Where To Drink Margaritas in Denver

"Agave Taco Bar in Wash Park houses a killer patio and equally excellent margaritas. Made with fresh-squeezed juices and 50-plus tequila choices, cocktail options here include the watermelon margarita, the Rosa margarita made with prickly pear or the Guavarita with guava and coconut water." - Camila Navarrette, Eater Staff

Great tacos and margaritas! The Birria taco was so delicious and I loved that the seafood tacos come on squid ink infused tortillas! They have plenty of gluten free options and all the varieties of margaritas we tried were wonderful. Also loved the prices, it’s way more affordable than a lot of places in Denver! And the quality for the price, just can’t beat it

This is my third time with this restaurant, and I can say its a solid establishment The first time, I ordered an Al Pastor burrito to go, and I was highly disappointed. It was like 50% beans and 50% rice. And the beans felt fake and so thick. However, this second and third time I went back, I actually sat down in the beautiful outdoor Colorado weather. I loved the look of the location, especially for late-night dates. That Latino aesthetic really makes for a fun environment. The food was absolutely spectacular and the drinks were alright! It was very pricey and not a vast selection, but I still liked it I plan to come again for the food and hopefully I will have a better experience

Google
Beautiful restaurant, misters outside if it’s hot, the bar is nice, and the service is great. The El Pastor is um…. Odd. At first we thought it was the wrong order. Everything else looked great and they have a great happy hour. Definitely recommend, avoid the el pastor.

Natalia Patterson

Google
Great dog friendly patio. Lamb Birria taco was definitely our favorite, and we both thought the Al Pastor was missing pineapple chunks. The place is very affordable, for 6 tacos and a margarita we paid $56 with a tip. We will be back

Google
We came for dollar taco Tuesday. Four tacos on the menu for the dollar price, other tacos are up to 4.50. No complaints from my boyfriend and I, as we got full from that dollar menu selection alone --they have a pork, chicken and two vegetarian tacos. They have entree and great appetizer options, too. Greatly enjoyed the spiked agua fresca drinks that you can choose what liquor to add. Our bartender Jake, made a busy happy hour look easy. Great service!

Google
Great vibe, house marg is solid. Chips, salsa, and the tacos leave something to be desired. If they upped their flavor game, they would be top tier in Denver. --- Update The tacos are SO much better now. Major upgrades

Google
These tacos hit all the right spots *slow clap* the nachos were loaded, the chips and salsa bangin, and the service was muy bueno ( Spanish for freaking awesome)! My Spanish may suck but this place definitely doesn’t! Great service and just as good food! Adios and andale arriba your self over there.

Google
Cute little gem of a restaurant. I’ve only gone on Tuesdays when they have delicious dollar (yes, DOLLAR) tacos and their happy hour specials on margaritas, tequila, and appetizers (nachos are $5 and absolutely to die for) are amazing as well! It gets pretty crowded and service gets slow around peak dinner time on special nights, but that is to be expected. Nice patio and convenient locations next to the Gaylord Street shops. I am always very satisfied with my experience here!

Yelp
Well, a year later, life brought us back to Denver; we were so excited to visit our favorite spot and this time our experience was not what we remembered from the previous year. Staff was friendly but Val, our favorite assistant manager was gone and the food was nothing like before. - Waiter was super friendly, but, was not familiar with the menu, at all! I asked for tacos, just the way they were named and listed on their menu and she didn't seem to be familiar with the names or the ingredients. My husband asked for a Margarita that wasn't listed on the menu but was advertised on their screens as the "Lucky Margarita". We ordered one and she said they didn't have that, even when we tried to show her the screen. The manager finally confirmed it was available and we got it. Margarita was good. -As an appetizer we ordered the chips, salsa and guacamole. Guac was decent, salsas ok but, as soon as we tried the pico de gallo, we noticed it was spoiled. It was even bubbly. We called the waiter and told her the pico was bad but didn't need more just wanted her to know so they would stop serving it to the other guests. Well, that did not happen because we saw another guest return the pico, the staff finally smelled it and next time you know someone walks out with a huge container with pico. -Our food was bland; the tortillas were cold, the pastor we raved before was now ok. Tinga taco was mediocre and the nopales and pork taco was salty and not good. I do have to say the Taco Zona Rosa was good, the barbacoa was authentic. My kids pozole was not good at all and broth was thick and blah. Overall, compared to our first two times we were here last year, pretty disappointed. I am pretty sure the chef is not the same person, the food and the attention to detail is not good. Sadly, we won't be returning. Our bill was $88 plus tip. We spent a little bit over $100.

Yelp
Cute and casual taco spot with a nice patio! Inside is super small so be prepared for a wait if you come at a popular time. Service is quick and food is delicious! Loved their queso and Al pastor tacos.

Piper S.

Yelp
Look at my plate. That's enough said... YUMMMM (carne asada street tacos) Also service was very attentive and kind! We will definitely be back to sit on the porch it was lovely!

Scot P.

Yelp
Terrible. We will miss theoriginal Agave Taco for a very long time based on our experience. Where do you start. honestly? Just skip this new version of the old. No cointreau for a coin marg, no Grand Marnier, no limes for the great fresh lime Margherita mix. Rap music in the background. Seriously? No management working to witness this version.

Yelp
After a couple happy hour & Taco Tuesdays at Agave Taco Bar, I must say that I'm a pretty big fan of it! It's in the cute Bonnie Brae/South Gaylord neighborhood on the stretch of small shops and restaurants.. parking can be challenging but it's easy to find a block or so away. Agave has a great patio & parklet with ~10 tables for outdoor dining. Inside has a cute bar with 5-6 stools and a few tables too. The menu is small, mostly taco focused (as the name implies) but they have a few other things too. The jalapeno margaritas are $6 for Happy Hour from 3-6 Monday-Friday.. and they are delicious! They're $11 after HH too so it's a good deal. The $5 chips & salsa trio is nice, you can pick 3 of the 6 salsas.. and they have it combined with the guac on the HH menu for $7. We love the nachos with carnitas on it; it's a great portion (not too much but not too small) and the carnitas is seasoned perfectly. All in all, Agave is a great spot for a weekday happy hour with a couple margs & nachos for ~$35-40 for two people. Service is mostly good, sometimes they're slammed but that's to be expected with a full house for happy hour :) I'll definitely be back!!

Yelp
Would not return...food was bad to mediocre. Beans and rice were lukewarm if that. Waiter never returned to check on how food was. We ordered chips and salsa with queso as an add on and he charged the queso as a whole separate item for twice the price. Flautas were pretty tasteless. Street tacos were decent. Would not recommend.

Yelp
Accurately rated at 3.5 stars, this is a fun patio-oriented Wash Park street taco joint. And I mean that as a compliment. Scootched ( is that even a word?) just east of its more well known neighbor the ATB fills a community niche. Bottom line ... a fine place to satisfy that need-a-taco-and-a-beer kinda craving.

Rebecca P.

Yelp
Very sweet server. But...Our margaritas were filled to brim with ice very little margarita. Oh well I guess that's what you get for happy hour discount. However our entire happy hour drinks were charged full price as well as chips salsa trio. So instead of being $35 - we left still thirsty for $60 :(

Yelp
Okay before I start this review I have to admit I'm a bit bias when it comes to street tacos, being from Houston and all. You know Houston knows how to throw down on some street tacos, we don't play about that carne asada. We came to Agave Taco Bar because the vibes drew us in. It's kinda beachy, like a surf bar with tacos. Has a very large outdoor patio with mist machines to help stay cool. Sun shining, doors opened, people enjoying themselves we had to try it out. We ordered one plate with 2 carne asada and 1 grilled shrimp and the second plate with 1 lengua, 1 pastor and 1 carnita...I have to say the pastor was the best. The grilled shrimp is marinated in a citrus mixture and it definitely captures that taste profile but doesn't seem to taste like anything else. The carne asada wasn't bad just need more seasoning maybe a marinade. The lengua didn't get eaten cause once my man knew what it was he no longer wanted it lol. And the carnita wasn't bad. They were also kinda pricey with each taco being $4. Yes, $4 a taco and they really are the mini tacos. Sides are separate. The rice and beans are refried black beans and rice with carrots and corn. Not bad. No charro beans. All in all the place had a good sized crowd so I'd say Colorado wise this place is probably a favorite to some. But to this true Houstonian, it wasn't the Mexican I was quite looking for. Still, I always appreciate good service and a chill vibe where you can kick back and have few a drinks. It's also located in a cute little neighborhood with lots of character. Right next door to a dispensary as well. Check it out for a chill spot to enjoy yourself.

Yelp
Amazing food...quick service....quality dining. Highly recommend. I didn't drink but the drinks looked amazing and it was fun to see the bartender making cocktails the whole time we were there.

Joanne V.

Yelp
Wonderful queso, Delicious food, and fabulous and fresh Paloma's and margaritas. Staff is super attentive. I highly recommend Agave!

Caitlin V.

Yelp
Outstanding. Service is friendly, queso is amazing, and a Val's Marg on the patio is a must. Great for family outings, happy hour, or brunch.

Yelp
Delicious tamale, the service was outstanding and the atmosphere was fun and very family-friendly.

Yelp
Max, Alexa and crew are amazing. Top notch , highly recommend, you're missing out if you don't stop in. Chicken tacos made me feel alive. Cheers thank you again

Yelp
Mixed feelings. The food was delicious, but for a place so small, the service was a bit slow. Also if you wanted to come here for a date night, I would be warned as it was VERY loud inside. I would return for outside seating on a sunny day.
google avatar

Yelp
Cool place. Noisy party vibe (so, pick your time if you like quieter meals). Tacos are good but not orgasmic. Which is probably good, as I walk here after work. Indoor and outdoor seating. Decent take on a southern Cali feel. Best part for me? Vegetarian options, plural. And no "beyond meat" garbage. Tasty salsa that is a bit different. Great guacamole, but needs some heat.
google avatar

Henry T.

Yelp
Chips and salsa are pretty bland with little to no taste, the waiter was very friendly and got our food out relatively fast. The Ambiance of agave was nice and looked like a old timey place. In particular I liked the burrito as it was big and delicious, especially for 4$ dollars.
google avatar

Yelp
Was not impressed with Agave Taco Bar after hearing good reviews. I ordered the nachos which had yummy toppings but the chips were very soggy. If I come back I would try something else on the menu. Staff was very friendly and nice!
google avatar

Yelp
PROS: great location surrounded by cute shops and restaurants, close to Wash Park, strong drinks, to-go margaritas, fun staff and atmosphere, taco tuesday specials are unbeatable. CONS: the chips are a little too greasy for my liking and food is a bit bland. OVERALL: The atmosphere, location and drinks at Agave make it worth the trip. During quarantine, I came here at least once a week for to-go margs to take to Wash Park for happy hour!

Yelp
So, I went to pick up food and I walked up to the podium in front of the entrance where the sign says wait here, so I waited. I waited and waited to get somebody's attention, then I decided to waive my phone, and eventually got somebody's attention. I asked for the order by name; the waitress puts her finger in my face and says wait here. What a rude and demeaning thing to do to a someone, especially a paying customer. Who in their Right mind blatantly puts their finger in somebody's face, then tells them to wait there. I could understand politely asking a customer to wait over there, but to blatantly put your finger in somebody's face is unacceptable. Restaurants like this come and go especially in this type of economy. I hope the waitress gets reprimanded or fired when management reads this review which I am not taking down. It was very disturbing, rude, and borders on assault!!

Yelp
Great service, cool atmosphere, and great tacos! I had some friends take me here while visiting Denver, and they did not steer me wrong! We chose to sit at the bar as they were friends with the bartender from previous visits. The service was great, and we got into a couple good conversations (on random topics). We ordered guacamole which was excellent, and included their home-made tortilla chips. They also offer 3 different hot sauces, and I found them each to be very tasty. Their tacos were incredibly flavorful and left me stuffed. Of course we also had to try out some tequila while we were there, since it was staring at us across the bar all night. We washed it back with some Negro Modelo. Convenient location with good service and food. I would definitely come back!
google avatar

Yelp
So much potential but ultimately disappointing. Feels like the owners have lost their passion and interest in the business. Tacky decorations. Crap cluttered around the shelves. Extension cords hanging down over the entrance door. I don't feel like it's hard to make great Mexican food but here it's mediocre at best :( service is slow. The neighborhood needs you to step up your game or sell!

Luke P.

Yelp
Very nice staff and food... margs were outstanding and legit, and agua Fresca was dope. Atmosphere was really bueno and realistic prices, but worth it for a nice evening out.

Yelp
Stopped in on a Friday evening at around 7:00, and we were quoted 25 minutes for a wait for 2. Ended up only having to wait about 10 minutes, so that was great. We were seated outside (the space heater lamps are a great addition), and the table and menus were very wet, as if the group before us had spilled something that was not cleaned up. Service was friendly but very slow. We ordered chips and guacamole for the table, and each ordered two tacos. The guac was very fresh and tasty, but about 1/2 of our chips were so greasy that we couldn't even touch them! The menu has a wide variety of taco options for different dietary restrictions and preferences. For tacos, I went with the rajas con queso y elote (vegetarian) and the pollo chile relleno. The vegetarian taco was quite good, and the chicken was just okay and a bit dry. Overall, the food was about average. Agave is a good option if you are looking for an affordable spot to eat on the adorable historic Gaylord street, but don't come here expecting a 5 star meal. They do offer $1 tacos and $5 margs on Tuesdays--I will be back for that!

Yelp
This was our first visit. I must say this was about two weeks ago but I can't stop thinking about our experience so here it is, I'm sharing it so others know what goes on sometimes.. we were seated outside, ordered couple of appetizers and a variety of tacos. Couple of margaritas. While we ate our food, another party was seated directly in front of us at the large outdoor booth. They had a medium size dog and believe it or not they allowed him to get all the way on top of the table and drink from a glass that the waitress brought for the guest. Dog remained on top of the table and continued to finish his water, while waitress walked by couple of times and said nothing. I guess it's ok to let it happen. Animals drinking from the same glasses you offer to your guests? Dogs allowed on top of your tables? No hygiene, we were grossed out. For the lack of your staff response we will Not go back. Who knows what ate off of our plates ?? Your staff doesn't care.

Ese D.

Yelp
Great tacos , the chef Carlos is the goat I love the margaritas The service is great Austin the stoner is always funny and cool doesn't get mad , everyone else in there is always funny and cool , great place ! I had a great time being there meeting all the workers good drunki people

Yelp
This place is really good. The nachos were OK, and the tacos were good. I don't think it was anything out of the world compared to other taco places I've been to in the area. But it was decent Mexican food.
google avatar

Mychal Y.

Yelp
Please understand that I came here because the places around it were packed... its makes sense why. To start off, we were seated and there was no silverware, napkins, and it took 5-7 minutes for "Bar Mod A" (Convenient that no name was given or on the receipt) to come over and acknowledge our existence. I could understand if the place was full but there was only two other parties of two. When they did come over it was only to give us water and walked away. It then took another 10 minutes for Bar Mod A to come and ask what drinks we want and you guessed it it took 10 more minutes to receive 2 beers a Margarita and a water refill. Now I can go on and on but I will jump to our orders. They got two of them wrong and again never gave us silverware (until we asked for it). We asked "Bar Mod B" about our incorrect orders and it took 20 minutes for them to correct it. Now about the food... the beans were from a can and the rice was hard which leads me to believe they weren't cooked correctly. Now the meat was decent but not seasoned properly but I wouldn't expect it to be with how everything else has gone. I'm going to stop here and make sure you all know that there's several other issues that could be brought up but I'm sure you've seen many others in the other review. I would said avoid at all costs, but its an experience and will make you appreciate other establishments.

Yelp
Friend and I went taco hopping-well truth be told taco and marg hopping. We started at another great place (Uno Mas) and this was stop two. We went for the Lengua tacos here. I must say they weren't impressive to look at by any means. The meat was tender and it had pretty good flavor, but it honestly looked like they forgot half of it. The staff was friendly and service was fast, but it didn't meet the hype I'd heard about it.

Yelp
First time stumble around the corner....AMAZING!! Sunday brunch with Carnitas Benedict was such an interesting and delicious meal. Good portion and priced so reasonably. Staff are very friendly. My wife had tacos that where also very delicious. Definite recommendation!!
google avatar

CityGirl K.

Yelp
Mediocre food compared to other places in the area for Mexican food. Tacos are pricy $4 per taco and they are a few bites each. Al pastor had the best flavor but I had much better around the Denver area. Brussels sprouts taco was recommended to us by the waitress, awful, no flavor at all super bland. We also got chips and queso. Queso was too sweet from the sweet corn and needed more heat and more flavor balance. Chips were fresh. Overall would not return as nothing stood out.

Yelp
Came here for lunch with my girlfriends after a night of drinking! To drink more haha Such good drinks (Paloma and michelada) delicious. The shrimp tacos on blue corn tortilla were just what I needed! Thank you

Yelp
It's been a few weeks nice since I've been here as I was questioning whether or not to post a review. I have obviously decided to do so.... Food: Pretty good, honestly. Big diversity in tacos in terms of toppings and proteins. Like, every sort of meat (and fish) is put on tacos. I really appreciate the diversity and the chips and salsa we're equally as good Environment: Super casual and a fairly small space. This place is good for families and date night but doesn't really offer too much in the way of ambiance. Drinks: Just your typical margaritas. It certainly wouldn't hurt to add some diversity since everyone can and does do margs. A place just down the street does a garden Marg with basil and St. Germaine. I wish they weren't afraid to branch out a bit. Service: This was my qualm with posting...Our server was heavily intoxicated. This is not an exaggeration nor interpretation. While she was quite cheerful, her etiquette may not have me coming back as it was extremely unprofessional.... If her behavior didn't indicate her state, we would have known as she continued to drink on the job and mention to us her desire to drink to the coming weekend ( we sent on a Sunday night). According to the server, it was her " Saturday" and she had been drinking tequila for hours. She even offered birthday shots to the table behind us that she also indulged in.... I'm all for having fun while on the job but the incessant high fives, random check ins and other strange behavior due to intoxication is totally not okay. I am fair minded though and am willing to give this place another shot as one person doesn't represent the whole but the lack of drink diversity and general aesthetic isn't my favorite. So, if someone asks, I won't say no but I won't go out of my way to go back.

Yelp
The margaritas were so good here I forgot I needed to make a review. Ha ha ha! Agave taco bar is tucked behind old and tired Wash Park Grill on Old South Gaylord. Hip and urban, this little taco joint opens up to a side street for perfect patio sitting and watching folks walk by. We happen to go on a Tuesday, which turned out to be taco Tuesday and we were in super good luck because four of their house tacos were a dollar a piece. Fabulous deal! We ordered Val's Organica margaritas crafted from fresh lime juice and an upper level tequila. They were delicious and deadly. We nursed three of those bad boys, enjoyed four tacos, and the queso which was served on fire. Being a taco aficionado, I have sampled many of the tacos around Denver and these are some of the best. Being a margarita aficionado, I have sampled margaritas around the globe and these are some of the best. Being a queso aficionado, I think this flaming chorizo queso was some of the best I've ever had also! I think we paid for this exceptional-ness, However things were a bit hazy at our exit and I think they had to return our wallet to us the next day.
google avatar

Chelsea J.

Yelp
This is more of a bar that serves mediocre Mexican themed bar food than it is a Mexican restaurant. Honestly I could make better nachos/tacos/ burritos at home, and margs are like $9... The people working here seem like they want to hang out more than actually wait tables. I saw a customer go get her own water glasses and fill them today while the staff just watched her. I've given this place multiple tries and it's really just not good.... maybe it tastes better after (at least 3) margaritas.
google avatar

Holly L.

Yelp
Came in 30 min before they closed. The service , food and drinks were amazing. Got chips and guac as well as a couple tacos each. Sooo good. Will be back!
google avatar

Grecia P.

Yelp
I love Agave on Taco Tuesday's! They have a select 4 tacos you can choose from ($1!) and my favorite is the rajás one. Try the chips with queso, it comes out over an open flame that keeps it hot while you eat it. Get ready for a 30-45 minute wait on a Tuesday night. There's a patio for nicer days, but the space inside is pretty small. There's limited parking but plenty of street parking.
google avatar

Yelp
My final visit to Agave Taco Bar Before I move to the great state of Texas. This spot has been a favorite of mine since 2018 and it hasn't changed in the three years I have come here. It will be one of the foodie joints that I miss the most here in Denver! The service is always fantastic! The food is always top notch. I can easily say this is one of my favorite taco bars in the entire country, and I have lived in quite a few places. Please, if you haven't eaten here yet, give it a try!

Yelp
Had a Living Social Deal and came for lunch with a friend and I wish now I had gotten more vouchers but will come back even without one. We walked in and were able to choose our own table. Drew, our server, was very attentive. They have great deals on street tacos and they make their tortillas fresh all day. My friend started out with the Watermelon Margarita--very tasty and I had the Modelo Especial. They had a butternut squash taco for the daily special and it was very, very flavorful. Then had the Mahi-Mahi and carnitas. My friend had the carnitas and arrachera tacos. All were well presented and delicious. They have a good Happy Hour and also Weekend Brunch which I want to try both. They also have a special of 2 tacos for $2 at 2pm. There is plenty of free street parking. Will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
This place is FIRE. Go on wednesdays night for half off margaritas and burgers, best burgers and churros I've ever eaten!!

Allyssa R.

Yelp
Great chips and salsa!! Three different salsas made fresh. Homemade corn tortillas

Sm B.

Yelp
Had dinner here tonight. First visit. Queso was very very good with sub par chips. Ordered the Flautas (rolled tacos) entree. TERRIBLE. They weren't made in house. They were pre made and probably ordered from Sysco. If I wanted frozen food defrosted I would have bought myself from Costco. Super disappointed. I won't go back.

Yelp
I love coming with a big group of friends to Agave for $1 taco Tuesday!!! Delicious food, solid margs, and always a good vibe. Definitely check out this place if your in the wash park area - highly recommend the nachos as well sooooo good
google avatar

Leigh L.

Yelp
I love that they don't use sours or mixes in their margaritas! Their carnitas tacos are bomb
google avatar

Maria F.

Yelp
The margaritas and chips and salsa were good! Sitting outside was awesome since the weather was nice. The rest of the meal was not quite as enjoyable. Tacos were decent - nothing to write home about. I enjoyed my al pastor, the tinga was plain. The lengua wasn't good and swordfish wasn't great. The service was a bigger problem than the food unfortunately. Our server wasn't enthusiastic and seemed like he wanted to be anywhere else. This would have been fine if he had been attentive and the food had been good, but the food was lackluster and we were still waiting for him to come back to run our credit cards 30 minutes after he dropped the bill off. We wound up having to leave cash and give the check to the manager which was a particularly bad ending to a not great meal. I've heard decent things about this restaurant, but I don't know that I'd go back.

Carlette E. R.

Yelp
What a quaint eatery! The weather was perfect for this establishments outdoor seating. The panels were up to extend the outdoor seating... The beer was cold and the tacos were hot! Great combination! My son took me there for taco Tuesday. $1 per select tacos. Sweet deal! Delicious flavor! Our server was a delightful young lady. Friendly and attentive! A most definite recommend...

Yelp
Hidden gem!! Great happy hour details. Great margaritas. Every taco I've had was delicious. Chill vibe, no frills, just the good stuff.

Yelp
This place is legit! Nice bar, great vibe, Awesome tacos!!!! The carnitas tacos where one of the best I've ever had. The asaddor(steak) was pretty awesome too! We went on a Friday night and it was packed! The wait was an hour for 2, but we got a spot at the bar within 5 mins, so that was great. The only suggestion would be be to have bartender help on those busy nights, even if just for the dinner rush.
