Ahaan Thai

"A slice of Thailand in Graubünden! As well as dim sum and the usual range of curries, the menu features specialities such as Goong Hom Pha (shrimp in a blanket) – deep-fried king prawns with a sweet chilli sauce. Diners can also look forward to friendly service in a comfortable setting with elegant Thai-inspired decor. The restaurant is housed in the attractive Arosa Kulm Hotel, which dates back to 1882." - Michelin Inspector

As they lovingly say in Puerto Rico, "parece mentira", meaning it seems like a lie, that you have to travel to a little mountain hamlet in The Swiss Alps, to enjoy the very best Thai food in the world. Blessed to have dined at the very finest Thai restaurants in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, New York, San Francisco, Beverly Hills and Washington, D.C., Ahaan Thai in Arosa, Switzerland is the Mount Everest of all Thai cuisine. Headlining world class Executive Chefs, Ahaan's royal ambiance is palatially authentic. Patricia, the General Manager, is literally the "hostest with the mostest." Genuinely kind with an extraordinary spirit of serving, Patricia brings to the table the most palate tantalizing starters, entrees and desserts. My wife Christine's and my personal favorites are the sumptuous appetizer platter that features shumais, chicken satays, spring rolls, crunchy battered shrimp and fish cakes all served with their own unique dipping sauce. Always adding the scrumptious beef salad to our starters, the ethereal lightness of the dressing is spoon-worthy. As our main entree, we both enjoy the sliced succulent beef filet, served with mushrooms, onions, broccoli and tomatoes. Ahaan Thai's vegetable egg jasmine rice is the perfect accompaniment. So generous are the portions, that we share a dessert consisting of freshly made coconut ice cream, garnished with an array of fresh tropical fruits. As a bonus dessert last evening, Patricia treated us to her freshly home-baked tiramisu, the most delicious we have ever enjoyed anywhere in the world! OUR ******* SALUTE TO PATRICIA AND HER HAUTE CUISINE AHAAN THAI TEAM!

Ahaan Thai will always be one of our go-tos whilst in Arosa, and this is saying a lot for our umpteenth time in the last ten years. Sure, is it the most authentic Thai cuisine we’ve had? No. But we come here nevertheless for their good food, ambience and service. Whenever in Arosa, Ahaan Thai has always been on our hit list. There’s not much (if any) Asian cuisine around and once in a while on our trip, we need to break it up with all the Swiss food we’ve been gorging on! 😶🫢🤣 On this last trip, I’ve found the service to be on par and nevertheless so kind and attentive. They do get busy and thus we were lucky to experience a bit of reprief before the horde settled in for prime time. I do believe there are Thai chefs in the kitchen based on their menu although being Malaysian myself and experiencing much of Thai cuisine as well as Southeast Asian food - it wasn’t all out what I’ve experienced. Then again, I’m always open to others’ tweaks and take on their home cuisine (not to mention, their catering to the region they’re in). Did we gorge ourselves on this meal? A Hell Mary yes. Almost everything was licked off the plate. Did we order way too much? Another Hail Mary yes. Were the spices up to par along with the requested hot chilis and oil? Um, yeah! We absolutely adored our Tom yum goong and Tom yam heds soup with the zing that brings you back to life if you were feeling tired from skiing or drinking way too much earlier in the day. I absolutely adored they didn’t hold back on the spice. Darling, if you can’t handle the spice - then perhaps Southeast Asian food ain’t for you boo boo. We’ve also ordered the steamed ginger/soy sea bass, phad Thai pak noodles, Swiss pork tenderloin and a chicken dish. I’ve thought the fish was steamed and in ginger and soy sauce like other Asian dishes I’ve sampled, but theirs was a different take and more sauced up. Nevertheless, it was good. The noodles were on par and we couldn’t help gorging. The Swiss pork tenderloin was an interesting take and whilst I didn’t have the chicken dish, my partner did and he absolutely adored it. We’ve also had the coconut rice to go with most of the dishes and while I miss the Kokosmilch they used to ladle on top, there were some remnants on it. The service was pretty on par despite them getting ransacked by the oncoming traffic but nevertheless, to me - service trumped all when parties are treated equally and with kindness, courtesy and professionalism. While the food was a 4, the service made up for it and it was 4.5. All in all, who cares about the 0.5 point? You might as well deserve 5. (Also, I didn’t get the low ratings on Ahaan Thai when we viewed it and while it made us a bit hesitant when they were under 4 stars - we are nevertheless glad not to listen to those reviews. Ahaan Thai has been consistent in all the years we’ve been here and it’s been 10 and we know them better than that. Also, I’m glad based on the bustling traffic of folks dining here that those low reviews are not taken to). Keep it up, kudos! We’ll see each other once again! 👌🌟

I am amazed to find such good Thai food in Arosa. Me and my friends ordered a lot of different dishes and all of them were excellent and authentic. Only the laab gai was a bit odd. I'm used to minced meat and not big pieces. The flavor was excellent though. The staff is also very welcoming and attentive. Which is really rare in Switzerland. We will definitely come again. Keep up the great work.
