I have lived at Aertson Midtown for 4.5 years and am preparing to move out. While the apartment itself offers some appealing features, there are several significant drawbacks that prospective tenants should be aware of.
Pros:
The apartment interiors are well-designed, creating a comfortable and modern living space.
My unit offered a great view, and the rooftop view is also impressive.
The pool area is a nice amenity and enjoyable during the warmer months.
Cons:
The building lacks any concierge services, few security measures, and no cameras, which compromises safety. Doors are often left unlocked, and it's easy for people to follow you into the building. Myself and my neighbors have experienced being harassed inside the building by intoxicated individuals.
There is no formal mailroom system, leading to issues with misplaced and stolen mail.
The elevators are a recurring problem. They break down often, and I’ve personally experienced getting stuck and even had the elevator drop unexpectedly twice with the lights going off.
The hallways and lobby are showing signs of neglect, and there have been few updates over the years. The condition of common areas has deteriorated since my move-in.
The North Tower frequently hosts hotel events on the rooftop, which can block elevator access and prevent residents from using the rooftop.
The building has become increasingly populated by undergraduates. When I first moved in, undergraduates were not allowed, but this policy has since changed without prior communication to residents. This demographic leads to parties, loud noise, and disruptive behavior, such as excessive drinking and unsanitary conditions (vomit, trash) in elevators and hallways.
The office staff turnover is high, and while there have been some good managers, they tend to leave quickly. The office staff has often been rude, flighty, and prone to miscommunication, contributing to a stressful living experience. Additionally, they frequently try to charge tenants for various fees and send threatening emails, creating a hostile and passive-aggressive atmosphere.
If you are looking for a more relaxed, college-style environment, this building may be a good fit. However, if you are seeking a quieter, safer, more professional living space, I would recommend exploring other options.
