The Most Exciting New Restaurant Openings in Santa Barbara This Fall | Eater LA

"Born as a pop-up from Turkish-born chef Efe Onoglu and now anchored in Downtown Santa Barbara, this Mediterranean-leaning restaurant blends Onoglu’s roots with local ingredients, offering spreads and vegetable mezze like fluffy falafel with lemon tahini and hummus with zhoug. Mains run to a chicken kebab marinated with harissa and yogurt, wagyu and lamb meatballs, and hamachi crudo with fermented koji grain, plus a wonderfully fresh green salad piled with lettuce, radishes, cucumbers, and cilantro in an herby tahini dressing. Onoglu’s path spans biomedical engineering and kitchens like José Andrés’ Zaytinya and Bavel in Los Angeles." - Mona Holmes

We had an enjoyable experience at Aegean. The food was delicious and well flavored and our server was adorbs. A few things to consider. Restaurant opens at 5pm but kitchen doesn’t open until 5:30pm. It’s strange but must serve some purpose. Show up at 5pm and (for now) you won’t have a wait…anything after that you will wait. Aegean has around 10-15 tables and dinner is an experience….not an eat quick and go. Plan on 2 - 2.5 hours for an enjoyable multiple plate dinner. When you come here you must share plates…it’s family style dining. I found the menu to be the perfect size and all the ingredients were of good quality with some unique food ingredients which elevates the dinning adventure. I will return and I would recommend for couples, families, and groups of 2-6. Any party larger is really not going to work with the small restaurant foot print. Enjoy!!!!

I had an amazing experience at Aegean in Santa Barbara! The flavors here are on another level — the menu is packed with delicious Mediterranean dishes that feel both authentic and creative. The meatballs and chicken quickly became my favorites, but the sea bass absolutely stole the show — truly unforgettable. On top of the food, the staff makes you feel so welcome, and the chef brings a cool energy to the whole atmosphere while working in action. This new restaurant is setting a fresh standard for Santa Barbara dining, and I can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend!

Sometimes you read reviews of new restaurants and you wonder if it isn’t too good to be true, but in this case the raves for Aegean are fully deserved. A delightful place, attentive and charming service, fair prices, and some pretty remarkable food. Interesting, varied, deeply flavored, and inventive. We had Brussels sprouts and Humous, both enough for a crowd (the accompanying bread superb), halloumi, chicken and bass, a glass of wine each, no room for the dessert (next time). Every dish was delicious, maybe the sprouts were my favorite, but gonna have to go back. Our server Isabella was lovely, happy, and knowledgeable. A new favorite in Santa Barbara

Authentic Turkish food with a mix of other cuisines. Aegean has an excellent menu and staff. I really enjoyed the octopus special they had as well as the Sunday brunch items.

Everything was 10/10! The cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, tabbouleh, salgam crudo and chocolate dessert were all phenomenal! Friendly service. We even had the honor to talk to the chef. A great evening.

Amazing food from start to finish. The hummus is incredibly smooth and packed with unique flavor. I also tried the chicken kebab and the sea bass, both were outstanding. Everything here is a must-try! Do not forget to finish with a cup of Turkish coffee.

There used to be only one Mediterranean restaurant in this town but that is no longer the case. Not only has Chef Efe being able to provide us with another choice to eat this type of cuisine but he has done it with unparalleled style and craft. He takes you on a journey with his very daring choices and mixes of flavors. You can also taste the freshness of each ingredient. I hope his menu changes with the seasons because he has the vision of an artist and should be able to create new, more adventurous dishes. We are very lucky to have him in our community. Thank you for the wonderful experience. Keep up the excellent work.

Loved everything about this gem of a restaurant! This is the kind of place you'd love to keep to yourself but simply must tell others. We dined on the patio which was spacious and comfortable. The market specials were standouts, as was the sea bass with the most tender, lemony, beans. They just added takeout as an option and we are excited to add Aegean to our regular dining rotation.
