Agriturismo Il Rigo | Best places to stay in Tuscany

"A long-established agriturismo located in a glorious setting just outside lovely old San Quirico in the Val d’Orica, Il Rigo is a working organic farm run by the ninth generation of the Simonelli family. Guest accommodation is in two old stone case coloniche (farmhouses) where you can expect comfortable rooms filled with country antiques and pretty bed-linens, with views of the Val d’Ocia to die for. The farm produces organic stone-ground flour, olive oil, jams, pasta and sourdough bread, all of which – along with other local specialities – can be sampled in the restaurant. Il Rigo is ideal for a rustic farm holiday, in one of the most beautiful corners of Tuscany. " - Nicky Swallow

Beautifully located in the Tuscan hills, Agriturismo Il Rigo offers stunning views, authentic and stylish accommodation, and excellent food. Everything was clean and comfortable, and the staff were exceptionally friendly. A truly memorable stay – we would love to come back!

We did not stay at this agriturismo but did visit the restaurant for their four course tasting menu. The experience was unbelievable, an incomparably prepared meal and experience, our best total dining experience during our 10 day Tuscan vacation. The rabbit served was the best protein dish I’ve had in my life (while also being the source of uncontrolled laughter watching my wife attempt to eat Bugs Bunny/Peter Rabbit…!). Great sunset views, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

An honest review…. We booked this as the first stop on our honeymoon around Italy. Initially the location and the house is beautiful, it really is an authentic farmhouse. The staff seem friendly and the food was nice but nothing to write home about. In particular the breakfast was quite disappointing. Our room was charming but very basic. The massive issue we had was that there was no air conditioning and the room/ house seemed to heat up during the day and felt like a sauna. We could not sleep at all. There is no respite from the heat and in all honestly we considered leaving early because we could not get a second of sleep in our boiling hot room. This was not mentioned on the website, There is a lovely farm dog however he is constantly barking throughout the night as he sleeps outside, they do provide ear plugs in the room because of this. All in all we found our experience underwhelming compared to the reviews we read about it.

I booked this place because I read that it’s a ‘photographer dream’ and … it definitely was. Sunrises and sunsets are amazing here, truly breathtaking!||We appreciated the hospitality, the kindness (Neomi is truly 5 stars!) and the location which sets it apart from others. ||In the ‘I wish I could’ list there is:|- a/c. They gave us fans and those helped a lot. |- shampoo/conditioner. I appreciate the commitment to sustainability but the soap bar alone has limitations.|- dinner was unfortunately in line with the reviews. Absolutely amazing one night and meh the other. Nothing in between. It’s rolling the dice for €40. |- the room key. Oh the room key. I do love that this is an old and cherished farmhouse but the room key does not work unless you wake up everybody you are with while trying to get out. It’s so so soooo finicky and so so soooo loud. ||Bottom line: read the reviews, align your expectations and book it. It’s a photographer dream.

We had an incredible and unforgettable wedding weekend at Il Rigo! Luisa, Mathias, and the entire team made us and our guests feel so welcome. The property is breathtaking, with stunning views like something out of a painting. Every detail was perfectly planned, and their sustainability approach was a wonderful touch. The food, prepared from local produce, was delicious, and the atmosphere was warm and intimate. We highly recommend Il Rigo to anyone looking for a personal and unforgettable celebration!

We had dinner at this exceptional agriturismo, and what a night it was—like stepping into a different world. The place is incredibly authentic, family-owned, with a beautiful, warm, and romantic atmosphere. The food is crafted with love and passion. I can't recommend this dining experience enough.

Great stay in Val d’Orcia! The rooms are very comfortable and fresh even though we were in late August (no AC, only fans). The service is amazing. All the staff is very attentive, nice and helpful. The food is really delicious. Dinner set menu has really big portions. Everything is so tasty that just ended up eating it all. There’s a small cute pond in the property that you can’t miss. Also, the sunsets are amazing!! Location wise, you will be a short (20-30 min drive) from Pienza, Montepulciano, and all the key towns in Tuscany. Il Rigo has a little book (and on there website) on each room where they give you ideas of activities in the area. Really really amazing stay in Tuscany! Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Fantastic location. Simple place with breakfast and dinner to keep us from having to hunt down a restaurant. We were looking for a slower pace, relax and unwind. This place provided that to us. If you are looking for a swanky villa, go elsewhere. The price was fantastic, the view was stunning and there are great day trips from this spot. We visited in October. The meals were elegant, perfectly paired courses and stunning Michelin rated dining. The wine options were local and good. The walls were a bit thin but not too bad. The olive oil soap and shampoo were a lovely touch. The rooms were large and beds were comfortable. I don't have super high standards, I typically just need a place to hold my bags, shower and sleep. This spot provided all the necessities and so much more. Connect with the owners and staff. When you see the passion that they have for what they do, you appreciate what they have created at Il Rigo so much more. Cheers!
