Across the street from Mineo’s, Aiello’s fuels the city’s friendliest rivalry. Consistently cited by local critics and travel editors, the cash-friendly shop turns out saucy, generously topped pies that many Pittsburghers swear by.

Aiello’s is top 3 in the city, best in Squirrel Hill in my opinion, and definitely great pizza choice anytime. Over the years they’ve maintained a quality recipe and made some nice improvements to the shop. Really good beer selection is a nice bonus.

Service was fast and friendly. Lots of seating available. Pizza was good. They have already prepared options and you can order by the slice. We selected our choices and I believe they placed them in the oven to heat up. We ordered the veggie stuffed pizza and a slice of the cheese. Wish the veggie came with a side of a marinara but just personal preference. They crust is good. The only downside was no parking and cash only.

I bought a pizza with cheese and pepperoni and it was burned around the crust, I’ve been getting pizza from there for years. I called and sent them pictures.she said I had to call the owner on Monday. Clearly if you took it out of the oven and seen it was burnt, and the cheese was over cooked. Then why would you sell it to your customers. This was Saturday February 23, 2025 around 8:30pm . Just make sure you open the box and check your pizza. Same as you would do at any other fast foods.

I was told after trying place, if you order a whole pie they put the toppings under the cheese so will have to give that a shot next time. Pizza was good regardless.

We went to the pizza place next door first but there was a horrible chemical smell, not like a pizza place at all. So we walked out and came Here instead. It smelled good, was clean and bright and the pizza was quite good. I loved the crust. I had the the stuffed meat and my husband had the stuffed vegetable. We both really enjoyed it and would come back.

Google
Best Pittsburgh style pizza in Squirrel Hill. It's always cooked well. The not to much cheese, the right amount of time in the oven, and the right amount of toppings. Their pizza dough is so good. I don't think I've eaten such a delicious crust! The people are so kind as well. They always greet you. Their restaurant is clean and welcoming, even during the pandemic. Oh yeah, I'm not a fan of Hawaiian pizza, but my husband loves it so I get it. We ordered it this past weekend from Aiello's and I enjoyed it a lot! Using bacon and canadian bacon did the trick 👌

Google
Perfect pizzeria pizza. Crispy crust. Ooey gooey cheese with the pepperoni and grease underneath. This pizza is soooo tasty!! We also ordered a small Stromboli with ham and pepperoni. The sauce was inside, that was new for me. Fried mushrooms as an appetizer-decent portion size. Clean restrooms, clean dine in. Great atmosphere! Neat pizza history on the place and its neighbor

Yelp
5/31/25 Ate List: Traditional Slice - 8.2 White Pizza Slice - 8.6 So there's a local pizza "rivalry" in Squirrel Hill and you are either team Mineos or Aiellos. After trying these slices, it feels like a rumor started by Mineos to try to be kept in the conversation. They are a cafeteria slice by comparison here. Traditional slice was solid. Thin, delicious, crispy. White pizza was electric. Garlic-y and oily but not overbearing. This is how its done. This is the clear winner. Go here.

Yelp
Cool set up of a beer shop attached to a pizza place. Decent price and p decent pizza. Good thin crust. Good space. Cash only.

Yelp
Wow, this spot has been here for generations I gather. The greatest thing about them is that they have evolved while the others have stayed stagnant and dull. They redecorated and added some additions to their menu. I really enjoy the stuffed pizza, which to me is like two slices one on top of each other with the top slice turned upside down. Then it is filled with wonderful ingredients like sauce, cheese, sausage, pepperoni, peppers, etc. They slather the slice with a garlic butter sauce. It ends up being pretty greasy, but the flavor and quality of the slice is still there. The service is fast and friendly, wonderfully done. The food is very affordable which makes it an even better pizza destination. Cheers to Aiello's! Get there soon,

Yelp
Out of all thin crust pizza in Pittsburgh, this is the best. In its fight with Mineo's, Aiello's wins hands down. The sauce is perfect, the crust is perfect, the cheese amount is perfect. I highly recommend getting a large pie and heading over to Schenley for a picnic!
google avatar

Yelp
Love the thin crust pizza, the bottom was cooked to perfection! Bottom was crispy but not burnt. Prices are very reasonable but heads up, it's CASH ONLY. Our food came out quickly and staff was helpful. The restaurant was very clean!

Yelp
An interesting comparison to Mineo's--perhaps a higher level of craft, but not aa distinct Pittsburgh style. I would recommend locals try it to see what they like, but if you're a tourist and want something Burgh-ish, go to Mineo's or Shelly Pie. The pluses of Aiellos: the crust was cooked nicely and crispy on the bottom, the sauce wasn't overwhelming, and the toppings all slid in place without sliding around. The toppings were symmetrical and well-distributed, and the pizza was cooked perfectly. The minus of Aiellos, to me, is that the pizza is much closer to NY-style than to Pgh-style. The crust is thin, the cheese doesn't blanket it, and there's shockingly little grease. To many, this would be a plus. But if I'm visiting and want a taste of home, I want my pizza to be lopsided and swimming in grease, which just isn't the Aiello's way.

Yelp
Stopped in while window shopping in Squirrel Hill. I'd heard good things about the pizza and was pretty pleased with the chewiness of the crust. Staff were friendly too. This restaurant is cash only, so plan in advance. For one slice of pepperoni and one slice of cheese, it was $5.50. Price wasn't terrible, but the size of the slices wasn't large and so it feels a little steep comparatively.
google avatar

Brandon W.

Yelp
First time coming into Aiellos for a quick bite. Had no clue it was cash only. Staff was super rude to me when I didn't have cash and then when I said I didn't want to pull money out of the ATM with a crazy high transaction fee for a slice they got all defensive and shouted at me as I walked out. THIS PLACE IS NOT WORTH IT.

Justin L.

Yelp
I love the food here. The service was good and I really feel welcome here. If your looking for a good bonding spot for friends and family this is the place for you.
google avatar

Yelp
Fast food like pizza restaurant with a friendly staff. The fries were good and work well with ranch dressing. The pizza roll was ok but the inner gooey dough was great. The pizza was nice and crispy and extra salty because of the anchovies. Cash only!
google avatar

Marie B.

Yelp
This was really really good food, they are a cash only business so be aware but they do let place an over the phone order. The chicken cutlet is a real chicken breast which I appreciated but I wish I ate the food fresh out of the oven the cheese got stiff.

Yelp
I stumbled upon Aiello's Pizza while walking around Squirrel Hill and was able to try their pizza slices. The people were friendly and the space with clean with a person hand making the pizza in the corner. Their pizza slices are customizable and you can add whatever topping you want on each slice, which I really like. I got two slices of the cheese pizza and added pepperoni and onions. The texture of the pizza itself is a perfect mixture of crisp and soft, which I personally like a lot, but the pizza was bland and lacked flavor even with the pepperoni slices. Overall, this place was good for a quick snack with customizable toppings per slice, but I wish it had more flavor.
google avatar

Yelp
Great spot to get pizza in Squirrel Hill. Usually busy, but that's because they make great pies. Prices are decent, generous with toppings, served with a smile. Good pizza is here...some of the best in the 'burgh!

Yelp
Well I'm glad I decided to give this pizza place a try Located right on Murray Ave parking can sometimes be a hassle over here. First the good They have real grape soda with cane sugar I like grape soda I like a grape soda with my pizza that's just me. I was excited about my slice of regular pizza Well this was a baby slice (why so small) Super thin crust not much of an edge /crust like a good pizza should have. It was crispy Almost tasted like a frozen pizza like from a supermarket very bland Maybe the pizza maker had an off day Cashier had trouble understanding me asking for one slice not 3 OR he knew the slice was small and to equal an average slice I would need 3.

Yelp
Pretty good pizza! Tried a lot from this place to get a real taste of everything. Will definitely be back to try other menu items Tried an italian hoagie, pierogi pizza, and the stuffed meat pizza slice This place is cash only which was a bummer but oh well. Also I came here after a Delta eight purchase at Smoke Wizard so take this review with a grain of salt! Anyway, the pierogi pizza was unique and something i've wanted to try in Pittsburgh. I've tried pierogi pizza before in my college town. It was good, not as good as i've had but still tasty. The italian hoagie was great. Perfect. Bread was amazing too Stuffed pizza was the bomb!! I would come here again just for a slice or 2 of that. Also love their pizza crust. Place was nice and clean on the inside, and they also have a wide beer selection
google avatar

Yelp
So I grew up in Massachusetts where bar pies rule. Thin, well done, great cheese and toppings. I haven't found it here in Pittsburgh yet but this pie is amazing. Cash only, limited seating but great vibe. You can watch them create your pie and enjoy a conversation with staff about the Steelers. I order thin pepperoni and sausage. Insanely great! Love this place and go as much as I can. Cannot recommend more!

Yelp
Fantastic place with great food and fast service. Would definitely go there again. Pizza was the best

Yelp
Today was the second time I have been to Aiello's. While the inside of the store is somewhat small, it's very comfortable in there. They have many selections of alcoholic drinks and soda. Despite the size, the inside is very clean, polished, and the workers are really attentive! They work quickly and their pizzas come out consistently delicious, piping hot, and irresistible. The price for a Large cheese pizza came to $23. In my opinion, this price is fair for the quality of ingredients they use. The sauce, the cheese, and the crust create such a unique pizza you cannot find anywhere else. Needless to say, Aiello's will always be a solid pizzeria to come back to. The taste will never get old!
google avatar

Yelp
We all know the supposed pizza rivalry in Squirrel Hill (which is now spreading to the North Hills), but what everyone should know is that you can't go wrong either way. Aiello's pies have a nice crust and sweet sauce - with a decent amount of cheese, which I prefer. Price-wise, they are comparable with other similar styles in the region but being cash only continues to be a pain.
google avatar

Larry C.

Yelp
This cash-only neighborhood pizza joint is your go-to for a satisfying fix of good pie. You can tell that it's super popular, as it's almost always popping on weekend nights or game days. We ordered a classic Margherita and a BBQ pizza, and we were not disappointed at all. The pickup wait time was on point, the ingredient proportions were just right, and the dough was perfectly cooked. While it may not be uniquely special enough for me to rave about to anyone, it's convenient, casual, just properly priced, and most importantly for pizza, it will always be there for anyone in the neighborhood looking to fill the empty stomachs of a large group (or a very hungry individual!).
google avatar

Alicia O.

Yelp
The only thing I don't like about this place is that it's cash only. Besides that, we have found our Friday night pizza spot. It's perfect for Pittsburgh. I'll note that in many of my reviews since Pittsburgh isn't necessarily a foodie city. The workers there were friendly and helpful. Ordering was easy eventhough I hate calling places (geriatric millenial quirk). A friend told me about this place and I'm so glad they did!

Loretta W.

Yelp
Pizza is meh at best. Overpriced for sure. Cuts are small. A small pizza with toppings.. $30?? BTW, toppings were sparse. Definitely not good enough to justify the price. $75 for 2 small and 1 large pizza ( one pizza was plain). I expected some pretty special pie. Didn't happen and won't happen again.
google avatar

Savannah B.

Yelp
Hate that it's cash only, love that they have slices out and ready to heat up for when you're in a hurry.

Pepperocini C.

Yelp
Love it. One of the world's best. try the sausage. newly renovated building had a bar

Yelp
Cash only place. Came in this classic Pittsburgh staple on a Saturday and grabbed a beer while I waited on my pizza. I also really couldn't resist ordering a slice of white pizza while I waited. The slices looked too enticing! This pie is among the best I've had in Pittsburgh or ever. I can see why it is consistently ranked among the best places in this region. This is a fairly busy place as there were many patrons coming and going as we waited on our pizza. I know I will be craving this pizza soon enough.

Bobby M.

Yelp
Good pizza, but way overpriced for size. Told they only come in 2 sizes, so I ordered the largest they had. Pizza is the size of a medium; compared to most pizza shops and costs more than most large ones. But, that's just my opinion.
google avatar

Anuj S.

Yelp
Had a quick slice here the other night. Super affordable, I must say. $2 cheese pizza slice. Not huge like a nyc pizza, slice, but still good pricing. So the reason we stopped by is I was reading into the apparent local rivalry between this place and a very nearby place. So the other one had more of a bar scene going and a lively crowd, so we actually dined-in there first and then had to come here to compete the taste test. So the winner? I mean, I would say both pizzas are about equal. Nice crispy crust, and all. The thing I'll also add is the pizza sauce at both places was quite sweet. Much sweeter than what I'm used to, and so that's what gives me pause. I'm sure it's a regional thing and that's just how they like it in the Burgh, but it was kinda meh for me.

Denise C.

Yelp
Good food, fast service, friendly staff. Place is cash only. Had pizza, Stromboli, fried pickles, and funnel cake fries. All was delicious. They also have pizza by the slice if you want a quick bite. Would recommend.

Yelp
The pierogie pizza is so delicious I've ate here a few times and they quite honestly never really have disappointed. Continue to support your local pizza businesses. I will be back each and every time!

Yelp
Every and any time I go to Aiello's it's always good!! The Veggie or pizza rolls and the Margarita pizza are my favorite!!

Yelp
Never eating here again. My family came in today to celebrate a family member birthday and we ordered 2 large pizzas, 2 salads, drinks, and mozz sticks. However, one of our family members is gluten intolerant and understandably still wanted to eat pizza with us. Unknowing of the feud between Assholes Pizza and Mineos and vice versa, that member accidentally brought a small pizza for themself into Aiello's. IMMEDIATELY, the owners daughter jumped down our throats and YELLED at us telling us we were not allowed to eat the pizza inside. As the family member tried to explain that they only brought it because of the gluten intolerance, SHE WALKED AWAY. EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL, RUDE, and UNCOUTH. Instead of being an adult and explaining why they had this policy or why it hurt her feelings, she decided it was better to lose a whole family's business by acting like a spoiled child. If you want mid pizza go here, but for my family and I, we will be eating much better food at Mineos.
google avatar

Jonna D.

Yelp
Great pizza and highly recommend the steak sub.The beef is fire, and they put a ton of cheese on it and this awesome tangy sauce.. all on a Mancini's hoagie roll... it's so good. Staff is friendly and create a very welcoming atmosphere :)
google avatar

George M.

Yelp
Awesome pizza block. aiello's is right there with Mineo's and plain slices are only $1. They have a back bar with extensive craft beers on tap and six packs as well.

Yelp
Absolutely loved the pizza on our last visit, so wanted to stop by again. We got a red pie last time, so we chose to try a pizza with white sauce. We wanted to get a medium Mediterranean, but we're told that the gourmets only come in small or large, so we opted for the large. We also picked up a pepperoni roll and a slice of stuffed pizza. * Mediterranean: vegetarian pizza, with tomatoes, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, ricotta, and more that I'm sure I'm missing. Very mild flavor. Didn't love it, not sure if it was bc of the white sauce or if I wasn't a huge fan of the toppings, but I'll be getting a red pizza again next time. Did taste better cold!!! * Pepperoni roll: they ask if you want a (heavy) drizzle of garlic butter, and we said yes of course. Not bad, could have had more pepperoni inside. Nothing out of this world, won't be getting again. * Stuffed pizza slice: red sauce with pepperoni, sausage, meatballs under the cheese topping. This was great, enjoyed this slice much more than the Mediterranean. Pricier than the other slices, though! Overall, a bit disappointed by our picks from this visit, but the fresh dough of the pizza is so delicious, I'll definitely be back!!
google avatar

Jonathan A.

Yelp
I usually order from the other pizza place nextdoor but thought I'd give Aiello's a try this time. I got a custom calzone with chicken, ricotta, mushrooms, broccoli and mozzarella cheese. The crust was delicious, the portion size was great and they nailed the time estimate as well. Now I have a connundrum next time I want pizza in squirrel hill!
google avatar

Courtney W.

Yelp
I decided to try this place out because I have never been. I was warmly greeted by the staff, which was a plus. The restaurant was well lit and clean which I appreciated. I ordered two slices of pepperoni pizza to go. The pizza was OK. The sauce is a little on the sweet side for me and there wasn't enough cheese. The pepperoni selection that they had was a little strange.... I prefer smaller pepperoni pieces. The slices of pizza themselves were a little small. The crust was not flavorful. I wouldn't mind coming back here in a pinch, but it's not going to be my go l-to.
google avatar

Skye S.

Yelp
I live their pizza. Probably my favorite crust in pittsburgh. The sauce is more herby and a little sweet. Even though i love it some people might not.
google avatar

Brogan M.

Yelp
An Italian specialty located Squirrel Hill, a neighborhood of Pittbsurgh, PA - this pizza is surely one that stands up to the competition on the street. We really liked this spot because it hit everything you wanted in a delicious, take home pizza. This spot is cash only. * Sweet Sauce * Pizza was Hot when we got home (20 minute drive) * Plenty of Cheese * Plenty of Delicious Meat (Pep & Sausage) LGBTQIA friendly but no visibly flags. Enjoy!
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
When it comes to the Aiello's/Mineo's rivalry, Aiello's definitely has a better overall pie, but the sauce is too sweet for me to take the pizza into the "best pizza in Pittsburgh" conversation. But hey, some people like pineapple on their pizza.. Its still very good pizza and ordering some garlic sauce for dipping helps balance out the sweetness. The renovations they did are nice and the guys working are no nonsense which I appreciate. Although I wouldn't give it the best pizza title, it's 100% the best place to grab a late-night slice when you're drunk.
google avatar

Margaret G.

Yelp
Meh. I honestly don't see what the fuss is about. Mineo's versus aiello's? They taste the same to me. They both put their toppings under the cheese, they both do a similar crust, they are both cash only, they are even next to each other, practically. I called Aiello's and ordered a large Hawaiian. It's a gourmet pizza off their menu, which meant it was $30. I think that's pretty expensive for just okay pizza. A pizza from Costco is like $10, same size, and just as good if not better. But of course we wanna support local, so there's that. I paid the $30. The Hawaiian had bacon, pineapple, and ham. It was good, but nothing to write home about. Maybe if I had Aiello's and Mineo's side by side I could judge better, but I feel like some chain pizza places just have more interesting, appetizing, and better crust these days that at this price point, it's hard to wanna be a Aiello's fan. At least the guy taking my order was really nice.

Randy K.

Yelp
Best pizza I have ever had. Service is good, however expect a wait unless you order in advance. This place is jam packed most evenings. The ambience is OK, so I usually take my pizza to go. The sauce is a bit sweet but refreshing, the cheese is outstanding and the crust just perfect. If you are in search for some of the best pizza in the country, give this place a try. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Justin P.

Yelp
Best slice in the Burgh. Hands down. In don't wanna hear nothing about the competitor down the street.
google avatar

Aaron W.

Yelp
Aiello's vs. Mineo's is the great Squirrel Hill pizza debate! I think it's impossible to settle because both are so delicious. Aiello's consistently delivers huge and delicious pies at affordable prices. The slices are a bit thinner than Mineo's and definitely have less cheese (though you can up the ante by ordering double cheese). The result is superior flavor overall, where you can really taste the toppings and sauce. The pizza will still fill you up and leave you feeling heavy and happy though. I have also had good luck with their wait times for pickup - usually just 20-25 minutes or so and there is hardly ever a big line at the store. They have kept up the good service during the coronavirus pandemic of 2020! Head there for takeout to support the local business.
google avatar

Yelp
Coldplay bought a slice. They bought a slice for you. In fact they bought another two. And they were all Aiello. I love Pitt style pizza. It's done best by 2 places.. Fiori and Aiello. You should try both of them and decide for yourself which is superior. Aiello is in the much trendier part of town, but is probably my second fave of the two. Still it's easily 5-star pizza. And Pitt has some of the better has-its-own-style pizza of any town in the country, honestly. Only a handful (Buffalo, Detroit, Chicago, NYC) are better to me. So it's an excellent slice of dry, cheesy Pittsburgh-style Pizza. One of the highlights is watching them spin the dough and make the pies right in front of you. They're extremely busy and hectic at the best of times, so don't expect them to always hit the nail on your proverbial head with regards to order accuracy.

Yelp
What's for dinner? (Sunday~ February 9, 2020) Pepperoni & white pizza!!! Meal specs: I ordered a small pepperoni pizza. They have good pizza dough, sauce, cheese & pepperoni!!! The sauce has a sweet hint to it! It could've been cooked just a little longer to get the middle better!! I ordered one slice of white pizza!! It was fresh cooked perfectly & very tasty!! They spread a garlic butter over top with Parmesan cheese!! Yummy!! Bon appétit!!! Pictures

Yelp
My absolute FAVORITE pizza place for traditional pizza in all of Pittsburgh. We live in Wexford but stop at Aiello's anytime we are anywhere near Squirrel Hill. We love the traditional pie with the typical toppings.
google avatar

Isaac M.

Yelp
In Pittsburgh, it's not as easy to come find in-the-case-slices similar to what you'd see in New York and New Jersey. That said, Aiello's Pizza in Squirrel Hill really reminds me of ordering slices back east. A staple of Pittsburgh's pizza scene, Aiello's has undoubtedly earned its spot by filling the "by the slice" niche. The staff is friendly, those behind the counter are helpful and chatty. Not only is the pizza good, but the buffalo wings are solid as well. I only sampled one from my friend, so I didn't get take a picture. A quick, greasy slice after seeing a movie at the Manor is one of my favorite ways to spend an evening in Pittsburgh. If you miss New York style pizza, or have always wanted to try it, Aiello's Pizza in Squirrel Hill is the place to be.

Yelp
Oh my. One of my lifelong favorite pizza shops. I often review places late. I think to myself, "you've been coming here all of your life and you've not reviewed it?" Well, now I am. I love love love the pizza here. It's definitely in my top five. I'm a simple gal and a pizza with double cheese does the job for me. My only complaint is that they don't deliver. I mean they never have but jeez a girl can dream can't she?
