Extremely disappointed to say the least.
We’re guests at the Andaz, and after a long day at Art Basel and needing to get to an event, we figured dining on-site would be quick and easy. I had eaten at the pool restaurant earlier and enjoyed it, so I assumed this would be the same. A hotel staff member even highly recommended it and said he’d let them know we were in a rush. That alone made us feel confident choosing it.
I’m writing this in the car on the way to our event because that’s how upset I still am.
Our server, Nisa, introduced herself and everything seemed normal at first. My fiancé ordered quickly—salmon, vodka tonic, and calamari. I asked a couple of questions, then ordered their signature gin cocktail (“Melissa”) and the smash burger since I was starving and figured it’d be fast.
The drinks came, and mine was honestly disappointing. Half a glass, way too lemony, tasted nothing like a gin drink. I told Nisa when she asked, and she offered to swap it, but I said it was fine.
Calamari was just okay. Then we waited. And waited. And she completely disappeared. No update, no check-in, nothing. We finally had to ask another employee to find her. He came back saying she “wasn’t available,” even though we literally saw her standing nearby. Once he checked on our food, it suddenly came right out. My fiancé asked for the check immediately because now time was tight.
His salmon was fine. Nothing special.
My burger was flat-out awful. So greasy, flavorless, and just… bad. I couldn’t even eat it. At this point I was still hungry and already annoyed by the slow service.
But what really set everything off was the attitude. When Nisa dropped off the check, she gave me a strange look and didn’t say a word. My fiancé joked, “She definitely doesn’t like you,” and honestly I brushed it off—until she came back around, glanced at me, ignored me, and then asked only him how his meal was. Purposely avoiding me. At a so-called 5-star hotel restaurant. It was blatant, disrespectful and unnecessary.
That’s when I asked for a manager.
We explained the whole situation. He removed my drink and burger from the bill, which was fair, but that doesn’t fix the fact that the entire experience was a waste of time, money, and energy. We could have gone literally anywhere in Miami, but chose to stay on property because we trusted the recommendation. And after all that, i left still hungry and annoyed.
Between the terrible food, the long wait, and a server who went out of her way to be rude, this was honestly one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had—especially at a hotel of this level.
I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
