After Eight - Review - West Midtown - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"You’ll need to pause in the doorway of this West Midtown cocktail bar to let your eyes adjust. Once they do, you’ll see futuristic orbs dangling from the ceiling—clearly more for aesthetics than functionality. It’s the kind of stylish, intimate cocktail spot we’d picture the movie-making celebs visiting. For the rest of us regular civilians, we’re happy to bring a date here for pre- or post-dinner cocktails. The bar is connected to Eight Sushi Lounge (one of the best sushi spots in the city), making it a no-brainer dinner-and-drinks combo. Bartenders regularly utilize nitrogen flairs and tweezers for garnishes, so the prices are what you’d expect. But you can't go wrong with any of the cocktails with Japanese-made spirits, like the citrusy Intern with nikka vodka, aperol, and lemon." - Juli Horsford

The New Atlanta Restaurant Openings You Should Know About

"The new speakeasy from the team behind Eight Sushi Lounge sits right next door to the West Midtown sushi hotspot. The new bar addition makes the whole dinner and drinks combo a no brainer. " - nina reeder, juli horsford

My friend spent her birthday here. I don’t eat sushi, but I had a margarita & it was a great drink. The rest of her party said the food was delicious. I enjoy great customer service and the ambience was really nice

We checked out After Eight after eating dinner at Eight Sushi. The service was top tier. We got our drinks quickly and the servers were so friendly. The ambiance is beautiful but it was a little empty. We did go early-ish (around 10:30pm) so that might be why. I had the Wilde mezcal cocktail and would highly recommend. The music was also fantastic.

I think this place has a lot of potential and was really busy considering their location. The cocktails are not balanced at all. The knights gambit is a Gibson riff infused with sesame and there’s about 60% too much sesame oil. The maestro was fairly delicious but there’s a note of cumin that is really off putting that doesn’t need to be there for the drinks success. Their whisky and whiskey selection isn’t huge but it is quality nonetheless. Their saving grace in my mind was one particular cocktail waitress named Nikki. She was so attentive and nice, incredible attitude and just generally adorable. You could tell she was really able to find some relatable energy with every table. Quite professional. I wish after eight would hone their cocktail menu in a little because I love the idea of this place and I think the ceiling is higher than they are letting it be. Overall not a bad place.

After Eight, you have lost me as a customer for good. I ordered a Dirty Martini with extra olives, which, by the way, cost nearly $20. I even posted a picture of my drink because I was enjoying it. Then I ordered another one the exact same way—only to be told that I would now be charged per olive if I wanted extra. Are you kidding me?! I have NEVER been to a bar or restaurant that nickel-and-dimes customers over OLIVES. At that point, I told the server to forget it, paid my bill, and walked out. I will NEVER set foot in After Eight again, and I will make sure my friends and followers know exactly how ridiculous this place is. Tell me—how much money is an olive worth to you? Because you just lost a loyal customer over it.

Such a great new spot! Drinks are SO good. You have to try the heiress and wilde, absolutely delicious. Staff is super friendly and gives you snacks while drinking, highly recommend and will definitely be back!

This was an unexpected lounge in midtown. It was a bit hard to find with just a door from the street outside with no sign. Once inside we found a cool lounge with dimmed lights. I had the Heiress drink and it was very yummy.

The experience you really need, exceeding expectations! Incredibly well crafted cocktails presented by an artsy poetic menu, tasty flavor boosted snacks, reasonable prices and outstanding quality all around. The chill ambiance kept us there for longer than expected and led us to taste more cocktails than planned. Friendly staff, beautiful people and top notch ingredients as well as presentation. You can tell the concept was well planned and all involved worked hard to make this happen, taking pride in it. I’m glad my friends suggested we’d try it. 100/10 stars. We want to try every item in the menu now 🤌🏼

Yelp
What a discovery. After Eight is the sleekest new cocktail lounge that's opened here in recent memory. Let me set the stage - after walking through a nondescript door on Brady Avenue you step into a dark, moody, yet extremely modern lounge area. These design elements culminate into what is a REMARKABLY cozy space. The bar equipment is the most sophisticated I have seen down here. The cocktails are innovative interpretations of Japanese and Asian classics. Each one I tried (heiress, noble son, and expresso martini) were off the charts. Every sip was a symphony of different subtle flavors in perfect harmony. This will surely be my new neighborhood spot for artisan cocktails. Make it yours too!!

Yelp
Still in their soft open. The staff were super sweet and great to explain the cocktails. I tried to very different cocktails and they both were amazing. I loved the ingredients and thought the price point was right for the craft and venue. They give you some amazing Asian snacks with your drinks. I spoke with the creator of the cocktails and he is very welcoming and modest! Very impressed and hope this place sticks around. Ambiance is dark but perfect for the theme and craft cocktail vibe with friends.

Yelp
Located in the back of Eight sushi with a glamorous lounge atmosphere. Cocktails are reasonably priced and our bartender delivered some complementary snacks to go with them. The service was also excellent. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Overall a great spot for elevated cocktails. It's quite dark in the space so it feels intimate. When I went they didn't offer food , just light snacks which felt a little limited. The service was consultative and informative (Wendy was kind), but the price point felt a bit high for the experience. Would be back again but sadly this won't be a regular spot for me.

Yelp
Got the espresso martini before our dinner reservation at Eight next door. We sat at the bar and didn't have any trouble getting a seat early evening. Bartender said it gets much busier after dinner / late. Service was great! Plus there's a door direct to Eight!

Yelp
My husband and I visited After Eight on Saturday following our dinner reservations at Eight Sushi Bar. We've been anticipating the opening of this cocktail bar for awhile now. It is an extension of Eight Sushi. It's perfectly located next door and you can get cocktails before or after dinner. The ambience sets the tone of the cocktail bar. It's sleek, modern, and eclectic. The cocktails are unique, crafty, and original. We had the Noble Sun and the Fairytale. Both drinks were delicious. The prices are average cocktail prices in the Atlanta area, starting at $15. They also bring out complimentary snacks, which consisted of a truffle chip, homemade corn chip, and a umami flavored cracker. They were all very tasty and complimented the drinks well. Overall, we really enjoyed After Eight and look forward to coming back in the future.

Yelp
This place has a great speakeasy feel and ambiance. The location is modern and the drinks are delicious! They also provide some bar snacks while you're seated, but my favorite drink was the heiress.

Yelp
Decent spot in west midtown to grab drinks. It's a pretty small restaurant so I could there be a problem with finding seating space. They had a fun and eclectic book of cocktails that we had a good time choosing from. The servers bring out some small snacks to eat with your drinks. It is pretty dark and loud inside. Overall not bad, but not quite my vibe. There are definitely other places in west midtown where I would stop for drinks but After Eight is worth checking out.
