"Some come here just for the cheese, great pillars of blue and Kangaroo Island creamy sheep’s, sampling washed rinds and goat’s curd and packing cooler bags to go. Others come from breakfast, Spanish tortilla with avocado, morcilla, smashed eggs, and an excellent jamon and manchego toasted sandwich at Comida Catering. More than a million visitors stream through Adelaide Central Markets - one of the largest undercover produce markets in Australia - each month. There are oysters and organic fruit and vegetables, indigenous bush tucker and culinary highlights from the Barossa Valley and nearby Kangaroo Island. Nearby Market St Coffee makes a great caffeine brew. This place is on every travelling gastronome’s must-do list."

Always such a fun experience visiting the market! One of our favourite things to do with our son in the school holidays. So many different foods to try and goodies to buy. The Pizza’s at Atlas Continental are amazing! And would definitely visit just to eat them!

Great place to visit if you want to buy $140/kg gourmet salt, rather than $2 kg normal salt from woolworths. Lots of overpriced fruit shops, fish/meat, some bakeries, flowers and gourmet stuffs... Did I mention, overpriced?

Google
A little bit chaotic but you will find some gems in here - like giant woks of paella, delicious single slice pizza, and caramel slice that is literally the size of a doorstop. I was on a holiday so didn't check out the fresh produce, but they seemed to have a nice selection of seafood and fruit. I visited a few times mainly to eat some pizza as an easy on the go meal! Definitely add it on to your itinerary for your next Adelaide trip (even if you're on a business trip - very easy dinner here!).

Adelaide Central Market is a great place to visit, especially on weekends. The fruits here are big, sweet, and reasonably priced. You can grab a box of fresh berries or juicy peaches for a fraction of the price you’d pay elsewhere. What makes it even better is the variety. From fresh produce to ready-to-eat meals, this market has it all. There’s even a food court area where you can sit down and enjoy some delicious dishes. If you’re in Adelaide, spending a morning here is a must. The vibrant atmosphere, the smell of fresh food, and the friendly vendors make it a really fun experience.

A treasure of the city. An amazing place to shop and eat. Very clean and well presented and the produce is delicious. Could spend a whole day there just trying different things. Loved it

Yelp
The Adelaide Central Market is a time piece to be cherished, as are the family genes that seem to keep pumping through them. Generations of venerated blood still flowing through some stalls, and it shows. Passion, pride, excellence. Purpose. As a whole, the Adelaide Central Markets is a medley of history and taste, family and choice. For me it is a "Wow!" This was also my second visit in a year. Not everything is a gold star here, but most things are. With trepidation and excitement, explore with my blessing. I have also reviewed individual stalls here too. Like a kid in a candy shop, I go crazy in this place

Yelp
A great market offering foods of every kind in a festive atmosphere teeming with sights, sounds and scrumptious smells. Closed Sundays and Mondays and open until around 3 the other days. You will find lots of fruits and veggies, meats and a wide variety of cheeses, nuts, baked goods, honey, sweets and more. It is quite easy to concoct a lavish picnic lunch from all the stalls. In addition, many of the stalls are providing samples so you can taste your way around the market. A great market if you are hungry.

Yelp
Only four star because not enough organic produce! But otherwise a brilliant selection of all food stuffs under one roof! Plenty of lunch options too so you don't get bored! Free car parking if you get it all in in under one hour! Awesome shopping

Yelp
The Adelaide Central Market is by far my favourite place in Adelaide. It it is my favourite place for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it reminds me of my childhood. I was often taken to the Markets as a child by my parents and Grandmother. Every time I walk into the markets it reminds me of prepping for big meals and festivities during the holiday seasons. Often, we were given bits of fruit and ham by the store owners. Who doesn't love a free treat? Even when you are young you love it! I still see store owners giving children treats today. As I have grown older I appreciate it on a different level. I now understand that the Adelaide Central Market offers a wide variety of fresh local and imported produce that will suit any and all cuisines. If you need an ingredient of some sort, you will find it here. Never be afraid to ask a store owner as well, they are all friends and often refer to each other. It's like one big happy family there! The Markets are closed on Mondays & Sundays. Sometimes traders will be closed on other days as well. Be sure to check out the website before you go in if you are unfamiliar. The best days to go are on Friday evenings & Saturday around mid-day. These are busy days, so be prepared to wait for a car park upstairs. But, Saturday is definitely worth battling the crowd. You will pick up bargains from around 1pm - 3pm. The store owners sell off stock cheap as the Market is closed for two following days. As for my fave stores, well... I love Barossa Fine Foods, The Mushroom Man, Standoms, MCMahons Greengrocer & Kim Wangs! I generally visit them once a week.

Yelp
Well, there are some of us that do all of our shopping at the local supermarket, and some of us that go out on a limb and do all of our shopping at the markets. I have to admit that I tend to be of the first variety, since I tend to want to spend as short a time as possible doing my weekly shopping. However you simply can't beat the farmer's market for style, and the Central Markets are the largest in Adelaide. Mind you, they aren't always open, but if you do go down on the days that it is you simply cannot beat the atmosphere of the place. One cool thing I found here once was a butcher that sold exotic meat, which is something you won't find in your local supermarket.

Yelp
A great place to take tourists! I took my great aunt from Canada here on a Saturday morning in the middle of the Fringe Festival - what an absolute hub of atmosphere. We stopped by Global World where she bought some really unique Adelaide made and designed haram style pants for the family back in Canada. After wandering amongst the different style food stores ranging from organic fruits, lovely smelling coffee beans, delicious cheeses and a classic Lolly shop - not to mention multiple cafes, bakeries and a pop up book store; we bought some smoked trout from a South Australian trout farm stall and some potato and rosemary bread from a bakery (amongst much more food than we could ever eat. Our glass of wine that evening was paired with the sumptuous taste of the vacuum packed trout and aromatic bread. Definitely an experience for anyone who loves their foods, a bit of hubbub and the smells and sounds so classic to a market including the freshly baked breads and the sounds of fruit vendors calling out their wares - not to mention multiple people out for a bit of atmosphere and a good bargain.

Yelp
My favourite dumpling eatery. They always taste fresh and are made on site. I really enjoy the dumplings on a plate of the dumpling vegetable soup. If you have a sweet tooth you also can't go past their crepes.

Yelp
Whenever I mention that I frequently visit the central market I am always astounded to hear the same comment from people... "I don't go there much/at all. It's too much effort". Personally, I think this is lazy/crazy/stupid and try to get whoever I'm talking with to go there and give the markets a second chance. Going to the markets is in my family. My Mum and brothers and sister all love the markets and I sometimes bump into them there or meet up intentionally for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The stand out feature of the markets for me is all the food choices you have there. Not just stalls (I'll get to that) but also the café's, restaurants, and even some food stall in the food courts. If you have $5 or $10 for lunch or want to splash out a bit on a nice dinner, the markets has something for everyone and every budget. Starting with breakfast, there's a few main players in my book. The first is The Big Table, a small breakfast/lunch bar that's right in the markets on the gouger st side. This little place has the best brekkies in the markets in my books. Their bread is amazing and always fresh and they know how to cook great eggs any way you ask for them. They also make great coffee. For lunch I usually go to Chinatown café, a cheap but great little café that does Mee Goreng, Laksa or Hainanese Chicken Rice. Their curry chicken is also good and all meals will be on your table in 5-10 minutes from when you order and will be under $10. Across the road, down Field St you have Thanh Thanh for great Vietnamese Beef Noodle soup or Wasai for sushi and other Japanese food. Market St also has a great little café (called market st) for awesome breakfasts and coffee, and Compton st has Bliss organic café for something veggie if that's what you want. Also on Gouger St, there are restaurants galore. My favourites are Go-In Hot Pot -for hot pot, BBQ City - for duck, Ding Hao (dumplings and yum cha). East Taste -great BBC and salt and pepper tofu; Fortune Duck and Ying Chow are also favourites of many people who visit the markets. For shopping, I have a lot of experience at the markets. I think I have shopped there for my weekly food over 100 times. Probably close to 200. If you want bread, Scala bakery in the market arcade have great ciabatta, San Francisco sourdough, Rye and Olive Cobs. They have a huge range of breads and a story behind each one. For cheese we visit say cheese in the middle near the escalators and opposite that get our fruit and veg from McMahons. There's good reason these guys have earned the middle of the market position. We visit Poultry cuisine for good quality chicken and free range eggs, Jagger for dips and olives; the mushroom man for our mushrooms; and Angelakis Bro's for fish. House of Health is great for soaps, honey and healthy snacks, as is goodies and grains - which also make a killer green juice for after those difficult super early Saturday morning market sessions. For meat we visit a few places. Standom's for cold meats and sausages (the Mexican chilli bratwurst are amazing) and Marino meat and food store for great steaks. There's also a great butcher AGA meats in the arcade near Skala bakery where you can buy bulk scotch fillet for $10 a kilo. Kim Wang supermarkets is the one stop shop for everything Asian. They have Korean kimchi, Laksa ingredients, frozen dumplings, Japanese teriyaki and tempura and a whole range of sauces, oils, condiments and Asian veggies. They also have snacks with amusing names like "cream collon" and "shrimp flavoured crack" that I always want to buy until I read the crazy ingredients. There are so many more shops at the markets. I have just listed our favorites, but there are always new shops opening and being refurbished. I miss the Moroccan guy with his harissa, tagines and preserved lemons, but there are a few new places that have just opened that I'm going to take time to visit. I think everyone in Adelaide should have to visit the central market at least twice a year or get kicked out of the state. It's just too good to ignore.

Yelp
No visit to Adelaide is complete without checking out the Central Market. We don't have this sort of thing from my neck of the woods and I love how everything is under one roof! It also has the best prices and assortment of Australian souvenirs. Yes, even those obnoxious cork hats. You can get fruits and veggies, cheeses, olives, pastries, coffee -- I even stocked up on tea tree oil here. They have a good selection of fresh flowers and I even bought my wedding bouquet here, a bunch of bright pink roses. Parking is convenient with the parking garage right next to it too. Oh, you can also find lamb gyros too https://s3-media3.ak.yelpcdn.com/photo/ZlyGxFkYQu-xIYAokQn3Uw/l.jpg. (Where I'm from "lamb spit" would be considered to be the saliva of young sheep.) Even though spouse is sick of this place, I always make sure to come here - it's lively, interesting and you'll find something that you didn't realize you needed!

Yelp
This little piggy is always going to the market and excitedly whee whee wheeing all the way home with newly discovered gourmet goods or exotic fruits and veg every weekend. Being a CBD local of Adelaide I can't get enough of the Central Market as place which highlights the amazing selection of fresh local fruit, veg and produce that we have growing and being produced in our wonderful state of SA. This place is one of Adelaide's best and has been around since day dot in Adelaide. Lucia's (one of it's best known landmarks) is the oldest restaurant in Adelaide and hasn't moved since the founding of the market. This place has everything you need rolled into one, whether it be your weekly food shop or for a special Masterchef creation you plan on whipping up for your friends. From bread shops to cheese shops, From Con the Fruiterers to Coles' Curtis Stone, You'll always recognise the faces that have been there through the ages. From Asian grocers to Morrocan Cous Couserers, From cheese shops and olive shops to unidentified meat shops, The diversity of this place is in your face! Be warned though... because this place is so incredibly wonderful it can sometimes be a tad busy. And by busy I mean hectic... And by hectic I mean you could loose your child in the crowd. So if you don't like the hustle and bustle that a good market should have avoid Friday nights 6-8pm and Saturdays between 12pm - 2pm (when they sell off all fruit and veg for the week).

Yelp
My favourite truly Adelaide experience - I love this place. What better way to start your weekend than a visit to the Adelaide Central Market. First the tantalising smells assail you from the arcade or car park - spices, fragrantly indefinable Chinese cooking, ripe fruit, coffee to get you in the mood for food shopping which is never a chore. A Friday night market visit immediately relieves me of the week's workday worries and before I know it I am starving and smiling. You only have to look around you at shoppers from every country of the world to know that this is the best of who we are - right here in heart of our wonderful city. Do we Adelaideans realise how extraordinarily lucky we are to have this market literally in the heart of our city? No other major Australian city market can compare. Make this a food experiential occasion instead of an occasional experience and let each week's seasonal produce determine your upcoming culinary menus. Or go out on a limb and hit the market after 1.00pm on Saturday and take pot luck with the $1 and $2 bags - with a little bit of imagination and creativity you will eat like a king or queen for days. I defy anyone who says you can't eat healthy on a budget to shop here at 2.00pm on Saturday. I'm sure we all have our favourite stalls for cheese, coffee, smallgoods, meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, bread, olives, pasta, nuts, chocolate, lollies, health foods, honey, eating etc etc. All stall owners are passionate about what they do, source and sell -it's inspiring. Hey you can buy absolutely everything here on your weekly shopping list - you don't need to go anywhere else. Don't save a visit until your next interstate or overseas guests stay - go today - now, right now. Just eat it!!

Yelp
Actual epitome of what produce and specialty foods should look like. I am an American and I say the food here is HUGE. I've never seen bigger melons or smelled stinkier cheeses (in a really good way) and seen so many colorful fruits. Australian produce is the BEST and I wish I could live here just so I could buy food from here every week. Also, this is the cleanest market I've ever seen. No other farmer's market or grocery can even come close to the quality and cleanliness of the food here. Not to mention, every produce you can imagine you can get here at a fair price. Highly recommend for any tourist who's visiting South Australia. Don't limit yourself to just the fruit, get the meats, cheeses, and other speciality foods you can get your hands on, too!
google avatar

Sammi J.

Yelp
The Adelaide Central Markets make me proud to be South Australian. So many wonderful, local, delicious, divine and creative products all under one roof. There is always something new to discover and enjoy, no matter how often you visit. Beautiful produce for "make at home" and so many homemade style "take away" options to choose from. There is high end and there is budget. Whatever your eating and drinking need,s you can get it here.

Yelp
Great place to shop for ingredients as a cook, and really fun place to eat! Lots of fun. DOn't miss sampling the cheese at the cheese shop!

Yelp
Great place for a veggie shop To keep it short and sweet free parking under an hour, and a week of veggies for ~$30 is a rock solid deal. Stall 69, aubergines and Michaels are some of the good stalls with consistent good products all fresh. I get from here fortnightly and its always fresh and lasts 2-3 weeks (only lasts this long if i loose it in the fridge) coles you will need to use in a few days its great stuff

Yelp
Spoilt for choice! Wow I love Adelaide Market, the range of fresh food products available is amazing especially as we spend so much time in the "bush"! The stalls generally have friendly and helpful staff. The restaurants cafes etc are really good. Parking on site under an hour is free. I love it!

Yelp
Located in the heart of the city, Adelaide Central Markets are a unique and wonderful thing. Full of fresh produce stores, butchers, bakers, small restaurants and cafes, fishmongers, florists, gourmet foods and plenty of lettuce leaves on the ground - the Markets are a feast for your senses. I often wander in, look around for ages, grab my self some lunch at Lucia's or Asian Gourmet, taste test a chocolate coated coffee bean, give myself a shot of melted chocolate and then start buying my fresh groceries for the week. The only problem with this place is its overwhelming options of which vendor to choose from. This also means cheap cheap prices as they are all competing with one another. Not only fresh produce and things for your weekly shop - if you're looking for something to impress guests at a dinner party, the markets have wonderful gourmet ideas for dips, desserts and cheese platters. A wonderful way to support SA whilst enjoying wonderful multiculturalism.
google avatar

Yelp
There's nothing quite like the Central Market. It's the smells of spices, cooking food, and fresh breads, or the free tastings and exotic fruits that all help make this one of Adelaide's best attractions. I come here so often, even when I'm just browsing, because I just love seeing what there is to often. Often I'll come home with a small bag filled with goodies from the Asian grocers, some tasty cheeses, bagels, or even some exotic fruit. I do get a little overwhelmed at times, there is just so much stuff, and I don't know which store I should be buying from or where I'll get the best deal. Saying this, there are market tours that give you a detailed look at the markets, I just haven't tried one yet.

Yelp
Adelaide's Central Market is one of a kind. It has an intimate feeling, housed in an enormous warehouse, and the food here is fantastic. I come here for two reasons - fresh produce, and immediate gratification. My favourite shop is "Dough..." as their pastries are delicious, especially the pear and apple danishes, which are made in the shape of the fruit. Next door to "Dough..." is "Say Cheese", which on a Saturday will be doing free tastings. The girl doling out the cheese is friendly and more than happy to let you try everything... which I invariably do. It's a great way to get to know what they sell and to try cheeses you may not have otherwise tasted. For Brunch, Zuma's is a great spot. They do delicious all day breakfasts, and a good coffee. The beauty of this place is that you really can't go wrong. Anywhere you buy it, the food will be delicious and good quality, as it has to be to match the nearby competition. I particularly recommend Tuesday afternoons, as all the fruit and veg will be heavily discounted. Go at around 4pm and everything will be disappearing fast. The same happens around closing time on Saturday, since the markets will be shut for two days, however at this time it gets completely crazy.

Yelp
The most incredible place in Adelaide (Yep I said it). The biggest produce market in Southern Hemisphere. Always filled with friendly people who love food. I wish I lived closer to do grocery shopping here. Free tastings (cheese!), high quality and often cheap fruit and veg, excellent selection of speciality stalls (a shop that only sells mushrooms-amazing), and litttle cafes to stop and eat your goodies. 'Shouty Hour' is my favourite time. Make sure u visit the Central Market the last few hours before they close before Christmas, Easter and other long breaks. Bargains, bargains, bargains!
google avatar

Trent D.

Yelp
The Central Market is undoubtedly the best place to go for the freshest fruits, the finest cheeses, the richest chocolates and the most premium meats in Adelaide. There's an enormous variety of fresh produce and fine goods on offer in this monstrous warehouse, and the vendors are all exciting in their own way. Whether it be the friendly chocolatiers or the loud and boisterous green grocers, you're bound to have a good time and catch a bargain. Supermarkets are awfully clinical, and the Central Markets takes the experience back to the good old days, when people had to pressure you into buying their goods! I have conflicted feelings whenever I come to the markets. It has a wonderful atmosphere, and the sights, smells and sounds are inviting to the senses - especially the sounds! Hearing a man yell at you to buy his pineapples, only to be screamed at by another to check out his melons, is both hilarious and intimidating. On the flip side, the number of people that cram themselves in here can make things very uncomfortable. Claustrophobes beware, this could be a frightening experience for you.
google avatar

Eric N.

Yelp
Always a great atmosphere, sheltered from the weather and what a treasure trove it is. I can always depend on the central market for great prices on meat, fruit and veg. So accessible to Adelaideans, it's a wonder how the big supermarkets get business still!! This is a great place to take visitors because there's something for everyone. Coffee, wine, gourmet small goods and many more fantastic nibbles - you'll find something for you!
google avatar

Yelp
Adelaide Central Market is very much the heart and soul-food stop for anyone visiting the city; often a too-rare treat for the locals. Everyone enjoys the theatre of a market place and this one is overloaded with character and journeys for the senses. You can glimpse everything from true local colour through to celebrities stopping by, even better, celebrity chefs are often on the prowl and the keen eye can slip in and see what produce they are buying. Fruit and veg is covered completely. There are organic foods, whole foods, Asian foods, locally produced product and cafes aplenty. Experience some of the most entertaining moments later in the day when the stall holders start to pitch their final offers for the day. Grab a bargain, grab a feed. Close to all public transports and not too far for free atmospheric fun.
google avatar

Jenny L.

Yelp
I love coming to the markets! If you like food, there is nothing not to love! There are a variety of new "ready to eat" places that keep popping up that make this a great place to meet friends for a meal or a coffee. If you want to get something to make at home, the markets have EVERYTHING! Fruit, veg, smallgoods, cheeses, grains, legumes - if you can't find it here I doubt you should be eating it! Quality of produce is always fantastic - ranging from organic and premium goods to discount produce for stews etc. Everyone should go there!
google avatar

Dylan J.

Yelp
my Favorite place in Adelaide! I attempt to visit Central Market any chance I get, nothing like a Friday night at the Central market. The atmosphere is amazing and nothing else in Adelaide compares to it. The large crowds, the grocers shouting out the nights deals, the history and of course the smell of food. If you are a foodie this market is a must. The range and quality of fresh produce is astounding and must I mention they have free tastings! prepare your wallet because you are likely to leave spending more than you planned. Make sure you get in early to get your hands on the freshest produce and may I recommend the wild game meats such as crocodile, emu or goat for a different experience.

Yelp
I'm probably there about once a week at Adelaide Central Market. Such history, such a divine place to shop for fresh groceries, such a warming and loud atmosphere with an incredible diverse of people. I'm sure if you are here, you will bump into someone your know or you will end up buying something. If I lived in the city, I'll probably eat here everyday if I could. It's fresh and cheap to get a meal here too. Car parking is a breeze here, plenty of street parking on grote or gouger or the side streets, but if you like to pay for car parking, there are plenty of car parks such as U-Park. If you plan to grocery shop, probably bring your own trolley to lug around or backpack to carry your stuff around, if you plan to shop big. There are plenty of free tastings in some of the stalls such as cheese, fruit and vegetables, pastries and bread. It's great to come by a couple of hours before closing time as many of the produce go on sale as the stall holders/sales people want to get rid of their old stock. But if you want to buy the fresh produce, come in early to grab the exotic meats, such as the fresh, smoked and packaged seafood, wild game meats like kangaroo meat, emu, buffalo, crocodile, wild goat and duck. Or if you want to support the SA employment industry, you can buy local meat produce Coorong Augus beef, Wagyu Australian Grown Beef, Barossa farm chickens, ducks, geese and game birds. If your are into pasta, you can purchase Italian pastas, olive oils, vinegars, sauces, spreads and condiments, and cooking equipment. There is a wide selection of local, interstate and imported cheese, local pates, dips and free range eggs, breads, caramelised figs, local fruit pastes and fresh made chutneys too. Thumbs up! If you are planning to stroll through or a quick break from the shopping, there are a variety of cafes to sit and have a meal and drink. You can grab a slice of pizza, or you could end up eating sushi or laska and if that is not enough to fill your belly, there is plenty of sweet baked treats and chocolates around. I was really amazed of how Adelaide Central Market has grown over the years and the variety of produce and food they sell to keep up with the customer's demands. I remember buying these chicken, spinach and pine nut gourmet sausages, these were absolutely amazing to eat. There are plenty of stalls and shops that cater to organic, vegan and gluten free items too and the best part, it's part of Chinatown, so you can wander through to check out the restaurants for yumcha or food court. Overall, this is a must stop to see if you are visitor to Adelaide or if you are local then regular visits are a must. Thumbs up!

Yelp
The Adelaide Central Market houses some of the freshest produce within the Adelaide Metropolitan. Apart from fruit and vegetables, they also have a great range of gourmet and exotic foods, with everything from cheeses to breads to nuts and legumes. At the heart of the Adelaide CBD, it is hard to miss this very busy marketplace. While parking may be a hassle, there is certainly a great variety on offer and you can spend hours going down the aisles, finding all kinds of produce. The food is amazing as it is packed with flavour and is unlike anything you can get from your typical supermarket store. Almost all of the produce is South Australian grown too, so spending that little bit extra than you normally would at one of the big supermarket chains, not only allows for tastier goods, but also supports the economy. As i live quite far away, coming here is a treat, however when I do go here, I always end up with a lot more than what I anticipated to get (not that there is anything wrong with that mind you). What ever you do, try and go during the week, as weekends can be incredibly busy - almost to the point where it can be painful to get everything done. *With this in mind, a lot of produce is reduced on the weekend, so if you can brace the crowds, you may save yourself a couple of dollars. With hundreds of vendors, Central market caters for everyone. What is impressive though is the fact that it caters for everyone very well. If you have never been, make an afternoon out of it, because there is so much to explore, sample and buy!

Yelp
I always recommend that tourists to Adelaide visit the central markets- there is so much great variety, a fun experience and so so much delicious food in close proximity! I always find myself spending more than I should here as I am assaulted (in a good way) by delicious tastes and smells from all around. I love the vibrancy and energy at the central market- it really reminds me that our city truly is a lively place! The fresh fruit and veg is great but I do truly like the variety in that regardless of what cuisine you are hoping to cook, you can without a doubt find the ingredients here!

Yelp
Ok, so it has been a few years since I visited the ACM, but that is only because it has also been a few years since I even lived near the place - two flights away in fact - now, despite moving O/S I am only one flight away, go figure... This market really is awesome, it has such a large stock or fruit, vegies, spices, herbs, butchery, seafood, gourmet cheese and artisan bread; it is the largest undercover market in Australia in fact. I actually use to work there in one of the bakeries and never have I come across such fresh (and cheap) baked goods since then. Oh, there are also some great florists! Good variety and prices. If it is still the same as I suspect it would be, go for the bargains at the close of business, particularly Sat afternoons, the fun isn't just in getting a great bargain but also the hustle and bustle of crazy loud activity, so much fun!

Yelp
I cant fault this place! It is the real deal and epitomizes what a market is supposed to be! Its a real "markets market". Its dark, exciting, bustling, messy, a bit run down and has soul and a great feel! I love how there are fruit shops, meat shops, cheese shops, little cafes, clothing shops etc all jumbled up together - its not clinical and sanitized like some markets in big cities are. It still feels like a market for the people! I only got to spend an hour here as it was late in the day, but I wish Id come 2 hours earlier and spent the whole afternoon. Ive been here before and I knew it was good, but this time I really really enjoyed it a lot more! Actually last time I was here was about 5 years ago in summer and I bought the ingredients to cook a really delicious seafood pie! It turned out to be a wonderful meal and really impressed the inlaws! This time we just got some salami and cheese for the long drive back to Melbourne... It was the first time Id taken the kids here though and they loved it - and had lots of room in the aisles to run and jump and wrestle eachother to the ground and practice their tackling... I was also really impressed that one of the shopkeepers gave them a mini babybell cheese each! That left a really nice impression. Cant wait to come back here!!!

Yelp
Central Market is famous because it is exceptional. There are some terrific markets around the world but even the most seasoned foodie traveller falls in love with Adelaide's Central Market. It is a cosmopolitan heaven with a long history. It has nurtured a city's emerging food and market gardening culture from earliest days, mirroring the migrant changes. And it is all still there - as it continues to move with the times. Tradition beside fashion trends. It is all about fresh produce, the beautifully-racked displays of fruit and vegetables a panoply of colour down the aisles. They come with the fragrances of the season and the voices of sellers, calling down prices or touting specials. From the Barossa Valley and the Fleurieu Peninsula, the cheeses and wursts, pickles and dips are delivered and arrayed in stalls - a riot of choice. From the culinary cultures of the world, goodies are laid out for tasting and purchase. Exotica, such as Buddha's Hands and tree fungus, fresh herbs, crocodile meat, rare teas and a zillion sorts of coffee are on sale. There's the seafood wealth of the local waters as well as patisserie delights and Asian vegetables and spices. And, around the perimeter of the vast, covered market, are eateries - glorious Laksas and Malaysian foods, renown Italian cuisine... Adjacent are the Chinatown food courts and yet more extensive Asian offerings... Central Market is both a wonderland and a community. It is mirror to the sweet city of Adelaide and an adventure on every visit.

Yelp
One of my favourite places in Adelaide, and the top of my 'What you should do while you're in Adelaide' list for visitors. The atmosphere, the colours, and the smells make this a hugely sensory shopping experience. Top tips: - Broken Belgian chocolate crackle pieces from Providore, cheaper than buying an actual crackle and they taste exactly the same. - Breakfast at the Big Table, an often overlooked Adelaide institution. Get the breakfast BLT with garlic aioli or the Green Eggs & Ham (the salads from here are also killer). - For greens, head to the small Asian grocery running along the Eastern wall, always cheaper than anywhere else. - The haloumi & jalapeno bread from Wild Loaf. If you run through right before closing, they have usually marked down their bread. - Again, 4:30 onwards on a weekday (except Friday nights, which is my favourite time to go) is a great time to pick up a bargain. Wander through the very centre of the markets near the escalators to see stallholders hawking their fare for a very cheap price.

Yelp
I'm lucky to be a city dweller as the Adelaide Central Markets is my "supermarket". The Adelaide Central Markets is for everybody: tourists to lunchers to the after-work-on-Friday-slash-Saturday-morning weekly shopper. Buy your hommus and sun dried tomatoes from Atlas Continental Cafè. In summer, buy your roma tomatoes from House of Organics. Get a coffee, mid-shop, from Big Table. Get your almonds from The Adelaide Nut. ++++ VEGAN FRIENDLINESS -- The Adelaide Central Markets is officially--that's right, you heard it here first--a vegans idea of heaven.

Yelp
It's a great place to go to. There's free samples, fresh produce and candy stores. If you love food then the central market is the place to go. However, it does get crowded so if you plan on taking your kids then try going on a day when it's not busy. There's a car park located above then central market which is great because you don't have to walk far to reach your destination. I must warn though, on the rare occasion the car park may be full. I myself have not experienced this but apparently it has happened. Basically, if you're a foodie, you'll love this place.

Yelp
How can anyone not love the Adelaide Central Market? How can you not when you are surrounded by all that fresh produce? And the cheese, don't get me started on all the cheese! For good bargains it's good to get there at around 1pm -2pm on a Saturday as the market is closed on Sundays and Mondays so many vendors are trying to sell of stock. It is incredibly busy at that time, but if crowds don't bother you then go for it. If you are an early riser, head down at opening and try out many of the cafes and stalls for breakfast. My personal favourite is Zuma Caffe. Yum food and they make a mean latte, There are always good meat specials to be found at Connells at the Grote St entrance, and make sure you do shop around a bit, there is plenty of competition so you can always grab a bargain somewhere. And did I mention variety?? Want asian greens? Done. Want a mushroom mix or fresh truffles? Done. Want to make your own coffee blend? Done. If you haven't been, you don't know what you are missing.

Yelp
The Adelaide Central Market will always be in my heart. The sights and the smells are like home to me. Unfortunately, it's not that good for my wallet. Even though it is reasonably cheap on most things, there is just way too much yummy food that I can't resist. The fruit. The cakes. The smallgoods. The dips. The cheeses... Who can resist them all?!

Yelp
What on earth can I say about a place I go to every week to do my grocery shopping which also doubles as one of Adelaide's great tourist attractions? And, how on earth my supposed to review it? The Central Market is so unique and so stupendous it's difficult to know where to start. Shopping wise, I do all of my grocery shopping here and flit between all the stalls so I get the best fruit, veg and meat. Come here often enough and you'll soon learn who has the best tomatoes, where the cheapest (but still best) lettuce is and which butchers are best for which cuts of meat. The Central Market's stalls all stock fresh and local, you'll be amazed to see just how long your fruit and veg lasts and how much cheaper it is! I've become so dependant to the beautiful market that my wallet and thrifty sensibilities are horrified at the price of meat and food in general at the supermarket. The market is also great for just the quick visit, filled with cafes and lunch spots and topped off with some intriguing shopping stalls, the market is great for visitors.

Yelp
I love my city! I am pretty passionate about our food too. I am forever raving on to friends near and far how good Adelaide Central Market is, that chefs all over say it's up there with one of the best around the world. Damn straight it is! I could go on and on about what the market offers you but pretty much all the other reviews have covered all bases. I think you just need to get in there to see for yourself. The smells of the market always makes me salivate. Be prepared to spend more than you may initially budget for, I always do end up coming out with a lot more than I anticipated. It can get very busy, so be prepared to go down the aisles, elbows up. I am serious, you are going to get knocked about if you go on one of the crazy market days. My highlights in the market? House of Health - a health food store, more often than not cheaper than Goodies and Grains although smaller in comparison. Lucias - Pasta, coffee....need I say more? Providore - chocolate fondue fountain...again, need I say more?

Yelp
The fact that this is on the 'To Do' list of every tourist that comes to Adelaide and on the 'To Take To' list of every Adelaidean showing a tourist around says a lot. Cultural experience, fresh produce mecca, Asian centre of town - the Central Markets continue to prove that you don't need to be 'shiny and new' to be a favourite among many. A new CEO seems focused upon continuous improvement (rather than out with the old, in with the new) and changes such as a new indoor vertical garden (insert shameless plug for The Productive Garden Co.), graffiti art, wine tastings and re-purposing of vacant stalls in between leases with concepts such as Reverse BYO (http://www.yelp.com.au/events/adelaide-reverse-byo-at-the-adelaide-central-markets) all make for an enhanced experience. Favourites: Piroshki from Taldy-Kurgan Arborio Rice from San Jose Flowers from Central Market Flowers ANYTHING from The Old Lolly Shop Go when you next can!

Yelp
I visit here everytime I come to Adelaide. It had everything I want in a market experience and I since i visit them all over the world, when I say this is one of my favourites, they are doing something right! Were you after fruit and veg, gourmet delights, tea, coffee, kitchenware? All of this and more is found in this central location. You have a different experience each time you come, and I cant recommend it highly enough to all my friends. If I lived in Adelaide, id doas much of my shopping here as possible!

Yelp
Adelaide Central Market is a very under utilized collection of produce and fine goods that i feel is over looked by the majority of people living here. The quality is second to none, It isnt "too expensive". The only downside is that during the week at lunchtimes and after work it is very very busy. Fantastic place to shop, Very lucky to have this place in Adelaide.

Yelp
Being a parent of 3 kids, i enjoy shopping here. There are samples along the way to keep the kids quiet and even the butcher are happy to hand out a slice of meat. During the school holidays there is always activities for the kiddos to do, most are free or at a small price. I always seem to get a hell of a lot more food here for my money than what i would at the local shops. Easy to get to from the city, just hop on a tram, and if you happen to go past it (as trams can get busy and you just loose focus) the next tram stop isnt that far for you to walk back.

Yelp
Our Friday evening visit was the second visit we have made since moving to Adelaide. Friendly and extremely helpful merchants, but don't expect fast service! People take their time with each customer and sometimes this causes longer than necessary delays.

Yelp
Saturdays are great love the fresh fruit and veg stalls - so much to choose from and so fresh. Particularly like picking up a bargain near the end of trading. Coffee, coffee, coffee, love the smell of it and the taste doesn't disappoint. Sundays can't help dropping in to the food court for a curry, or a laksa, some yum cha, or whatever my heart no my stomach yearns for. Have been going for more years than I choose to confess to and I have never been disappointed. Love the family family atmosphere of the food court. If you are looking for silver service restaurant not the place but if you are looking for honest, good quality and well priced food than I recommend you to try it out.

Yelp
What a great little market place where all your fruit and veg needs are accomplished. With many stalls to choice from and several organic little stores too. With cafes, juice bars and eateries surrounding the market you'll never starve or go thirsty. With a friendly atmosphere and happy smiling faces around every corner!! This will be my new supermarket!! :)

Yelp
I had a lovely time on this tour. Clarisse did a great job taking us to many vendors, with an interesting array of samples and stories. I learned to look at this market with new eyes!

Yelp
You really can't beat the market... fruit and veg; gourmet food; meats and fish; Chinatown and coffee... My only concern is that interference by ACC will mess it up. KISS is the way to manage and promote it!

Yelp
This is the best produce market I have been to anywhere. And have travelled the world. It's clean and friendly. Has a massive variety of foods from ordinary to exotic.
