How have I never heard of this place before!? Then again, I'm never in this neck of the woods. The furthest I usually go is 71st and Continental/Austin Street. But a few stops away on the 23 bus has got to be one of Queens' best kept secrets (well, it ain't much of a secret. There are a bunch of YouTube vids about this place. Anywho...)
While on our way to meet friends for a movie in this area, we stumbled across Aigner's. My daughter, eagle eyes that she is, saw it and we decided to check it out. A chocolate wonderland is what it is! They had Marvel chocolates, Star Wars...some of everything. It was the weekend after Valentine's Day and the V-Day chocolates were buy one get one free. I got a Bitcoin shaped chocolate for myself. How can I describe it for anyone who hasn't been here...? Okay, so there's Hershey's chocolate, right? Imagine Hershey's but smoother, lighter, softer, creeeeeeeeeeeeamier, dreeeeeeeeeeeamier and just melts as soon as it touches your tongue. My daughter asked her father to take her back the next day. She was sweet enough to get me some Grogu aka Baby Yoda head shaped chocolate. Mellllllllllllllllted like buttah on my tongue. She's obsessed with their white chocolate which I'll try next time...like, really soon. As soon as I can get back over there.
A young lady greeted us as we entered and offered to help but we needed time to look. I predict that a trip to Aigner's will never be a quick in-and-out. I'm sure they'll have traditional, staple chocolates as well as new, themed stuff to keep it interesting. When we were ready to check out, another sweetheart rang us up and answered my daughter's 20 questions about their chocolates and how they make the cool shapes. I'm sure that if they were on Austin street, they'd have lines going out the door. They'd make a killing! Hmm... Then again, that might lead to them mass producing their chocolate and the quality suffering... Okay, nevermind. Stay nestled away in this quiet Metropolitan Avenue neighborhood. We know where to find ya.
