Aiko - Review - Coconut Grove - Miami - The Infatuation

"If you live within Miami-Dade County and have social media, you’ve likely seen a video of this sushi and sando takeout spot in Coconut Grove. We tried to place an order, but arrived to find they were pretty much out of everything except a few pieces of sushi that were very good. This place has potential, but we suggest waiting for the hype to die down (or preordering days in advance). We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Mariana Trabanino

Google
Such a hidden gem! Tried the Japanese sandos — the egg and the chicken — and both were fantastic. The egg sando was soft, fluffy, and full of flavor, and the chicken one was juicy and perfectly toasted. The coffee was spot on too. Super cozy vibe and really friendly staff. Everything just hit the right note. I’m already planning my next visit! ☕🥪💛😋

Google
The food was yummy. Got the egg and pork katsu sandwich with my husband and we shared one each. They look small but they are quite filling. And their service was amazing! Super friendly and kind customer service. The lady at the counter attended us very well sweet lady. The matcha was good too I recommend.

Tried this spot for the first time and it was delicious. The food was super good, and the lady at the front counter was honestly one of the friendliest people I’ve met. The tamago (egg) sando was my favorite! Perfectly soft, flavorful, and definitely something I’d come back for. Highly recommend checking this place out.

Google
The Tomago egg sandwich and katsu chicken sandwich were both absolutely delicious! 🥪✨ The bread was soft and fresh, the fillings flavorful, and the sauces added the perfect touch. Each bite was pure comfort — simple but so satisfying. Paired with a caramel latte topped with miso foam, it was the ultimate combo — creamy, rich, and perfectly balanced. If you’re looking for a cozy, modern café with amazing sandwiches and coffee, this place is a must-visit!

Google
I wanted to see what all the buzz was about this place, and it delivered! I got their three most popular sandos: chicken breast, wagyu, and strawberry. The wagyu sando was my favorite, and at the $50 price mark, it better be. All were outstanding. Definitely worth trying at least once. On a side note, I also love how intentional and high-quality branding they have going on. As a marketer, I can say they nailed that too 😮‍💨

Google
Came here for a quick lunch and to try the famous Strawberry Sando and it succeeded my expectations! My boyfriend and I split the Tamago Sando and it was to die for. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a cold savory Sando. The Matcha is also a must try!! Maria was very welcoming and attentive. Ask for her when you go in!

Google
Sandwiches were nice, very similar to the ones in Japan. We had the egg, strawberry, chicken, and tonkatsu sandwiches. The chicken was the best, very light and crispy. My husband had the sushi and he said it was very nice for the price as well. The fish was fresh. Customer service was friendly and attentive. Our server Louis was great, always checking to see if we needed anything.

Google
The food here is absolutely amazing. The sushi was incredibly fresh, the kaisendon (seafood rice bowl) was packed with flavor and generous portions, and the katsu sandwiches were perfectly crispy with tender meat inside. Even the strawberry fruit sando was delicious and refreshing. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked. Easily one of the best Japanese meals I’ve had — I’ll definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Most of the reviews are about the food being bad or raw but my experience has been good because first it was a 5 minute wait also the staff are nice also the food was amazingly delicious the pork sandwich is the best in all my experience has been great

Yelp
Finally got lucky early this morning to be able to order some Sando's. We got the chicken and tonkatsu, the egg and the strawberry. I had the egg and it was just as good as I expected it to be. Very flavorful, the bread is so soft and has a slight sweetness. The strawberry was disappointing. Too much cream and too little strawberries. My family had the meat ones and gave them great reviews as well. The service was excellent during pick up and ordering on line was easy. They are a bit on the pricey side but as a treat every once in a while it's worth it, they are really good!

Yelp
I have been seeing this on social media so me and the girls decided to make it an early lunch date. It's a small place that doesn't look like it has much but the menu options will take you straight to Japan. The staff were friendly and helped to make selections, but of course we tried pretty much everything! The sushi is flown in from Japan and you can taste the quality (we had the tuna flight). There were 3 different types of tuna that ranged from your more lean to more fatty dense flavors. The sandos were delicious! We had the egg, chicken katsu, and my girls also tried the pork (I cont eat that but they said it was delicious). We were disappointed that they had none of the wagu, but that just gave us a reason to come back! For dessert, we had the strawberry cream and the strawberry matcha...both were great and the milk bread was so soft. The Japanese sodas were a hit and I tried the Kona coffee to go. I don't drink milk and didn't realize it was coffee plus so it wasn't for me but was still very tasty if that's what you enjoy. Overall we had a great experience and recommend it for something new to try when you are in the area.

Yelp
This is a tough review for me. I really wanted it to be better than what it was, I was hoping for it to transport me back to my days in Japan, but unfortunately it didn't. I wanted to rate it at about 3.5 stars, but rounded up since they're for sure not 3 stars. I will say that the sandwiches are good, but not amazing. It might also be that I had really high expectations going in, no doubt because of my time in Japan. Our favorite sandwich was the Chicken Katsu, followed by the Strawberries and Cream, followed by the Egg. The staff were great and super helpful. Honestly, I am definitely looking to come back at night and try out the Mumu side of the restaurant, because some of what they have sounds amazing!! I think it's a definite try if you haven't yet, and see for yourself what you think. If you do, let me know what you thought.

Yelp
The food is ok. If you don't like onion I don't recommend you ordering this. I hope this helps. The customer service is terrible

Yelp
There was so much hype for this place I wanted to try it badly but they were always sold out. I finally got my hands on the famous sandos. I ordered the tamago sando, chicken katsu sando, and the strawberry sando. I really wanted to like these sando but they were not it for me. The restaurant also needs some more decorations, looks a bit plain. The cashier was friendly and helpful but it does take a long wait to get the sandos. Overall, I'm glad a tried them but it was a one time purchase.

Yelp
I arrived at 12:30 hoping to try the sandos but sadly they were already sold out by then. The place is small with limited sitting area but ideal for a nice quick lunch. The sushi to-go is a pricy but you would expect the quality to match the price. Sadly, the sushi we got didn't quite feel at the quality of the price I was paying for it. The best one was the scallop, salmon and tuna are very mid, as well as the others. It's fresh but not the best quality. I hope I get to try the sandos at some point but seeing as they get sold out too soon I don't think I'll be taking my chance anytime in the near future. Especially since eating sushi any earlier than 12 is not something I do very often.

Yelp
This small Japanese Sando and Sushi restaurant is on 27th Ave between 28th St and 27th St. The Sign outside says Asian Bistro. I was really in the mood for sushi, but I ran out of time during lunch and just got the grab-and-go options in the freestanding fridge that's near the food counter. Wow, that's really all you need! They had exceptional sashimi bowl options with very fresh fish and roe. Look carefully and pick out the one you like. It's all over a bed of sushi rice that's just right. The must-have item at this place is the strawberries and cream Sando that's pre-packed and ready to go. They sell out quickly, according to the host. I arrived at 11:30 AM on a Monday and they were almost sold out. They have some tables and a bar area for you to sit, but it's limited and cramped. I'm sure the line outside gets long during peak hours. It's worth the wait.

Yelp
Tried a few new items on their menu and was surprised that they have made their sando choices with more variety, I tried the golden ebi sando and it was delish, crispy warm and seasoned perfectly and was balanced with a slight spicy dusting of togarashi on top. They also have coffee now and the coffee I ordered was well balanced and not too sweet, I loved it.

Yelp
First time at this restaurant. I went with my mother and my sister and the place was clean. We wanted sushi and they informed us sushi is only available in the weekend. Which I think should be available everyday especially if it is in the menu. They only have a limited menu and weekdays they only offer sandwiches. We ended up not eating here. The employees did have great customer service.

Yelp
They seem to have a VERY big issue with inconsistency. This place is sadly a hard pass.

Yelp
This Japanese cafe checks off all the boxes. They've got ultra fresh sushi, free parking in the back, a ventanita, a ton of indoor seating, gorgeous fun cafes, and of course, sandos. This gorgeous egg sando may be the best in the city with a gorgeous runny egg. It's the only sando in Miami that has reminded me of Japan. They recently expanded their menu with new drinks, the salted Carmel latte is a can't miss. We got it over ice. We tried the Wagyu Katsu Sando and she was gorgeous. We also tried something different their Oozy Cheese Pork Katsu. She was ooey she was gooey and complex. But of course you can't have a Sando without a dessert Sando, this one combines red bean and matcha and it's delicious. What makes their sandos stand out is because it's the only spot in Miami that actually nails the soft pillowy bread. But I am here to tell you that they are now bringing back their sushi and they even have some deals on the weekend.

Yelp
Went super early on a sat, right when they opened and ordered what we wanted online before going to actual store. They already had multiple orders ready for pickup. We got the chicken, egg and strawberry. The chicken sandwich was still warm and that made it that much btr. The egg and strawberry were just as good although wished there was just a bit more strawberries. Service was quick too bc we decided to add a chirashi bowl. Wow sushi was so fresh! Would def go bk again and again

Yelp
08/2025 Rating: 3.5 Just interested in the Sandos and based on what I learned from my research, you are able to place an online order at 6pm for the next day via their website. After many tries, I finally lucked out yesterday. Very curious if these Sandos are as good as the ones we had in Japan years ago. Located near US1 and the new Grove Central, it's was quite a drive for me and parking is scarce. We lucked out and to found a street parking nearby on this early Saturday morning. RESTAURANT: As soon as we spotted the restaurant, who's name outside they have yet to change, we saw a long line out the door. The restaurant itself is not very big. The decor is minimal but complimentary of the contemporary furnitures that are the table and chairs. The white counter is huge and empty at this time, but I imagine it full of omakase customers at night. The space is neat and clean, including the restroom. SERVICE: We had very brief interaction with the staff. We went in and picked up our order and ate and left. From what I witnessed, the staff were really patient with explaining to everyone in the line the situation with the sandos. They had a line for people walking in and in that line someone is taking credit card payment and someone and on the other side someone is assiting with pick up orders. FOOD: We were able to snag the egg sando, tonkotsu and the strawberry and cream sando. The presentation is truly pleasing to eyes, including the packaging. The bread is thick, fresh and fluffy. The egg sando looked vibrant especially that whole boiled egg with it's bright, ozzy yoke in the middle. The egg salad was good, although not as good as my mom's. Could use a little bit of salt and pepper and maybe some paprika, but it was satisfying nonetheless. The tonkotsu was also good. The light slaw with the porkchop had a nice and subtle flavor. I do wish that the meat was little bigger and that there were more slaw. Then the strawberry cream; this tasted as I remember. I love the airiness of the cream and its subtle sweetness that complements the light tartness of the strawberries. Everything tasted really fresh. There is an oven fridge with a fresh selection of ready to eat sushi but no more sandos. They have a variety of drink options that are in bottles and cans. Overall, this was a nice experience. It definitely brought me back to our Japan trip in 2019. But for over $50 for three sandwiches that you have to order the day before at a specific time or they will sell out, and then drive all the way there and find and pay parking, I don't think it's worth it. I understand the pricepoint with their attention to quality and detail with packaging and the location; although the food is good, it did not blow my mind per se nor is it something that I can afford on a weekly basis. I do look forward to returning when they get their restaurant and menu situated.

Yelp
Went once middle of day and found out almost everything was sold out so I placed an order the night before to try. Not as good as the ones in Japan. Cute, tasted ok but overpriced and not worth the hype nor the hassle (how do I know that's what I wanna eat the next day?)

Yelp
The food is amazing and delicious. The service was friendly and helpful. The dinning area is simple and open space.

Yelp
Excellent food. We had the chicken sando, strawberry sando and the omakase sushi box. Sushi was fresh and lots of diversity of flavors/fish. The real stars of our meal were the Sandos! Absolutely delicious. The chicken was crispy and the veggies fresh, and the strawberries perfectly ripe in a fluffy light cream. Nice cozy atmosphere. Easy enough street parking. Highly recommend!

Yelp
(3 stars) Overhyped and overpriced. I had been curious to try Aiko and Mumu for a while, but honestly, I left disappointed. They only make small batches of their sandos, which feels unnecessarily exclusive and honestly frustrating. And the prices? Outrageous. $16 for a single sando is just insane--like they're treating them as if they were made of gold. I ordered two: the egg sando (usually my favorite anywhere else) and the strawberries & cream. Both looked cute, but the flavor was just... okay. The egg one was fine, nothing special, and the strawberries & cream felt more about presentation than taste. For $16 a piece, I was expecting something mind-blowing, not just average. On top of that, the location is extremely far, which made the whole experience even less worth it. Between the distance, the ridiculous prices, and the underwhelming flavor, I left feeling like I wasted my time and money. Save your money and definitely don't make the drive. Cute idea, but nowhere near worth the hype or the cost. I won't be back

Yelp
For Socials, Not Your Taste Buds Queued up for the hype, left with dry bread and disappointment. We bought into the hype, stood in line before the doors even opened, and ordered the works: egg sando, katsu sando, matcha and strawberry sando, plus the strawberries and cream sando. Visually? Adorable. Like something straight out of a Tokyo café Pinterest board. Taste-wise? Womp womp. Every single one was lacking flavor, the katsu was dry, and the bread on all of them had that "sat out just a little too long" vibe. Cute doesn't cover bland, and for a place built around bread and filling, that's kind of the job. I wanted fluffy, pillowy bites bursting with flavor. What I got was dry, meh, and forgettable. If you're chasing a photo op, you'll get it. If you're chasing actual taste, you'll leave wondering what all the fuss is about.

Yelp
IGNORE the negative reviews. Those reviewers are clearly a bunch of entitled brats who have never experienced a family shop. High demand=sold out earlier - so order for pickup OR plan accordingly. If you're leaving 2 starts and you didn't eat the food and the owners were nice, reevaluate your life. Rant over. Yes! Finally a phenemonal Sando! This is a much needed addition to SoFlo! And they were incredibly nice. Will be ordering again and again and again

Dante S.

Yelp
I got the chicken katsu sando and iced caramel miso latte, both were delicious. The chicken was crispy and moist and the bread was so soft. The caramel miso latte was yummy and came with a salt foam that made it more balanced. Pick up was easy and the staff seemed nice.

Ana P.

Yelp
I was excited to try the sandos after seeing all the hype on Instagram/tiktok. Ordered the strawberry sando and chicken katsu sando. The cream in the strawberries was nice but it only had those four strawberry slices in the sandwich. I felt like I could've made this at home. The chicken katsu was ok, had mustard which I didn't think paired well. Very overpriced, total for both was $30. I would probably try another sando if it were cheaper.

Yelp
first things first, Japanese culture is about hospitality and quality of ingredients we saw chef (he is Chinese btw )my wife and I both said hello. Got zero response from him. We proceeded to pick up our order. its was a mission to order having to be online at 6 o'clock on the dot to try to place an order we ordered the egg sando the chicken sando, the Matcha strawberry and their premium omakase box all were let down, fish was warm kinda tasted old, the chicken Katsu sandwich unbelievably dry, the egg salad sandwich no seasoning, the bread was dry. Matcha strawberry no Matcha flavor. We had high hops but it's all hype from these food bloggers sorry but this is a one and done.

Michele S.

Yelp
I really wanted to love it but it was just ok and not worth the price. The staff was great especially blond woman at the counter but the bread on the Sando almost tasted stale like it was not fresh and for $7 for a half a cream sandwich with 3 strawberries it just didn't hit. I really wanted to love it but I wouldn't make the effort to go back was just ok
