Ahi Sushi Bar Review - Little Havana - Miami - The Infatuation

"Ahi Sushi is only about the size of a very nice walk-in closet. The sushi counter can seat six to eight people comfortably, and their small a la carte menu has really good maki, nigiri, and sashimi. The sashimi and nigiri selections are our favorite parts of the menu, and you should ask if the uni is available too. They also do a great omakase for $130 per person, if you're in the mood to splurge. This place is smack in the middle of Calle Ocho’s beating heart, so it’s a trip to watch the raucous, reggaeton-scored and cigar-scented carnival happening outside the window while enjoying a quiet meal here. But that just makes Ahi Sushi feel all the more secluded and peaceful." - Ryan Pfeffer

Google
Spicy edamame to start our meal. Rolls from left to right: winding creek, volcano, skipper. All these rolls were soooo good. We ordered another winding creek and had some red bean mochi to top off the meal. This place great background music adding to the atmosphere that is not too loud for conversation. We took our new born (17 day old) and everything went well. Delicious food, great service. Probably in top 3 for sushi places in treasure valley, definitely in top 5!!!

Google
Overall the sushi was good. Didn’t have a huge amount of options and every roll was similar. Edamame and bento box were great! I don’t think they had kid options but could be wrong. They are expensive so not sure if it is worth the price knowing other places around town are a smidge better.

Google
The sushi was excellent I'm from New Jersey and I gotta say the taste was on point and the seafood used is the freshest I've had in Idaho. I've been here 7 years and ate at a lot of different sushi places and hands down definitely one of the best places I've been too. The employees are super nice and attentive id highly recommend this place if you like your sushi fresh. 5 outta for sure 😊.

Google
I couldn’t believe that we were sat at a table and then ignored… several employees walked past us, but not a single waiter/waitress asked if anyone had helped us. There are too many other options to choose a restaurant that gives such poor service. After 10-15 minutes, we just left. Won’t bother going back.

Google
Best sushi in Boise! This is our go-to place. Staff is always so friendly and they have the freshest, best cuts of fish 👌🏼 10/10

Google
Ahi Sushi is a great spot for fresh and delicious sushi at reasonable prices. The food is always high quality, and the service is friendly and attentive. The restaurant is clean and comfortable, making it a great place for a casual meal or a night out. Highly recommend

Google
We Love Ahi! Freshest fish, consistent & creative sushi chefs, super friendly staff & great saki menu. Our business visits and orders takeout frequently, sometimes for 15+ people & they never miss a detail or special request.

Google
The service was amazing! The food was absolutely delicious!!!! We shared the kalani roll which was so good (think of an original to a spider roll) and the winding creek which was out of this world (it’s a tempura roll and usually I don’t favor those). The salmon sashimi was so delicious and buttery. We also enjoyed some katsu chicken, miso soup, gyoza.

Yelp
Have eaten at ahi two times this winter. Staff has been excellent both times. We have ordered spicy tuna, california, and two different dishes from the grill. All of our food has been delicious. There is plenty of parking, the restaurant has been quick to seat us and it's easy to find!

Yelp
My husband and I have been coming here since you guys have opened and haven't had an issue. However we came for lunch last week and the service was horrible the rolls were not made correctly and looked horrible. Mind you we were 1 of 2 tables in there and our appetizers and rolls took over 30mins. Not sure if it was because it was lunch time you had a less experienced staff working but we won't be back anytime soon.

Yelp
These guys don't skimp on their sushi, which I appreciate. The amount and quality of fish and size of their rolls helps make it an enjoyable experience. Our server was helpful in choosing the right rolls and offering off menu options, which were great. Their fried avocado with tuna appetizer is excellent but not on the menu for reasons I don't understand... you should ask for it anyway. This place is sorta tucked away in Eagle but it's quiet and a nice place to hang out.

The Last Honest Reviewer ..

Yelp
I have to agree with a number of dissatisfied and/or disappointed customers here. Unfortunately, I was not overly impressed with Ahi Sushi. We ordered the 16 piece Sashimi plate, yellowtail sushi, tuna sushi, freshwater eel sushi, spicy yellowtail cut roll, the Damn roll, tempura shrimp and the Teriyaki chicken bento box. Where to start...the tempura shrimp was undercooked. The shrimp had a slight cold and soft spot in the middle. The iceberg salad with the Teriyaki chicken plate was so bland. It had a vinaigrette dressing. That's not a Japanese dressing whatsoever. No orange/ginger based dressing? It was an iceberg salad out of a bag. Zero imagination was put into that side salad. It was a Denny's side salad at best. I'd recommend a Japanese cucumber salad instead. At least it would be authentic. The sashimi was okay. I'm not sure why the Albacore had to be seared, raw would have been better. The fish was just a bit chewy. I wanted it to melt in my mouth. My spicy yellowtail cut roll was bland too. No distinctive flavor profile. Not very spicy either. The Damn roll was okay, it had way too much sauce on it. Pretty much everything we ate was just okay. The menu is quite small, I expected a lot more items to choose from. Especially the specialty rolls section. I expected to see twice as many rolls to choose from. I wanted to see top grade Japanese sushi artists behind the sushi bar. I only saw a bunch of locals making my sushi. Yes, I seem to expect too much. It's very tough eating Idaho sushi, no pun intended. The service was great, we were very happy about that, everyone was very friendly and accommodating. The beer was cold and the sake was hot. The chicken teriyaki was tender and flavorful. There was no Blue Fin Tuna or specialty top grade sushi cuts to choose from. No belly cuts either. The presentation of each order was very simple. It was just sushi on a plate. No sauce decorations, no spice swirls, there was zero effort put into the presentation. I will say your Sashimi plate was beautifully presented. I'm sad to say, Ahi Sushi missed the mark today. It's one and done for us. And if you are going to choose Ahi Sushi as your business name, which is a great name by the way, then serve Yellow Fin Tuna Belly sushi. That should be your signature sushi. By adding Yellow Fin Belly sushi / sashimi, you could really make something special here. Something your patrons would all talk about.

Yelp
While we liked our meal, we said we probably wouldn't come back. Seems like mediocre sushi, which is about as good as we've found in Boise. Worth giving a try for sure but don't hold your breath if you're craving higher end sushi. Reminds me of the all you can eat type of place but they don't offer that option. Service was good. Pretty busy for a Thursday, so people must like it. Just not what I was craving.

Yelp
Tried a new to me sushi spot tonight. Their specialty rolls are on point! The service was wonderful and overall I had a great experience! I can only speak on behalf of the sushi but they have a decent appetizer menu and plenty of bento boxes to choose from. The interior was simple and very clean. If your craving sushi, I would try this place.

Yelp
Amazing food and service!! Every time we have some in the food is on point and we are super satisfied!!

Yelp
WOW! What a great place, from the background music and our service from Robyn, amazing experience! Oh and the food was outstanding too! We started with the island ribs that came with a big portion of steamed rice! The yellowtail nigiri was to die for! We also had the firecracker roll and dragon roll, all good food! Get place, great time!
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
Absolutely, hands down, the BEST quality raw fish. The quail egg shooters were perfectly balanced. Sushi rolls were clean, beautiful, evenly balanced and packed with flavor. The Volcano roll with Katsuobushi garnished on top was mind blowing & decadent. It had a punch of luxury that left my pallet beyond satisfied. Super kind staff, extremely personable and on the ball. If you haven't tried this place, please do yourself a favor and rectify that immediately. Seriously, go.

Yelp
We came on Monday night. It was pretty busy for this small establishment. They had signs posted to bear with them through their shortage in staffing but we had no issues. Our server was very kind and attentive. The rolls we had were all delicious and fresh. We ordered three as well as miso soup (very good!). The seaweed salad wasn't the best I've had but pretty good. The fried ice cream was huge which we shared and couldn't even finish. Overall a nice night out.
google avatar

Yelp
Nothing special about this place. "Green Salad" is nothing more than iceberg lettuce with diced carrots. Bland dressing. Where's the good ginger dressing taste?? What's green about iceberg lettuce? Has zero nutritional value. Call it an iceberg lettuce mix. Spicy edamame has no spice at all. At least throw some garlic on it and give it some type of flavor. Rolls were okay. But all the same, not much flavor and NO wow factor. Sorry guys but I will not be returning. Cheers

Yelp
Best sushi in town. I've tried them all and these guys know their stuff. Excited to go back again and again.

Yelp
Great sushi restraunt. I am a life long fisherman that has fished all over the world. This place knows fresh fish and the fish was sweet and super fresh.Good selecton of saki and nice atmosphere.

Yelp
Absolutely fine sushi dining with excellent friendly service. Salmon nigiri was great and the setting is warm and comfortable. Open dining room and warm vibes

Yelp
The BEST sushi! We had the sashimi combo with yellowtail, salmon, tuna, and seared tuna. Also tried a couple rolls (salmon and veggie) - both great. Ended with the kalua pork app to go. All perfection! Will now be our go-to sushi spot, not going anywhere else!

Nate D.

Yelp
We drive all the way from Kuna for this sushi joint. Sushi is always great! We always want to order another roll but so full. Volcano and Winding Creek were our favorites this go around. Tuna nigiri was perfect tonight. Definitely recommend

Yelp
Pretty amazing place. Even after we moved away from Eagle, when I'm craving really good sushi I make the trek across the valley for Ahi Sushi. I'm so glad that they survived the pandemic and were not forced to close like so many other places in the Treasure Valley. Definitely going back for more! My favorites are the Pizza Roll and the Winding Creek.
google avatar

Dana C.

Yelp
Great local sushi. Friendly staff and everything is very fresh. Great saki selections.

Autumn S.

Yelp
This is my favorite place for sushi!!! BEST in the valley. They are always friendly and the fish is fresh.

Yelp
My first visit to Ahi today and it won't be my last. Simply Irresistible! Since it was a business lunch, no pictures but my taste buds won't forget any time soon. We shared the Rainbow Roll, Winding Creek, and Dragon Roll. The Rainbow Roll is a california roll topped with tuna, salmon, shrimp, snapper & masago (small bright tabiko). The Winding Creek is shrimp tempura, spicy crab, cucumber, avocado topped with eel. The Dragon Roll is smoked salmon, crab, cream cheese, avocado inside & tempura until lightly browed, served with a creamy eel sauce. I'm usually not a fan of cream cheese in sushi, but I loved the crunchy wrap on this roll. The service was friendly, attentive and pretty fast. Our waitperson brought refills for our drinks before the glasses were empty. It's hard to find excellent, inventive sushi in the valley so this is a definite bright spot.

Michele B.

Yelp
Daniel was the best thing about this restaurant. It's a shame he has moved on. The stale menu needs updates for people who enjoy real, simple, high-quality sushi and not just saucy over dressed rolls. Immature service staff has been a consistent turnoff for years.
google avatar

Josh S.

Yelp
The food was fresh and the staff were polite and attentive. My wife and I have very high expectations of sushi due to her dad being a retired fisherman and my dad spending a great deal of time in Japan. We would recommend and will return to Ahi Sushi Bar.
google avatar

Jacqueline H.

Yelp
My fiancé and I are sushi fanatics and we love a good shashimi or nigiri. Needless to say, we have pretty high standards for sushi. We just got to town and decided to try this place. The salmon literally was melt in your mouth good! I had to order more! The rolls were fantastic and the miso soup was not watery. Overall a 10/10 meal and will be going back! Keep up the good work and thank you chefs!

Philip P.

Yelp
In more than 50 years of eating sushi (we were posted to Yokohama when I was a kid), I've previously never had this experience. Tonight I ordered the 18 pc sashimi plate (called Omekaze or "chef's choice" in Japanese), and was charged a premium of $5 on one of the fish. The listed price is $40, which is a reasonable price for 18 pieces (though Omekaze sashimi usually comes with miso soup, an amuse bouche, and a green salad in the US). This was surprising because as with almost all chef's choice tasting menus, there is a set price or prix fixe and there are no surprises. Yes, the chef can you what he puts in front of you. What he can't choose is to renegotiate the price without discussion. I've been to restaurants (like auberge d'chez eux in Paris) and simply told the maitre d'hote "bring food", gotten excellent food (often with dishes not appearing on the menu), and agreeing to pay whatever the bill was. In moments of madness I've even said they could pick the wine flights. This was not one of those times. What a good restaurateur wants is a sterling reputation and a base of repeat customers. This is not the path to either of those. The food was good, but I didn't need two types of salmon. Tai, katsuo, hirame, ohyo, tako, mirugai, shiro maguro, sayori, or even amaebi would have been equally welcome.

Yelp
Ate here tonight. Always good and decent service. For Idaho it's one of the best. Have to admit I know Sushi.. I had a business in Hawaii for 18 yrs and hit all the islands so good sushi is a must. This isn't up to that but as far as I have seen there is only one better place then Ahi in Idaho so enjoy. Not cheep for sure.. Hope their prices don't close their doors. You all know how that works.
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
The freshness and variety of fish is one of the best in the Eagle area. The service is good and the atmosphere is very pleasant and comfortable. We frequent Ahi at least a few times a month for their sashimi and their volcano roll.
google avatar

Nadine K.

Yelp
Recently moving to Idaho from Hawaii, all the poke and sushi places that have good reviews just isn't up to par for me when it comes to sushi and poke. Enter Ahi in Eagle. Thank you for having some of the non basic, imitation crab options as the only option and thank you did not serving me escolar I ordered ama ebi and you cooked my heads and served it to me I didn't get ikura, send hard in Idaho in general but you had a fresh tobiko. Service was good and glad to see that you guys were pretty busy for early dinner. Can't wait for my next visit

Josh K.

Yelp
Super fresh fish, high quality sushi for a good price, good atmosphere in dining area, great staff, awesome food and decent prices for how great it is
google avatar

Ryan F.

Yelp
This is one of the better sushi restaurants I have found in Idaho. It's a little expensive but well worth it. I would recommend giving them a try if you like fresh sushi.
google avatar

Sallie H.

Yelp
The best sushi in Eagle. We have been going to for years. Custom rolls. They even keep a file on special ones that they name after customers.
google avatar

Arrow P.

Yelp
An AMAZINGLY AMAZING Sushi bar with the best sushi in Idaho yet. I haven't tried all of the places, but this one is the best so far!

Amanda W.

Yelp
I've tried this place multiple times and I'm always disappointed. Every time I see those 4 stars on Yelp I'm convinced to try again but nope! The egg rolls tasted like old fry oil and the sushi is always "fishy" tasting. Yuck. I really want to love this place but I just can't get onboard. Maybe if you eat rolls smothered in sauce it's good. Even the tuna rolls are old fish tasting. This isn't a one-off anymore. Just not good unfortunately. Giving 2 stars because I like the staff and are always so nice. Food is not good though.
google avatar

Nate R.

Yelp
Top notch service, and the best sushi Idaho has to offer. Don't leave a negative review because you ordered a California roll. Grow up and eat some sashimi! Daniel, Nick, Joey have all made me insanely good custom rolls. Give them a chance to get to know you and you will not be disappointed!!

Nancy L.

Yelp
Small portions! Ordered the roll had it made into a bowl. Server failed to tell us it would be a $6 dollar up charge! Just for a little extra rice. The roll we ordered which I can't remember the name-I feel like it was a Kalani roll tasted very fishy. Definitely won't be back.

Chuck N.

Yelp
Meh. Ahi is a bit pricey without the concomitant creativity or quality. Not saying the fish quality is bad...it's not. Very fresh. I would just enjoy more choice and variety. I'd also eat "in" if possible. Take out has been mostly miss when it comes to order accuracy. Always check your bag b4 leaving.
google avatar

Taimane P.

Yelp
Sushi was terrible. I think I would've been better off going to Albertsons and grabbing theirs. Don't waste your time and money here if you enjoy authentic, well made sushi.

Carin O.

Yelp
The best sushi in Boise (and beyond!). I eat sushi everywhere I go and Ahi is above them all. Authentically owned family restaurant (they fly in their tuna from Hawaii a few times per week). The staff is always awesome! They are never understaffed.. which says a lot these days.. clearly a good establishment to work for. Poke martini is a must!
google avatar

Karina P.

Yelp
Finally found a good sushi spot! The sushi tasted so fresh and flavorful every roll we got was delicious. Highly recommend the Pizza roll! You won't regret it. I would say the only reason for not giving 5 stars is the service is a bit slow so it took a while to put our order in. But besides that everything was great and we will definitely be back.

Chelsea B.

Yelp
This one of my family's favorite restaurants to get sushi at. The service is great and the food is even better. Their sushi rolls are always made fresh along with their appetizers. They have a wide selection that keeps my 2 year old happy and I have never been disappointed with my order. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I had talked up Ahi to my visiting daughter because I have a friend who has said she enjoyed going there. We were going to come to the restaurant but things changed last night so we had to order take out. We were told 35 mins. I decided to head there early because of 5 o'clock traffic. I arrived 10 min. before our 35 mins would have been up. I approached a nice young man, gave him the name on the order and he went and brought out my order, the hot food. (I did not realize it was half the order until after I paid) I said, "oh this can't be all of it", so he went and asked another hostess and she rudely said something to him. He then told me, "your order will be done in just a few moment." So I sat down and waited for another 20 mins. The gal that snapped at the young man asked me twice what my order was under. I finally said, "why am I sitting here with my hot food." She said, "because he is training and should not have packaged up your food". She never from the start tried to train him properly by saying let me take your food any put it back under the warmer until your sushi rolls are done. Now we are close to 25 mins of me holding the hot food. She snaps at me, "I can take it and put it in the back if that will make you happy." I said, "at this point will it really matter", thinking shouldn't the rest of my food be done and the hot food is ruined by now anyway? Well she takes the bag, I sit another 10 mins. I approach the young man who I can tell is very upset. I said, "look, this is not your fault. With his head down he goes, "yes it is."I said, "no this is poor training, I am not upset with you. You are doing great. Hang in there." He said, "thank you, this is only my 3rd day." I ask to talk to a manager, the gal who has been extremely rude to me walks away and another gal comes out and says, the only manager is cooking and he can't step away. Finally, 45 mins later I get my food, I arrive home and we are missing items, the hot food is horrible. Tastes like it was warmed up in a microwave 3 times. So needless to say we did not eat a very expensive meal from Ahi. I waited until right before they closed and called to talk to the manager, I got the same gal who was so unpleasant with me she told me he was busy. She took my number and said he would call me. Guess we shall see. Very disappointed. Poor training of a clearly capable young man and poor management!

Yelp
Food was delicious and service was very good. I went with my dad. We shared gyoza (I forgot to take a picture) which were pan fried perfectly. The sauce with them was really good. I had the skipper roll and my dad had the winding creek roll. Both were delicious. Then we shared the fried ice cream. Over all, the meal was very good and I thought the prices were very reasonable. I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a good sushi dinner. They don't have a lot of options if you don't like sushi, but their sushi selection is really good.

Yelp
This place is amazing! We sat at the bar.(I have an allergy so i know I'm super annoying). Nick was our sushi chef and he gave great recommendations as well as guidance for rolls I could eat! The sushi was SO FRESH! The best I have had I Idaho where.... Let's face it. We aren't next to an ocean. The conversation was great, the ambience was authentic and the knowledge of sushi was above and beyond!

Yelp
This place prepares my favorite sushi in the area. It is quite delicious. Ahi is located in Eagle on Winding Creek Dr. I was kind of bummed it became my new favorite place. So, here is the deal, when my wife and I started dating she took me to this place knowing I loved sushi. She told me how great it was and how great the people that owned and operated it were (and still are). Apparently, when she had her wisdom teeth pulled, she lived off of their miso soup for 4 days straight. I was leery because of my love for Superb Sushi downtown. I ended up being kind of pissed at how good it was, because I had a new favorite sushi place from then on. We typically go with my in laws. We always meet them for happy hour (4:30-5:30p) and/or dinner. For happy hour they've got a sweet 2-for-1 hand roll/nigiri special. My wife gets eel nigiri every time. My wife's dad and I usually get a spicy tuna and spicy scallop hand roll. So damn good. My wife's mom usually gets eel hand rolls and then egg rolls for everyone to share. Probably some of the best egg rolls I have ever had -- even the wife likes them...and she hates egg rolls. After we devour the happy hour stuff we usually get a couple rolls for everyone to share. I absolutely love their A-Bomb Roll. It consists of spicy yellowtail, jalapeño, salmon, avocado, cilantro, masago, and their "damn sauce". My wife's favorite is the Skipper Roll, but tonight she ordered the Dragon. The Dragon Roll has shrimp tempura, spicy crab, cucumber, avocado, topped with eel. So good! Every now and again I will try some nigiri off of their "specials" board. Surprised in a very, very good way every time I do. If you love sushi, please give these guys a try. Sit at the bar if you get a chance, enjoy some good conversation with Randy, Nick, and the rest of their team, and watch them work their magic of making amazing sushi.

Yelp
I went here the other night with my mom and boyfriend and it was very welcoming and fun here! I have the Pizza Roll and a Bento Box and everything was so delicious! Our server was so sweet and recommended great meals. Get experience overall!

Yelp
Friendly professional staff. Great variety of menu options including drinks and roll options. Maguire was our server, she is first rate. Clean, cool tasteful decor, lots of seating both at tables and bar and outside seating. Really pleased overall.
