"Chestnut Hill has beautiful gardens, a handful of breweries, and a couple of great brunch spots with gorgeous outdoor setups. But what the area has really been missing is a legitimate, sit-down Italian restaurant. All signs pointed to Adelinas filling this void when they opened in 2022. Unfortunately, while the upscale atmosphere has all the looks of an ideal night date or celebratory spot, most of the food is just OK and you should only stop by if you’re in the area. There’s some real charm at Adelinas. When you walk in, you’ll see chandeliers and gold fixtures at the bar, wood furnishing in the dining room, and a massive garden wall. They also have a long bar where you can waste time talking to strangers who walked in after having a drink at Chestnut Hill Brewery and wanted something more to eat than a burger and pizza. On their busiest nights, the dining room gets loud and you’ll probably see waiters whipping through the space with bottles of Italian reds, lasagna with smoked scamorza, and plates of chicken parmesan. photo credit: Adelinas Most of the menu, besides a few small plates and the dessert, doesn’t hold up to the better Italian spots in town. The handmade pastas here are rarely ever satisfying, whether it’s the aforementioned lasagna with a bland combo of asparagus and zucchini to gigli toscani topped with a flavorless rabbit ragu. The only path to a meal that makes sense is starting with the meatballs that are oozing with pecorino and the ‘nduja mussels that have a broth so good that you’ll ask for extra bread to sop it up. Close it out with an order of their perfectly charred scallops and some cheesecake and forget the rest of the menu. Adelina’s fancy interiors could theoretically work for birthdays, anniversaries, and a date night in Chesnut Hill. But similar to other big-budget projects with no payoff, like the past few Transformers movies or Paris Hilton’s music career, Adelina’s just doesn’t live up to its potential. Food Rundown photo credit: Adelinas Meatballs The meatballs here combine bits of veal, pork, sausage, and beef, and once you bite into one, pecorino al tartufo bursts from its seams. You can ignore the polenta cake the meatballs come with and go right for the meaty mounds. Octopus The chewy grilled octopus comes topped with a fava bean puree, lemon, and Calabrian chili. Somehow, even with all those ingredients, the dish lacks flavor or spice, so you can skip it. Nduja Mussels The mussels are beautifully cooked. They sit in a broth with the perfect balance of garlic and Calabrian chili, making this the best small plate on the menu—and one of the few things that we’d specifically come back for. Agnolotti These agnolotti pouches are really massive, but the sugary fig and onion filling just doesn’t work. Even the gorgonzola cream can’t save this dish. Gigli Toscani The spicy ragu in this pasta dish leaves a lot to be desired and tastes like something you can buy in the can at the grocery store. Skip this. Seared Scallops These scallops are big, juicy, and perfectly cooked. We could, however, do without the potato wedges and pickled watermelon radish on the plate, and just take four or five more of the golden discs. Chicken Parmesan When this chicken parm comes to your table, it comes drenched in romesco sauce. However, although the crispy edges of the bone-in cut and the bright orange glaze may look appealing, the dish still ends up being pretty forgettable. Marscarpone Cheesecake This homemade cheesecake is the best thing here. We know it’s cliche to say something is so good that it tastes just like your grandmother made it, but that’s actually what’s going on here. The owner’s grandmother is really cranking out cheesecakes in the kitchen. Drenched in a sweet strawberry glaze, this dessert is silky and fluffy, with just the right amount of sweetness." - Candis R. McLean

I recently visited Adelinas Restaurant in Philadelphia for my wife’s birthday dinner, and unfortunately, it didn’t meet expectations. We love Chestnut Hill—it’s a fantastic neighborhood, and we enjoy walking around and trying new places, but this was our first and probably last time at this restaurant. For a $300 meal, only the lamb chop stood out. The rest of the food wasn’t worth the drive, especially the “spicy vegetable,” which I don’t recommend at all. The server was unhelpful and inattentive, not adding anything to the experience. I’ve seen other reviews mentioning similar concerns about the lack of attentive service, and I completely agree—it seems to be an ongoing issue. On the bright side, the hostess, a Black lady at the front, was amazing. Her energy and warm greeting made the experience a bit better, but overall, it wasn’t enough to make up for the lackluster service and food. If you’re looking for a special dining experience, you might want to skip this one. Not the authentic Italian restaurant I was expecting it to be.

It was my first time dining at Adelina’s Italian Restaurant, and it was a fantastic October day that allowed for alfresco dining. We drove by the restaurant and called to see if any reservations were available. Thankfully, it was still happy hour after we found metered parking across the street. We started with the marinated mixed olives and tuna tartare, which were delicious starters. Our light entrees include Caesar salad with salmon and lobster legs, a special for the day. Dessert: Homemade by the owner’s mother. Apple caramel cheesecake, oh my 💃🏾 Excellent service and dining experience Parking: There is metered Street parking and an additional parking lot with Best Parking App available across from Jenks School.

This place is in chestnut Hill, I love the area, it’s perfect for a celebration or date night or girls night out!!! My server was very attentive and friendly, I enjoyed the dark intimate atmosphere here. The food and drinks was DELICIOUS, I’ve never had eggplant Parmesan that was so amazing with the focaccia stuffed bread, it was superb!! I also had the bronzino fried fish, that was tasty too. You must try this place, make your Rsvp now!

Stopped in to experience the Happy Hour because of the mixed reviews, I didn’t want to commit to a reservation! The Happy Hour begins @ 4p! The cocktail offerings are $10 and the beers/wines have a discount of $1-3 dollars off regular price! The food offerings are light fare: bruschetta; flatbread; sliders; fries and lamb lollipops. Those prices ranged from: $7-18 dollars! The lamb was cooked with basil pesto…delightful taste! The bruschetta was fresh and enjoyed the sauce that was drizzled on top! My friend ordered off the dinner menu and had the Linguini and it was ok.. The service was adequate and I experienced what many commented on in their reviews…the noise and chatter isn’t from the patrons it mainly comes from the service staff having ongoing conversations amongst themselves! They are distracted by their personal conversations and become neglectful of the guests they are servicing! The costs are a bit pricey for average Italian food but I know the neighborhood so I guess it works out!

Me and my girlfriend recently visited Adelina’s Italian Restaurant in Chestnut Hill, and it was an unforgettable experience. Chestnut Hill is a charming area with its quaint shops and beautiful tree-lined streets, making it a perfect backdrop for a romantic evening out. Between the excellent wait staff and the wonderfully bubbly hostess we really enjoyed our evening. We started with appetizers, choosing the Clams Casino, Stuffed Focaccia Bread, and Caesar Salad. Each dish was exceptional, showcasing the fresh ingredients and authentic Italian flavors Adelina’s is known for. For our mains, we opted for the Spicy Gnocchi with Burrata and the Dry-Aged Porterhouse for Two. Wanting to mix things up a bit, we paired the spicy gnocchi with a classic martini instead of the recommended white wine, and Tequila Añejo on the rocks with the porterhouse. These unconventional pairings worked surprisingly well, enhancing the flavors of our meal and making our dining experience even more enjoyable. We couldn’t leave without trying the Homemade Oreo Cheesecake, which our waiter mentioned is made by the owner’s mother. Paired with Espresso Gelato and Limoncello, it was the perfect end to a wonderful Italian dinner. Adelina’s Italian Restaurant in Chestnut Hill is a must-visit for anyone looking for an authentic Italian dining experience. The combination of delicious food, excellent service, and the picturesque setting of Chestnut Hill makes it a standout choice for both locals and visitors. We highly recommend it!

We surprised my niece for her 30th birthday at Adelinas! The waiter was awesome and a sport. First off, the best expresso martinis I have ever had. The stuffed foraccia was to die for. Fortunately, we ordered two for the table. The calamari was fresh and delicious as well as the dipping sauce. The breschetta was refreshing. I think I could have just ordered my own plate of each and been extremely happy! For an entree, I had the Fusilini. It was a pasta dish with a garlic sauce with crusted filet bits. I literally needed bread to wipe the plate it was so delicious. We finished it up caramel apple cheesecake and tiramasu. Sam put a candle on one slice of cheesecake and gave me a heads up so I could video the delivery. What an incredible night with my family! I will be visiting Philly again and will have to stop by for another round of deliciousness!

The hostess was super nice and friendly, she was a great welcome to the restaurant. The service was good, our waiter was attentive. I had the chicken and waffles and a side of truffle fries. I could've made the waffle myself at home, it was nothing special but the chicken was seasoned and cooked well. My fries needed more truffle.i would return to try the dinner.
