The Best Atlanta Restaurants for Plane Spotting | Eater Atlanta

"Because of the pure sprawl of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, at over 4,000 acres, it’s safe to say there are plenty of places with an “airport view.” But this Southern-style cafeteria on the northeast end, only open for weekday lunch, is worth planning around. Sit near the large windows over a plate of baked chicken, turnip greens, and apple cobbler." - Caroline Eubanks

Google
Great Southern cafeteria-style food at a very affordable price. Your classic meat and two, or meat and three fare. Take time to go by and experience it for lunch one day. Despite their not having a website or any active social media, you won't be disappointed.

Chy L

Google
I give this place a rating of 8 out of 10 for 10 being the best for the following reasons. The price is good, the food is good, for it being a cafeteria style the service is good. It's a great place to get wholesome food without paying an astronomical price. Don't forget to try their sweet tea.

Google
Good food, great price, cafeteria style. I eat here for lunch often and get a plate to go. Very friendly staff.

Google
Great customer service with large portions. Views of the airport runway. Best prices in town. I will be back.

Google
This place is a hidden gem of a restaurant serving the workers in and around the Hapeville area. A cafeteria style southern 'meat and 2 veg' kinda place that serves consistently good, tasty, and filling meals. This place isn't going to show up on a Michelin guide, it's not a place to take a date, but it is a place where you will get a good meal for a VERY reasonable price that will sustain you during your work day. My office is nearby, and when I am in Atlanta I make it a point to come here as part of my regular rotation of lunch spots in the area.

Google
Quick and easy meat and two vegetables. Food was great and reasonably prices.

Google

Google
Super friendly staff. Very kind and helpful. The food is okay. They have free kim-chi which I thought was neat. It's an excellent place if your waiting for an arrival at the airport.

Yelp
Food is good and is fairly priced for the amount of food you get. My favorite is the boneless chicken and the chicken and dressing.

Yelp
Awesome experience! We went there for lunch after visiting the delta flight museum. My 9 y.o son who loves airplane watching enjoyed the view while eating comfort food. The service was great too. The 2 ladies who served us were very nice and accomodating.

Yelp
The Airport view is so enjoyable during the lunch hour. Love the cafeteria style. There is always something you will enjoy. I had Turkey and Dressing today and it was fantastic. The service is always pleasant as well. Give it a try.

Yelp
Went to the restaurant for mothers day with my husband and parents in law. So many issues. 1. Husband ordered a vegetarian stir-fry with rice. He received chicken stir fry with noodles. 3. Father in law ordered the steak. The sauce that came with steak was pepper sauce. However it was nothing like the sauce. The waitress refused to believe there was anything wrong it!! ( until we were leaving, she stated they forgot to add the cream to the sauce). 3. I didn't have a starter, but I didn't realise that it be around an hour and twenty minutes to the main dish to be served. 4. Mother in laws chicken was dry and the ham was tough. 5. When I asked the waitress when the main was going to be server (around 70 min after arrival), she said its been cooked. 6. When I asked the waitress about the chicken in the vegetarian dish, she didn't apologise, offer a free coffee or dessert, just said oh the chef must of put of thought it was chicken stir-fry!!!! I have been here several times before this, and never has the service been so bad. And I know sometimes people are just having bad days, but what I find shameful and disappointing, is that there was no apology or recognition of mistakes made or the wait for our food

Yelp
When traveling, I often crave a good home cooked meal. I couldn't of asked for a better fit. I walked in was excited to see that it was a simple, cafereria-style restaurant with a long list of southern staples to choose. I had the beef stew with gravy and rice, green beans (cooked just like my mom's) and the macaroni and cheese. The staff was quick, friendly and helpful. We were in and out in 30 mins. Thank you so much- I will be back!

Yelp
We had a large group. Apparently you want to get in early before the lunch rush or you'll be waiting in line for a hot minute... The staff was very friendly and the food was good. I'd go back.

Yelp
If you have about $6 in your pocket, dashboard, ash tray, or maybe in your desk at work then you can stop here for a wonderful Southern style meal. I have been coming here every week for over a year now. I think they close at 2 so come early. Your plates will be full of food so don't worry about not getting full. This is one of my two favorite Asian owned Southern Style spots in the Hapeville area. I am here almost every Thursday as soon as thy open for their Turkey and Dressing. The Turkey and Dressing is considered one item so you get two more veggies with this meal. I always get an extra dressing and one more veggie. But I will say that Turkey can sometimes be dry so make sure you get some gravy or broth. I opt for rolls instead of the cornbread and then I have a seat. I have enjoyed everything on the menu with the exception of the country fried steak and the peach cobbler. My coworkers complained that the pork chops are too fatty. Other than that I am pleased with every non-pork item on the menu. Wait I have never tried the salad bar nd the Sweet Tea is just OK and if you love salt the you will need to add some salt nd probably some pepper too. If you are in the mood for a Southern home cooked food and you are in the area, I thing this place is a good choice. Don't forget your frequent visitor card.

Yelp
The food was really good I enjoy everything, the staff was very very friendly and welcoming, very clean location I have no complain at all if you in the area stop in you would enjoy it. Food is ready to go. If you and a rush and need something quick here the spot to get it. Also you get a view of the airport that's always a plus.

Yelp
This was my first time at this restaurant, as my boss wanted to try something new and I have seen it many times before leaving work. So as some of the reviews mentioned, it's sorta cafeteria style.... you get in line, pick your food, pay & seat your self. However, the very nice wait staff came by a few times refilling drinks. It was a very nice experience and the food was delicious! I would go back for sure!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food, excellent prices friendly service! Southern style comfort food! It's al-cart style! The give you hardy portion sizes! Greatly seasoned food! It's seasoned well ! Try it you'll come back! And if you don't at least the service was EXCEPTIONAL

Yelp
This restaurant shows open on Website, but drove there and they are closed. I was in the area, friends said, let's go to Airport View Resturant. Got there and they were closed. Don't know if or when they will be open! Call first!
google avatar

Garland W.

Yelp
It's a shame that the Airport View is now closed, and who knows if - or when - it will reopen. I've been there dozens of times over the years and always enjoy it. The country fried steak and meatloaf are among the best anywhere. Love the fried fish and coleslaw on Fridays! Sides are served in generous portions, and you can wash it all down with fresh brewed tea. The owners and staff are super friendly, always smiling and eager to please. The price is right. If you want a meat and three, or a meat and two, there's nowhere better in the airport area.

Yelp
When you first walk in, you feel like you're walking into someone's household. There is a definite cafeteria style to the place. BUT THIS PLACE has AMAZING FOOD!!! Recommendations: FRIED CHICKEN MAC N CHEESE And i like the green beans too Pretty much my go to lunch. And it's Cheap. $7.99 for all that food!
google avatar

Serena T.

Yelp
I must have gone on a bad day, and it closes at 3, so was at the end. The food was dry, bland, and salty. I had vegetables and bake chicken. The staff, and owner were nice and a great view of the planes. I would not particularly go for the food. But location and atmophere, I would go again.

Yelp
Lately, I've been on a Southern food craze, which eventually let me to Airport View Restaurant. Upon going inside the restaurant, I was surprised to see a cafeteria-style line and really cheap prices. i ordered dark meat chicken, macaroni and cheese, and collared greens along with corn bread. I was very skeptical at the fact that the food was already prepared. While waiting in line, our server asked what drink we wanted so that we could get our beverages by the time we got to the cashier. Within minutes, I was already sitting down and felt uneasy about what I was about to eat. Although the food was quick, the food was also great. The macaroni and cheese was one of the better ones I have had; it wasn't too rich or creamy. The collared greens were average whereas the dark chicken was spectacular. The restaurant was spacious, but my favorite part was that you could actually see airplanes through the windows. I guess they called it Airport View Restaurant for a good reason.
google avatar

Carol O.

Yelp
Excellent!!! The best peach cobbler you will ever eat!!! If you are near Atlanta airport you must try this place!

Patricia R.

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise. Actually has airplane/airport views (lots of big windows), very clean, home-y and inviting. Buffet-style but so fresh, very friendly serving staff, extremely inexpensive though full servings of everything...and incredibly inexpensive. Meat & 2 plus either cornbread or dinner roll around $6. Had Cabbage and Sausage dish (so good!), green beans, Mac 'n Cheese (delish), and a soft warm dinner roll. Will definitely go back - wish I got down there more often! Thank you for a wonderful meal, great service, clean facility and great view :)

Yelp
This place serves up incredibly affordable home-style cooking and at about 10:00 am every day my mouth starts watering. I've been here in ATL for airline training for nearly a month now, and I've eaten lunch at this place almost every weekday. Unfortunately they're closed on the weekends, or I'd be a 7-day-a-week kind of girl.... The meatloaf is exquisite. The turkey and fixin's are amazing. I'm not sure what they put in those green beans, but I lust after them all day long. It's grueling to make it through a weekend without this food.... In general I'm not a fan of pineapple stuff, but when they make the peach cobbler I drool. And the chocolate cake is so moist and perfectly sweet I shudder. Not only is the food breath-taking but the people are super friendly. After my 3rd visit in the same week they started to recognize me and treat me like a VIP. Now, when I walk in the door they smile knowingly and start scooping up a plate of green beans and meatloaf! I'm changing bases from ATL to DTW, and thank goodness for the amazing enchiladas in the airport up there or I'd be totally bereft at having to say goodbye to the Airport View Restaurant. It'll make next year's recurrent training all that much sweeter, though, and you can be sure that I'll eat here every day that week! I'll save my "frequent flyer" punch card -- buy 9 meals and the 10th is free -- until next year's training event. For now, thank you all for excellent and simple food and for your ever-smiling friendliness. I'll miss you and those awe-inspiring green beans....

Yelp
Airport View is a meat & three restaurant. You line up at a cafeteria style buffet table and the polite ladies behind the buffet ask you what you want. They serve it on a plate for you and you pay at the end of the buffet. I tried the fried chicken, fried okra, and mac n cheese. 1 meat + 2 veggies = $5.50. Can;t beat that. The food was, good but not great. Chicken = flavorful, not too dry, but seemed like it sat under the heat lamp a little too long Okra = good but not crispy Mac n cheese = creamy and cheesy Overall it's a good quick lunch option.
google avatar

Brianna J.

Yelp
Decent price for what you get. Cafeteria style dinning. I ordered the baked chicken mac and greenbeans....chicken was a bit dry/warm...skin was nicely seasoned probably would've tasted better if it weren't dried...mac n cheese was ok...I understand everyone doesn't like the same amount of seasoning but it could have used some salt and pepper (I added it on myself) but plenty of cheese which was good. Green beans were kind of salty. Didn't finish all of my portion. Paid less than $7 so I won't complain. They also gave me a sample of the apple cobbler which was good but I would've preferred peach (they cycle between apple peach and pineapple cobblers)...overall decent spot for the price and nice view of the airport. Outside side deck seating is also nice for warm days and larger parties.

Yelp
If you like your Pork Chops raw, this is the place for you. The excuse they used was all it is a thick pork chop. Guess they don't have a meat thermometer !

Yelp
I have to start by saying that my family and I were loyal customers of this business until today. We were treated terribly by one of the owners after he overcharged us for our meal. I brought it to his attention and he said "oh well" and made a hand gesture to waive me off. I will NEVER provide positive reviews for an establishment that cares so little about their frequent customers. Also, when he found out from our server that I was going to post a bad review, is when he finally decided to be nice and try to make things right. He tried to tell me that he mis-understood what I was saying when I was paying, BUT he argued with me about the price so how could he have not understood. Terrible customer service on the owner's part. The servers were nice as always though!
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
The service here was excellent. The staff was polite. The food is okay, nothing that stands out from various places that serve such foods. The best part of this place is the cafeteria style service. There was no wait for our food.

Brad C.

Yelp
A great place for a quick lunch at a good price! Cafeteria style serving, good portions and good food. I've particularly enjoyed the boneless fried chicken breast, along with your choice of sides. I have yet to be disappointed.
google avatar

Terry W.

Yelp
Amazing value! Great food at a very low price. Tastes home cooked. Cafeteria style. Shame it's only open 10 am - 3. Wished it was open later!
google avatar

Jessica W.

Yelp
My friend and I got to the airport early on Saturday (yes! they're now open until 2-ish PM on Saturdays), so we drove around to find a place to have lunch. Airport View cafe was such a delightful discovery! It has a very unassuming exterior (and interior), but don't be fooled! The food is comforting, the prices are excellent, and omgosh the service is the best. Stop in for a little home cooked treat :)
google avatar

Rachel A.

Yelp
Food is ok. Decent place to eat if you're on a budget. Always clean and friendly staff.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
If you want southern, home-cooking in a cafeteria style setting, this is the place. Great food, very friendly service and a menu that changes daily with lots of delicious options. I'd eat lunch here everyday if I could.
google avatar

Mark R.

Yelp
For the price this cafeteria style restaurant has great selections of meat and vegetables each day. The menu rotates so as not to be to boring. For under $9.00 you get two vegetables and one meat plus bread and a drink!

Fred I.

Yelp
It may sound like I own the place but I don't. Very nice decor and service is ALWAYS fast and friendly. They have a staff of friendly pretty girls and you expect some off days but there never seems to be any. You can find that anywhere but here's the kicker -- the price is right, come on down! I take out and without a drink and tax its about six bucks. I get an extra veggie and its a around $7.50 The food is pretty good but like all similar places the menu rotates with a few items so I do eat at other places to break up the routine. I used to go to Donnies on Old National then one day they were gone. $5.50 got you a meal and drink no fuss no muss. I don't want these guys to go the way of Donnie's so please patronize them and keep them in business. They have loyalty cards 9 meals then you get one FREE. They recently started a night menu with a different owner. I tried the wings and rice and didn't like it.

David F.

Yelp
First time here. Good place for meat and vegetables. Less than $8 for lunch that isn't fast food is good. Cafeteria style, good choices on food.

Ashlee L.

Yelp
This place is close by my office and is always a wonderful meal. The service is wonderful. I have eatn there several times and never been disappointed.

Steve N.

Yelp
Clean friendly atmosphere, a little noisy, partly due to the open floor plan, partly due to rude customer watching videos on their mobile devices. Food is good but chicken was a little bland, not much flavor. I look forward to eating here again.
google avatar

Bill B.

Yelp
This place have the best veggies in town only my mom can do better good prices good food my go to spot for lunch you have to try it .

Tiffany M.

Yelp
Foods good but I called to get the menu and the person who answered the phone handed it to another co worker and said, "Tell this person the menu, I aint got time for that." My coworkers were there so I was adding an order. And now thanks to that I do not have time to order from there. Customer service people.....
google avatar

Amber H.

Yelp
Delicious, no frills southern food. The collards were outstanding! The baked chicken and Mac and cheese were very flavorful. The lemon cake was also amazing. If you're looking for an affordable ($7) lunch, I would highly recommend this place. The staff was very warm and welcoming!
google avatar

Marcus G.

Yelp
great food! great service! great atmosphere! great price!!! this is one of the number one spot's for lunch in atlanta!!!!

B K.

Yelp
Best lunch in ATL. Food is great and the price is right. Good variety too. The only negative is parking lot is too small and street parking can be difficult.

Talena S.

Yelp
Great price, great service, and yummy Southern style food was to be found. We were able to watch planes taxi, take off, and land....really fun for me and my family.

Keith D.

Yelp
Great food for a great price! I go here regularly and I'm never disappointed. It's your classic blue plate special (meat and 2). Great people with great service. Wednesday is fried cauliflower, yum, and Thursday is turkey and dressing, two days I try not to miss!

David H.

Yelp
Hadn't been to this restaurant in a few months. The ownership changed. Now, it's terrible! Lack of staff, half of the vegetables were empty and the food quality has decreased. I will not be returing and would advise potential customers to try somewhere else.

Lyn L.

Yelp
While my expectations for this place were never high in the first place, today I was extremely let down. I have come here often over the past couple years and the food is always just middling, decent for the price you pay. But today I was served the sorriest excuse for lunch. I got fried green tomatoes, which you expect to be greasy, they're fried, but these tasted ONLY of grease, no green tomato flavor whatsoever, gross. Then there was the collard greens, I know they are from a can, but the texture was off even for that, more like soft spinach than collards, overcooked or sitting too long. The worst, however, was the baked chicken. It was the driest chicken leg I have ever tried to eat, like Clark Griswold Christmas turkey dry, seriously inedible. How they think that they could serve that nastiness and keep customers I can't imagine. I could only take a few bites and had to leave a full plate to go find something else for lunch. What a waste of money.
