My wife, Marty, has been here before and did me the great favor of taking me here today, in my last hours before I turn over another year, birthday eve. OH, MY! What a gem in a still growing neighborhood. Sure there’s a couple local diners, yer usual pizza joints, coffee places, Ethiopian is sooo much fun and the food is delicious, the decor is beautiful and comfortable, the service is great and welcoming. Co’mon! Skip pizza or take out Chinese! Make tonight ETHIOPIAN! You’ll thank me later! Tell ‘em Marty and Fitz sent ya!

Food was so tasty, and the awaze (lamb) tibbs was our favorite. The coffee was great and the baklava was delicious. The best part was the friendly staff and the welcoming atmosphere. We genuinely felt at home.

The ambience is very casual but the service is superb; better than most fancy restaurants. The server was very attentive and seemed to read our mind before we asked. The food was all top notch as well. Ordered the Ethiopian spiced tea, the beef combo, and baklava. The tea was bold and spicy, similar to a great chai tea. The beef combo injera was absolutely delightful, with bold spice, tender meats, and some lentils too! 11/10 definitely recommend

The staff at this Ethiopian restaurant create a warm and welcoming experience, adding to the great quality food being served. 🇪🇹 In my visit to NYC I was looking forward to dining at an Ethiopian restaurant. I visited Addey Ababa as a first timer and the restaurant definitely deserves a second visit. I have to give the staff a 10/10 for their service and kindness. In terms of the food, the restaurant can cater to both vegans and meat eaters. I ordered the Shiro Wot, a very tasty, non-spicy chickpea stew. I also had a coffee, which was delicious and needed absolutely no creamer added. High quality restaurant. I recommend you give Addey Ababa an have the experience for yourself.

The most delicious and authentic Ethiopian food you can find outside of Addis!! The owners are kind, welcoming and so hospitable. 10/10 food and service! Can’t wait to go back.

They have a vegetarian section on their menu with 5+ options. Tried the vegetarian combo. It was tasty, though the misir wot wasn't as thick and spicy as I had at another Ethiopian restaurant. The spicy tea was nice.

What a spectacular find! This lovely Ethiopian restaurant has a welcoming ambiance and delicious food cooked by sisters with complementary talents — one specializes in the vegetarian dishes and one in the meat dishes. Both are perfectly spiced and served with the care that such beautifully crafted food deserves.

It was my first time having Ethiopian food and I've gone back 3 times since. Love this place and the staff is great. The food is so delicious, seems pricy but brings a LOT of food!

Amazing Ethiopian restaurant! The food was fantastic, all dishes were delicious and authentic. Lots of options for vegetarians or meat lovers alike with the different platters offered. Started with the spicy katenga and sambussa as appetizers. Then came the main course which was a hearty portion of yum with a variety of meat and vegetable dishes served on top of the Injera. The service was above and beyond with extremely friendly and attentive servers. This is a family owned restaurant, the owners are very friendly and proudly share their Ethiopian culture and cuisine. Ambiance was very nice and homely with tasteful decor. Addey Ababa is a must try for top notch Ethiopian food!

I love Ethiopian food and struggle to find locations, but I'm glad I found this one. Upon arrival I was greeted with a warm smile from those who worked there. The fresh flowers, details, and cleanliness made them stand out to me. If I had space for dessert I would've definitely indulged-- I'm pretty sure like everything else I had there it would've been amazing.

What a lovely affordable Ethiopian spot in Washington heights! I went as soon as it opened on a Sunday afternoon with a friend, and the staff were immediately so kind and attentive. We ordered a vegetarian combo to split, and that (combined with the endless injera) was enough for a lunch. The injera was top tier, nice and sour and fermenty, and all the dishes were well spiced. I had a great experience, and it was super affordable, so I would 10/10 definitely go again!

It is hard to find affordable Ethiopian food in NYC. So, will walking in Washington Heights, we notice this restaurant we needed to try. Food: 5/5 I attempted to be healthy and get the vegetarian platter. My partner humored me along as long as he could have something with meat on the side. It was great, either way! Feeding two of us under $80 is major accomplishment! Service: 5/5 Everyone was super nice and patient! My partner and I worked had many questions since I have food restrictions, but they were very understanding! It was a great vibe. All on all, I would definitely go back for some good Ethiopian food. I hope to bring more people so we can have full table next time!

I eat here at least every other week! I will go out of my way to have their veggie sampler which I think is the BEST IN NY. I think the meat is okay, just trust me order the veggie sampler. The service is always fast and the staff are super friendly me ambiance is casual but still nice enough for laid back date night. The injeria is perfectly tangy in a way that some NY Ethiopian places are. So grateful to have been introduced to Addey Ababa

Ethiopian restaurant in my neighborhood?!?! You bet I'm going! (Sadly, I have moved away and this is no longer an easy local place to eat, but very glad I was able to get out and try it.) My visit was in late September, while they were just getting started. We ordered 2 meat dishes and a veggie combo platter. Portions of the veggies were ample, but the meat portions seemed on the smaller side. My husband (who admittedly was quite hungry) almost finished off both meat entrees. The flavors were delicious (but a little bit muted), and I enjoyed the variety of flavors and textures of every dish we had. The service was friendly and prompt. We did ask for our foods on separate platters, so the meat and veggies would be separate, and it arrived on the same platter. The restaurant was very clean, but had ethiopian artwork and felt exotic yet practical. No mesob or carpets here.

Absolutely love the food here and so glad it opened in the heights! We walked in for lunch on a Thurs around 12pm and we were the only customers, seated immediately. Ordered samusas + meat combo and lamb platters to share btwn 3 people, which left us all full. Everything comes with injera and they bring out more if you run out. All of it was super delicious and meat was very tender. We also ordered a tiramisu to share at the end which is made in-house - also pretty fire. Total after tax and tip ended up around $20/person which is very affordable for nyc!

Finally, the one thing missing from Washington Heights has arrived! The lamb dishes and the veg combo are our go-tos. Super friendly, comfortable place with food that is oh so good! The one thing missing from the place is kitfo. But with the quality of everything else, it is fully excusable!

Beautiful vibe upon stepping in, great music, friendly and kind demeanor from host/server. Went for a light bite to share of a Vegetarian Combo and a Limonata San Pellegrino. Everything was flavorful and nicely balanced between textures, spice and mild, sour and sweet. A lovely warming meal. Definitely would come back for more!

We love Ethiopian food so just walked in with no expectations. The food is outstanding, and the owners are lovely warm and welcoming people. We just moved to this neighborhood but we'll be regulars for sure. The spicy meat dishes are particularly good (beef and lamb), and the lentils and split peas the dishes come with are excellent as well. We can't recommend it enough, great food and great value.

Truly, the best Ethiopian food I've ever had (including all my favorite spots in DC). The flavors were perfect and just spicy enough (and I love spice!). The staff was incredibly kind and suggested I sit in the warmest spot under the heater, since I was clearly very cold after coming in from frigid temps. Such a charming spot and I can't stop thinking about the vegetarian combo with the Ethiopian spiced tea...! 11/10 recommend

Excellent Ethiopian. We had the vegetarian and chicken, bth brought the flavor. Get the tomato appetizer it's real nice. Affordable. Warm service. Bright clean interior with cool art. Go and enjoy yourself.

Incredible flavor and quality! The lamb (Awaze Tibs) was my favorite. Owned by a wonderful Ethiopian family who are long time community members, who are now sharing their delicious family recipes with us all.

If I could take the A train and come here more often, I totally would. Loved the vegetarian sampler, warm service and classic ambiance.

What an absolute gem of a restaurant! Absolutely delicious Ethiopian food, served with generous portions. Three sister's own this and just opened up Sept 16, 2023. Service is wonderful, the atmosphere is like eating at a new friend's home. It's clean, spacious, and spells scrumptious! Also loved the honey wine, Ethiopian beer and the tiramisu. I had a big bag of leftovers and can't wait to some back with a big group of friends! Such a fantastic restaurant right up in Washington Heights on 181!

Delicious. If you want spices, they have spices. As a meat eater, the vegetarian options are also delic'. It looks somewhat fancy from the outside, but is quite casual and welcoming. The staff are all smiles. This is my second visit. Support diverse cuisine in your neighborhood!

This is a most welcome addition to the Heights. Split a few dishes with a friend. The awaze tibs and doro wat were both very flavorful. The complexity of the berbere really shines with the chicken. The vegetarian dishes were also on point. We had kik alicha wot, misir wot and shiro wot - all tasty. They are also not stingy with the injera. Very friendly people, and I look forward to returning. Finally, a great restaurant in this location on 181st!

You HAVE TO dine here! The owners are delightful - we were welcomed and attended to throughout our dinner. I had not had Ethiopian food before - ordered a meat combo plate to share and it was DELICIOUS. Make it a point to come here. The service, the food, and ambience is wonderful. Excellent healthy Ethiopian food. The Injera is delightful and the vegetarian platter leaves you healthy- full (not food coma full). Will come back next time I'm in the heights!

Food is pretty good but not the best I've had. I appreciate the selections that they offer. But the menu is a bit rigid as to what you can get vs paying through the nose to get it. It would be nice if I could choose the veg that goes with the meat combo instead of getting what they choose to go with it. Really the ability to mix and match as I choose would be great. The people there are really nice and friendly. And I like how they've decorated. Much better quality than the shawarma restaurant it replaced.

My friend and I had dinner here last night and it was absolutely fantastic. The food is so flavorful and the service is absolutely top notch. We were there for over two hours; it was a vibrant ambiance and hard to leave to go back out in the cold! Can't wait to try other dishes!

Pretty tasty. I think the veggie sampler is better than the other sampler with meat dishes. And I'm a total carnivore. You won't feel like you skimped here! It's the kind of food I can eat a lot of and enjoy it and not feel like I've overeaten. You know how it feels awful after a plate of chicken wings? This is a great place to indulge and I never feel sorry. to be sure, I've had great Ethiopian food in Los Angeles and DC and on 145th and in Montclair. The food here is not as flashy and restaurant-ey and is less oily. the food tastes more like healthy homemade, for long life, rather than "going out and pigging out." I love getting takeout here. What a great addition to our neighborhood.

A truly wonderful addition to the neighborhood! Had such a great experience at Addey Ababa. The service was so lovely and the food was incredibly delicious. Some of the best Ethiopian food I've had. I will be going back again and again to try everything on the menu.

Love Ethiopian food and this is top notch. Great seasoned stews and the trademark injera bread. we had the Siwa Wot, nice heat and depth, and the vegetarian combo. Really excited to add this option to our repertoire. Couldn't be happier.

Eating here was an experience that exceeded my wildest expectations. The food, the service, the environment were all exceptional and extremely pleasant. We got both samplers so we got a taste of everything, and I highly recommend doing this! Will definitely put this at the top of my list of local fare. Thank you!

The food is incredibly fragrant and flavorful... and such incredible service. So many smiles. And a great location. About a half a block from the subway. Looking forward to coming back next time I'm in town!

Fantastic find. A friend and I stumbled upon this after a long walk on Hudson. The service was excellent (our server saw we were torn between a few menu items and customized the platter), and the food (we got the Doro Tibs) was fantastic.

Kinda disappointing. I was SO looking forward to having an Ethiopian restaurant in my neighborhood, but I was disappointed by this place. I had the vegetarian sampler ($21). Each dish was one-note in its flavoring and really under spiced. I ordered takeout and live literally around the corner, but the food was lukewarm by the time I got home. It's a shame the dishes don't come with any sides, which is very standard at Ethiopian restaurants.That's why I ordered the sampler. On the whole, the menu is overpriced by $2 or $3 an entree for the neighborhood. Comparable Ethiopian restaurants in Harlem are cheaper and better for the same amount of food. I want this place to succeed, but it has to be better before I'll order from there again.

Wonderful restaurant. We've been there several times now and have tasted everything on the menu. The food is delicious and carefully prepared and served. The staff is warm and welcoming. Terrific place!

Food is attic and delicious. The prices are more than reasonable and the owners are charming. They've recently come into ownership of a liquor license.

I took out some delicious food from this establishment. The owners couldn't've been nicer and more accommodating. I am so happy to have this restaurant in my neighborhood and hopefully with this glowing review, everyone will want to try it to keep it here!

What a great addition to the neighborhood! So it looks like this might be the first review here on Yelp so I want to be sure I represent this place well! It's a small space - maybe 5 or 6 tables though it seems larger than that. It's beautifully decorated and a couple of TV screens display videos of Ethiopia and its incredibly rich culture, countryside and architecture if you're not familiar with its unique identity and history. And as for the food well I will admit I have only ever had Ethiopian food a couple of times before, both many years ago. So naturally I was very interested to learn about this place opening here. The menu has a lot of choices, about half of them vegetarian, but we were basically ordering blind, going purely on the descriptions and the very friendly server's suggestions. And the food was amazing. I honestly couldn't identify what was what but the server pointed out the various things we'd ordered and it all clicked. So amazingly flavorful and distinct and so different to all the Italian / Chinese / Thai / Latin food we probably all consume in an average NYC week. So I'll wrap this up by saying if you want a really fun and interesting and very satisfying meal that takes you out of your comfort zone of tastes, you really should come here and be amazed. We will absolutely be back!

This is my second time trying Ethiopian food. It was a good experience. The food was tasty. I'm looking forward to expanding my palate and trying new foods.
