‘The Pitt’: behind the real filming locations on the smash-hit medical drama

Dating back to 1882, this Pittsburgh institution briefly transforms into the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital for The Pitt, with three days of filming devoted to it. Its main entrance appears on screen with new signage, and its helipad is also featured. A standout rooftop scene from the pilot was shot here, where Dr. Robby and Dr. Abbott have a tense moment as Abbott, worn down by yet another gruelling shift, stands dangerously close to the edge contemplating taking his life, while the East Coast skyline forms a dramatic backdrop and Robby defuses the moment with a sarcastic remark. - Shaurya Thapa

After a significant stay of over three days, which included a surgical procedure, I can confidently say that Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) provides truly world-class care. I am highly impressed and incredibly thankful to be a part of the Allegheny Health Network. From the moment I arrived, the quality of care was evident. The entire staff—from the administrative team to the dedicated doctors, nurses, and surgeons—were not only competent and talented but also genuinely friendly, patient, and attentive. Every question was answered with care, and I always felt respected and prioritized during my recovery. Beyond the medical excellence, the hospital environment itself was superb. The rooms were impeccably clean, and the attention to hygiene was constant and reassuring. Even the food was delicious and provided great comfort during my recovery. I was also deeply touched by the thoughtful details, like the substantial care package and the puzzles provided to help pass the time—a small gesture that made a huge difference in making the long stay feel more manageable. Allegheny General Hospital exceeded every expectation. If you are facing a stay or surgery, I would highly recommend AGH without any hesitation. This is an exceptional institution.

I’ve been in 5 outpatient surgery facilities since Aug. our family has been through back sugery, knee replacements, lisfranc surgery and more. AGH is by far the worst facility we have been at. They don’t seem to care about the family waiting for their love ones. The bathrooms and cafeteria are dirty. The er is filthy. We had 10 min with our son before his surgery. Every other facility we’ve been at we met with the anesthesiologist the Dr and the nursing staff before the surgeries. When our son was at shady side and children’s we were even with him when they gave him nerve blocks. Here we went back for 10 minutes and were told ok you Leave now you’ll see him in post op. That was an hour ago and he is still not in the or. I would recommend almost any other facility over AGH

Had to go to the ER today for my girlfriend who had been in a non-life threatening car crash. A lot of complaints on Google about the wait times.. I’m not sure what people expect. This is standard everywhere. The staff was all welcoming and professional, and got us in and out of the ER within two hours. People need to keep their expectations in check. I can’t imagine the amount of chaos these workers have to deal with daily. Hats off to all of them!

AHN should be ashamed. I will never come here again. Not only is the building in disrepair, but we waited more than 2 hours for a standard scheduled simple procedure. Something that should have taken 2 hours ended up taking 7. On top of that, when I went to get my car from valet, I waited for 15 minutes In freezing weather for them to come only to find out they had closed with no information posted on how to get my car. This was at 4:00 p.m. who closes valet at 4:00 p.m.? This is in addition to the fact that I could not self-park because the garage was closed.

Took someone to the hospital for a highly possible eye infection, puss, crust formation, and then couldn’t open their eye all happened during the 3 hours we waited in the lobby. I told the check in woman about it and she said “I did the check in and there’s nothing else I can do you have to talk to a nurse”. I am beyond irritated. I need Ohio valley to open up again, their speed and service was better by MILES.

Had to wait over 24 hours to get moved to a room from the emergency room just for it to be a shared room most the staff was unprofessional they were cussing playing music in the hall way the food was 2 hours late. The nurse was a air head and most the questions we asked her we later found out she gave the wrong answers to about half of the questions we asked her because the doctor had to go back and answer half of them he was probably the only staff member at this hospital that acted like he knew what he was doing. I would never let anyone in my family go here. The walls were dented. Half the electrical equipment in the room was broken.

This hospital is a clean and well-maintained facility with a staff that is genuinely kind and caring. They make a clear effort to provide a high level of patient care. While the experience was pleasant overall, it feels like they are still working to reach the top tier. It's a solid choice for care, but it may not offer the same level of advanced resources or streamlined processes as some of the larger, more established hospital systems

This goes out to the nurses, cna's, doctors, staff and anybody else who helped me through my stay, THANK YOU!!! Thank you to all the wonderful people on Floor #8! Without all of you, I would have had a rough stay. You were so kind and caring. I will never forget you guys! 🥰
