Airline Brewing Company Pub - Ellsworth

Google
Great place off the regular tourist options. Good prices, friendly service and good food. The cottage pie is scorching hot. The pretzel sticks with beer cheese are delicious. The chicken salad on romaine lettuce is shredded chicken on a bed of lettuce. The selection of beer is very good. The red ale on nitro is fantastic! The peanut butter stout has a great peanut butter flavor. Everything great.

Food was just okay, beer was tasty but flat, service was friendly but lacking, atmosphere was cozy. One thing they offer from their Irish pub reminescent menu is a rather large "loaded" baked potato with various topping options. I had a bacon/chicken/ranch loaded potato which was that day's special. However the shredded chicken in the potato was completely bland, and drier than the Atacama desert - the driest desert in the world! 🏜 To be fair I ordered it with ranch on the side (maybe should've asked for butter or something in the potato to help moisten the chicken). In any case the dreaded dry-shredded chicken turned almost to a powder consistency on the tongue; it was a very strange mouth feel. 😛 I forgot the name of it, but the beer I ordered had a nice rounded maltiness to it with hints of caramely bread; a very well-balanced grain profile that was familiar but still interesting. My one complaint is that it was served with no visible head, completely flat and there just wasn't much carb to the beer at all. Not sure if this was intentional or a mistake during the kegging process. I would've enjoyed it more if it had 2.3-2.5 volumes of CO2 in terms of carb level which would be more in the conventional range for that style of beer. 🍺 The service was okay, everyone was really nice. I just don't like asking for stuff like napkins & silverware, water refills etc.🍴 It is a nice cozy little place to grab a beer in the summer, or warm up after a hike in the winter 🔥

Google
Best day ever. Small place and fantastic atmosphere. Max was running things like a champ. We had the clam chowder, broccoli cheddar soup, and steak & ale pie. Everything was perfect. We tried everything on draft and didn’t drink anything we wouldn’t have again. Max, you rock!

Sam Ryan G.

Google
Ambiance: Irish Pub style Service: AMAZING. Our server was bouncing around between the bar and dining area to make sure that everyone was taken care of. One person show! Food: Loved the fish tacos!

Sherry S.

Google
Be aware that this is a beer and cider place with mediocre food & no cocktails. Had to order quickly since the kitchen closes an hour before the bar. The clam chowder had hard potato chunks and rubbery clam. The lukewarm beer cheese just tasted like cheese. The baked potatoes & the Rueben looked good though!

Benton S.

Google
The atmosphere is amazing. I love getting a flight and trying all the weird beers they have. The Schoodic Sunrise does not disappoint and I get it every time. The food is pretty good.

Google
We really enjoyed stopping here for dinner. It's a small space, so that's something to keep in mind if it's a busy time of day; however, the food was fantastic and the beer menu has a pretty good variety. The clam chowder was delicious. My friends both loved their meals (steak & cheese toasty and fish tacos). We got seated quickly and got our food just as fast. Definitely a great place to hit up.

Rob P.

Google
Classic English pub with good food and amazing beer. The chowder and Steak & Ale pie were both very good. Every beer in my flight was excellent. Highly recommend the NE IPA, Red Ale and SOB, but I didn’t have a bad one in the group.

Yelp
The ambiance of a small pub with a lavish delectable menu. The brews are always quality as is the service you'll get from the service staff. I had been wanting to try the homemade pork sausage roll that has apple incorporated. The make the sausage and the pastry surround. I love this place because they are careful with their creations and you can taste the measure of care in your tummy, resulting in an elation of spirit! I first tried the peanutbutter stout but wanted to keep my beer brown and let the sausage speak for itself. It did! Alongside some nice peas and mash with the very savory tasting brown gravy almost buttery like the brown brews! This is one you can bank on! See you all next time! Can't wait -

Yelp
Service: Spectacular service! Our waitress was a one person powerhouse and made sure everyone in the room was taken care of by manning the bar and the dining area! Ambiance: This looks like a traditional Irish pub (at least a US styled Irish pub. I am not sure what the ones in Ireland look like yet LOL) Food: I wasn't super hungry, so my husband ordered the fish tacos so I can have a few bites. I thought the fish tacos were OK. However, my husband LOVED them! He thought they were delicious.

Yelp
In town to visit Acadia and we wanted a brewery and we were interested in this menu and beer list. We were very pleasantly surprised! And we came back a second time because the Irish Pub was a bust! In-laws, husband and I ate something different both times so we can say that the sausage roll, steak and ale pie, drunken chicken pot pie, clam chowder (think and tasty) and cottage pie are all delicious. The Miners melt was ok, but sausage roll was better. Beer cheese is rich and yummy too! Their gravy is excellent with a rich stout base. Service was great despite there being one server, (both times!) she was very busy but attentive. This is very reminiscent of an old pub (my experience being Irish pubs but still similar right?) With unique intimate seats and fun decor. Loved the nooks too!

Yelp
Unassuming spot in Ellsworth, yet, pretty good! My family visited for dinner and tried a bunch of different plates. The BLT was a hit in our family.
google avatar

Yelp
Fun, Friendly, Flavorful. You'll be transported to the UK in this classical English pub. At least it's what I imagine an English pub would look like. They serve a uniquely delicious menu. I ordered the Traditional Cornish Pasty and it was very good. The pastry was delicious and so were the mashed potato's and gravy. The peas and carrots went with the dish well though I'm surprised they used frozen vegetables during a time when Maine still has a bounty of farm fresh foods. My husband had a few tasters of beer and ended up taking home a couple 4-packs. That's a big compliment because he doesn't really drink beer anymore.
google avatar

Cyrill D.

Yelp
Great sage and fennel sausage in the Jumbo Sausage roll. Scottish envy beer was red and smooth. Great balanced flavor. Steak and ale pie had great gravy and flaky pastry. Mashed potatoes were smothered potatoes with a lot of garlic and peas were not soft.

Yelp
One server there. She was hustling but the place is too big for just one person. Hard stools. Beer was good and portions were large. Nothing special about the flavor though. A place for locals but not vacationers

Nana L.

Yelp
Great food. OKAY prices. But the unattentive staff make the entire time a drag. Would prob go back but only if I was treated by others... I am not paying for another experience like that.

Michele B.

Yelp
The food was innovative and good. The service was kind and efficient. The atmosphere was unique and antique and the crowd was happy and friendly. How could we not like it?
google avatar

Emma S.

Yelp
The cottage pie was delicious! The garlic mashed potatoes on top were so good. The gravy they served with it was really good too. Just wish they had garlic bread or fries to have as a side too. Very small but cute inside.

Peter H.

Yelp
I do not normally leave bad reviews but this was not good. The drinks were decent but the food was way below average. The wait staff was nice but overwhelmed. I will not go back.
google avatar

Julie T.

Yelp
Excellent ambiance and Christina the manager was excellent. Friendly locals and really good beers. We had the Reuben quesadilla it was fantastic! Highly recommend.
google avatar

Shelby T.

Yelp
Friendly staff and good atmosphere. The Lobster Mac and cheese was the best thing I've eaten!
google avatar

Danielle R.

Yelp
This is the cutest (although very small--you might have to wait!) pub. The comfort food is sooo good. Our group had the cottage pie and the traditional pastry--both were great. Kids loved the mac and cheese. Great beers too. Great atmosphere--felt like you were on a European getaway! Would definitely go again--lots more beers to try!
google avatar

Jack T.

Yelp
The UK ambiance of this place was perfect! The service was phenomenal...i asked the bartender to choose my second beer and it was exactly the flavor profile I was looking for. The food was delicious and high quality for a brewery...i had stuffed mushrooms and a pesto flatbread. Absolutely recommend!

Dave W.

Yelp
Great beer and toasties. The service is always friendly and fast. The wooden benches need cushions, but the bar is comfortable.
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
What a bummer. We stopped in here for dinner on a Wednesday night. There was one bartender working the entire place, which probably seats 30. The bartender was nice and was doing the best she could. The beer I tried was good and they had good variety. It all fell apart with the food. We waited a hour and ten minutes for a salad and a baked potato. We were seated at the bar and I saw the bartender enter our order but somehow several other people with bigger orders had their food arrive way before ours. The food was fine, it's a salad and baked potato. If you're going to just drink, this place is a decent option but if you plan to eat, just keep this review in mind. Also, if you're a large party, bigger than 4 people, you may have a hard time getting a table.

B E.

Yelp
Excellent service Excellent beer Food? Nope. Rueben was loaded with gristle. Parts were just inedible . Bangers and mash served with wrinkled peas and salty old gravy. Poor quality sausage. Go and have an amazing beer the go somewhere else to eat.

Sarah H.

Yelp
Consider avoiding. Website clearly posted that the kitchen closes 1 hour before posted closing which is 10 pm on Sundays. Showed up at 8:40 pm after a long trip with hungry kids. Was turned down for food because they'd already made a last call for the kitchen. Never mind it was an hour and 20 minutes before closing! Subpar service and zero hospitality. Won't spend my money here.

Yelp
We were looking for something off the beaten path away from all the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor. Place is warm and inviting. Great food and beer! Kylee knocked it out of the park with her service. She was very accommodating and attentive. Super friendly too! I feel like many English Style Pubs get away with mediocre food and beer. This place is on top of their game and so much better than the "standard" English Style Pub.
google avatar

Paul R.

Yelp
Not sure how this place gets 4.5 Service was not great... food was very unspectacular... beer was average ... decor is worn out I can't think of anything that leans in the direction of existing rating?
google avatar

Yelp
We left Bar Harbor a neighboring town, and it was late. The only places open for food were a couple fast food joints and this place. We thought we'd grab a quick bite and head the two hours back. Unfortunately it wasn't quick, or even timely. We walked in, and it's a small place. Seats maybe 30 people including bar, if you pack them in. We grabbed the only two open seats at the bar. We weren't drinking though, and I think that's were we fell through the cracks. The bartender was clearly busy, but 2 groups who came in after us, and were drinking, were served and gone by the time we got our food. We waited an hour for a baked potato/salad and the cottage pie. A full hour. And it took us all of 10-15 minutes to eat it because we were starving and exhausted. Once people started to clear out, the bartender seemed to notice we were pretty over it and showed up a bit more. And the food was alright, nothing to complain about there. It's a brewing company, and they seemed to have a nice little selection of specialty brews.

Karson S.

Yelp
Lovely small place - the beer cheese and chips was a standout, and their Hefeweizen was OUTSTANDING! We tried a few other beers, and I'm not sure if their tap was acting up, but a few seemed a little flat. The location and the intimate pub setting was really what we enjoyed most about this unique place! You're basically transported to London. We arrived and all tables were full, but one opened up very quick. Our waitress was very attentive and quick. We were so glad to find a place open past 8pm since most other places were closed by that time as we were leaving Acadia. We didn't get any of the signature dishes, so I can't speak to all of the food options. However we did have a burger & a chili spud - both were okay, but I'd like to go back to try the steak and pastry dish one day!

Yelp
Set on Main St. in Ellsworth, Airline came handy after a day of Hiking, Antiquing, walking on the Beach just about anywhere on Mt. Desert Island and pretty much being all over the entire island. Come to Airline Brewing for the friendly atmosphere, excellent pub eats and of course beer- if that's what you're after. The interior features high ceilings, big ol' [cool] red quilted leather benches, maybe 5-6 sizable tables, a corner round booth and the bar. The restaurant isn't large- so it's really nice to see that even during COVID, folks here are managing the area well. I mean...this place is cozy. Period. I don't drink beer but hubs enjoyed his Maine Ales while I had a nice tasting, 'Maniac Mac' Cider. My Broiled Haddock+Lett.Toma Sandwich on Brioche was fantastic and hubs also liked his BLT and mashed spuds with an Ale gravy. We actually noticed the table next to us with Pretzels and decided to do the same. This British pub has the right ingredient! It's a little gem and food is fantastic.
google avatar

Gary W.

Yelp
Nice little pub with a good selection of local brews. I tried the jumbo sausage roll. Not knowing what to expect I was very surprised and pleased. The better half played it safer and had the BLT. She was also pleased were her selection and neither of us left hungry. The waitress recommended a local brew to my liking and I left with a 4 pack and some free coasters. Get there early because there isn't a lot of seating and first come first seated. Saw several people just sitting around talking so I believe this might be a local hangout.

Yelp
Food was wicked good!! Clam chowder was amazing, crab dip was fantastic!! Cottage pie was full of meat and fresh veggies!! Beers were great!! NE Double IPA was my fav!! Will come back soon!!!
google avatar

Tara G.

Yelp
Found this hidden gem on Yelp as we were driving by. As long as you are good with being told where to sit (limited space), you are in for some of the best food and lively brews you have ever had. The crab dip was amazing, the toasties were full of flavor, and the Cottage pie was fantastic. (Ask for an extra side of gravy) food was fast and the PB stout was amazing.
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
Awesome environment. Incredible beers. Nitro and cask options! Not just IPA's! Sausage Roll was superb. Don't skip this place.

Cheryl F.

Yelp
Great food and beer. They were understaffed but it was still a great experience. Cute little bar!
google avatar

Belinda R.

Yelp
Late BIRTHDAY lunch for 2. Empty when we walked in. Perfect ambience. We ordered the deviled eggs, needed salt, the soft pretzel sticks, so good. The cheese dip was perfect as well. The calm chowder was served a bit cold, on a cold day, could have been a little tastier. The stuffed mushroom were the bomb! Nice and hot, stuffed with cheese, bacon, and spinach. They were nice and juicey as well. Our bartender/ waiter was Logan. He did a great job, tended to the whole place himself. Stop by and enjoy the bar, since I didn't.
google avatar

Doran G.

Yelp
Cool space with some nice craft beers on tap. Bartender was very nice, great service as well. Bret eod a beer cheese we're perfect with the tasty beers.

Yelp
As a Dallas Tx native, I'm excited to try new foods from all over the country! This place is quaint & nestled downtown Ellsworth which was only a mile from my airbnb. I was immediately greeted by the friendly staff & got a seat in the corner. I ordered a Texas Blonde beer as this IS a brewery & I don't even drink. Maybe two or 3 alcoholic beverages a year yet this beer was delicious. I ordered a Jumbo Sausage sandwich thing with peas & mash potatoes & gravy! I could have played it safe with a burger of nachos but I refuse to eat any local normal like food. The mash & peas were delectable & the sausage had a minty flavor that I wasn't particularly partial too but I ate every bite as I didn't wanna offend anyone & I'm fat! lol Anyway! Great place, I'll be back to try more interesting food items as the menu has a ton of variety!

Jordan C.

Yelp
Only got beers and the stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer so can't speak for any entrees. The mushrooms were delicious though, but the review is mostly for the exceptional service. It was a one man show with the bartender running all the tables too. We never had to wave her down or wait for anything. It was impressive!
google avatar

Liz A.

Yelp
Airline is a cute brewpup with okay food. They have a good selection of beers on tap with some nitro options. They also have Downeast ciders on tap. We ordered the ABC signature beer cheese & chips for an appetizer and that was delicious and came out quickly. For entree's, we ordered the pub burger and the buffalo chicken salad. The burger was very over-cooked and the salad was unimpressive - small bed of lettuce, two thin slices of tomato, and hardly any buffalo flavor on the grilled chicken. The inside is very small so the place fills up quickly and the 2 servers are so busy also tending the bar. I might come back here for a beer but definitely get dinner elsewhere.

Yelp
My family and I walked in eager to enjoy the Irish atmosphere only to be met with an extremely rude staff member. We initially walked in noticing that it was packed except for a table that was empty. We asked if they had room for four of us which they told us that they were full and to check back in an hour. They didn't ask for a name or anything, just told us to check out their Pub across the street called Fin's. We left, checked with Fin's, and they had a longer wait time as well as the atmosphere we were not looking for. We came back seeing if they would put our name down while we would wait for the hour. She yelled over the whole brewery singling us out saying that we could not wait inside (it was pouring outside). I politely said that it was fine and was just wondering if we could put our name down or anything like that. She again yelled loud enough for place to become silent, saying that we can't wait here and to check back in an hour and hope we got a spot. Again, there was a open table right in front of us. Seemed like a good place, just not the best customer service. She was not clear at all with their policies on tables or anything. Edit: Go to Fogtown! They treat you like humans! Super good beer and much better INCLUSIVE atmosphere for my multi-racial family.
google avatar

Kim S.

Yelp
When the reviews say it's comfort food, let me assure you it truly is! This is a very cozy establishment with only 7 tabletops and 6 bar stools. We started with the pretzel sticks which were hot and fresh. We ordered a 5 ounce sample of the peanut butter stout and the raspberry mint wit. I loved the pb stout--great flavor. We shared an order of the steak and ale pie which came with peas and mashed potatoes. The bartender/server was so sweet and made taking care of the whole place look easy. I'd love to have one like this near my home.

Lena K.

Yelp
Real jem in the Ellsworth downtown. Perfect British pub, great selection of local beers. Reuben quesadilla was to die for. Great service from Bar-women who was very friendly and could take good jokes! Schooner beer was a great delish surprise for our taste buds. We also saw option of beer samplers in the menu, great idea! Well done and we will be back!
google avatar

Daniel Z.

Yelp
Great Maine brew options. Loved the Spruce brew and it truly tasted like pine. Warm and cozy place with board game options. My wife probably wished she hadn't pulled out the checkers. Good time and good service.

Diane P.

Yelp
Nice local bar with fair selection of beers on tap. Friendly bartender. We did not eat here.

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
We absolutely LOVE this place! The staff is so friendly, and the food is AMAZING!! We highly recommend the Loaded Potato Soup, Beer Cheese and Chips and English Garden Salad! I'm sure our list of recommendations could go on and on! This place is a definite return to spot when we are in town!
google avatar

Twila T.

Yelp
Highly inconsistent food with rude service. I want to like this place but they really need to think about customer service in all of its aspects.
google avatar

Jana S.

Yelp
Quaint little brewery in a small town, off the beaten path. Great variety of beer. For us, an Oatmeal Stout and the English IPA. Nachos appetizer to eat, with beer cheese, homemade chili, jalapeños and sour cream...hits the spot! It's decorated like an English pub.
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
So really cute place but really small. If you like a good selection of beer and good beer this is your place. If you like great food and customer service then avoid this place. They really need for the courtesy of customer a greeting person to take names. We walked in and was yelled at and said FULL sorry come back. We waited outside and some couples left. So we went in and was told NOT READY FOR YOU YET. We should have just went to one of the many restaurants in the block. Caution but if you do go ENJOY.
google avatar

Christine B.

Yelp
Come for the beer. Lots of choices in this very English pub. Food is good. Recommend the chowder, pretzel sticks and any of the toasties. It's tiny but punches above its weight. Worth it!
google avatar

Debbie M.

Yelp
Can't say enough nice about this quaint local pub in Ellsworth Maine. The Irish fare as well as other local favorites were fresh and deliciously prepared. The local brews are to be savored and sampled. The two Nitro brews were favorites among the ladies and the Scottish Export and Brown ales were also a hit. The jumbo sausage roll is highly recommended for a new take on a Banger, but never fear traditional bangers and mash are also on the menu.
google avatar

Cindy C.

Yelp
Walked in at airline Brewing at 11:30 am for lunch . Only 2 people at the bar and nobody else in the place . It obviously wasn't cleaned from the night before , because the table we always sit at when we come here was discussing. And the table next to us was also gross . The floor looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a month . They have a guy waiting on people at the bar and at the tables , then he goes DOWNSTAIRS to cook what we ordered. I ordered the spud and salad. The potato looked like it was over cooked but it was cold , NOT EVEN A LITTLE WARM . The salad was ok . Lees food was just as bad potato's and gravy definitely was not what they advertise. The bangers were just sausage bought from the store . Mashed potatoes were cold and the vegetables were far from fresh . The ONLY thing that I like about this place was leaving !!!! My husband has spoke to the owners via messenger about a years ago about how bad the food was so we figured we would try it again. Well no positive change at all ! Just got worse!
google avatar

Mallory D.

Yelp
Yum! The staff was friendly and gave a great suggestion for the special of the night, sausage ale pie. It was so delicious! The puff pastry was flakey and the sausage had great flavor. It came with peas and mashed potatoes. Perfect meal after hiking at Acadia on a cold day. Also ordered the blueberry cider which was good!
google avatar

Martin H.

Yelp
I had an issue with his bar. I posted my concerns, and I am grateful that the owner reached out to me and we have discussed what happened. The fact that the owner did this speaks volumes. He cares about his business, he's making changes to see that the problems don't repeat, and hopefully will continue to grow his business. Small, quality businesses like this should thrive, and luckily the fact you can interact with he owner to help them improve is essential. I can't wait to return in the early summer next year.

Shannon I.

Yelp
This place was exactly what we were looking for! All of our meals were plentiful and delicious. The service was awesome and the atmosphere grand!
