Came for Taco Tuesday... stayed for the flavor!
Swung by Agave Social after work, and while the place was buzzing with post-office energy, I lucked out with a spot at the bar. There was already a waitlist forming, which is always a good sign. Ordered a Negra Modelo, took in the atmosphere - music was playing at a mellow volume beneath the hum of conversation, and a few TVs were on, but it didn't feel like a sports bar. Just the right balance.
From the folks behind Craft Street Kitchen, Shaker & Peel, and Zim Zari, I expected solid food--and Agave delivered.
It was Taco Tuesday, so I went all in. Tacos are a la carte, mix and match, no substitutions. I got four tacos for $13.50, which felt like a great deal considering the creativity and quality.
Here's the breakdown:
Hot Honey Heat (House Favorite)
Buttermilk fried chicken, habanero honey, garlic pepper aioli, pickles, and corn slaw on a flour tortilla.
Crispy, sweet-heat perfection. 10/10
Notorious P.I.G.
Pulled pork, agave BBQ, jalapeño slaw, garlic pepper aioli, and salt & vinegar chips on a corn tortilla.
Tasty, but the flavors didn't pop as much. 7/10.
Deep South Grouper
Tajin beer-battered gulf grouper, cabbage, jalapeño aioli, tomatillo chow-chow, and hot Takis on a corn tortilla.
Spicy with great texture and crunch. 8/10
Double Barrel Brisket
Smoked brisket, tequila-agave BBQ sauce, slaw, jalapeño, aioli, and crispy onions on a corn tortilla.
Bold, smoky, and layered. 10/10
Overall, Agave Social is a must-visit for taco lovers. Great atmosphere, creative food, and solid service. I'll definitely be back to try more.
