Adolfo

"This classic restaurant in the heart of Toledo’s historic quarter boasts a delightful patio-cum-dining room dating back to the 12C, and has had a new lease of life under the command of the sons of the owner, the legendary Adolfo Muñoz. The cuisine is centred around a single seasonal tasting menu that has a strong focus on herbs and vegetables from the latter’s own country estate. The cooking here is also healthy, tasty and respectful of tradition, albeit from a more contemporary perspective, and features options such as organic green asparagus from nearby Camuñas, with turmeric and Melanosporum black truffle, and suckling pig served with its own jus and a fruit compote. Why not complete your dining experience with a visit to the superb underground wine cellar!" - Michelin Inspector

My boyfriend and I had the absolute pleasure of eating at Restaurante Adolfo at the end of June this year. This restaurant, the experience, the lovely staff, and the mouthwatering food has been on our minds ever since. We have recommended and will recommend this lovely restaurant to anyone and everyone! We arrived at the restaurant and were greeted by Miguel Angel and Cecilia. Miguel Angel took us on a lovely tour of the wine cellar, gave us the history of it, and the rundown of the architecture. We asked him for advice on a light wine, and he made a selection for us. Although I do not remember what type it was, all I can say is the bottle was empty by the time the two of us finished lunch! After the wine cellar tour, we came back and had the tasting menu, which was Michelin star worthy! Everything was explained by beautiful Cecilia and she truly made our meal feel like a dream! Throughout the meal, we got to chat with Miguel Angel and Cecilia, making us feel like friends. We came for the food, but we left with a whole lot of love for them in our hearts and wanting to come back next time we are in Spain. Miguel Angel & Cecilia, if you see this, know that Daniel and I talk about our experience with you guys often!

This is such a special restaurant. It’s more than just a meal - it’s an experience. Your meal starts with a history of the restaurant which is given in their incredible wine cellar. You learn about the heritage of Adolfo and can sense the love and passion that comes from Javi, the head chef, who inherited the restaurant from his parents. You are then brought inside and the service is absolutely exceptional (thank you Cecilia!). The multilingual staff (they spoke with us in English) will walk you through the wine selection, ask about any dietary restrictions and help get you on your way to this culinary experience. We opted for the tasting menu and every dish was truly a piece of art. More than just food, these dishes are elegant, refined and relaxed at the same time. Some standouts were the asparagus spears cooked three ways, the artichoke and the fish which has the skin fried separately and delicately laid back on top. We added a cheese course for dessert which was exceptional and their other desserts, including their pomegranate speciality dessert, were so delicious. Please come here for an experience you won’t forget.

We had an absolutely lovely time celebrating our anniversary at Adolfo, with special thanks to Javier and his team whose genuine warmth inexplicably makes you feel right at home and ready to have a wonderful time! The underground private wine cellar is an eye-opener and such a beautiful way to start the experience - as Javier says, in Toledo you never know what's beneath your feet :) We enjoyed all the dishes which were made with fresh seasonal ingredients from Spain (my personal favourite was the suckling pork), along with the pairing of delicious Spanish wines. We are so glad we got to experience the culture, gastronomy and history of Toledo at Adolfo!

We had one of the most intimate dining experience in Adolfo Restaurante. The experience starts with the tour of their spectacular wine cellar prior to seating us to the beautiful dinning room. The ambiance is quiet, elegant and elevated. Our hostess Cecilia was very warm and welcoming and spoke very good English. The sommelier was also excellent, his choice for wine pairing is perfection. The tasting menu was unbelievable. The presentation is a work of art not to mention delicious! Every course is a delight with anticipation on what’s to come. The timing in between course is also just right, we did not feel rushed and was happy that the evening did not dragged for hours. Having dined in elegant restaurants, Adolfo Restaurante simply meets above our expectations. The chef Javier Muñoz came to the table after the meal to chat and personally thank us for dining at the restaurant. This gave us a chance to personally compliment the chef and the staff. Congratulations to the staff for a job well done. We felt like part of the family by the time we left the restaurant. Thank you for an incredible evening.

The most amazing meal I have ever had in my life. Starting with a tour of the restaurant's private wine cellar, in spaces the family discovered when they started knocking out walls underneath a property they purchased many years ago. They began stocking it with exquisite wines and cavas, and now have one of the top wine cellars in the world. We returned to the restaurant and began a seven-course meal with wine pairings. The table was gorgeous, the service was beyond excellent, and each dish was better than the last. Cecilia told us all about each dish and how to eat it in order to taste it the way the chef intended. We finished off with several desserts, including a candy shell shaped like a pomegranate and filled with a frothy yogurt (?) sauce. As instructed, we all picked up spoons and tapped the "pomegranate" shells to break them simultaneously, while wishing for good luck. Finishing off the meal with an exquisite Spanish cava, the evening was deemed a success by all. If you are looking for a once-in-a-lifetime meal experience, you should definitely come to Adolfo's.

During our stroll visit through the enchanting walled city of Toledo, my husband discovered Adolfo Restaurant, a distinguished local establishment with two Michelin star mentions and what an extraordinary discovery it was! Chef Javier delighted us with a masterful tasting menu that seamlessly blends the rich culinary traditions of La Mancha with a refined, modern, and health-conscious approach. Each dish celebrated local and seasonal ingredients elevated to perfection, taking us on a blissful journey of flavor and creativity. Who would imagine chocolate finding its place in a soup? Or that local grapes from the family’s own winery could pair so perfectly with fish? Simply incredible. The experience was further elevated by the impeccable service of Cecilia, whose warmth, grace, and attention to detail transformed our lunch into an unforgettable celebration. She joined us in our joy, wishing us the very best in our marriage, a gesture we will always remember with gratitude. Before the meal, guests are invited to visit the family’s private wine cellar, nestled in nearby 9th-century caves. It stands as one of the region’s finest, showcasing an exceptional collection of international wines, each thoughtfully paired by the sommelier to enhance every course. From start to finish, every moment reflected culinary excellence, heartfelt hospitality, and timeless elegance. We dined and drank like royalty, a celebration of love, artistry, and life itself. Bravo, well done!

Amazing elevated fine dining experience. Beautiful presented unique and innovative plates. Tableware was over the top and changed out for each course. Suckling pig was the best I'll ever have. Predinner tour of 11th century wine cellar was a lovely bonus!

This was our third visit to Adolfo Restaurante in Toledo and the menu and wine is without a doubt, the best in the city! Chef Javier prepares his menu with such care and passion and Cecilia, the Maître ‘d is very welcoming and pays attention to every detail. All of the staff are terrific and take such care! There is a daily set menu made with fresh ingredients, many of which come from their vineyard. The menu has just the right mix of fish and meat. The desserts are served with an extra special finale. Also a thank you to Miguel who takes great care in serving our wine. The Adolfo Shiraz is a must have. Before the meal, a tour of the private cellar sets the tone for an incredible dining experience. The cellar is Adolfo’s private collection with 45,000 bottles, the largest private collection in Spain. Always our first dining experience and the highlight of our travels in Spain.

Yelp
My wife and I were looking for a place with a great view where we could rest and eat a little something. This place came up on a google search. It is a little tucked away off the street, so was difficult to find at first. They have a restaurant on the first floor but also a rooftop with a very good view of the Alcazar (see photo) and other landmarks in Toledo. The wine the waiter recommended (their house labelled Pago Del Ama) was the best bottle I had in 8 days of Spain travel (and we consumed wine everyday). At 50 euros it was on the expensive side, but I'd order it again at that price. We ordered a light fair of ham, cheese, and tomato bread (pan con tomate) which were excellent. Beware that there were only a few tables with shade. If the day is hot, you may not want to spend a lot of time up here (unless you can get a shaded table).

Yelp
This is a true five star experience. Not many places do it like this. The owner and his daughter spent so much time with us and prepared a custom meal for 8(4kids). Fresh veggies and fish with multiple starters that were unique and delectable. The wine was one of the very best. The service attention was first class. After 2 hours we spent a little time on the roof top for a wonderful view of the city. This was one of this memorable moments we won't soon forget and will tell everyone was a highlight of our trip

Yelp
Very nice ambiance, really nice service and excellent food with a great wine selection. Miguel Angel, the Sommelier was amazing and very knowledgeable. The food was an amazing culinary experience but what we really love was the service; wonderfully relaxed while still being attentive. Everybody smiling and making you feel welcome, from the waiters, the Restaurant Manager and the Chef Adolfo who personally created all the dishes. Be sure to ask about the mosaic details in the ceiling!!!

Yelp
It's impossible not to feel like a king eating at Adolfo. The food is simply amazing and the service is top notch. We had the "menú chef" and it was impecable. Every dish was SO much better than anyone could have dreamed of, the staff was knowledgeable, and the space had great ambiance. If at all possible, you have to go to Adolfo in your trip around Toledo. We even ate the last round of desserts on the rooftop which has great views of the lit up city at night.

Yelp
This place must only still be around because of its opportune location by the cathedral. The service was aloof and inattentive, the food was nondescript and monochromatic in taste, and the options for the tapas special was limited and the wine offered as part of the special was acrid and distasteful. We stopped by because we were hungry and it seemed like a good idea. It wasn't a good idea, and if you are looking for a place to eat, I'd walk the couple extra blocks and find something else.

Yelp
My son and I arrived a few minutes before they opened, wanting to try it for lunch. No one there, but they somehow could not seat two people, when they did open. Very snobby and unfriendly place. The guy was even blowing smoke from his cigarette my way. I was glad to walk out and go anywhere but here.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this fabulous family owned restaurant after spending the day touring Toledo. JACKPOT! Top notch, fine dining - even with the kids! Adolfo himself took our kids into the kitchen and even shared a special bottle of sherry from his cellar. Even got a personal tour of the cellar down the alley!! Tho expensive we LOVED it!

Yelp
After five weeks of travel and dozens of meals in restaurants this summer, dinner at Adolfo stands apart as easily the most unpleasant. The food is good, but unexceptional. We had the young pig and the partridge. Each was well prepared and tasty, but not nearly up to the pretension of the restaurant. The room is elegant but stuffy in the extreme. The service was efficient to the point of being hurried and anxious. Most of all, the manager of the room was brusque; the wait staff were clearly afraid of him. We felt most unwelcome. Of course many of the restaurants from the trip had food that was less good and service that was indifferent. Those meals are easily forgotten. This one sticks in memory.
