Everything was delicious that we tried. I don't think anything isn't good on the menu, honestly. We all loved our food and the atmosphere was chill, the art was striking and the wait staff were accommodating to our seating needs having a baby. 10/10 recommend. Happy hour is 3-6 Mon, Wed, Thur & Fri!!

Google
Good margaritas and appetizers. I like that they are open fairly late. They have nightly specials during the week, along with happy hour. The food is different, but good. The only thing I dislike is I frequent here usually about once a month or at least every other month. And every single time I go, the menu is different. They switch up their menus very frequently, I understand that at higher end places. But I don’t think it’s necessary at a taco place.

My Fiancée and I ate at this wonderful restaurant this past Monday. We had Blake as our server. He was an amazing waiter. He was patient and kind. This is the second time in two years that we have eaten here while visiting Louisville. When we visit Louisville we will probably visit Agave and Rye again. The overall atmosphere is relaxed and definitely "hipster" but not in an arrogant way. The drink selection is interesting and wonderfully crafted. Unfortunately I do not remember the names but mine had a flower that you chew and it completely changed the expierence and taste of the drink. We shared the Queso Birria Irish Nachos and the Shrimp Ragoon. The Nachos are a HUGE appetizer. They do not skimp on the toppings. My only wish is if it had consomme with it! The shrimp ragoons have changed since the last time we visited but we still enjoyed them. We each had three tacos eith the Queso blanket. If you are looking for traditional tacos this is not the place but for a different culinary experience I would come here. We will definitely be back!

Google
Food presented well, but it wasn’t very flavorful and a little over priced for what it was. I like Birria Tacos and have tried them at many different places, the ones here were my least favorite, a lot of cheese and not much meat. Atmosphere was unique and fine, the service was mediocre.

My wife, and I decided to order some Door Dash while staying at the Children’s Hospital downtown with our son. We decided to order from Agave & Rye. We paid $60 to have the most disappointing, and downright DISGUSTING order I’ve ever seen. NOTHING came as ordered/advertised aside from the Elotes. My wife ordered an “alderman” taco that the menu advertised as a taco with Carne Asade Steak, street corn, cotija cheese, and spicy chile de arbol salsa….. it came as a few chunks of steak on top of a soggy tortilla. I ordered the “rooster” taco, that had no sauce on it, and a birria burrito. The cup of birria looks like the oil left at the bottom of the pan after the good stuff was scooped out, and was only filled about 1/4. I hesitated to try a bite of the burrito itself, but did anyways just to test my suspicions, and to no surprise it was soggy, bland, and tasted like a gym sock. There was a spot on the bag that said “packed with love by” that the employee who filled our order surprisingly failed to write their name on….. yea, I wouldn’t put my name on that either, but I’m going to take that as an indication that you KNEW what you were doing, but didn’t care enough to do better. Thanks for nothing.

Google
Creative and generous, our taco flights were absolutely delicious and fun to experience. It was difficult to choose only 3 from the many many choices. Our cocktails were legit and the prices seem very fair. 100% would recommend!

Google
Birthday dinner at Agave and Rye was fun and delicious. Their tacos are unique… They had a kangaroo one (we asked and yes it’s actual roo meat..). Our food was very good. Each of us got a taco. I ordered brussel sprouts as an appetizer and they were soooo yummy. I will be back!

Felisa J.

Google
Their drinks and tacos were amazing, and the place is so cool with all the art and decorations, we will definitely be back!

Yelp
Whenever we're in Louisville we always make it a point to come to Agave & Rye! It's packed wall to wall with artwork, unique decor, and the most vibrant murals! Service on previous visits has been good, but last time it wasn't the best. That's okay though, the food made up for it. The Quesa-Birria Irish Nachos were incredible! It was bursting with flavorful braised beef, slathered in queso, and topped with crispy onions. It ended up being so much larger than I thought it was going to be. We didn't even make it to tacos this time around because we were so stuffed! Definitely stopping by again next time we're in town.

Yelp
The food was good as always. The service was slow due to last minute call ins and the bartender bartending and waiting tables. The ambiance was giving Mexican but the music was a variety . Sandra the bartender did the best she could. The drinks were strong! We ordered a pitcher of hot & juicy. So good and so strong. We started off with chips and queso & The shrimp and Rangoon bites. I got a taco flight The Chipotle Chika, The Crown Jewel, & The Bayou Baddie and a French fry duo, which consisted of steak and waffle fries.

Yelp
I had such a lovely Tuesday here after work. First of all, all day half-off margaritas on Tuesday! I asked if I can get mine spicy and it was no problem! Awesome. Kim, my bartender, was super sweet and also mad a damn good drink. Okay, so why have I waited all this time to come here? I thought it was gonna be uber trendy... But it felt down to earth while still being cool. They were playing fun music, everyone seemed to be in a good mood, laughing and enjoying themselves. The art on the walls was beautiful. And they had free video games to play... Which I am a total sucker for. My friend wound up joining me and we had a really nice time. Definitely a cool spot to hang with great daily specials. I wound up, trying the bang bang taco, which is a cauliflower corn veg taco included in their specials on Tuesday. It was big, yummy, and hit the spot.

Yelp
Such a cool atmosphere, the decor is really cool. And boy oh boy is the food good. You get the option of doing a taco flight. You can pick 3 tacos, a little extra if you pick some of the lux tacos. I got the smoke show, the gangsta, and the bomb. My wife got the grilled crispy chicken burrito. We also got the elote. Staff was very attentive.
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
My Taco was missing the meat but the manager Carmen compensated me... They have raised their prices again I've been coming here for about 5 years straight Kim's customer service is exceptional She made me a new Margarita passion fruit and mango delicious my other margarita was strawberry and pear with Tajin Ambiance cool

Yelp
After a baby shower the "girls" in the family got together to have a cocktail and a nibble. The decor is super cute and vibrant. We came here because another very popular Mexican restaurant didn't have a reservation available for the group, and to be honest, after tasting their cocktails and delicious food, I am glad. I got to try a new place and it was great. If I may be honest, I can't remember which cocktail I got because we all kept on rotating the cocktails to taste them. They were all delicious, I recommend any your heart desires. I got the taco flight with The Gangsta, and two The Bang Bang. I am always a little weary of vegetarian tacos since they can sometimes not have that taco flavor we all know and love. The Bang Bang was delicious! The Gangsta also hit the spot. It feels like it was kind of an off day for the server, it felt like she really was meh about helping us and by no means were we impressed, but we all have those kind of days, so it didn't ruin the experience. It's definitely a place I will return to when I go back to Louisville.

Yelp
Back again for lunch today. Service was a little slow but we had everything we needed. Today I tried the Brussels sprouts. They were okay. I would have liked more of the glaze and a bit of salt. I ordered the quesa chicken street tacos. Highly recommend. I always ask for light cheese and it's still a ton of cheese so be advised these bad boys are CHEESY. The vibes are cool. Would be a great place for margs and apps.
google avatar

Deyna J.

Yelp
The positive is the amount of vegetarian options. The jackfruit tacos were great. The other 2 vegetarian tacos I tried The Bang Bang and The Boss Lady were ok. My biggest issue was the margarita, it was bad. It tasted like store bought mix with cheap tequila. The murals and overall aesthetic of the restaurant were festive. We liked the location too and walked to NuLu after.

Yelp
We have been to Agave and Rye many times since it opened a few years ago. It's a very reliably good restaurant that is either slam-packed with a wait, or oddly quiet. And very little in between. We have been twice in the last month: a crowded Friday night and a nearly empty Sunday evening. Both times, I ordered a margarita, which hit the spot. We usually get chips and dip plus one epic taco. Their andouille queso is one of my favorite items, but they didn't appear to be on the menu, so we just went to tacos. I got a flight once, which included the Swipe Right and Plain Jane. I enjoyed getting to try multiple tacos, but I much prefer just getting one epic taco. The Alderman Taco I ordered the last time was excellent. Overall, I really enjoy Agave and Rye, but so do many others. I recommend avoiding dinner time on a Friday unless the patio is open. I think the servers do a great job, but sometimes the crowd can overwhelm even their best efforts. If you go, just be patient, order a drink at the bar and soak in the ambiance until you get a seat.

Yelp
A Louisville staple. A unique take on tacos and desserts with awesome drinks for anybody and everybody.

Yelp
Just another not great experience at Agave & Rye... we came for burger week, were told the wait would be 20-30 mins and waited almost an hour. Ordered our food and waited another 50 mins, our waitress said twice that our food would be right out, and we just kept waiting. We ordered the duo fries, tots and burger week burgers. Fries and tots were fine nothing special, the burgers were dry as we realized they both were missing the ranch and bbq sauce. I asked for ranch and the waitress never returned. Not the first disappointing experience here, would not recommend. Super slow service, meh food and really loud.
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
I should start by disclosing I'm a picky eater. I also get tired of food quickly. But Agave and Rye has had such a hold on me for years. I have a goal of eating everything on the menu because I've never had a bad dish here. A few favorites include the chopped salad, the crispy chicken burrito, anything Birria, and the Rooster. The strawberry margarita, as well, is to die for. The food stands on its own, but the art and interior is so cool as well. Massive murals set the tone. Statues throughout keep the eye interested. I can't say enough good about this place. I've lived in Louisville for years and never found another place I like more.

Yelp
Melody was amazing. She has 5 cats and hot flashes, but she was great! Food was great... Service was great... Really enjoyed the whole night. But once again Melody is an asset (and I'm not related to her)

Yelp
Came here for tacos and it did not disappoint. My favorite part is that the hard shell is surrounded by a soft shell so you get the best of both worlds. I highly recommend any of the tacos but specifically the ones with mac and cheese. The server was nice and quick about our orders. Atmosphere/entertainment note: I came here while the 2025 masters were on and Rory was finishing his round and not a single TV in the place had the tournament on so we had to watch it on our phones. Slightly disappointing but not a huge deal.

Yelp
I'm not a fan of so called "gourmet" taco joints. Most offer standard food, slap on a "gourmet" name and up the price for a tiny street taco. (Yes, I'm talking to you Torchy's & wannabes). Agave & Rye never got that memo. Our group of 12 was promptly greeted. Drink orders were taken and menus delivered. What a menu! Everything from Kangaroo to Lobster. The Crown Jewel was an exceptional lobster taco. Break lobster. Lots of chunks from claw & tail. If you're a lobster fan, it's easy to swallow the $15tab. My "return of the Mac" was delicious. A regular burger patty lies flat on a tortilla and then they fill it with cheese, lettuce, tomato & guacamole. It's a "one and done". My wife couldn't finish her Filthy Fajita. My son in law went with a bacon wrapped hotdog and my daughter-in-law went with the crown Jewel. These are seriously large tacos. One to an order, ranging from $8-$15. You won't need more than one. BTW, the best darn queso and salsa I had in years. Great stick to your chip consistency. With great flavor. The salsa was chunky, flavorful. Both absolutely terrific. Both served in large bowls. I understand there's an Agave & Rye in New Albany. There's a visit coming in the near future.

Yelp
Isaiah was the best server ever! He told us about everything on the menu we asked about in detail. Prompt! Tacos were amazing as usual. Will return!

Yelp
Tacos and Whiskeys !! We stopped into Agave and Rye for some tacos and drinks while we were in the area. We sat outside on the patio with tables and umbrellas to block the sun on a warm sunny day. Our server was attentive and we got our drinks and food fairly quickly as the restaurant started filling up with more guests for lunch. I ordered one of my favourites, the Birria with slow-braised beef sprinkled with guajillo chillies, Oaxaca cheese, cilantro, onion, and dipping consommé. The tacos were more filling than they looked and the tender braised beef was delicious. We washed down our lunch with some drinks and then went on our way to our next adventure. Agave and Rye not only has a great menu but a wide array of libations to cater to any crowd.

Yelp
Always a win here! Brought my mom and grandma here first lunch on a Saturday. Rob greeted us quickly and was so friendly. My mom and I opted for our usual, the swipe right and always the elote for the table. My grandma ordered a kids hamburger and fries. The decor is so festive and lifts your spirits as soon as you walk in. The patio is the best in warmer weather.

Yelp
Love this place, we visited a few times when we were in Louisville, the lobster taco is elite!

Yelp
Katelyn, an amazing waitress Attentive and personable Orders street tacos, queso, chips And an epic OG Marg I can say amazing service, ambiance, and food 5 star review, couldn't be happier since arriving here, I'm totally full and smiling ear to ear 4/2025

Yelp
This is just an update. Food is still great. This time around, we were seated on the other side of the building. The room is packed with free arcade games. Got my pac-man game in while waiting on my meal. Loved the hip hop music that they were playing. It was a full house like expected but we got there within a good time, didn't have to wait at all for a table.

Yelp
Had lunch with a client today at the Bardstown Rd location today. New menu started today along with lots of the original menu. Tacos were amazing, queso was fantastic and the service was impeccable! It is a must try restaurant! Highly recommend!

Yelp
I have mixed feelings about this place. There are some things I really liked and others I didn't like at all. The atmosphere is noisy and fun yet rundown and dirty feeling. The service was very friendly, but not fast or accurate. The food was interesting and creative, but not delicious or even well executed. Here are a few highlights from our visit: --Free classic arcade games were a lot of fun, and makes it easy to bring kids here. --The menu is not easy to read. I still don't know if calling something "epic" means it is better, different or bigger. --Drinks were pretty good, and we liked the way the orange liqueur floaters were delivered in their own skull-themed shot glass. --The tacos were so-so. Chicken taco came out ice-cold, and the steak taco was a fatty mess. I recommend the "smoke show" pulled pork taco, that was pretty good. Overall, there is so much cheese, crema and other toppings that you lost track of what the meat was supposed to be. --The salad had cheese when we asked for no cheese, and the chicken on the salad was missing entirely. --The ghost pepper salsa was a real highlight. I would come back here just for this and take containers of it to-go as often as I could. One last note: We were over-charged a round of drinks; it was fixed, but worth paying attention to.

Yelp
Food was awesome. We had two flights of tacos and all 6 were very tasty. Server was very good and attentive!

Yelp
We sat at the bar and had an AMAZING experience with Kim in the Louisville location! The drinks, the food, the vibes were ! Highly recommended!

Yelp
I tried this taco spot and loved the creative combos. First time having a hard shell wrapped in soft--really fun texture! The IslanderBanger- Coconut Shrimp taco with coconut shrimp and mango salsa was fresh and tasty. Bang Bang taco had great flavor, but the cauliflower-corn fritters lost their crunch a bit--crispy carrots helped though. The standout was the Rooster taco--Nashville hot chicken with mac and cheese. So good, I'd come back just for that. Tacos are pricey ($9-12 each) for the size, but the flavor creativity makes up for it.

Lisa P.

Yelp
Are at the one in Dayton. Super cheerful staff and food and drinks were good. Stopped in at the Louisville one. Almost 4 on a Saturday. Restaurant looked deserted. Hostess not overly friendly. Told us a 20-30 minute wait. There was not a single person sitting at any seat in the bar. I asked if we could sit in the bar. Nope. No bartender. We elected to leave because the hostess was super blah and we assumed if you weren't seating open seating and had no bartender do to be "short staffed" we've wait forever and pay for subpar food and drinks.
google avatar

Gregg M.

Yelp
Great spot, friendly staff and service. The margarita's were made with fresh squeezed juice, but could have a bit more tequila in them. Overall, quite tasty. The tacos are interesting. They are a flour she'll 'en-queso'd' around a hard shell with the various options. I chose the kangaroo and enjoyed it. Beef like with a hint of gaminess. Would eat again.
google avatar

Sherri T.

Yelp
Pros: a lot of unique options. Not your traditional fair. The latte is probably the best item on the menu. A little spicy for those who are sensitive to heat. The Crown jewel which is macaroni and cheese and lobster was delicious but a little on the heavy side. Cons: the wait staff here, including bartenders are absolutely horrendous. A few weeks ago, we sat at the bar and the bartender literally acted like we were bothering her. We went this past weekend with friends, and our waiter was awful. We had to get his attention to order a second round of drinks and when we were finished and he asked us if we were all set, we said yes, and he just walked away. Rather than clearing the plates from our table, we sat with dirty dishes in front of our table until we flagged him down again to ask for our checks. Waiting at least 10 minutes to pay our bills. We ended up walking to the bar to pay them ourselves because he never came back to take our credit cards. We were a small group of 4. I can't imagine how long it would take to get anything with a larger group. If you don't mind terrible service, the food is pretty good.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Loved the decor as soon as I walked in the door. Very friendly staff. My server Savannah was great. 'The Crown Jewel' was the best taco ever. It had lobster, mac and cheese, shiitake mushrooms, onions... AMAZING!

Lisa M.

Yelp
Excellent! Fresh food and edgy vibe! Get the fries!! So yummy! Lots of vegetarian options too!

Sharon M.

Yelp
Eclectic! Deliciouly, unique. Love the taco setups. First was best. Not sure return trips are the thrill. Always suspect my menu choices. Second time ordered a rerun, not so good.
google avatar

Melissa W.

Yelp
We had a rough visit to Agave and Rye on Wednesday, April 20. We were greeted upon entry but that was the last thing we received. Apparently A&R only had 2 servers on staff and they were drowning. At least the food was good. We never received napkins or silverware.

Beth V.

Yelp
Excellent all the way around- service, food, drinks - really unique tacos, not basic by any stretch. Great vegetarian options
google avatar

Maeve V.

Yelp
Amazing food! Server, Faith, was terrific and very responsive to our needs:-) If we lived in Louisville, it would be one of our favorite places.

Carrie L.

Yelp
Ten out of ten! The waitress was fantastic. The food was fantastic. The atmosphere. The price. HIGHLY recommend!

Michele M.

Yelp
For a chain restaurant, it was amazing! Which Buffalo had one. The vibe here is so fun. They had a back room with video games. The staff was fun and friendly. The food was so good. Large tacos, full of flavor. They have mexician dogs, hear me out so good!!! They have a great cocktail selection with a fully stocked bar. I absolutely loved it here. The taco selections are amazing. You will find a taco for everybody. Highly recommed skipping the nachos and queso app and going for the birria Irish nachos! Thank me later. Loved it so much here that I had to buy a T-shirt.
google avatar

Ross Y.

Yelp
Amazing unique Mexican American cuisine. The Elote was the reason we went and is the reason we will return. The deep fried elote deviled eggs were so good! We had 6 different tacos in all. Each one so different and good.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
I have been to the two Lexington locations previously but yesterday was my first time at this location and I had a great experience. I definitely like the vibe here more so than the Lexington ones, particularly the one at Fayette Mall. I can't remember our server's name but she was responsive and attentive without being overbearing. I had the Green Goddess tacos which had brussell's sprouts and they were crispy and delicious. My date and I shared chips and salsas--the chunky and the ghost pepper. I loved the chunky salsa but the ghost pepper was too spicy for me to truly enjoy, and I like spicy food. Overall, the food was delicious, the vibe was chill, and the service was excellent.
google avatar

Phillip S.

Yelp
Food was excellent! Drinks were great too! No wait and fast friendly service. Would certainly recommend.

Yelp
Come here for your birthday! All the food and desserts are amazing! Service was awesome too

Yelp
My girlfriend and I stopped for dinner last night during Louisville restaurant week. I'd eaten here years ago, and not had a super memorable experience (good or bad). The meal we had last night was bad. Like, really bad. We ordered from the pre fixe menu and got one additional jumbo taco and app to split. I'm not joking when I say every single thing tasted stale and like it had come out of a microwave. The shrimp appetizer specifically tasted like it had some kind of spoiled meat in it. We also ordered the "new fashioned" cocktail which was overly sweet and syrupy. It's not often that I feel compelled to write a Yelp review, but this was a rough experience. Can't recommend this place at all if this is the current quality level.

Candy T.

Yelp
I used to love Agave& Rye and have always enjoyed great food and service, often ordering a lot each time. But my last two visits have been absolutely terrible. Most recently, I came in on a date with a friend, and we were completely ignored after being seated. We waited at least 20 minutes with no water, no menu, no acknowledgment from the staff. To make it worse, people who arrived after us were being served promptly. This wasn't just poor service -- it was downright disrespectful. This is the second time I've had to walk out because of such terrible treatment. I've been embarrassed and frustrated, especially since I had recommended this place to friends. I'm honestly shocked by how badly the service has deteriorated. Until management fixes this, I can't recommend this restaurant at all.

Erika K.

Yelp
BE CAREFUL TIPPING THE SERVERS!!! They sneak an automatic gratuity on the bill and don't tell you about it so they get double the tip. The food was very average.
google avatar

Dana W.

Yelp
This my first time to Louisville! My friend recommended this place and let me say.. I was not disappointed! The service was amazing... Carmen, the manager, and Rob, our server made sure we had an amazing time. The ambiance was a vibe... and chips & guac and tacos were delicious!!
