"Located off West 7th in Saint Paul, Agelgil puts its stamp on traditional Ethiopian fare with dishes like savory Agelgil tibs, tender zilzil tibs, and vegetarian dishes like shiro and tikil gomen (a delicate, lightly spiced dish of stewed cabbage, carrots, and onions). What really sets Agelgil apart, however, is its breakfast menu: Think savory Ethiopian oatmeal served with herbed butter; scrambled eggs and beef served with injera; and ful medames, a crushed fava bean dish." - Justine Jones, Ali Elabbady

I was at Agelgil for a meeting, which was good because many people meant I could sample many dishes. The samosas were hot, crispy, meaty. Yum! The filling is juicy. Make sure you hold them over a plate and don't drip on your lap the way I did. So many ways to prepare lentils. I'll be back with my family.

We have enjoyed eating here until the last prepaid takeout order. We were told 15 minutes ready for pick up and when we arrived 20 minutes later the order hadn’t even started and it wasn’t busy. The combo plate tasted good but the portions were smaller.

I’m Ethiopian and been to many Ethiopian restaurants in different parts of the world including Australia. The food at Agelgil surpasses anything I have ever tasted. That is saying a lot because there is lots of Ethiopian restaurants in twin cities and around the world. I think their food tastes fresher than all the places I been at or I have just gotten better at ordering the right food 😊. To those who don’t like waiting, this may not be your place. It takes awhile to prepare fresh meal and that is why it tastes as good as it does. Like any other restaurant in Ethiopia, you may have to get the servers attention If you need anything and may have to go to the counter to pay if you’re in a hurry.

We picked up a takeout lunch from Agelgil to enjoy outside on the first beautiful, glorious day of Spring in 2023, and the quality of the food was only matched by the amazing sunshine and warm weather. The staff who took and serviced our order was so helpful and polite, we wish we could have stayed and eaten at the restaurant (but alas the outdoors called). The spice and texture of the food was perfection, each bite better than the last. We loved it and hope to come back again soon!

We ordered the sambusa for an appetizer, two 21's and one 39. The sambusas were the best thing we ate out of the entire meal. The beef in 21 was so tough and chewy but we didn't want to say anything because we already had to wait an extra 30 minutes to get rice with our meals since it wasn't ready, we were there at 5:30 pm so during dinner. We were fine to wait and didn't have an issue we just didn't want to wait again. The 39 was more tender probably because it is lamb which is a softer meat. Anyways, we sat for another 30-45 minutes waiting for the check. It was just not a good experience. Even though the food has a good flavor, the meat was terrible for the beef.

We had a group of 8 friends visit Agelgil for the first time for dinner. Some had not had Ethiopian food before, so it was a new experience for them. The food was really fantastic, authentic yet still accessible for the newbies. The service was also so friendly - they made an effort to make sure everyone was enjoying their food and having a good time. Portion sizes are large and a great value too. We will be back!

Loved my experience here. Great food, staff, and ambience. I order their vegetarian platter and loved tasting all of the different dishes. Can't wait to go back!

Yes! This place has delicious food and good service. We got the veggie platter and it was great. We also got the tea/coffee combo which woke me right up. The restaurant itself is very clean and looks well put together. Highly recommend.
