"Lahm ajeen, literally meaning “meat with dough” in Arabic, is a popular flatbread in Eastern Mediterranean countries including Turkey, Syria, and Lebanon. Ajeen in Allston serves up plenty of varieties of flatbread, including a classic (the lahm ajeen) as well as vegetarian options (the za’atar special and the muhammara), at this nondescript spot along Commonwealth Avenue. Don’t miss out on the chicken shawarma with garlic sauce and the Ayran yogurt drink." - Lala Thaddeus, Terrence Doyle

It’s a simple spot. More of a grab and go. But there is seating if you want to eat in, which is what we did. Very well-mannered gents up front. Quick service. Now, about the food. O. M. G. *TLTR* Went in there with relatively high expectations, because of the thoughtful reviews. I was not disappointed. 5-stars on the food. Tried the beef and lamb gyro, the chicken shawarma platter, and the zaatar and cheese flatbread. For desserts, the baklava and the little round dough balls in syrup (forgot their name 😅.) Soooo goood! The best baklava I’ve ever had. Less flaky, more sort of pastry-ish. Not sure how to describe it. Sweet, but not overwhelming. The chicken shawarma platter was a delight. Wow. The rice tasted buttery. Made to perfection. Not too dry. Not pasty. The chicken, perfectly seasoned and roasted. The whipped garlic — wow. 🤯 Can probably eat it on its own. 😅 It’s that good. Wonderfully whipped, smooth, and creamy. So was the hummus. The bread — they make it themselves, which was so nice to see. I don’t know what to compare it to / what it’s supposed to be like. So, not sure how to review it. It’s sort of dry, but soft. Kind of like a cross between a wrap and a pita, but with no pocket. My friend had the gyro wrap. He said it was really good, but a little bit on the dry side. “A solid 8.” What would make it better? More of the spread (and maybe some of the whipped garlic on the side) so that it’d be less dry. Lastly, the dough balls and the bread were the least impressive to me, not to say they were bad, just not memorable, especially in comparison to the other items. Bottom line tho: highly recommend. It’s a treat.

The Zaatar flatbread was great if you like the taste of Zaatar. The Chicken Shawarma is the second best in Massachusetts. It's reflects the flavor of a true Lebanese Chicken Sharma upto a great extent (except, the flavor was really light). But the chicken seemed a little dry and the size of the shawarma is a little small for the price.

I actually came from New Jersey and bumped into this lovely restaurant! And I am so glad I did! They’re actually the only ones in the area that serve “manakish” (flatbread). I have to say they’re manakish taste on-point traditional just like the ones made back home. Their batches are fresh while they knead and stretch the dough in front of you. They also use a brick oven, which I think is what gives it that rich Levantine taste, just the way it “should be”. Mario was very welcoming and went that extra mile with his genuine friendliness and efficient service. We tasted their cheese, zaatar, and meat manakish and they all were beyond delicious and flavorful! Definitely try this place out!

This restaurant is incredibly slow! They set expectations for quick service, claiming a 5-minute wait, but it actually takes 30 minutes. There's a complete lack of communication, leaving customers in the dark while the staff leisurely prepare the food and chat among themselves. Expect to wait at least 20 minutes and shell out over $10 for a minuscule wrap with extremely sparse ingredients. This place is not only slow, but also overpriced for what you get.

Awesone little gem with fanstastic and authentic Lebanese/Mediterranean food. Stays open late until 1AM. The cheese mankouche is on point! The keshek and zaatar mankouche are also really good. The muhammara and lahem ajeen mankouche, as well as their sandwiches are good but nothing special. They have the superjus cone juice typically drank in Lebanon, as well as eerane laban.
