The 21 Best Restaurants in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca | Eater

"Agua Salá is the beach club of the Shavanna Hotel Boutique and a popular location for beach weddings, thanks to its amazing views of the sunset over the ocean. Fashionable young people flock here for its casual atmosphere — complete with cabanas — and signature cocktails, like the one made with ron, carambola, jamaica, and basil. Its menu offers seafood dishes like chargrilled octopus, oysters on the half-shell, and octopus tostadas, alongside beautifully plated salads. Closed on Tuesdays. [$$]" - Tirza Bonifazi

We picked the place for the sunset atmosphere at the Beach. Nice view and cozy bed in the sand. We just ordered a drink and guacamole because of a lack of vegetarian options that sounded tempting. The guacamole was tasty but for almost 10 USD (180 pesos) way too expensive.

Total disaster, zero stars if I could. Our visit to this restaurant was downright disappointing. We were there for nearly three hours and barely received any food. Some dishes never arrived, others were incomplete. We reserved this restaurant 3 weeks in advance, so how is it possible to don’t have any food available? There was hardly any communication from the staff, and only after a long wait did they mention that many items were unavailable after we asked whether the dishes were still coming. The restaurant ran out of many items, but no one told us until it was far too late. Several people in our group didn’t get to eat at all. Staff, especially the manager, didn’t seem to care at all - not even a apology. They shouldn’t accept large groups if they can’t handle them. This was without a doubt one of the worst dining experiences ever. Definitely not recommended - not even for a drink.

Beautiful restaurant right on the beach! We came here for my birthday for a special night. I wanted to really love this place. Don’t get me wrong it’s absolutely gorgeous, the service was just a little slow and after waiting super long for our food, it was good not great. Probably just an off night. Would still recommend for a nice sunset restaurant! Great cocktails too.

I would skip this place. We ordered tacos, the hamburger and the ceviche de camarones. The ceviche was supposed to be a leche de Tigre ceviche with mango and shrimp, but it was mango purée with shrimp. 🤮 I don’t think there was any lime juice in there. The shrimp was so raw, which we know it’s suppose to be raw of course it’s ceviche but with mango puree? It was weird. We gave them the opportunity to do the right thing and told them we didn’t like it and explained why. We’ve have a ceviche with leche de Tigre and this was not it, but they insisted this was the ceviche that they serve. The waiter was nice and asked the owner if we could exchange it for something else and they said no. 🤢 Don’t order it. It’s just mango puree and raw seafood. They asked us if we wanted to take it to go. lol Also, the prices are a little high for the quality of the food. I liked the ribeye tacos and my margarita but I wouldn’t come back because of this experience.

Prices are a little higher here. But service, food and atmosphere is all worth the price. We had a great night and they accommodated our big group of 8 people without reservation. Also rare to find in Puerto is that they brought the food to everyone to almost the same time. Splitting the bill was also no issue.

Beautiful place right on the beach. Food was well thought out and the fish was fresh. My ceviche was just okay but I really enjoyed the seaweed salad. We were the only ones in the restaurant - 3 pm people started arriving. Service was slow but they were super nice and accommodating and I was glad things took a while

Google
Amazing place to have a scenic sunset woth great food and fancy cocktails. The price is super affordable considering the quality of the food and the amazing service. The diah presentation and garnishment arebpf the charts for a restaurant that doesn't take itself tpo seriously and the atmosphere is chill and relaxed. I wouldn't recommend it fpr children, it's more of a couples place. But its not unwelcoming for the little ones either. I can recommend this fully, one pf the best places to dine in Zicatela.

Yelp
What a great spot to grab dinner and drinks in Zicatela. Watch the sunset as you enjoy some delicious cocktails and amazing food. We saw pics of the octopus and knew we had to come here and try it. It did not disappoint. It was so delicious!!! It was so tender and tasty. Definitely order it if you are a fan. The catch of the day was also super good.

Yelp
Great location on the beach and very cute ambiance but the food wasn't all that great and neither the service. The drinks were great! Not an area to swim but they have Day beds to hang out.

Yelp
Out of everything we've ordered... Cocktails 10/10. Amazing Octopus (grilled) 10/10. Amazing Ceviche (mango one) 7/10 but it's just based on my personal preferences. I understand they are being artistic with food, but my ceviche was sweet and fruity. Guacamole 9/10. Missed some lime acid and spice kick. Tuna tostada 9/10. Also missed some spice kick, we end up putting the hottest salsa on it. Service was fast and excellent. Ambience is the best for the dates. This restaurant is dim and has this sexy kind of lights

Yelp
This is by far my favorite dine in spot in Puerto Escondido! Not only is it beach front off Zicatela beach, but the atmosphere is very chill! We started off by laying down on their day beds as we waited for the sun to set. They have a very unique menu, but I was there for one reason...the pulpo a la brasa! I viewed the picture on Yelp and knew I had to try it. It comes on top of a risotto with a nice kick of spices in it. The octopus comes whole and was cooked nicely. We also ordered Frijolitos Puercos which are a mash up of refried beans and a mix or pork(usually chorizo, bacon, and/or sausage). They were some of the best beans I've tasted thus far. Lastly, they were having a two for one on Tartar de atún tostada. It was served on wonton chips. Very creative in my opinion considering it's under tostadas menu. Also very good, the wonton wasn't soggy either when taking a bite. Overall the food was great! In the drinks review, we started off with Coco Gin and Gin tonic. The great thing about it was that they have an extensive spirits menu to choose from. The Coco Gin was a fresh and sweet combination. Definitely balanced. On our second round we got a piña colada and my favorite and unique drink I ever had, the Cate de mi corazón. First time I tried a cocktail with avocado in it, but believe me it was delicious. It's a blended drink that comes out smooth. Not too frothy or icy. That drink deserved seconds and is exactly what we did! Will visit again before flying back home!

Yelp
A new place right on the Zicatela beach, it is easily the best food in the area. The drinks are creative and flavorful. The deck is covered with a tilted awning to keep the intense sun off of you for a while longer. Service was outstanding and the food was superb. We started with a grilled veggies dish. Beets, carrots, green beans, squash, all grilled to perfection. And if you travel Mexico a lot, you'll understand how excited we were to have vegetables. Then we had the quinoa and pear salad. It was really fresh, wonderfully seasoned, and refreshing. Our main course was the grilled pulpo. The portion was enormous, the presentation excellent, and the grilling was done perfectly. It had a little heat to it from the sauce it was cooked with, but not too much. My partner, who isn't fond of spicy food, ate her half without any problem. We will be going back for sure.

Yelp
This place is right on Zicatela beach. Perfect place to grab dinner and watch the sunset. The food and drinks is just as good as the view!
