Afuri Review - Southeast - Portland, OR - The Infatuation

"Unlike basketball players attempting baseball careers and singer/songwriters trying out acting in Hallmark movies, Afuri manages to be excellent at a number of things. Their signature yuzu shio bowl is some of the best ramen in the city, but their menu also includes small plates, rolls, and sashimi - all of which we like a lot. Plus, they have vegan options like the Hazelnut Tantanmen, with a miso base flavored with the local nut, plus vegetables, and miso-cashew crumbles. It’s all served in a super modern and sleek space that’s just as great for a solo dinner at the bar as it is for a group of people who reject the premise that soups can’t be shared." - Krista Garcia

Definitely not the version of the Tokyo AFURI. Nothing came out hot enough, the sushi tasted off and the chicken Karage was soft. I had very nigh expectations as I’m in Tokyo a lot so this goes without saying I was underwhelmed. But the sesame noodles were good.

Overall delicious food! When we came it was pretty empty and we got a table easily. The service was quick. We got our appetizer, drink and entree all at the same time. It would have been nice to have been paced out a bit. We ordered the veggie hazelnut ramen and the tuna poke bowl. The ramen was a thicker consistency then I'm used too but the taste was delicious. The poke bowl according to my partner was one of the better ones he has had. Overall yummy food, cute place to eat and fast service.

The broth of the ramen is amazing, so glad I found this place! For the sushi, the rice is slightly on the harder side but the tuna melts in your mouth, will definitely come back again!

I decided to try Ramen Place because it shares the same name and branch as the one in Tokyo, which I absolutely love. The ramen here is still solid, with rich flavors and a satisfying texture. The service is quick, and the decor is well thought out, creating a cozy atmosphere. However, I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t include their signature seasonal dish from Tokyo — a light, citrus-based ramen that’s both refreshing and unique. It’s one of the standout items I was hoping for. While the food is good overall, the menu and quality don’t quite match up to the Tokyo branch.

So happy to find AFURI in Lisbon this time! It’s been 6 years since I had it in Tokyo. Definitely my best choice in town. I ate here two nights in a row so you can tell how much I enjoyed it.

The Karaage appetizer was really good: the chicken was crunchy & chunky, but the side of egg salad was watery and bland. The Tonkotsu Tantanmen was disappointing bc the broth was softly flavored. As I was finishing the broth, I found a clump of seasoning at the bottom of the bowl. Apparently the seasoning wasn’t diluted well, and maybe that’s why the broth wasn’t very flavorful. FYI: The online menu did not match the actual menu including items and prices.

Authentic Japanese ramen is here. I ordered Yuzu Shio ramen and it tastes really great. We also had some appetizers like fried chicken and a set of nigiri. The service here is wonderful, quite welcoming, and we had a great diner time here🥰

Yelp
Wow literally the best Ramen and Sushi we've ever had. We thought Japan town in LA was good but this was incredible and the service was amazing. Everyone was so sweet and helpful- they were constantly checking on us to see how our experience was and to make recommendations when asked. My friend doesn't eat seafood but liked their sushi. Also the drinks were so good and the restaurant is so cute and beautiful inside. It's intimate and vibrant all at the same time. Would highly recommend (we even came here twice lol)

Yelp
Great option for ramen in Lisbon, but it wasn't the best I've ever had. Waitress was a bit scary but all the food was prompt. We also tried the soft shell crab baos (yum) and cashew potstickers (very interesting). Would recommend coming if you want a switch from local Portuguese food!

Yelp
Hours are incorrect on yelp. Call before go. We went in at 4 pm on a Wednesday and they were closed.

Yelp
I was craving real Asian food after traveling in Europe for a couple weeks and found this Afuri on Google Maps. The ramen is pretty good and the broth was legit. Water costs money here so might as well order a tea or something. Monday through Thursday they have €10 specials that rotate between the stuff on their menu as of July 2020. Definitely hit the spot.
