Ahernes Seafood Restaurant and Accommodation

We stayed for two nights in January. It was a last minute booking, as the place we'd booked had turned out not to be suitable for a winter stay. By the time we arrived, we were soaked to the bone, as there was torrential rain. We were given a warm welcome in every way, and ushered into the bar beside the fire to warm up. We'd missed lunchtime, but had an early dinner that was superb. The service was spot on. Our room was large and cosy. We had breakfast each morning, and there was a great selection including fresh fruit and a full cooked breakfast. The owner kindly gifted us fresh apple juice made locally. We liked all the food so much, we chose to have dinner there again on the second night. Highly recommend and would be delighted to return.

A superb townhouse and restaurant, with excellent service from all staff members and beautiful food. Even though I am coeliac and lactose intolerant, there was no problem meeting my needs (a rare event!) The whole establishment is spotless and inviting and the restaurant was buzzing with chat and laughter. David and Gaye (and Anne) are to be commended on their attention to detail in every way. We shall return. Highly recommended !!

We stayed for one night in a lovely, old world bedroom which was very comfortable and spotless. We had a fab lunch of oysters and scallops followed by a sublime tasting menu for dinner. All the food and wine pairings were very tasty and well presented. All the staff were amazing special shout out to Anne. We really enjoyed our brief visit

We had such a great one-night stay and dinner that we circled back for our last night of a long vacation in Ireland. The hotel room was impeccably clean with a notably comfortable bed. The dinner menus were varied and the dishes well prepared. The breakfast was the same, with choices ranging from yogurt and really fresh fruit to yummy scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Owner David and his staff were friendly, efficient and went out of their way to make our stay in the cozy and well-maintained hotel comfortable. And the town — which boasts a compact but very cool film and photograph museum — is a convenient drive to Cork.

Just back from a 2 night fantastic stay in this townhouse , from the minute we arrived we knew we would love it !! The staff are so friendly and welcoming and the rooms are beautiful. The food was amazing and we will definitely be back. I would highly recommend for a relaxing break away.

Charming family guesthouse, wonderful staff. Relaxing seating areas inside and outside is a comfortable quiet place which attracts the sun rays and enjoy a bite to eat or a drink.| Great selection on menu and it didn't disappoint. AHERNE'S HOTEL/RESTAURANT It has been a long time since I visited Aherne's in Youghal and I made up for that this weekend with a trip to try their tasting menu: Flat Oysters with a mini-Guinness; Seared Castletownbere Scallop with an Herb Butter. Drink: Prosecco; Grilled Sea Bass with Avocado & Chilli Salsa. Drink: Sauvignon Blanc; Smoked Parmesan & Roast Vegetable Risotto. Drink: Alsace-Gewurztraminer "Hugel"; Aherne's Sorbet; Surf & Turf (Char-grilled Baby Fillet Steak & Prawns) Chile. Drink: Chile Crucero Cabernet Sauvignon; Farmhouse Cheese. Drink: Warre's 1999 Late Bottled Vintage Port; Sticky Toffee Pudding; Irish Coffee. Quite a meal. We were first in to the restaurant at seven and it was ten or afterwards before we finished. Business was quite slack on Friday, maybe a calm before the storm of Mother's day. The standard, as you'd expect, was very high indeed. All the courses were excellent and highlights included the scallop; the bass and particularly the salsa; the risotto also; steak (not quite the baby indicated) was splendid as was the cheese selection, not to mention the port; the sticky toffee was very rich and so tempting and the Irish Coffee rounded it all off. Service was very friendly and efficient throughout our stay and we also enjoyed our breakfast the following morning. I almost forget the bread, brilliant at both meals.

Far overpriced for what you get. The risotto was watery and the vegetables were bland. I would not eat here again. If you eat in the bar, it's €10 cheaper per portion. The ambience in the main restaurant was lacking, it was more like being in someone's sitting room without heat. At least the bar had more activity.

Wonderful little seafood restaurant in cute town. Not a ton of choices for where to eat so I think it's safe to say this is the best bet for a fine meal. I had the vegetable soup and grilled fish trio, both were delicious. Lovely staff and great ambiance. Cozy and comforting food:)

Staying in Youghal for an international bikers weekend and we were lucky enough to be invited to dinner to Ahernes. Boy we weren't disappointed. Beautiful homemade breads were waiting for us when we arrived. I opted to have a main course skipping the starters and ordered the trio of seafood. It was mouthwatering, tasty and oh so fresh. Hake, salmon and cod was served on a creamy sauce which was a taste sensation. The veg, homemade potato croquettes and creamy mash were to die for and seconds of everything were offered. I have to go back if only to sample the starters and desserts but do yourself a favour if in Youghal and book a table.

Arriving at Aherne's late on Tuesday evening for our last night of a ten day tour of Ireland and Northern Ireland, we were greeted from the main road by the owner, John who personally guided us from the secure and private car parking to our spacious rooms in this warm and homely hotel. The rooms were very clean and fully appointed, with desk (Wi-Fi included) flat-screen TV, armchair, king size bed and large bathroom. Having settled in we headed downstairs to the formal restaurant (bar dining was also available) to experience the local tasting menu for which we had read excellent reviews. We were not disappointed, quite the opposite - after a full seven courses of delightful, fresh and locally sourced seafood, along with drink pairings including a miniature Guinness with oysters and port with the cheese course, we needed to take a brisk walk around the block to re-invigorate before returning to the cosy hotel bar for a nightcap. The dark wood and brass bar was lightly populated with fellow guests and our hosts with whom we had the pleasure of putting the world to rights over Guinness, Murphys and Bushmills. As two Brits and a New Zealander, we were made to feel as if regulars and thoroughly enjoyed the evening as we did our entire stay. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room perfectly dark and peaceful. After a wonderful night's sleep, we returned downstairs, past the real open fire in the drawing room, to a delicious full Irish breakfast and a cheerful morning greeting from our friendly host. Check-out was fast and simple and on departure our only regret was not being able to stay for longer. We highly recommend Aherne's to other visitors whether for overnight accommodation or even if just to dine - the food really is superb and reasonably priced for the quality. A short drive from either Cork or Kinsale add Aherne's as a MUST when you (next) visit Southern Ireland.
