I finally tried Agnes Restaurant and Cheesery in Pasadena and it is such an adorable spot--I'm already counting the days until I can go back! The setup is casual but thoughtful: you place your order at the counter, get a number, and they bring your food to your table. It's the perfect mix of relaxed vibes and elevated dining.
I'll admit, I committed the ultimate cheesery sin--I didn't order any cheese. But don't worry, what I did order totally made up for it! First, I tried the Cornbread Éclair with chicken liver pâté and cherries on top. This dish was a masterpiece--rich, savory, and balanced perfectly with the sweet and tart cherries. I'd go back just for this alone.
Then came the highlight of the meal: the Babe Farms Lettuces Salad. OH. MY. GOODNESS. This salad was an experience--crisp greens, sweet dates, crunchy shaved almonds, a sprinkle of parmesan, a few mint leaves, and the most amazing mustard vinaigrette that tied everything together. Every bite was a flavor explosion. I was lucky to be on a solo date because I didn't have to share, and honestly, I wouldn't have. I'd have to fork-stab anyone who tried to take a bite of my salad!
To round it out, I had a delicious chilled red wine, which was the perfect pairing for this magical meal.
Agnes is a must-visit, whether you're flying solo or dining with friends. Next time, I'm definitely diving into their famous cheese dishes, but for now, I'll be dreaming about that salad (and maybe plotting my next trip to Pasadena).
