"Month-old Afghania brings Georgetown dumplings, kabobs, slow-braised and smoked meats, and other meaty nods to the “Afghan frontier food” of its surrounding mountainous regions. That includes shinwari karahi, a Pakistani-influenced simmered stew made with masala, tomatoes, pickled onions, and chilies. Female-run Afghania is the latest area Afghan restaurant from Sofia Masroor and her three daughters, who are also behind Bistro Aracosia in Palisades, Aracosia in McLean, and Afghan Bistro in Springfield. Its newest location continues to offer plenty of vegan and vegetarian options." - Tierney Plumb

If you want to impress your friends and family with an extravagant night of unique, delicious food at considerably reasonable prices, then look no further. Forget about best afghan food, or even best middle-eastern food. This was some of the best FOOD I’ve ever had. The flavor profiles were stupendous and very unique. The bread served at the outset comes with four different sauces, each with their own flavor, and they are all delicious independently, and when mixed together. We also ordered the dumpling flight and each was fantastic in its own right. Their menu boasts a wealth of diverse selections, and includes robust vegetarian and vegan offerings. The staff were prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable. The atmosphere features a soft, dim light, with high-class embellishments like white table cloths and quality silverware, coupled with pleasant, upbeat, ambient music in the background. Considering the overall experience, the average menu price is impressively reasonable. I have had less pleasant dining experiences for double the price at other locations. I highly recommend Afghania.

I recently visited an Afghan restaurant and I was very impressed. The food was delicious rich, flavorful, and authentic. Every dish was well-prepared, from the perfectly seasoned kebabs to the fragrant rice. However, what truly set this place apart was the exceptional service. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure a great dining experience. They were knowledgeable about the menu and eager to make recommendations based on our preferences. Overall, the combination of outstanding food and top-notch service made it a memorable visit. Highly recommended!

We enjoyed a very good meal here, though it wasn't 5 stars in terms of consistent food quality. Cocktail selection was poor and very pedestrian. Service was solid and the ambience was dark but cozy. We tried the following items: ASSORTED DUMPLINGS: leek & scallion, pumpkin, and spicy beef dumplings. In the order listed, they were the best to so-so. I'd only order the leak & scallion and the pumpkin, the beef was forgettable. QUROTI: Toasted Afghan bread, topped with minced beef & lentils, walnuts, and fried onions. Finished with a warm yogurt garlic puree, dried mint & cayenne. - The sauce here was the most remarkable but as a whole dish, I don't think it was close to the dumplings in flavor and scarification. I wouldn't order this again. AFGHANIA SIGNATURE LAMB CHOPS &BEEF TENDERLOIN: Rib chops and beef tenderloin, served with qabuli rice, with a side of kadoo - excellent cuts of lamb and beef, well seasoned and seared and grilled to perfection. The qabuli rice was not very good, lacked flavor and made me pine for other versions I had enjoyed elsewhere. LAWAAN: Slow cooked in a garlic yogurt based stew, topped with cilantro, and served with saffron infused basmati rice. - this was quite good, and worked very nicely with their basmati rice grains. Solid dish. Very much worth a try, but it wasn't consistent enough to immediately merit a return visit.

I chose to come here for a solo dinner as I was exploring Georgetown. It’s a very small restaurant. I love Afghani food and have eaten it many times at both fancy and regular restaurants. Since this was my first visit, the host brought out an appetizer on the house for me, which I truly appreciated. It was the chickpea appetizer with fried onions. It was good but a bit oily for my tastes. I came here with high hopes, but the food was just ok. I got lamb tenderloin and they must have forgotten the salt. On top of that, the table didn’t have a salt/pepper shaker. I actually overheard the person sitting at the nearby table ask for salt. So I know it wasn’t just me! The qabuli pulao was strangely more moister or wetter (for lack of a better word) than what I am normally used to. For that reason, it also missed the mark for me. The best thing were the sauces that came with the bread. Those tasted authentic, and homemade. The service was great. They were attentive and pleasant, even though I was dining by myself. Overall, it was good, but just not for my taste.

First time trying afghani food and I was really impressed at how good the food and service were. The sambosas were different from what I was typically used to but they were full of flavor. Additionally the lamb was perfectly grilled and the rice had a lot of flavor to it. 10/10 will be coming back on my next DC visit!

At first could not believe all the perfect 5 ratings, but the place is truely amazing, the food is great, if not familiar with Afghan cuisine it’s a truely a travel through new experiences. Could not recommend more.

Exceptional addition to Georgetown. Located on the east end of town, the plates are many and diverse with complex middle eastern flavors. The slow cooked meats are phenomenal. The dumplings, devine. Highly trained voluminous wait staff that are not in your way. I’ve eaten in many tasty Afghan restaurants, but this one pulls off well a luxury experience. Great job!

Excellent food and service. Prices are good, quality of food is great. The only bad thing is that the music is super loud so it’s hard to have a conversation.
