The 31 Essential Kolkata Restaurants

"This century-old kebab shop is tucked away inside a warren of narrow lanes in a bustling central Kolkata neighborhood. Adam’s is famous for sutli kebab, spiced mince skillfully skewered and grilled on glowing embers. The kebab gets its name from sutli, cotton thread that is deftly twined around the skewer so it doesn’t disintegrate. Once the kebab is done, the thread is pulled out, and the moist, smoky meat crumbles onto the plate. The melt-in-your-mouth meat, textured with bits of charred crust, is served with slivers of raw onions and a wedge of lime. Adam’s is one of the most popular stops for those who visit the area during Ramadan, when the neighborhood morphs into an Iftar bazaar every evening." - Priyadarshini Chatterjee

Walking into Adam’s Kabab is like stepping into a piece of Kolkata’s culinary history. This iconic kebab shop has been serving up its famous sutli (thread) kebabs for generations and is a must-visit stop for meat lovers exploring Zakaria Street and Phears Lane. The signature beef suta kebab — meat marinated with spices so fine it’s bound by thread to the skewer — is often described as melt-in-your-mouth and richly flavorful, a true testament to the shop’s long-standing legacy. The menu isn’t limited to beef; chicken boti and mutton versions are available too, and wraps or rolls add variety to the experience. Many customers praise the tenderness, smoky grilling, and authentic spices that make the kebabs stand out among Kolkata’s street eats. However, it’s not without its downsides. Because the place is essentially a hole-in-the-wall, narrow and often crowded especially during peak hours or festive seasons like Ramadan, the atmosphere can feel chaotic. Some diners also point to hygiene concerns and inconsistent quality depending on when you visit. Portions are sometimes seen as small for the price, and online delivery experiences don’t always match the original shop’s taste. In short, Adam’s Kabab is a classic Kolkata street food experience — worth trying once for its legendary sutli kebab and local charm, though expectations about portions and ambiance should be tempered.

Hole in the wall establishment but a must try if you are doing a Zakaria street food walk. Try their suta kabab, melt in the mouth goodness. Don't worry about hygiene for once, the food moves quick and is well cooked. They take care in serving people who are averse to having beef, serving and cooking their mutton and chicken items separately at the other side of the street-service at its finest. Watching them make suta kabab is a fascinating sight too

This beloved spot holds a special place in my heart, and I find myself drawn to it with each visit to Kolkata. The flavors, the ambiance, and the overall experience never fail to impress me. I can't help but sing praises for their mouthwatering beef kebabs, which have become a highlight of my dining adventures in the city. If you're in Kolkata, make sure to carve out some time to indulge in the culinary delights this place has to offer—you won't regret it!

Heard a lot about their kebabs. A well known place in Kolkata for their Sutta and Boti Kebab! But my experience is not quite good. I went there during Ramzan month and tried their Chicken and Mutton Sutta kebab. Umm chicken sutta was quite good but disappointed with the mutton one it was undercooked and cold when they served it. I told them that it’s undercooked and cold so they did changed it but still was not happy with the taste maybe it was not my day but will try some other day so see if it’s worth the hype! I went there during Ramadan. The food is quite delicious. The mutton suta kebab was very soft and flavourful. The chicken boti kabab was so soft and juicy that you could cut the chicken with a plastic spoon without any effort. But the place is situated on a crowded street in a narrow alley. There's also smoke coming off the kebar grill.

Its okay....i tried chicken suta kebab the chicken was juicy and tender, the kebab would pair perfectly with lachha paratha or the likes of it. I also wanted to try chicken boti kebab but it wasn't available. Beef and mutton kebabs are also available. If u r touchy about beef and chicken being cooked in the same tawa better to skip this joint. Also the atmosphere around the shop was little creepy. But it was one of a kind kebab ,so it is worth a try!!!

A very small shop serving the worst Kebabs in the country. I have tried Kebabs in many cities like Delhi, Lucknow, Kashmir and Hyderabad. I can tell you that this is the worst that you are gonna get. A very small shop with 3 people running it. Hygiene is a crime here!!! Atmosphere feels like you are in a dump yard. The environment stinks like hell😷
