The Best Gluten-Free Restaurants in Houston, Texas | Eater Houston

"This Heights restaurant (which has locations in Portland, Oregon; Los Angeles; and in Japan) creates hot bowls of ramen that everyone can enjoy, thanks to its gluten-free rice noodles. Kick off the experience with yuzu shio edamame topped with black pepper and garlic chips or the colorful fruit shira-ae salad, a mix of greens, seasonal fruit, miso cashews, and yuzu drizzled with a tofu dressing. A bowl of yuzu or tonkotsu shio ramen, each with char siu and an egg, complete the meal. Be sure to make any allergies known before ordering and request gluten-free soy sauce." - Brianna Griff

The Best Ramen in Houston | Eater Houston

"This sleek new Japanese restaurant in the Heights goes beyond the typical offerings with karaage, dumplings, sushi, handrolls, and rice bowls — but its ramen is still the main event. Bowls of noodles come with delicate broths, including its signature Yuzu Shop that’s made from a reduction of chicken, dry fish, seaweed, and vegetables with a hint of yuzu citrus, while the Tonkotsu Shio loads up bowl a bowl of thin noodles with an umami-packed broth and a topping of scallions, wood ear mushroom, black garlic oil, char siu, pickled ginger, egg, and sesame. Branch out with Afuri’s tsukemen, or dipping ramen, which comes in a yuzu-forward or spicy dipping sauce to dunk in the noodles, served to your preference, either warm or cold." - Brittany Britto Garley

I was excited to get my free ramen at Afuri Ramen for my birthday! You just show your ID. When I arrived with a friend I was warmly greeted by Tumul who gave us excellent customer service during our delicious lunch! We arrived early at 11:30am and beat the lunch rush. The ambiance was nice and spacious and I loved all the sunlight coming through the big windows. The only choice for my birthday ramen was called Yuzu Shio and everything about it was delicious but it was a chicken broth. I prefer pork broth and maybe I could have asked for it next time. YUZU SHIO shio tare, chicken broth, chi-yu, menma, greens, chashu, egg, nori, yuzu, thin noodle My friend really enjoyed his Hamachi Don which he ate so quickly! It looked colourful too. HAMACHI DON yellowtail, poke sauce, onion, scallion, hazelnut rayu, sesame, sushi ginger, kizami nori, sushi rice We also shared two appetizers which we really loved! Except the Spicy Pork Tacos were way too spicy for me. POKE SALMON TACOS crispy gyoza shell, salmon, scallion, poke sauce, sushi ginger, radish, lime aioli, micro greens, lime SPICY PORK TACOS crispy gyoza shell, toban-jan miso pork, cucumber, onion, spicy miso, lime aioli, radish, chives, sweet soy glaze, lime The good food and great customer service really made my birthday special! Big thanks to Yumul and the chefs!

The food is okay, the price is on the pricier side, and the service can be improved. I ordered the Yuzu Tsuyu, which is a dipping noodle. I really enjoyed it—it’s not too salty. However, the Kakuni Pork that came with it was way too salty and took away from the overall experience. My friend ordered the Albacore Don, which was too salty, and the Chicken Karaage was also too salty for my taste. We also ordered an appetizer called Hotate Carpaccio. This is a new menu item they’re advertising both on a board outside the restaurant and on the menu. It was supposed to come with strawberries on top of the scallop, but they changed it to grapes without informing us. They said it’s because strawberries are not in season—which isn’t true, it’s June. That lack of communication was disappointing. As a Japanese restaurant, I expect top-tier service, and this just didn’t meet the mark. On a positive note, they’re offering a buy-one-get-one-free beer deal every day until July 1st, which is a good deal.

This is one of the best ramen spots on my list! They have a short menu, but it's quality over quantity. Their Shio Yuzu and Tonkotsu ramen both have a strong flavor profiles. Yuzu makes the ramen so unique, which pairs well with the light chicken broth. The Tonkatsu ramen on the other hand is so creamy and rich! Perfect to pair with some salad or alcoholic beverages! Another thing I love is their soft boiled eggs - i can have ten of them!! Recommended!

Google
Heard about its famous Yuzu Shio Ramen in Afuri in Japan. The broth was light and flavorful, but the noodles were quite average. We also had the Yuzu Tsuyu Tsuyu dipping noodles—very salty and nothing special. The salmon tataki and hamachi carpaccio were fresh but underwhelming. Overall, it satisfied my curiosity, but it’s more of a one-time visit than a must-return spot.

We visited this place for the first time and found it to be spacious and inviting. We ordered a small appetizer and ramen noodles, and the portion sizes were quite generous. We tried chicken, pork, and veggie options, each offering a unique and delicious flavor! If you're a fan of ginger, you absolutely must try their homemade ginger ale.

I visited this restaurant on a Friday evening. Although there was a moderate number of customers, I didn’t have to wait in line at all. The atmosphere was beautiful, clean, and welcoming. The location is also very convenient, just a 6-minute walk from College Station. I ordered Ramen Combo 2 set. The first set included Yuzu Ratan, Crispy Buta Gyoza, and a Pepsi. My partner wasn’t particularly fond of the ramen, as he thought the broth tasted similar to tomato paste, but he really enjoyed the gyoza. For the second set, I chose Yuzu Tsuyu, Tori Karaage, and Yuzu Limeade. I really enjoyed this ramen, it was served dry with a flavorful dipping sauce that paired perfectly with the noodles. The karaage was my favorite dish of the evening, and the yuzu limeade was also very refreshing. Additionally, the restaurant offers a great promotion: if you leave a review on Google, you receive a free ice cream. Overall, it was a great dining experience and I would definitely return.

We loved this place we found by just walking by. The ramen was awesome, as were the sushi rolls. The melon/cucumber salad was excellent. Great service and ambiance.

Tonkotsu ramen was amazing! Staff are friendly. I dug in too fast and forgot to take a photo until after. The restaurant is open, inviting, and comfortable. The quality hand soap and lotion are a nice touch and made it a memorable experience.

Yelp
Ok Afuri ramen's Kara Tsuyu Tsukemen is one of my favourite bowls of ramen in the city. You can also get the spicy version too if you like though I've only tried the non-spicy. I love the refreshing citrus taste and that you can choose to enjoy it cold so perfect for the summer months. It's generally quite easy to score seats here. I love the big floor to ceiling windows and the layout of the seats where you can enjoy dine-in with a group of friends or even dine-solo if you want. The others that had their shio and this other spicy ramen in broth (forgot the exact name), didn't enjoy theirs as much as mine. So definitely recommend the tsukemen here. We also enjoyed the hamachi ceviche. I like the fried soft shell crab but my SO says it taste a little hard to be soft shell maybe just his piece. PS they also have a birthday special where you can get a bowl of ramen for free on the day of your birthday.

Yelp
Came for my sister's birthday and had such a lovely time. Our server was friendly and courteous, and let us choose where we'd like to sit. There's plenty of seating inside great for a solo meal or groups of 2-6. They have this great promotion where they give you a free bowl of ramen for your birthday, just show your ID! Here's what we ordered: * Tonkotsu Chashu Men $24.95 (free birthday meal) * Poke Salmon Tacos $13.95 The ramen broth was flavorful and delicious. The taco was perfectly crunchy and the salmon was so tasty and fresh. Highly recommend! The interior is lovely, with high ceiling, concrete walls, and a full service bar. 20250717

Yelp
Overall the food was good. Couple of things we got were mid. The dumplings were the best part though. The young man who waited on us did an amazing job. It's a nice atmosphere. Really laid back. Kind like a Starbucks vibe. They have a bar space also. It's not really big though. I could see this spot being busy during lunch hour. I recommend the crispy buta gyoza.

Yelp
I arrived after my family and although the sever noticed me coming in, they didn't come offered me a water or beverage nor did they come take my order. I had to wave down someone else to take my order, no utensils were given, I had to ask once again. I was pretty disappointed as I had heard great things about Afuri. The my ramen didn't take long to arrive after I ordered but once again I was disappointed as the broth was just warm and not hot as I expected. It didn't taste like anything special but the flavors were there so I give it that.

Yelp
I tried the Tonkotsu ramen and also the Crispy Buta Gyoza. The Gyoza was not bad, it was crispy and had a decent sauce. The Tonkotsu ramen was probably one of the most bland ramens I have had in a restaurant. The noodles were not bad, but the broth had so little flavour. I also tasted the Yuzu ramen. More unique but still not very good. I am hesitant about ramen in Toronto and this is probably one of the worst I have had. I don't know how this place has locations around the world serving this quality of ramen. The service was completely basic, but sufficient. Atmosphere is ok. I would steer clear. So many better ramen places.

Yelp
Ramen was so delicious!! Afuri is known for their yuzu infused ramen so it's very different from the traditional pork or chicken broths. They are richer and heavier. Afuri ramen is very light and their handmade noodles is a big plus. Fresh noodles means less artificial flavours and preservatives as it is made daily. This is a must try spot
google avatar

Joeann S.

Yelp
Afuri specializes in Yuzu ramen, it tastes so light and flavourful! They have a combo where you can get a ramen, small app and drink for 27$. We ordered yuzu shoyu, tonkotsu ship ramen, takoyaki and a housemade gingerale. The waitress was very nice and patient, answered all of our questions. I love the industrial looking interior, so cool! You can get a free ramen on the day of your birthday by showing your ID!

Yelp
This place is surprisingly big. But it was not well patronized during the Victoria Day long weekend. This restaurant was never more than one third full during my visit. The staff seated us quickly, but without much emotion. I had the shio noodle and I didn't enjoy the flavour. It was also light on the meat , with just one slice. The limeade was good though, not too sour.

Yelp
I first discovered the brand at Pride Festival this year while lining up at a skin care brand, and went on to do some research. They're a famous Japanese ramen brand known for the yuzu soup base and have franchised over the world since they started in 2011 in Japan. The Toronto location is on Church St and Wood St, with a spacious location, big windows to provide ample lightings, and high ceiling with exposed concrete to give an industrial look, plenty of seats and a bar area as well. The kitchen is an open concept kitchen where you get to see your order come alive! On our visit, we ordered the following items and here're our thoughts on each item, starting with their drinks, followed by appetizers/ small plates, ramen, and dessert: - Yuzu Limeade: a yuzu sparkling cider that was super refreshing, not too sweet - Housemade Ginger Ale: less sweeter version of commercial ginger ale, very strong ginger taste - Crispy Hotate Gyoza Tostada: finely chopped scallop pieces mixed with poke sauce, beautifully garnished on top of 2 pieces of crispy tostada... it's not something you would find in other ramen places. Maybe the poke sauce was not house made or adjusted, the more bites you take in, the saltier it gets, and it overpowered the freshness of the scallop - Tori Karaage: Japanese fried chicken, but it's juicy and extra tender. You don't get the oily texture from the crispy skin. The sauce was a house made nanban sauce with taste of yuzu, so it doesn't feel as heavy. - Buta Gyoza: it's a well-known "wing-ed dumplings" in Japan where essentially the gyoza was pan fried and assembled nicely on a crispy shell to resembled a "wing" on the gyoza when you take it apart. It was juicy, slight crunch from the leeks.... YUMMMMM! - Yuzu Shoyu: soy sauce based broth with their signature yuzu taste, it was a refreshing bite all the way! The seasoned egg was boiled and marinated perfectly with a little runny center, and a sweet aftertaste. - Chashu men: soy sauce based broth but no yuzu taste. I still enjoyed it as the soy sauce was not overwhelmingly salty, it still complements a nice flavour to every bite. - Basque Cheesecake: normal cheesecake served cold with yuzu curd and house made whipped cream on top, and a few candied hazelnuts. The cheesecake itself was creamy and soft, you can enjoy a bite with whipped cream or with yuzu curd.

Yelp
If you haven't tried yuzu ramen before, I think you should try! Their ramen is light and flavourful which I love (I like my ramen to have a lighter broth). It does have a hint of yuzu in it, making it taste different and unique compared to other ramen spots. Their watermelon salad was also really refreshing! The staffs were nice and patient and also helped us decide our order. The interior is spacious with an industrial feel to it.

Yelp
Service was good. The restaurant was well decorated. Loved the vibe. There were a lot of food options and the dishes were presented really well. Lacking a little bit in flavour.
google avatar

Yelp
This place was recommended to me by staff at the hotel I was staying. Had no idea there is a location in Japan and in LA now too. I was blown away by the yuzu based ramen. Tasted super light, fresh, acidic. It's seriously my new favorite type of ramen now. If you've never had this type of ramen, I highly highly recommend. You won't feel too heavy afterwards. Noodles were cooked perfectly with the perfect bite. Service was good. Would love to try the location in Japan next.
google avatar

Denny T.

Yelp
It was pretty good. I got the yuzu shoyo ramen, but I didn't realize it was thin noodles. I've never had ramen with thin noodles and it kind of threw me off. However, it was still pretty good and very flavorful. I looked on the menu and I guess the only ones with thick noodles are the tonkotsu tantan and hazlenut tantan. I'm not sure if you can substitute the thick noodle in the other ramens, but I think it would make them taste a little better if you did. My buddy got the ginger ale and he said it was really good.
google avatar

Kathy L.

Yelp
Went to this place randomly and was craving for ramen that night. Nice ambiance and service. I ordered Tonkotsu Shio. They used a very light soup base, which was my first time trying it and it was a nice surprise. But I still prefer a stronger, heavier base. Not too busy for a Wednesday night. Price is reasonable for a Toronto downtown restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
Saw this place on the map and had to try it out as I had just come back from Japan! I tried Afuri while I was in Japan and wanted to know if the Afuri in Toronto tasted the same. We got the Yuzu Shio Ramen Yuzu Ratan Ramen and some Yuzu Shio Edamame. First thing is that both ramens had a very strong yuzu flavour. Too strong in fact. I feel like they could've toned down on the yuzu as it overpowered the broth. Other than that, the ramen was super chewy and the char siu and egg was cooked to perfection. The Ratan broth could be spicier but it was still very good. The yuzu flavour on the edamame complimented the beans very well and I would recommend getting this if you like edamame. Overall, these ramen are comparable to the ones in Japan. I would definitely come back if I'm ever craving some yuzu ramen.
google avatar

Michelle H.

Yelp
Such a hidden gem in the area ! I will be visiting when I come back to the area. The flavor of the soup was delcious, worth a visit. The combo was such a nice deal, as you get a mini appetizer, a full size ramen and a drink. The serve and staff was so friendly and was on top of it, the overall ambiance was so friendly.
google avatar

Tammy N.

Yelp
Afuri Ramen and Dumpling just opened last year. With it's spacious and luxurious aesthetic, it has a very relaxed atmosphere. I decided to be adventurous and got the hazelnut tantan noodles. It comes with hazelnut broth, and miso cashews. Slightly strong ginger taste. Not my favourite broth to be honest but I commend them for being creative! Their specialty is their yuzu broth so I would definitely give that a try instead next time. Seems like people enjoy that a lot! I also got some winged gyoza, highly recomment to eat these fast because ours got soft once I was done taking pictures
google avatar

Jennifer G.

Yelp
This place has a lot of potential to be a favourite ramen spot. I have had the vegan ramen, which I was thoroughly impressed with especially considering most vegetarian based ramen is very watery and the flavour profile is just salty. Not this one. It was rich with the hazelnut and cashews, and the mushrooms were delicious. I only wish there were moreofthe mushroom and other toppings. My friend had the signature chicken yuzu based ramen. The broth was light with citrus notes throughout. Really interesting. It would be the perfect bowl if there was more chashu. In general, that would be the one area of improvement to have a greater quantity of toppings. The menu has multiple other options that I would like to try, namely the soft shell crab bun. Service was attentive and friendly. Thanks for giving out recommendations and compare the different dishes. The interior design is well laid out, with lots of space and a modern, inviting area to gather with friends for a meal.
google avatar

Sharon Y.

Yelp
Interesting and fresh flavours. I got the yuzu ramen, which had a light and citrusy broth. Normally I prefer richer and spicier broths but this was also quite nice and refreshing. I think it would be extra enjoyable in the hot summer. We also tried their gyoza which had a nice and thin wrapper and a pretty flavourful meat filling. Overall an enjoyable meal and I'm happy to go back.
google avatar

Yelp
Clean and modern space. Awesome customer service. They continuously checked in on us. Loved that they leave a glass of water for you to refill on your own so you didn't have to wait and ask for refills. Food was decent. Some better than others. I especially liked their special. My favorite was the spicy tori karaage and the yuzu limeaide. I wasn't a fan of the ninniku shoyu as much. The Tonkatsu Tantan was good, not great. This was our first time here and won't be the last.
google avatar

Tiffany C.

Yelp
they offer an amazing experience for anyone seeking a tasty bowl of ramen! the yuzu shoyu ramen stands out with its flavorful soy sauce broth and a refreshing touch of yuzu, making each bite enjoyable. the cozy atmosphere adds to the experience, making it a great place to unwind and savour a satisfying meal.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great place if you want to try some ramen in downtown Toronto. The first thing you notice when you step inside is how big and open the space feels. There's a big bar, an open concept kitchen and very tall ceilings almost like an industrial space. The service we got was very friendly, and our server made it a point to explain items on the menu and answer any questions we had. I had my eye on the hazelnut tan tan as I had never seen a variation of noodles with nuts as the main accompaniment. It tasted really good. The broth was very rich with a little bit of spice, and overall a very good dish. I also got some of their house made Ginger ale which has a very strong ginger taste. I thought it was really good but my friend got the Yuzu limeade, which would probably cater to more people. If you're in the area, check it out it's a really cool space inside and you'll also have a nice ramen experience.

Yelp
Just landed at Toronto, I saw so many reviews on the red book said service bad and taste no good as well. Today visited on 2pm, not too crowded and I got great services and honestly really love their soup base with yuzu, definitely perfect on summer But no AC during my visit lol

Yelp
I was told by my wife that it's a hype ramen restaurant on the internet. I might anticipate it too much so I found it a bit disappointing. Of course, there's no perfect restaurant. Every restaurant has its pros and cons. I start with their pros. It has the best ambiance among all the ramen stores I've been to, not only in Toronto but throughout Asia. Ramen restaurants are used to having narrow spaces and are hard to move. Afuri is different. It is so spacious! The tables are also pretty big. They even have a long table which seems like it is made of a whole trunk in the middle of the restaurant. For a ramen store, Afuri is a fancy restaurant. They decorate everything carefully, from the indoor decoration to the cutleries to the food, you can see it's very consistent with the Afuri theme. Yeah, you can even find "Afuri" text on the bun of the pork bun! The staff were nice and welcoming. You and your friends will definitely enjoy the meal time here! The cons were that I really felt the ramen and other food themselves were so-so. Maybe I'm being too harsh. Maybe people come here not for food but for the fancy ambiance. Whatever, as a foodie and a ramen lover, I still expect to have a good bowl of ramen to devout when I enter a ramen restaurant. We had their signature dishes, the Yuzu Shoyu or Yuzu Shio. They felt ordinary and didn't really have much yuzu flavour. The Chashu was charcoal grilled. That's lovely but I got burnt pork skin and I didn't like tasting bitter flavour in my mouth and it wasn't healthy, either. Anyway, it's still a gorgeous restaurant, it's very nice to bring friends here and it's also a good choice for a Japanese-style dinner with your date. But if you want to have a true bowl of ramen. I'd suggest you go to other places

Yelp
The dumplings at this ramen shop don't differ much in quality compared to those in Hong Kong. However, what makes them unique is the slightly sour sauce, which is very appetizing. As for the ramen itself, it's the best I've had in Toronto. The char siu (barbecued pork) is noticeably well-cooked, and compared to other ramen shops in Toronto, they put more effort into preparing it. We chose the yuzu-flavored broth, which has a tangy and refreshing taste that's very appetizing. In terms of portion size, it's relatively larger compared to other ramen shops in Toronto, making it a good value for the price.

Yelp
Tried a bowl of the Yuzu Shio ramen from Afuri and only thought it was ok....the citrus from yuzu in the broth gave it somewhat of a refreshing taste, but I personally didn't like the noodles here, and found that the taste of the pork meat over powered the light taste of the Yuzu. This may have been better suited for my palate if served with chicken. The staff were all very friendly and greates us with smiles. We also didn't need to wait very long to get seated because we got there right before the dinner rush, and the food came within a reasonable amount of time. The restaurant itself is very spacious, and has an simple airy feel to it. Ordered: - Yuzu Shio Ramen - Crispy Buta Gyoza - Kakuni Pork Bun - Yuzu Limeade

Yelp
There seem to be a lot of high quality Japanese restaurants in downtown Toronto, and that's fine with us. Afuri has an excellent atmosphere (high ceilings, lots of light, not much noise), great service, and the food was tasty. Prices were decent too, at least after the USD conversion discount. 1 soft shell crab bun $12.00 - whole crab in a bun! 1 yuzu shoyu $17.50 - Never had a slice of pork like that called chashu 1 hazelnut tantanmen (v) $20.00 - Good vegetarian, but spicy 1 Toki Sawa $16.00 - Nicely blended bourbon cocktail 1 yuzu limeade $7.00 1 Matcha Ice Cream Sandwich $9.00 - very good and unique Place was busy on a Saturday night, but had a few open tables so a party of two didn't have to wait. They have some bar seating too.

Yelp
This Japanese restaurant specializes in ramen and dumplings. It is a Japanese brand that started in 2011 in Japan, and it is franchaised. They are known for their use of high-quality ingredients (eg, noodle ingredients are flown in from Japan and made in-house), no MSG, affordability, and service. Even their bowls are hand-made and hand-painted, so no two are identical! The brand is named after Mount Afuri in Japan. Legend has it that Mt. Afuri is the father of Mt. Fuji. Their signature dishes are the Yuzu Shio Ramen and Winged Buta Gyoza. Buta means pork and gyoza are Japanese dumplings. During the grand opening of 2023-07-02 to 03, the first 100 customers get a free Yuzu Limeade. We ordered the following: 1. Yuzu Limeade ($7.00). Free during grand opening. 2. Hojicha Milk Tea ($8.00). 3. Suika Soda ($7.00). 4. Yuzu Shio Ramen ($17.50) with Grilled Chasu Pork (+$3.50) and Pickled Shitake (+$3.00). 5. Yuzu-Tsuyu Ramen ($20.00). 6. Winged Buta Gyoza ($12.00). 7. Tori Karage Don ($10.00). 8. Watermelon Salad ($10.00). The service was courteous. I only had the first 2 drinks, and they were refreshing. I only had the Yuzu Shio Ramen. The noodles maintained their consistency even if you took a long time taking pictures first, like I did. The broth was delicious; I drank all of it. The added toppings were also delicious. The gyoza were well-made and delicious. The karage with rice was balanced. The Watermelon Salad was extremely refreshing on a hot day. The restaurant has a very high ceiling with an industrial look and is brightly lit, helped by floor-to-ceiling windows. There is an open kitchen so you can watch everything being prepared. There is even a glass-enclosed room where you can watch a person making the ramen noodles and dumplings using machines. There is plenty of indoor seating, but there is no outdoor seating. This is the first location in Toronto. There are 5 other locations in North America: Vancouver (British Columbia), 3 in Portland (Oregon), and Los Angeles (California). The CEO now lives in Portland (Oregon). There is free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. There is one gender-neutral washroom,  and it is wheelchair accessible.  There is paid neighbourhood street parking. There are high chairs for small children. Review 2023-214

Yelp
Food: 3.5/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Rounding up to a 4 because of the good service (although I've heard mixed reviews) and nice ambiance. We tried Afuri on a weekday night when there wasn't a wait and I was pleasantly surprised by how bright and spacious it was inside. There is an open kitchen where you can see all the food being made. They currently don't have their alcohol license yet so only non-alcoholic beverages are served. The menu was pretty easy to read and I like how there's a huge variety of appetizers (definitely more than your usual ramen joint). We ordered the Softshell crab bun ($12), Winged buta gyoza ($11), Yuzu shoyu ramen ($16) and Yuzu shio ramen ($16). Prices are reasonable given how everything has gone up in price these days and you can't really get a bowl of ramen for less than $15-16 nowadays. Our favorite dish of the night was definitely the softshell crab bun - can't go wrong with a freshly fried softshell crab in a soft bun with kimchi! The dumplings and ramen were however a little disappointing. The dumplings weren't very crispy and the filling just didn't taste that great in my opinion. The ramen broth is pretty light but the yuzu flavor ruined it for me. Maybe I'm just not a fan of yuzu in savory things but it didn't work well. I think I would have preferred the ramen without the yuzu flavor (haha). I would definitely come back and get their Tonkotsu ramen though. All in all, it's a solid place to try but the yuzu broth might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Yelp
I LOVEEE their tsukemen as the yuzu broth is delightful. That yuzu citrus brightens and lightens the dish, making it very refreshing. The ramen was fresh and had the right amount of bounce and chew to them, not overcooked and soggy nor too al dante for ramen. Their pork that I got with my order was tender, flavourful and not overpowered by the yuzu broth. Simply delicious combo! Highly recommend. Also clean interior and very friendly staff.

Yelp
I came here on a Saturday ~2:40pm. Unfortunately, the kitchen closes at 3pm-5pm (which we didn't realize at that time). The hostess kindly suggested that we come back at 5pm. This place is always buzzing with customers. Avoid rush hours if you don't want to wait for too long! Back again on a Thursday night, and finally got to try their Signature Yuzu Ramen, and some seasonal offerings like Corn Kakiage, and Tori Tsukemen aka a ramen with dipping broth! The Yuzu Shio ramen was very light and refreshing. It comes with thin ramen noodles that are made in-house, with ingredients imported from Japan. The noodles do not become soggy in the soup throughout the meal The Tori Tsukemem was my personal favourite. It came soupless but with a cold & light dipping broth, and thick & chewy ramen noodles. The chicken breast slices were very tender and juicy! Also came with a full seasoned egg. I'd come back again to try other ramens! There are vegan options available ^^

Yelp
Really enjoyed this space and the food! Welcomed as soon as you walk into this bright and modern space. They were so helpful in picking out what I wanted. Even let me try a taste of one of their cocktails to see if I actually wanted to order a full glass. I had ramen with extra kakuni because I love this slow braised pork!! Anyway, give it a try! It's brand new and I am curious to try other things they offer! Love the customer service !

Yelp
I have waited 5 years to eat Yuzu ramen again and Afuri has finally touched down in Toronto If you are looking for a strong, saltier broth, this may not be your thing BUT if you're a fan of yuzu (japanese citrus) and lighter chicken broth then u should try! I got the yuzu tsukemen and it was probably my favorite thing we got; the yuzu dipping soup had the strongest yuzu flavour and it was exactly what i was looking for. The noodles were obviously made in house cuz they were so thick and chewy The karaage was good with a very light batter and yuzu mayo dip. Pork gyoza had really thin skin but i thought the meat lacked seasoning, which i didn't expect since it's one of their more popular picks. We came later at night around 930 and most things were still available on their menu which is nice! Service was quick and friendly so no complaints there :) overall, i didn't think the soup was quite on par with what I rmb from Tokyo, but it's definitely one step closer than anything i've tried in Toronto! on our menu: Winged Buta Gyoza (6/10 ) Yuzu Tsuyu (9/10 ) Yuzu Shio Yuzu Ratan Tori Karaage (8/10 )

Yelp
Well done on soup base and the texture of noodles were good. The ramen does need to be served hotter. Egg needs more flavourful. Definitely finish it off with the tofu donuts, SO good and not too sweet.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised to find this new ramen house, and even more so when my food arrived. But before we get to that, I wanted to touch on the environment of this restaurant. Particularly I enjoyed having the open kitchen, the wood touches with a classical feel meshed in with this modern dining experience. The restaurant was clean and the noise level was appropriate, as you can hear yourself think while you enjoy your company and your meal. I ordered the hazelnut broth option, and I was impressed with the thick, rich and flavourful broth when I took my first sip, and this continued until I slurped my last spoonful. The noodles were a new experience for me, I never had them really absorb all of this delicious flavourful broth while maintaining the wit texture. The mushroom and nuts really completed this hardy bowl of ramen. The service was excellent, the staff were knowledgeable, and the food arrived so fast, it's the perfect place to go when your hungry and need something fresh ASAP! I was such a happy customer when I left, so I had to get some take out to continue to enjoy this experience when I got home, so I ordered some Japanese fried chicken and rice. Can't wait to dig in later! Thanks for this delightful experience Afuri!!

Yelp
I always enjoy the ramen here! this is my second time coming here and enjoy the calm open kitchen atmosphere with a great noodle bowl. The appetizers are my favourite part, but I the ramen quality is also so good!

Yelp
Ramen is delicious. Broth could be more intense. Appropriate portion. Impeccable service and atmosphere.

Yelp
Maybe I had too much high expectations before I tried yuzu shio, it was just okay but not impressive or special to me. Both Chashu & kakuni pork were ordinary. However their housemade noodles were excellent though.

Yelp
Love the ramen here. The soups are mostly Yuzu based so they have a refreshing citrusy taste. I usually go for the Yuzu Shio or Yuzu Ratan if I want something spicier. The homemade ginger ale is nice too.

Yelp
This venue is so cute. It has a really beautiful, modern aesthetic and I love the neon lights on the back of the wall that have a fun saying on them. The woman who greeted me and ended up being my server was so friendly and kind. She was really on top of communicating with me and very sweet. I found out that the ramen is different than others because it has yuzu in some the dishes. I got the classic Ramen because I wanted to try to the yuzu. It did give it a nice tangy flavor. The pork was cooked perfectly and the noodles were delicious. You could tell they were fresh. The broth was flavourful, but I didn't have the same depth as some of my other places that I really like going to have. The winged Buddha dumplings were mind blowing. Again you could tell they were fresh. The meat inside was really flavourful and the dipping sauce had so many different flavours as well. I would definitely go back again.

Yelp
Spacious for a Japanese restaurant. I tried the yuzu spicy ramen as suggested by my colleague, but I don't really like the combination. I would probably just try pork ramen if I go back in the future. It did have an unique flavour if you like citrus flavour. I had the yuzu cheesecake at the end as well, but it didn't really have cheese taste to it and I think it could taste the fridge which wasn't pleasant. Another colleague of mine got the matcha ice cream sandwich for dessert, it was much better than the cheesecake, but also not much tea taste. Service was normal speed, I actually understood the English of the waitress as a lot of other Japanese restaurants I couldn't understand the accents.

Yelp
I heard a lot about this new ramen spot in Downtown and decided to check it out. The decor is very clean and bright and servers were nice but some were just standing there when bringing guests to their table. The process could went more smoothly if they are more attentive. I ordered the Yuzu tsukemen and the pork dumpling. The broth does have a strong Yuzu taste to make it refreshing. I liked it but I think there are better options. The dumpling I had I felt was overly done, as it was burnt inside. I think the place can do better to live up to its hype or there are better ramen places in the area.

Yelp
I can't say Afuri Ramen + Dumpling was on my radar at all, but I'm always happy to check out a new ramen joint, so we made our way to the place on a recent Sunday morning. We arrived a little before noon and the restaurant was already about half full. Neither of us was hungry for one of the tasty-sounding appetizers, so I wound up ordering a bowl of the Yuzu Ratan ramen ("spicy shoyu tare, chicken broth, bamboo shoot, frisee, chashu, egg, nori, leeks, chili sesame, yuzu, thin noodle"). The food arrived a short time later and on first glance, it sure looked appetizing. I took my first sips and was immediately surprised by how citrus-forward the broth was. It was maybe a little off-putting at first, but the more I ate, the more it grew on me. The depth of the flavor is pretty epic, to be sure, as I kept discovering more tastes the longer I consumed it. The other components all work really well, and the noodles were cooked just about perfectly. (It's pretty depressing how many ramen places serve soggy, overcooked noodles.) I wasn't crazy about the enormous spoon I was given, but other than that, I enjoyed the heck out of my meal and look forward to returning to try some of their other offerings. (A nearby table ordered dumplings and they looked amazing!)

Yelp
Loved this place! Excellent ramen and fast service. You can tell they cater to a busy lunch crowd but never felt rushed. Food came out quick and scrumptious! Has a college campus kind of vibe to me.

Yelp
Went to this new ramen place downtown. Pros: + Yuzu ramen is flavorful and not too heavy and not too salty. The egg is cooked well, the pork is fatty, and the soup is not too oily. + Eggplant bun is cooked well. + Nice vibe inside. Cons: - Ramen taste might not suit everyone. Different than the typical ramen. - Dumplings were not crispy and were falling apart.

Yelp
Fairly new place in Toronto. Another ramen joint has opened in the city. The ramen noodles are made in house which is a good sign. Yuzu infused ramen. If you are not a fan of Yuzu, you may want to try a different ramen place. Managed to get the last table before a huge lineup started. The atmosphere is nice and refreshing. Doesn't feel like the usual ramen bar. It had the cafe sort of vibe. Tried out the Yuzu Ramen and Tsukemen. Also tried two appetizers that the server recommended. The buta gyoza and Karaage. The food that we were served during our visit was great. It arrived promptly and arrived piping hot. We both liked the Tsukemen over the regular ramen. If you like something with a bit more flavour, I would recommend the Tsukemen over the Yuzu Shoyu Ramen. If you like something subtle the shio or any of the soup ramen stands out. We ended the evening with a matcha miso ice cream sandwich. which is something that was a bit unique from the usual matcha or sesame ice cream flavours. Overall, great experience and great memories. Will return to see if it remains consistent.

Yelp
4stars for food, 3.5 for service. Friendly but inefficient. 2 star foe the space, looks great but no AC Good soup base! Tried the spicy chicken ramen that had some yuzu in it. It was light soup base and east to have even when there is barely any AC on a very warm day. I get it's inflation the slight of meat in our ramen were like a shaving for your cold cut slice. It's not even a proper thick slice for ramen here. Chicken Karage is dark meat rolled up in a ball. Seasoning is good. Not the typical chunk. agedashi tofu had a good lift batter but not true to Japanese style as they use a med-soft tofu instead of a softer silky grade. Servers were friendly even though they are not the most efficient. we were there at lunch, there were 2 floating wait staff that seems to be on strict missions and not checking things in between. I had to flag the manager down for extra bowls and spoon/ mini ladle and he only got us the bowls. I walked over to get an extra ladle. Not sure if we got the right fried buta gyoza since two gyoza came to our table and we told them one came already. They never bother to check if we got the right one just took the second one away. Not sure if we overpaid for the wrong one at the end. I'm sure service will improve after grand opening moment. I will return!
