City of Kent Helps Local Restaurants Put Up Tents Around Outdoor Seating | Eater Seattle

"Julian Ramos, owner of Agave Cocina and Cantina, said having the tented seating and heaters available for the next few months will be a big plus for everyone, as his restaurant is one of the popular Kent Station spots benefiting from the city-supported winterization effort." - Gabe Guarente

I recently visited this Mexican restaurant and had a great experience. The quesadillas were definitely the highlight—perfectly crispy on the outside, generously filled, and packed with flavor. The menu offers a good variety of dishes, making it a great spot to try different Mexican flavors. However, I did notice that the vegetarian options were somewhat limited. The prices were reasonable, especially considering the portion sizes, which were quite satisfying. It’s also a great place for gatherings, with a welcoming atmosphere and plenty of seating. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly Mexican spot with tasty food and a lively vibe, this place is worth checking out!

Walked into Agave late on a Saturday night with low expectation and honestly, not many other options. What I ordered: Chile Relleno – My go-to at most Mexican spots these days. Served hot with beans (no rice, since theirs is cooked with chicken stock. I’m vegetarian). Taste-wise? No complaints. It hit the spot. But for $20, just one chile relleno? The portion felt underwhelming. The complimentary salsa was a nice touch- flavorful and fresh. Ambience was okay, and service was decent. Would I go back? Probably not. Nothing terrible, but not compelling enough for a second visit either.

Came for belated Father's Day Dinner, the Monday after. First time here. My son and husband ordered the same thing Traditional Carne Asada. I had the Cameron's Mexicanos. They were both very delicious!!! Sorry.... dove into our food! But here is a glimpse of it. We will definitely be back!!

Google
I always love coming to this authentic Mexican restaurant — the food is consistently delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. But what really makes this place special is the amazing service and personal touch. On my last visit, there was a small mix-up with my order, and the manager, Pepe, immediately stepped in to make it right. Not only did he fix it quickly with a smile, but he actually remembered me from a previous visit! That kind of attention and care really means a lot. To my surprise, Pepe even gave me my next order for free as a gesture of goodwill. I was blown away by how kind and thoughtful that was. It made me feel truly acknowledged and appreciated as a customer. I’m extremely grateful for the way I was treated — it’s rare to find that level of genuine hospitality these days. Every time I come here, I leave happy and full. Thank you for always making my family’s experience so wonderful. I’ll definitely be coming back again and again! 🌮❤️

Google
My wife and I have been eating here for about 5 years. The food has always tasted fresh. We usually get fajitas and another entree to share. This is our preferred spot, as the restaurant has been consistently delicious. I’ve included photos of the steak fajitas and the California burrito.

Google
Only been once, for a work related outing so I was already in a bad mood. This is relevant because I had an AMAZING time. The birria cheesesteak was an inspired menu offering. So gat dang filling I didn't even eat dinner later. 😂 And our server Maria is incredible. Witty, funny, snarky. Loved her presence.

Google
$20 restaurant week is a great deal. Best complimentry chips and salsa with 3 different options. Steak and egg burrito was a little bland but complemented we with the salsa and pico, surf and turf was great but the sauce was split and greasy on the top. Flan was the real downside, firm, dense and almost chewey. You can feel the texture of the mold it came out of. Great value even outside of restaurant week though

Google
We stopped in for happy hour, only 3 people in the bar and the service was friendly but very slow. Food was OK, chicken was very dry. Menu says 8.95 for a glass of wine but they charged me 12 a glass. This is not the first time they have over charged on my bill

Yelp
Agave is deceptively large inside, despite a the small storefront in a strip mall. The trick is that it has not a front and a rear entrance. I went straight to the cantina in back, where I passed through the restaurant portion which was very welcoming. The cantina had roll up windows, a more intimate atmosphere, big screen TV's and some great Mexican music playing. The food came very fast and was very good. Even the chips and salsa was above average. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because they never mentioned their specials, nor were they listed anywhere near the bar. I knew they had them since they're on their website and they will tell you then if you ask - so make sure to ask. UPDATE: I'm giving them 5 stars since I did find a table top with their specials!

Yelp
They are charging a fee of $3.50 if you use a credit card to pay for your meals and drinks. We really like the place but they raise prices all the time then this happens. I'm not happy with a service fee on top of the bill.....we will not go being going back.

Yelp
Consistently good food in a nice space with good service. Can't go wrong with a lunch at Agave.

Yelp
My new fav. Only thing missing is the band Art work matched the delicious food Is there a link to buy the art? Servers immediately brought out lots of salsa for the fam. Oh yeah, best horchata I've ever had too!
google avatar

Yelp
Nice family place, good food, spacious restaurant. Staff was welcoming and done a great job

Yelp
Agave offers quality Mexican food in a nice setting on the East side. Chips that are fresh and aren't greasy, served with 3 different kinds of salsa. I ordered carnie asada and camarones combo. Carnie Asada was perfectly done, shrimp was clean and large. No wilted or brown lettuce! Refried beans that didn't come out of cans. We love their Diablo Wings. Delicious sauce that is to die for. I grew up in Southern California with abundance of authentic Mexican food. While Agave is not quite that level, it did hit the spot and we really enjoyed the wonderful service from the friendly wait staff.

Yelp
The happy hour options are really good and the margaritas are super good. The food came out decently quick

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner and had a great meal. Servers were helpful and knowledgeable about the menu offering great suggestions. The atmosphere is cozy and pleasant, a good buzz about it, but not overwhelming. The dishes were delicious as were the cocktail and beer choices. My meal choice was the steak salad, cooked perfectly, quite a large portion too. Paired with a local Hazy IPA, double good!
google avatar

Izzie M.

Yelp
A very cozy and intimate place. The staff were very kind and attentive. The food was amazing and the mango margarita was very delicious!

Yelp
The food is good with noticeable ingredient quality. The atmosphere is a bit weird depending on the time of day. We had been there for lunch before, and really enjoyed it. The dining room and restrooms were clean and the place is comfortable. This time, we went for dinner. We were going for the dining room first but noticed some really harsh, bright lighting that we never noticed at lunchtime; likely because of natural light coming in. Because of this bright lighting, we decided to try the bar area. Oddly, the bar area was playing dance remixes loudly--like level 8 on the dial. We tried one high-top table and it was too loud to talk so we moved towards the back of the room where there is a long booth. The music was still loud but more tolerable at that location. Still, I simply don't get the party music at a Mexican restaurant--or any restaurant--at that sound level. The Dodger/Mets playoff game was on the TV's which we were happy about but couldn't hear, obviously. The bar has more intimate lighting but not too dark. There seemed to be the barkeep and one server working the room. Service was friendly and competent. Prices are a bit high here, compared to many restaurants of this type around the area. Maybe 15% higher, with a basic burrito (with rice/beans) costing $17-$19. I didn't see any a'la Carte choices on the menu. That said, the higher price is worth it for the quality. They also offer a cash discount. Service was great but they are oddly skimpy with salsa refills, as if they're told not to bring too much. Our server was thorough verifying our requests which I appreciated. He probably couldn't hear us clearly with the loud music blaring. All in all, I recommend this place and will definitely be back for lunch, and will try dinner again to see if this was an off night.

Yelp
Such friendly and attentive service with delicious food. Complimentary trio of salsas offered a wide variety of flavors and spice levels and was appreciated!
google avatar

Paige N.

Yelp
One of our favorites when we used to live here, a must-go when we're visiting! Love the variety in the menu -- healthy fare, plus traditional Mexican favorites. The Seafood Enchiladas are my go-to (but the Warm Spinach salad is excellent too!). Abundance of tables, including larger settings for groups. Their bar is top notch, plus the service is great in both areas.
google avatar

Yelp
Whoa!! With my receipt in hand, I have proof this restaurant overcharged me, either fraudulently, or through incompetence. Either way, stay far away from this restaurant. My bill was $45.77. I left a $9 tip. Total should be $54.77. My credit card was charged $61.76. Hardly the fraud of the century, but the overcharge amount isn't the point! The point is it happened at all!! BE WARNED and stay away from this restaurant. The food was crap too, but I could care less about the quality of the meal. The integrity of this establishment has earned them a 1-star review multiple times over.

Yelp
Came here for a business meeting. This was my first visit. I had carne asada with shrimp added. The steak was cooked well when I asked for medium rare. Besides that, the food tasted all right. Tortillas were store bought though instead of housemade. They weren't busy but took a long time to take drink orders. Then, the shrimp was missing from both of our orders and had to ask for that to come out. This arrived when we were both about halfway finished eating with a lot of talking. Had to ask for the check. Weren't asked if we wanted more tortillas.

Clayton J.

Yelp
Been here at least once before, maybe twice. Both times for Happy Hour and it was decent. Just had tortilla soup and although not life changing, it was clearly good enough for me to return. On this trip, I had a full meal. I had planned to get the Carne Asada, but chose to save $8 and try the Carnitas. It was a lot of food and I honestly just barely put it away, however, I've had much better. I tend to like fried carnitas, or the chunks that I can mash down with a fork. There were juicy and had some fat content, but my issue was the favor. They were slightly sweet. I don't care for sweet with my meet. I like a salty savory meat, even smokey when it comes to Mexican. This certainly wasn't the worse carnitas I've had, but I also wouldn't return for them. I'm finding sugar in too many places I don't expect it and I guess for those that can't handle heat, salt or spice it's an alternative, but as someone who have been to Mexico and all over the south, I've never had sweet carnitas, although I have heard of regions that so add sugar to their meats, I didn't care for it.

Elena K.

Yelp
I love agave! I've been coming here forever and the carne asada has never done me wrong. The service is always very fast and friendly and the food comes out pretty quick. The carne asada is salty and juicy with perfectly crispy edges. Free chips and salsa is a must for me and they make sure to give you it even if you get takeout. The rice is amazing never dry. 10/10 recommend

Yelp
I have been here a few times and have always been pleased when Ty the food, service and ambiance. Flavorsome and hearty portions and courteous service. The place itself is very beautiful and visually appealing. I have nothing but good things to say. Definitely worth checking out!!
google avatar

Alison L.

Yelp
Food is so so. I found a huge bone in my taquitos. I sent them a message on facebook and they never bothered to respond. Customer Service is lacking.
google avatar

Yelp

Yelp

Yelp
I'd say YUM YUM to this hidden Gem that I drive by all the time. I love chips and salsa and they give you 4 salsas!!!! I went back 3 days in a row. Service was stellar as expected. Ambiance is normal with
google avatar

Nena S.

Yelp
Love the vibe of agave it's always fun at the bar! Drinks are made well! And the food is good too! Our bartender is always on top of it! And recommends drinks to try!
google avatar

Reiben L.

Yelp
After the food came, some of the food was already cold. it seemed like it was a big deal to get a refill on the drinks. the bathroom had rude carvings in the side of the stalls. After I was done I had a terrible food poisoning case.
google avatar

Yelp
Enjoyed lunch at Agave Cocina & Cantina with family. Casual, comfortable Mexican decor and music, with accommodating, efficient staff. Moderately priced Mexican fare. I thought the chimichanga was especially good. They have an interesting breakfast/brunch menu too and a nice list of specialty drinks and beers. Recommended!
google avatar

Carly C.

Yelp
You know, I'm not sure what's up with the poor ratings on here. I tried here tonight with my husband. All we stopped for was drinks - but what I can report on is that we enjoyed our drinks throughly, the chips and salsa that came with it were crispy end good! And the service was really pleasant. If anything I didn't like the loud and coughing table next to us. And so I wish they would have seated us further away, but besides that... (which isn't even really their fault) I would say this is an adorable and clean spot, and I would like to come back for happy hour.

Yelp
a great place to hang out with friends and you can expect very nice and friendly service

Yelp
My family and I were looking for some place to eat in the Redmond area and my husband mentioned he was craving for some good Mexican food and remembered this place. Staff was very friendly and we were seated right away (restaurant did not have many people) They start giving you three different types of salsa plus the chips, just like the majority of the Mexican restaurants, which is something I LOVE. They also have a paper printed kids menu with activities and brand new crayons for my daughter :) I ordered the tack salad with grilled steak and my husband ordered the hard ground beef tacos with rice and beans. Food came pretty quickly and we also got an extra plate for my little daughter. My husband's tacos was good. However when I tried his rice and beans, the beans tasted old. My taco salad was just ok. It did not have any salsa and was tasteless. I had to ask for some mild salsa it order to add some taste. The meat was good. A little burn but good. I did not like the cheese choice at all. Not sure if it was cotija or parmesan cheese but it was also tasteless and the portion was very very small. The guacamole was pretty good which was a plus. Also the hard shell of my taco salad was cold. It it not taste very fresh either. I am really not sure I am coming back here for another try.
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
We really wanted to like Agave'. The location in Redmond is convenient, along with the parking and access. The Happy Hour menu looked good with good pricing. The first thing to notice is the rating in the window. "Good" not "Excellent." That's the first clue. Second clue is the cleanliness of the outside patio tables. They are filthy. Generational filth. This is not a spill from today, this is salsa stuck in the cracks from three weeks ago. They need to spray these tables and use a brush. If I wasn't with a group of people - I would have left right then. If this is what the "front of the house" looks like, I can only imagine the kitchen. Our server was fantastic. She really was great. That's the only reason for the three stars. One of the meals was 15 minutes later from the rest of the group. Out of politeness, of course we all waited. No comp. No 1/2 off. Nothing. The food was OK. Didn't feel great afterwards. Overall, not a great experience. I don't really see myself going back. There are many other choices out there.

Yelp
The restaurant food is Great the customer service was the waitress VIVI was amazing super friendly and very catering to us will defiantly return here when we're back in town

Diana M.

Yelp
Our favorite Mexican restaurant, hands down! We live in Monroe but we prefer to get Agave in Redmond whenever we get the chance :)
google avatar

Katie P.

Yelp
Agave continues to be one of my favorite restaurants on the Eastside to satiate a craving for affordable Mexican food. I've ordered these dishes over the years and enjoyed all of them: - Agave Enchiladas with shredded beef - Empanadas - Classic Taco Salad - Enchiladas Blancas The portions are reasonably sized and flavorful. I've also consistently had outstanding service during every visit. The waitstaff are attentive, friendly, and constantly checking in to see if they can provide a chips and salsa refill.
google avatar

Sarah A.

Yelp
What more can you ask for in your local Mexican spot? Fresh grilled fish, plentiful chips and salsa and friendly service. They have a full bar but are also super family friendly. We've been going here for years and it never disappoints! Easy, casual, fresh and friendly. Love it. Go in for what it is; a well done, friendly, local mexi/American restaurant. I love how family friendly it is, with really lovely service. It's a great option close to where we live.
google avatar

G G.

Yelp
The food is probably the most bland of any Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten at. The waiters are like sales people trying to get you to buy their expensive drinks to pump up the bill, bot because they care about your experience. I gave this place three tries but as the saying goes, three strikes and your out. Not going back.
google avatar

Mahak M.

Yelp
One of my favorite Mexican dishes! Check out this spot for great comfort food and even better sides! They know how to make brussel sprouts taste good and mashed potatoes somehow even better!
google avatar

Chris A.

Yelp
We've always gotten good food here. We usually do takeout and everything is packaged well. Seems like it's a couple of bucks more expensive than, say, Santa Fe in Kirkland:. Or maybe I just haven't gotten used to the $20 enchilada plate yet.
google avatar

Coleen P.

Yelp
Very good happy hour and great prices! Upon seating, they will serve you the house salsa and chips which were really delicious! Our server was very attentive and friendly. Quick service. The birria taco was a highlight for me! Would come again.
google avatar

Naomi Z.

Yelp
I'm surprised by the low reviews! The salsa and chips were delicious, the chimichanga burrito, my husband inhaled it and I had the taco salad. Taco salad was good but not amazing. The kids menu is cute, the taco with rice and beans was average, but kids ate it. The atmosphere/decor is lovely. Place seems really clean. Service was good. We'll be back!
google avatar

Mia Z.

Yelp
We stopped here today for brunch. Food is decent! They have a great brunch menu. I'd say it's a good balance with American brunch and Mexican food. Chilaquiles is great for brunch and sopes is a more authentic dish to try.

Hattie H.

Yelp
Their food was very good and the personnel working there were very helpful and friendly !
google avatar

Theo B.

Yelp
Agave serves freshly prepared salads and accommodates my dietary restrictions. Service is usually friendly but can be very slow. The prices seem rather high for the amount of food you get. The water glasses they placed on the tables were frequently dirty. I'd ask for a different glass.
google avatar

James J.

Yelp
Best tortilla soup I have had in the area, great salsa, the green is hot! Big beers available, ALL THEIR FOOD IS AWESOME
google avatar

Lenore G.

Yelp
This place has never ever gotten a take out order right. The service is terrible and they do not care. I suggest going anywhere else but here.
google avatar

Christopher T.

Yelp
Delicious cold beer. The server and bartenderess were grumpy that we left our table to order our drinks at the bar. So much for being grateful for paying customers.
google avatar

Jeremy C.

Yelp
Food has gone downhill since I've been a couple years ago. My enchiladas were dry and cold. Server service was ok. Manager on duty when we went wasn't great. We brought a coupon from The Butler at Home book we get mailed. They denied it saying it was for their other restaurant. Even though on the coupon it doesn't specify it's just for one of the restaurants. It shows both restaurants equally on the coupon and doesn't say anywhere on it that it's just for the other restaurant. Poor customer service by the manager to not honor it. It would've been about an $8 discount to save themselves a bad review.
google avatar

Bunny A.

Yelp
I'm not a big fan of local Mexican food but my kids love it so I can always find something I like to eat. Only this week I was very disappointed. I ordered 6 tacos for my son and paid over $30! Usually I pay, at other places, about $4.50 for 2 tacos so this was a big shock for me.

Scott M.

Yelp
Great food! Great service ! Vey clean and great decor inside. Check this place out if you like great food!
google avatar

Julia L.

Yelp
Came one day for lunch and ordered some fish tacos. They let me pick two sides, and I just picked corn for both. The tacos were alright, nothing super special. They were not soggy but not super crisp either. The corn lacked flavor - tasted like plain canned corn.
google avatar

Dee M.

Yelp
We got the chips and dips, california burrito and a blanca enchilada. We liked the food a lot especially the wood fired chicken.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
Went in for an early dinner on a Friday and got seated right away. They brought chips and a variety of salsas to our table. The chips were thick, oily and had a burnt flavor. We didn't eat them. I ordered the Carne Asada soft tacos and he had the Enchilada Suiza. We both had rice and beans for our side. We both cleaned our plate, delicious! They also have quite the variety of drinks- he ordered a Margarita. I sadly forgot my ID so I only got to look at the menu :D
