus I even tipped originally) How hard is it to apologize?
google avatar

Kristina T.

Yelp
One late drunken night, the hubby and I found ourselves at the crossroads of Auburn and Greenback in search of some greasy/sobering food! I was torn between Jack In The Box tacos and Adalbertos carne asada fries, so by unanimous decision we found ourselves in the drive thru ordering Mexican food! Don't worry, I have visited this establishment many times after and not just on drunken nights! I have ordered and tried many items off the menu but the carne asada fries is what keeps us coming back. I like to order my fries with shrimp then I'll add some dabs of hot sauce... Highly addictive! I have also tried the shrimp combo and didn't care for it at all. The to go plate it came in didn't have those dividers or sections so literally everything was touching and combined like a blob of food. The included tortillas were over warmed so when I opened the foil it was wrapped in, it was hard as a rock... So no thanks on the combo plates! At this location, I have only been in the drive thru so I can't say much about the interior, ambiance, etc. My experiences aren't too memorable but that could just mean I don't usually run into issues here as far as missing items or rude customer service (not because I'm drunk. Hahaha) ... So in this scenario, non memorable is a good thing!

Jen M.

Yelp
Where's the eggs at Aldalbertos?????? I get there is a price hike on eggs, but you guys are jipping us on eggs, and charging us way more than you used to. This is all ham mixed with probably one egg and cheese. We are noticing this, it's happens in your "egg, cheese, bacon and potato burritos too. This is ridiculous. I'm so frustrated, I don't want just ham for breakfast.

Jason S.

Yelp
Uck! Cheese enchilada was just a tortilla filled with cold raw shredded cheese. Fried taco was a rubbery hard to chew corn tortilla. Beans...ew Rice...fine. Waste of $ 15.00 bucks. Won't be back!
google avatar

Liam S.

Yelp
TERRIBLE FOOD. I came by late at night and got a carna asada burrito and I got food poisoning the next day. The service was awful and the meat was old which was why I got food poisoning. I had the chills , body ache , fever and really bad diarrhoea for days. Never going back again.
google avatar

Liz S.

Yelp
I eat takeout food once a week. So I think long and hard about what I want to treat myself to! This past Friday was Mexican fast food. I'd eaten here a couple of times and the chicken tostada is good and their beans w/cheese are good. It seems like they just don't care anymore and throw anything in a styrofoam container without thinking. First and worst of all...the guacamole was old, gray/green and smelled spoiled. There went my order of rolled tacos since it was slathered all over them! The hard shell under the tostada was soggy.....I live 2 minutes away....how did it get so soggy so fast! There are more and more Mexican restaurants and taquerias opening up close by and Adalbertos prices aren't exceptionally great so they should heed the tone of the majority of reviews! Or they could just just excel at what they're good at.....middle of the night drunk food!

Taeshanea H.

Yelp
Zero stars if I could. Mexican Food has always been a comfort food for me because I am from San Diego. I went to this place because they cook it the best in my area. They over charged me & did not give me a receipt when they messed up my order, so I asked for them to remake it & they made a completely different burrito that wasn't my order. I told them this wasn't my order & processed to tell me they couldn't do anything about it nor refund me so I asked them to please take back the burrito then. They stood there & acted like they couldn't hear me & proceeded to talk in their native language while ignoring me. I know a bit of Spanish, but when frustrated I do not understand it. I gave them back their food. The manager threw his drink at me & closed the window on my nails & had the nerve to call the police on me & lie about how I paid for my order. This happened Monday Early Morning, I am still in pain & still cleaning up his drink in my car. I keep calling to see who is the General Manager to press charges against the assault because of my nail, but whenever I call they act like there's never a manager on duty then when the manager is on duty he purposely speaks in Spanish to not assist me. I will not be going here anymore & it hurts me because it was so good with the worse experience ever.

Yelp
Just bought a chorizo burrito. Got home to eat it and it felt like there was sand in the burrito. Turns out just a bunch of egg shells. Very poor quality.
google avatar

Yelp
Yummy vegetarian burrito and it's by far the largest burrito I've ever had! You can make two meals out of it easily. I will be back.

Yelp
Any true local in the Sacramento area knows about Adalbertos. But if that's not you, then Adalbertos is a local Mexican food chain that has some of the best damn Mexican food money can buy. Plus they all have drive-thrus so it's super convenient. Personal faves include: California Burrito and add sour cream. You won't regret it. The horchata is a wonderful treat now and then too. And if Adalbertos didn't invent the carne asada fries, they sure did perfect them. They are a fat kids dream. The super quesadillas are great too--huge portions. I also enjoy their rolled tacos with cheese and guacamole. Omg I'm making myself hungry now. Anyways, make sure to ask for extra green sauce too ;)

Greg S.

Yelp
We got a delivery order of two burritos and a taco. The menu said pico, guacamole, sour cream and cheese were included with the burritos. All we got were squares of dried up chicken. Worst Mexican fare I have ever had served to my family. My God, Taco Bell is light years ahead of this pit. I called to ask if we got the wrong order but they were just f'ing busy to pay attention to my concerns. Avoid this roach trap
google avatar

Allyson M.

Yelp
Ever since this place got new management, it's become soo good! I used to come here and the inside lobby was always dirty. I was impressed upon walking in at the extra clean lobby! The salsa and chips station were super clean as well. The service is always excellent, fast and the employees are always friendly. If you haven't been to Adalberto's since their upgrade, you need to go! Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything on their menu - everything is tasty here.

Victoria L.

Yelp
I got an carne asada super burrito yesterday. Woke up with a headache from hell and vomiting constantly. Went to dr and got diagnosed with a severe food poisoning. Don't EAT FROM HERE. You will regret it!!!!

Bill L.

Yelp
Good food and service. Wide selection of traditional dishes. Food ready fast! Indoor seating and drive-thru. Convenient location: easy in and out.

Ivelisse C.

Yelp
Fui a este negocio y estuvimos parados ahí esperando a que nos atendieran y nos ignoraron como si no hubiera nadie ahí no le daría ni una estrella horrible.

Brittney T.

Yelp
Charged me for rice instead of Jamaica and gave me lettuce tomatoes and rice for my vegetarian burrito and then had to charge me again for the drink because they charged me for rice ( never asked for that) instead of the drink

Yelp
We have been regular customers here, and love so many of their muni items. Last night after a long 10 hour drive from Las Vegas, we drove through and ordered rolled tacos and a taco I repeated the order twice, I got home and the order was wrong, so I called right away. The girl I spoke to said they usually don't usually correct the order the following day bout under the circumstances they would give me an order of rolled tacos if I did come in today. She took my name. I went in tonight and the girl refused to honor the offer and said that my name was not in the books. They were willing to lose a customer over a mistake they made, and treat me like I was trying to get something for nothing. I am a strong advocate of the customer is always right in my own business and that is the kind of business Ed I frequent. I'll not be going back to this place again.
google avatar

Derek B.

Yelp
This is the one place I go to get my breakfast burrito fix. I don't mind driving out of my way to get it. Today I went and ordered a chorizo breakfast burrito with no cheese, before the associate gave me my food she tried to confirm which number I ordered. I said the chorizo burrito with no cheese because I didn't know the number. Well I get all the way home take a huge bite and it's a carne asada burrito. So disappointed. I'll be sure to check my burrito going forward.
google avatar

Lindsey W.

Yelp
This place used to Be Carolinas. I think it taste much better now. I'm sad the prices have gone up though. $4 for one ground beef taco is a bit much. But I love the chips with Mexican cheese and salsa. Their pico is amazing! The breakfast burrito, Carne Asada fries, quesadillas, and super burritos are good. They don't skimp. We come here a couple times a month and are never disappointed.
google avatar

Anissa B.

Yelp
This place is so much better than the Carolina's that was there previously! I've ordered a chicken chimichanga with no sauce, my go-to order, twice recently; both times it has been superb. Absolutely delicious, five stars! :)

Heidster K.

Yelp
Complete ass. Tasteless. Can tell they don't care how they food taste. If they can't make carne asada fries taste good or a Torta then they are hopeless. Save your money, this is if you starving and lazy!
